Hi guys. Not a major problem but would like to know why this happens. Every time I connect and disconnect my Kaiser to/from my laptop (HP nx7400, Vista Business SP1) thru ActiveSync (either by bluetooth or data cable), the Windows folder opens in an Explorer window on the laptop! There must be some registry setting causing this behaviour, I've looked through HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows CE Services and subfolders but couldn't see anything obvious. Can anyone suggest where else to look?
If it is a registry setting somewhere, it could be quite useful if it can be edited to launch a user-defined program when the Kaiser connects. Just a thought...
Thanks in advance
Edit - the Windows\System32 folder opens sometimes on connection. So sometimes it's the Windows folder, other times the Windows\System32 folder
Why are you using active sync on Vista? You should be using WMDC instead.

Anyone know how to fix?

The following registry key can be used to launch applications on ActiveSync connect, e.g.: CMD.EXE
\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows CE Services\AutoStartOnConnect\OnConnect = "c:\windows\system32\cmd.exe"
If the ...\AutoStartOnConnect\OnConnect key exists with no value, i.e. "" (empty string) Windows Explorer is launched by default.
Solution: Delete the key or assign any application (but Windows Explorer ;-) )
I tried the solution above (deleting those keys) and it fixed it for me.

Thanks man, fixed my problem
Hey guys,
I don't have a Kaiser, or really know what that is, but I do have a Touch Pro 2 on the Telus network. I'm getting the System32 popup when I connect my phone to my Windows 7 based laptop. I checked the registry, and the OnConnect key does not appear. Is there any other entry that I should be on the lookout for?
Thanks,
Len
same problem here. System32 is opening every time HTC&PC gets connected/disconnected.
the mentioned registry key is on PC (not PDA). In my case AutoStartOnConnect a AutoStartOnDisconnect --> deleted

Fixed my TP2 as well.
This works also on Windows 7 x64 with HTC HD2
Thank you!!!
Great!!!!!!!!!
It works on Win7 and Touch HD
Thanks
I use MyMobiler and with an option to auto connect it. Upon looking at the registry entry, the showed mymobiler as the start up option. In disabling auto connect on mymobiler, the registries changed and then enabled it and still the same behavior.
I deleted the keys and the selected auto connect on mymobiler and now it starts mymobiler instead of opening windows folder.
Oh I use the HTC TP2 and windows xp

I am trying to access files in my shared folders on my desktop running XP.
My wireless router sees my Tilt and my Tilt see my computer.
When I use Resco file explorer, go to Network and map the desktop drive I see four folders:
My Pictures
Shared Music
Shared Video
SharedDocs
When I try to access these folders by tapping on them nothing happens. There are files in them and they are set to share.
What am I doing wrong?
Thanks
For sharing, you have to have XP or Vista pro. The home ones don't support remote sharing. Found that the hard way :\.

Kareem, that is incorrect. XP home does support sharing (don't know what you mean by "remote" sharing, because sharing will always be remote, right? )
I have XP home and share all the time with my wizard. Don't know what to suggest about this right now, but if you are having problem with this method, then there is another brilliant way for a better solutiong. Search for "mocha ftp server" on google. This is a freeware that sits on ur pocket pc and runs an ftp server. You can access this server from ur desktop for writing files to ur handheld "AND" to read files from it as well (i.e. it allows 2-way sharing) which otherwise impossible over network without installing specialised software over ur desktop (like microsoft portrait)
why not use resco file explorer.. much easier...

he uses resco, read the first post
i think it's a problem with the rights-management on your shared folders
check if they are readable for everyone, cause i don't know if resco file explorer is able to authentificate with your prefered credentials
bye andré
I am able to open network shares from my Kaiser using Total Commander. I can access shares on XP Home Desktop and Vista Home Premium Laptop. Vista will not allow me to be logged in as the same user on laptop and Kaiser at the same time but XP does seem to allow this. The user/password prompt can take a while to appear initially.
Have you definitely enabled sharing on the PC?
Can you access these shares from another PC?
Another option which might suit your needs is Orb. This is brilliant for me I can access files and webcam and TV whilst out and about on my Kaiser and from any PC.
[I have searched but not found help on this specific problem]
Hi, I have recently deleted the office partnership to my Tytn II and then updated with the official 6.1 WM ROM.
Now, when I place the Tytn in the USB cradle to connect my XP computer starts a file explorer window and then a small window with a connection request to www.msnusers.com. When this small window is cancelled then a second copy appears. After that is cancelled no further window comes. Then, the activesync starts OK and performs a normal sync.
So, is there a way to stop the file explorer window appearing and then the two msnusers connect windows ??
I have already removed AS 4.5 and re-installed.
Many thanks for tips.
It seems like you have MSN enabled auto connect or something. Have your tried going through MSN Live and see if you can disable it there?
Thanks Prolab
I don't find in Windows Live any autoconnect. I think you're right that something is trying to connect.
I checked my rss readers (egress & newsgator go) and these are not on auto connect.
I guess I will just have to keep hunting this bug.
Regards, D
Hi
Is seems this is a common problem. One solution that seems to work is to delete "My Web Sites on MSN" on the network neighbourhood. There is a lot of hits on google for this.
This stops the msnusers window.
Now I just need to find a way to stop the file explorer window.

Is there any way to view/edit the contents of the Windows directory on my AT&T Tilt from a PC? I want to customize the shortcuts/folders/startup programs and the only way to even see the Windows directory is on the phone itself, which is extremely tedious. The Windows directory does not show up in Windows Explorer, ActiveSync or other 3rd party software I have tried that contain file browsers. Any help would be most appreciated. Thanks!
I must be misunderstanding what your asking because...
If you are using Activesync, you most certainly can browes files on your phone as you would the files on your desktop. Two ways to get there. Either by:
My Computer \ Mobile Device
Or through the Activesync program and clicking on the Explore icon.
You also may want to make sure you have your view settings to where hidden files can be seen.
I can see all folders/files except for the Windows Directory from my PC. Nothing is set to hidden.

I'm guessing that you're using Vista....you need to go to your folder options in Vista (Organize->Folder and Search Options->View) and uncheck "Hide protected operating system files."
Tried on another machine (both running XP) and it's fine. Settings are the same on both. Could it be something with permissions? Thank for your replies.
With active synch up, click explore
Now click My Window Mobile-Based Device
Windows folder should be there along with your storage card
If it isn't, your device is probably possessed by the devil and you should consider an exorcism
Yep - works that way on one machine but not the other.
Oh, and your mother sucks c**ks in Hell, Karras, you faithless slime...
Found the problem. Had contracted a root kit virus some time ago on my other machine. Was able to clean everyhing, but one of the wonderful features of this virus was to delete the
"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced\Folder\Hidden" key.
Sneaky bastards...
I restored it from the good machine and everything is all good now.
Thanks again for everyone's time.
I guess Smuook was right, possessed by the devil.
Newbe here trying to get my Tilt going. I HAVE searched and read the threads on ActiveSync for hours but can find no reference to this problem. I just installed ActiveSync 4.5 on my Windows XP Pro system. ActiveSync will connect and synchronize files ok. Clicking the Explore button in the ActiveSync window does nothing. After running ActiveSync, I can not open any file short cuts or open my C-drive from My computer. Basically, Windows Explorer will not run. I went to the Windows dir and tried to start Explorer.exe manually, no go. If I reboot, everything with Windows Explorer works ok until I start ActiveSync again. If I have Windows Explorer open when I start ActiveSync, I can browse the files on the Tilt fine, but once that Windows Explorer window is closed, Windows Explorer will not start again until I reboot. I have reinstalled ActiveSync twice and unchecked "Enable advanced network functions".
Im having the same problem!!!
I find that my going into task manager -> Processes and killing "explorer.exe" then selecting File -> Run and typing explorer.exe and clicking ok, that it restarts explorer.exe and enables me to carry on doing what i was doing, but it is a huge pain in the butt!!!
hope this will not be the improper place, anyway i've got a weird problem and i cannot find a solution.
the situation is this: i am a professional composer and i've been using a creamware pulsar sound card as my main tool for quite a few years.
i am also a htc kaiser user and have been using activesync to, well you know what you use it for.
anyway i've just installed a fresh os (windows xp sp3) because the old one was getting slower and slower, but now i can't use activesync. it turns out, a dll called rapi.dll (in the windows/system32 folder) is its main dll.
unfortunately, the drivers for the pulsar card also use a rapi.dll, situated in pulsar's own folder. and every time i try to start up cubase or soundforge or whatever audio program, it will open the wrong rapi.dll, being the activesync one in the windows/system32 folder.
so i had to uninstall activesync in order to keep on working.
how will i convince these programs they are looking in the wrong place? any suggestions?
thanks a lot, Joop
