Hey all,
On a couple occasions now, my Diamond (Telus CDMA) has refused to wake up from standby. After a soft reboot (by pressing the little button under the back cover) I can see that the battery has drained very quickly. The phone is also noticeably warmer than usual. Seems like it's getting stuck in some sort of processing loop and burning battery while it's at it.
Has anyone else experienced this problem, and does anyone know what's going on?
Thanks,
-Michael
the same thing has happened to me twice! phone was fully charged last night, woke up this morning and battery had drained completely and turned itself off.
any ideas?
Did you have bluetooth on and visible?
Not at the time.
I've since purchased some bluetooth headphones and now have BT enabled, but I've not had this problem in a while.
i had that happen to me once too, never again tho.
I have a setting, which I do not know the purpose of, but I unchecked it.
Start -> Settings -> Personal -> Today -> Items -> Time-Out of Today
(I have a dutch TD, so the translation may be not exactly correct).
Could it be that the TD is automatically reset by this setting?
Maybe it is also because ActiveSync became active and is draining the battery?
This is a tip from someone else:
DISABLE ACTIVESYNC NOTIFICATION
===============================
When I start up the Touch, ActiveSync is running. I stop it, but sooner or later it will show up in the Tasks running again.
I did the ActiveSync Fake server Trick(Fake IP, Set schedules to Manual, etc..), but that didn't help.
Here is the Fix:
In the windows/activesync directory there is a file called “CtrlLog” file, in the file I noticed that at certain times it would say “KeepAwake” so I knew there had to be something trying to keep ActiveSync running.
I download an app called “Task Manager by FdcSoft”, cool little app for Free, it showed me all the processes running in the background. The one that caught my eye is a process called “repllog.exe”, because it had an ActiveSync icon next to it.
So just messing around with “Task Manager” I went to “Notifications” and noticed there were three “repllog.exe” in the notifications list towards the bottom. After disabling and enabling “repllog.exe” one by one, I believe the one that is causing ActiveSync to keep restarting itself is the “repllog.exe” that has an Argument named AppRunAfterTimeChange(must scroll to the right to see it). So I disabled that particular “repllog.exe” and did a Soft Reset.
I no longer see ActiveSync in the Task Manager list unless I connect to the PC using a USB cable.

I used also asynckiller, but that did not work for me.
Still Async came sometimes active and asynckiller did not stop this one.
No I do not use asynckiller anymore, but disabled the one mentioned in my previous post and the problems have not appeared again.

Well i just picked up my new Tilt a few days ago and have not be able to try out any ROMs yet cuz activesync is crazy. I had 4.2 running just fine for the longest time with no problems. I now have the tilt and needed to upgrade to AS 4.5, so i did with the cd from the tilt and everything went fine. I restarted after install, clicked AS to open and nothing happened. I connect the tilt and the icon in task bar turns green and spins and says connected, but no AS window. I can explore the phone, go to connection settings from right clicking the icon, but i cannot get the window to open. I have google'd from here to goggleland and back and cannot get it working. I actually did get the window to open ONCE, after i completely uninstalled Kaspersky 7.0. But then after i closed it it never opened again. The one thing i noticed is that if i open the task manager on my pc wcescomm.exe and rapimgr.exe are running, but not WCESMgr.exe. When i double click the AS icon i see in task mgr that WCESMgr comes up but then disappears. Does anyone have any ideas as to what i can do??
Try uninstalling activesync completely, restarting, then trying to install again.
Yes definitely uninstall AS completely, check the registry, restart and then install AS4.5. I've found that was always the best method when "upgrading" to AS4.5.
I have tried that a few times. Not totally sure how to check the registry for anything left behind. What should i look for? thanks for the help
Uninstall Active Sync, reboot, disable any Antivirus you have running, install Active Sync (reboot if necessary) and re-enable Antivirus if necessary. This should work. I've had strange issues with Active Sync in the past and this seems to work.
Please forgive me if this is being discussed elsewhere, but I skimmed through the Kaiser forum, and I didn't see anyone else mentioning this problem. My phone automatically reset the clock for DST yesterday, and looking through the calendar today all the appointments are an hour off. For example, my work schedule. On the day summary page it says I work 07:30 - 21:00 today, however when you click edit appointment it says 06:30 - 20:00. On Wednesday I have jury duty. On the day page it says that jury duty starts at 10:30, however it really starts at 9:30, and if I show up an hour late I am in contempt of court!
Is there a setting I am not aware of? When I click edit appointment it shows the correct time, but on the day page its an hour late. The thing that really bothers me is that since I have an erratic schedule at work I have it set to remind me an hour before, just in case I forget to set my alarm clock the night before. Today I got my 1 hour reminder while actually driving to work!
I am using the new Tilt ROM, details are in my signature.
Thanks, Jay
Update: I've been on the phone with AT&T tech support for 30 minutes now, and it still doesn't work right ...

If you are saying the Today Screen Calendar is off by an hour, but the calendar inside the pda is ok; A soft reset should fix your issue.
We had a couple of Hermes and kaiser's with this issue yesterday.
Try the attached cab
Ok, I 've been transferred to HTC support from ATT, which is nice, I didn't have to call them myself, and the ATT rep explained my problem to them. There is a hotfix of this issue, I haven't tried it yet, but I figured I'd share. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/949168

I've soft reset and took the battery out. I'm going to try the DST cab.

WOW! Mine is too!
Didn't even notice.
All my calendar events were changed from 8am start to 9am start.
What the heck?!
Yeah, it's stupid daylight savings time. You have to download a patch from microsoft to fix it, can do it straight to the phone by going to www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile and hit the Update option. I don't really understand why it couldn't just be automatically sent thru the Windows Update option under Settings...talk about a frustrating issue though!
now the question is will it work with 6.1
I saw this coming days ahead because of my scheduling :S...
Anyways, what fixed for me was just fixing the time on my Kaiser, all but one (?) appointments switched back to the original time automatically. No extra cabs or tweaks.
Good luck with that.
I've tried running that patch, and after installing the cab, it resets the Tilt, and then when it comes back everything is still the same. I've tried switching to a different timezone, and then back (per the advice in the another thread) to no avail.
Jimmyv - what do you mean you "fixed" the time?
Jay, please keep us updated as to what you're finding out.

Keep in mind this is not, nor should it be considered, a permanent fix. I don't know what long-term problems this could cause, but I'll tell you how I got it to work for me.
1. (Not sure if this is needed, because it didn't seem to change anything) Install the 2008 DST update from Microsoft.
2. Make sure all your appointments are still set to their original times (As in, you didn't change the original hour so that it'd remind you with it's skewed view of reality )
2a. (You may not have to do this) Under the Phone options dialog (Settings -> Personal -> Phone), go to the 'Time Zones' tab, and uncheck 'Automatic change time zone and clock'.
3. Go to the clock settings dialog (Settings -> System -> Clock & Alarms) Set the time zone to the one an hour behind you (-6 to -7 is what I did)
4. Set the time, manually, an hour ahead. (In the system clock dialog, there are two options for time: Time zone, and time. Set the time zone an hour behind, then set the actual time an hour ahead.)
5. Enjoy. Your appointments should now be okay.
I do hope someone figures out what's really causing this, though, because I'm not keen on changing the time zone every time DST comes into effect.
--------
AT&T Tilt, running Custel 2.1 AT&T Chopped and Screwed with Custel Touch Fix.
Mine works fine.
Your time is pulled off the network. I don't see how this could cause a problem.
YEa... had this problem myself. Figured it was a good time to hard reset and reinstall since I had a crapload of stuff I didn't use anymore.

A hard reset wouldn't be bad, but I really don't want to re-enter all of my appointments. Otherwise I could fix it by just deleting all the appointments and re-entering them.

I think the problem is that 2 things are trying to do the same thing. The network is trying to adjust for DST and windows is trying to do it too. I wish there was a way to just turn off DST and let the phone manage the time.

I just had a brainstorm! I'm in the eastern time zone. (GMT -5) Indiana does not participate in DST. I switched my time zone to GMT-5 Indiana, and all my appointments are correct now. I'm leaving autoupdate time on the phone, so this should take care of itself, and the phone will manage the time changes.
-Jay
I just realized you do have to turn autoupdate time off to use my earlier method. Futhermore, due to the same problem, I'm not sure you're new method will work forever. The reason I had to turn autoupdate time off was because the network told my phone it was -not- in the -7 time zone. I think, after a little bit of time, it will tell you're phone it's not in Indiana and you'll be stuck with the same problem all over again. x.x I'm going to look at the registry for the clock/calendar integration and see if I can't find some hidden setting that'll stop the clock from messing with the appointments. I'm pretty new to this though, so don't bet on my finding something that'll work. Any help from someone smarter would be very much appreciated. ;D
Edit: Sadly, the only thing I could find that looks anywhere close to something in relation to this is the value TimeZoneInformation in HKLM\Time. I can't figure out how I'm supposed to edit that so that changing the time zone doesn't touch the appointments, though. I'm not even convinced it's possible. Anyone else know any registry values that might relate to this problem? I'm going to try and decompile the MS patch next to see if I can find any hints with what they did.. Even if it didn't work.
does anyone else have this problem?
acticesync keeps appearing in my task manager/running programs even when i havent attached to computer???
any advice?
Kill it! It's been doing that on all WM devices I know.
yes!!! ))
how can i kill the bugger?
Well, you can't kill it forever... After all you'll want to sync from time to time.
However, once you finished sync'ing, just kill the task from the task list (the little icon in the right upper corner of the screen).
yes i do this
but then it just appears randomly, even afer i kill it and even on days when i havent even used the computer??
I think you're right, ActiveSync is somehow alive
I, for one, chose simply to ignore it as a quirk of the operating system.
This has been a problem for years over several wm versions. If you don't use exchange server and want to get rid of it, you have to use something called the 'fake server trick'.
http://www.mobilitysite.com/boards/...-battery-discharge.html?highlight=fake+server
Hopefully it will still work on 6.1, you can try it.
Hi, this is big issue, couse nobody solved it yet. How is it posible, that Diamond is verys low after connection with PC using ActiveSync? Just try it, try scrolling in programs folder, then plug Diamond to PC using active sync, disconnect it, and try it again. It will be much slower. Or try VS bench after Active Sync session, you will get much worse results. Graphic went from 2300 to 1300 points after Active Sync connection. Diamond goes to normal speed after soft reset only. Please, share you ideas and experiences with this issue.

Indeed its true, but it does not happen when you use the device as a Disk Drive.
Yes, I know, but this should not happen. Any ideas why? It is strange. Do you think it is becouse some software problem? None of my previous phones did this. If it is software, new ROM can solve it, but if this is hardware... Did some of your phones do this?
this happens with other HTC devices (and maybe other WM) as well. I have a TC, and I notice it too. Its only when it's actually doing the sync. Once the sync is completed, mine goes back to normal. And when I disconnect, all's good as well. Are you saying its slow all the time once you activesync, even if you then disconnect?
Yes, exactly. I disconncet Diamond from PC, even stop ActiveSync in task manager on Diamond, and whole system is much slower. As I wrote, vs bench takes 1000 away after active sync. But, and that must be mistake, vs bench add 700 point to saund test, but as I said, this must be error of VS Bench. Whole system is slow.
Hmmm, well that's strange, and I don't know what might be causing that (esp sinc eI don't have a Diamond myself). i did have a similar issue with my TyTN a while back. I think it amounted to some software I installed and a very "dirty" notification queue. I ended up hard resetting and all was back to normal. I hope it isn't something like that for you.

Ahhhh, so this may be the issue I've been having ...
I'm going to have to test this further to confirm but after a soft reset, my "bubbleshooter" game (yes, I know - childish for a 45 year old company director but it passes the time at airports etc.) works great. However, at some point after running several things, the game becomes very slow. Still playable but at half speed. I thought it was my Intellisync client (for Lotus Notes) or some of the background apps like quickGPS etc. but this may be it. I also confirm that even if I stop all apps (cleanly or forcibly), the problem remains.
I'll post back and confirm if I can duplicate or not. I will also check TaskMgr (the good one included on Dutty's ROM) to see what's running after a soft reset and what's running after ActivSync is started / stopped. Maybe it's leaving something behind ...
Regards,
Gary.
There is to much communication going on thats why its slow!
Probably 3 megs a second in commsss. Thats why its slow!
You have to understand the reasons of WHY and then you will make the peace with the kick asssss Jewel.

Sergio,
Sorry to bring bad news but you've missed the point completely .... We are talking about AFTER you've run Activesync, unplugged the device and shut down Activesync. When Activesync is running, for me it's to replicate mail, charge, copy files etc. - not to play games or watch films. When it's connected, I'm aware that there may be many activities ongoing so don't expect high frame-rate etc. etc. However, when I disconnect from the USB line and shut down Activesync, I expect full performance (which is not the case).
Hope that clarifies the issue for you.
Regards,
Gary.

Not only being slow even after being disconnected: Activesync starts up by itself and even if I shut it down, it reopens...

What about this: Check if active sync is still running after you activate it.
Either tap on right upper part to close or use Task manager to close activesync. Cause it still runs after you disconect the Jewel from computer.

Well, yes, for begining it is good that finally somebody cares about this problem. For now, only one thing that can reverse phone slowdown after activesync is soft reset. I tested it on other phones (Asus P535, Mio a701) no one has this problem. But they all were running WM 5 maybe WM 6.1 coue this problem. I am begginer, i can only guess, you are the experts, so please excuse my mistakes if there are some. If you want to know this slowdown in numbers, go to ROM development -> some benchamrking -> and open tab of tested ROMs. Original ROM 1.93 has very bad graphics points, but Very goo sound points. This is the ActiveSync problem. I tested it twice, after soft reset, benchmark results are similiar to other ROMs withount any "strange" numbers.
So, I wrote message about this problem to HTC, maybe, just maybe some fix will come.
I've been told about eLiAs ASyncKiller. It seems to kill ActiveSync when you disconnect.
This may solve your problem
It happens to me to, but i notice that when I close Activesync down the memory usage figures in the top right corner when you select the drop down arrow, dont change. In fact, as we all know, the memory usage creeps up, and when mine gets to about 70% the phone does get quite slow and a soft reset always fixes it. Then memory usage goes back to 56% starting from scratch.
I thought the memory leaking problems were fixed in the latest 1.93 ROM? Is this not the case?
Thats what I put it down to.

I had this problem on my Orange UK Diamond with factory ROM. After 2 hard resets it stopped happening but I had other problems with the phone and had it replaced. Now whenever I soft reset the newly exchanged phone ActiveSync starts up and I have to close from Task Manager. I have tried a couple of hard resets to no avail. I also quite often get problems with manila.exe that may be linked. I'm getting really frustrated with this device! Never had so many problems with a new phone/pda.

Connecting to Activesync but not able to Sync

Hi,
I am having a strange problem with Active Sync.
When I plug in my mobile with USB and use active sync. it does not synchornise.
I have tried all the options liek chaning schedule, changing the settings and diabling advanced network functionality still I am not able to make the diamond synchronise.
Finally, I downloaded the active sync. 4.5 even then my problem remains the same.
It always shows the message "connected" ( green icon )and fails to synchronise.
thanks for any help..
hello can someone please help i have a big problem that VERY agravating. everytime i connect my tilt a msg pops up that says "microsoft office outlook has stopped working" i have checked the sync status and it wont sync, it also doesnt give anyreason why? ive updated ms office on my phone and it still does. how can i stop this, its very aggravating b/c it just keeps popping up and WILL NOT STOP! thanks for the help.
I think your active sync might have been disabled by the power optimizer software on your phone. Go to advanced setting and check under miscellaneous: Enables or disables activesync. Choose enabe, click done and apply soft reset.
I hope this helps
On a seperate note, one of my qwerty keypad buttons fell out on my phone, and i tried super glueing it back(stupid, i know), but some of the glue went into the phone, spread into a few keys, and now,
when i plug my phone into my PC, it doesnt sync, it only charges.
I fiddled with the phone a bit and discovered it doesnt know it is plugged into a PC, it thinks its plugged into a wall. But once in a while, it syncs, sometimes for a day, sometimes for an hour, sometimes for a few seconds.
anyone else had this problem, and know any fixes/solutions?
In case a mod sees this, can i open a thread to ask this question?
thx for you help
