Hi all
I have some troubles with rather GPS soft like RunGPS Trainer, that cannot control diamond power mode
when i switch off screen, gps and wifi modules switched off too, so I cannot record tracks in RunGPS.
RunGPS can lock screen, but hardkeys still work and screen work too so charge is over too short
anyone use RunGPS? How I can recording tracks with screen blank off and keys locked?
In Run.GPS I just press lock screen (the little lock at the bottom) and it keeps power on but backlight minimal. Or I just use a Bluetooth GPS which is more accurate anyway.
I know about lock button and write about it
but as i wrote, hardkeys stil work! I cannot lock device normally
Your advice about external GPS is unusable too
-you must have it every time you want to use RunGPS (walking in the park for example)
-you must buy it
may be anyone knew program that can lock device completely but disable turn off? Something Like S2U2 but without poweroff?
Or may be we can disable automatic gps off? Wifi disables too by default, but I can tweak it
Go into Settings - Configuration - general settings - When application is locked - lock keys also, use center key for start/stop
Hey, guys
maybe you try to read all I wrote? in diamond this setting is not working! It is not lock even power button
and screen stil work!!! this is not solution! I wrote about it in my first post
Hi,
Works fine on my MDA Compact. Did you check the site for the manual configuration of the GPS. I had to set this to get it to read altitude.
Regards
I use this program about 3 years and I know all it settings
Works fine on MDA Compact? Great, but this is Diamond topic!
AFAIK there is no GPS on MDA Compact (this is Qtek s100, correct?), so there is no problem with built in GPS, you can just turn off device!
And I repeat - lock device button didn't turn off screen
this is stupid solution. Battery lifetime in diamond is small and with powered on screen it is minimal
A simple solution would be just to keep it differently, like in a running armband or on your belt. With the little lock button battery consumption is minimal.

Here is my Diamond armband
I tend to start off, turning on my music, then start up Run.GPS, hit the start button, then press the little screen lock on the Run.GPS screen, I have Run.GPS speak to me every 30 seconds to tell me, Pace, Distance and speed.
If the device screen turns off, you just hit the top stand by button once to turn on screen again.
Generally I just run, listen to music, let Run.GPS tell me the rest...
The Belkin Ipod Classic armband is perfect
If the device screen turns off, you just hit the top stand by button once to turn on screen again.

I keep it differently
but I can accidentally press any key when I get it from it case. And screen work too!!!
I repeat: this is not solution
I don't want: check screen every time I use GPS software / buy mda compact / use dim backlight instead / use music player to turn off screen
enough those answers!
there is two ways to solve this problem as I say
-find tweak to keep GPS on while device is in stand by
-small utility that can lock device and turn off screen, but keep device on (and GPS too)
do you can tell something about those two ways?

I have the brightness set to zero, but I still find the screen too bright especially at night when the lights are off. Even at the lowest setting, the browser will light up the entire room and its very hard on the eyes. Is there a way to lower the brightness even further? Is there a hack available that will do this?

But then you can't see anything, that's almost as mental a suggestion as layering up 3 or 4 mirror screen protectors.
Instead of suggesting **** you could try to answer his question in a real way.
I think there is a way via setprop..
Try this in terminal (after su)
setprop settings.display.brightness 0
Sunsglasses sounds like a good idea.

Thanks for chiming in with an actual suggestion. I tried changing the setprop setting to 0, but it didn't decrease my brightness any further than what I can achieve in the Settings menu. It's too bad, I wonder if an app could be made to force the phone's brightness to decrease even further.
You know what... I like this suggestion. I am one of the few people that sometimes uses the phone as an alarm clock and have it sitting next to my bed. I work nights but get off work at 5 in the morning. When I get home I sleep. It's nice to wake up and look at my phone without having to reach over and hit a tiny ass button just to check the time but keeping it on means that I have a night light shining while I'm trying to sleep. So I like this idea and would like to see it dimmed by at least another 50%.

I agree. I often grab my phone in the middle of the night to view new emails or google search random thoughts. My eyes get scorched though even when the brightness is turned all the way down.

Do you have a link to one?
Me too.
I do alot of surfing in the middle of the night with the wife and baby in the bed and its pretty dam bright even when set to 0.
I run the brightness widget (not sure wich one) and I also use Timerific to auto dim to 0 after like 11m.
Sometimes I will see that the brightness is set to -8. Even though it doesnt seem any dimmer than normal, its jsut an observation.
I think that If we want to go dimmer its gonna take some sort of kernel hack.
I tried setting it with a - value and it didnt work, although none of the other set prop stuff worked either I think the apps i have set are blocking it somehow.
Ill mess around with a fresh rom and see if it will go into negative.
I also noticed that sometimes when its auto setting thebrightness levels it will go below what looks like 0 brightness for about a half second before it sets to 0 so I know its physically possible for the screen to go at least a little dimmer.
i know there was a way of getting it to -13 % by playing around with the settings on the brightness widget and useful switers..
I've gone through a few BT keyboards with Android tablets over the last couple of years, and I think I've found the perfect one for the N7:
Perixx PERIBOARD-805, $30 at Amazon
It folds to about 6x3.5" and about 1/2" thick, just a little smaller than the N7's active screen area and about as thick as my landscape stand case when folded. When unfolded, it's kind of small compared to a fullsize or even a standard laptop keyboard, but is still easy to touch type on. The split down the middle is a little awkward at first since some of the keys down the middle have been stretched to fill the gap, but not a problem after a few minutes. It's a full laptop style layout similar to the Apple tenkeyless keyboards, with F1-F10, two sets of CTRL and ALT, ~, ESC, and \ in the right places. The arrow buttons are wedged between "/" and right Shift which looks funny but hasn't been a problem. The FN button also activates a bunch of Android and iOS specific keys, like media/volume controls, lock, wake, home, and search.
Everything seems to work as expected in a terminal (AirTerm and ConnectBot) except I can't get the PGUP/PGDN to work in the terminal (FN-arrow up and down), though they work fine in Google Drive. Not the end of the world, and probably something that editing the keymap can fix.
Keys have decent travel (1.35mm I measured) with a sharp tact for something so cheap, and use a scissor mechanism so they don't wobble much at all. The caps aren't curved, which is the trend for chiclet keyboards. It flexes a tiny bit if you pound on it, but much less than many laptops I've used.
It has two buttons on the inside right: one to power on/off, and one for pairing. You hold the power button for 3 seconds to power it on, then the battery and BT LEDs blink a few times to let you know it's alive. Turning it off is done by holding it for a second or two, but there's no indication that it turned off other than the dropped connection on the N7. I'm not sure if there's an auto power off or how long the battery should last as the manual kind of sucks and I've only had it for a day. It does not turn off when you close it, but if it's like most BT keyboards I've used it sips power until you are actively using it so it might not matter.
It's powered by an internal Li-Ion pack, and charges with micro USB. Not sure on battery life yet, but it's nice to know I don't need to carry an extra charger or AAAs. It ships with a short USB-A to micro USB cable that most of us probably will never open, but a nice touch anyway. It can be charged with the case open or closed, and the charging point is right near the ESC key so that it faces away if you want to charge it while using it.
Unfolded, the case rests on 8 feet: the four surrounding the hinge are bumps in the plastic, and the ones at the corners are rubber to prevent slipping on a desk. When folded, the case has a glossy hex pattern on top of black matte plastic, which is a nice change from plain black gadgets while not being too flashy. It feels sturdy enough to take some abuse at the bottom of a backpack.
Anyway, if none of the other keyboard options are doing it for you, and you want something very portable, get one of these.

It's unnoticeable. In the few BT keyboards I've used this has never been a problem. I wouldn't use it for serious gaming, but if you're of that bent you're not using anything wireless anyway.
Sometimes it takes a few seconds for the keyboard to wake up and connect if it's been idle for a while (usually minutes to hours).
Hi All
Apologies if this is covered elsewhere, I did attempt to use the search function but i couldn't find anything.
I would greatly appreciate some assistance with this conundrum, I awoke to find my screen cracked (fitful sleep maybe?) and my touchscreen unresponsive.
My insurers do not repair handsets they simply swap them out with refurbs, my replacement is arriving tomorrow.
Now here is my problem, I need access to the filesystem to backup my photos, I don't care about the rest of my data, I have photos of my nephews 1st birthday from earlier this week and would hate to lose them.
I am running Xperia Z stock unrooted, I presume this limits my options somewhat?
Any help anyone could provide will be greatly appreciated.
Thank You
Turning the phone on and connecting it to the PC should give you access to the internal memory, right?
There you can drag and drop DCIM folder, that's where videos and pictures are stored, to your PC and that's about it.

Unfortunately that doesn't seem to be the case, the phone only displays the contents once the Lock Screen code has been entered.
Is there a way to manually enter the lock code without the touch screen? USB host and a keyboard?
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Thanks
I think you can by fastboot but i don't know the command.

You need an USB OTG cable, and an USB mouse that way you can input commands via the mouse. There is no need to touch the screen, as the Z detects input from USB OTG without the need of set up anything.
A good advice would be: After you unlock the screen, set the screen timeout to the max time possible, so it doesn't disconect the phone while transfering the data to the pc because screen time out.

You can see the mouse hovering the screen. It takes inputs as if it was your finger so you can enter the pin.

I have the same phone but the screen is so damaged its not displaying anything, totally black. This makes it a bit difficult to use the mouse option, but could I plug in a usb keyboard and just type the pass?
Just found out its locked with the pattern, so neither will be any good!
To my understanding the active display sensors use the accelerometer to judge when to turn on - I'm not talking about when it is 'breathing' after you have received and email/text/etc.
Its an awesome feature not having to go to the home screen to see this stuff. (Though when you do unlock the phone from active display you get a brief flash of the home screen - I wish it would skip it completely)
However, I'm not convinced it really does 'turn off' in my pocket since when I carry it in my hand and walk a few feet, it is constantly going on and off due to any motion. Same with inside my car. Any bumps, stops, acceleration, etc that causes the phone to jiggle even a little (usually its in a cup holder or something like that) lights up the display. I know the battery drain is supposed to be very small with it.
What are your thoughts on this? On one hand its an awesome feature that I don't want to turn off but wish it wasn't so quick to wake in the vehicle or presumably in your pocket. In any kind of city driving it will be constantly going on and off, on and off.
Also, does the active display count as screen on time? I read somewhere that its only reported under Android OS?
Try this:
Cover your sensors, wait couple of seconds move it (without uncovering them) and try to activate active display, it should not do anything.
Thats exactly what happens in your pocket (I THINK)
It's very touchy and I wish I could turn off the motion sensing just because the time flashing on and off is annoying. It barely uses battery though. Less than 1% according to my gsam stats on a full discharge
You can disable Moto Actions to stop the motion sensing.

I'm pretty sure what you're talking about only disables the hand approach motion turning it on. (which is also annoying as of anything moves over your phone the screen turns on).
He is talking about movement of your phone turning display on which I believe is annoying too, perhaps more annoying than a hand motion to turn it on.

Your right. The movement sensor appears to be a part of Moto Display. When I disabled that, the screen no longer turned on with the phone movement.
I'd like to know if the motion thing can be disabled separately as well. I like being able to wave my hand over the motion sensor to activate the ambient display, but don't like that the thing comes on every time I accelerate in my truck.
The "proximity sensor" that turns the screen off when you hold the phone to your cheek during a phone call is supposed to disable to the Ambient display, so when the phone is in your pocket, or upside down on your truck car seat, the display shouldn't be coming on, or turning on from phone movement. Try it - cover up the top 1/4" of the phone (where the camera is etc), and then try and wake the phone - I can't get mine to do anything.
I have a cubby hole in my truck where the phone fits nicely and I can still see the screen face up. Sometimes while accelerating the ambient display comes on. That's what makes me think the ambient display acts on the accelerometer as well as the front facing motion sensor.
Yep the accelerometer is the issue. After reviewing battery logs since I've started using this phone I can see there isn't much drain from the time/black display lighting up all the time and it really doesn't seem to come on in the pocket unless you make sudden movements.
However any time there is acceleration or deceleration at a sharper rate and bumps in the road it lights up. Very annoying. Can't imagine how it is on long drives, etc. And it's stupid to just say "Oh turn it over" most people have their phone in a cup holder or some cubby on their vehicle.
Proximity sensor prevents the display from activating in your pocket, period. Move all you want, the display isn't activating
Display acfivates off movement uncovered as a feature anticipating you're picking up the device to look at it. Those activations are an extremely small fraction of battery usage, not nearly enough to affect you.
I find the sensor extremely annoying and I wish I could disable it. I have the phone next to my laptop and every time I move close to it the time lights up. Very poor design if they didn't anticipate the annoyance factor and no way for one to control it.

You can disable it. Why do you think you can't? Why don't you turn it off instead of complaining about it? While it's on, it's doing exactly what it's supposed to do. Personally, I keep it turned on, because I like it.
Turn off the "wave your hand" feature if you don't like it. Wave works from even from a foot away sometimes. Turn it off, and your phone won't light up when it senses movement.
In CM/LOS based ROMs you turn off the WAVE highlighted feature you see, in Quark Ambient Display:

Just turn off the Wave. (This screenshot was for another post a long time ago, so do not turn off the other setting highlighted.)
Various custom ROMs (Lollipop, Marshmallow, Nougat) have that setting in different places. Usually it's in Gestures, but Settings has a "search" feature you can use if you don't see it immediately.
If you are not running a custom ROM and are still on stock, I assume that setting is still somewhere on stock Moto Display -- because in the periodic debates we have people insist Moto Display has the same level of control as Quark Ambient Display.
Doing a Google Search -- which is quite easy if you want to try it sometime -- I found two answers turning off Wave in Moto Display. See what works for you:
Go to Settings -> Moto -> Actions -> disable 'Approach for Moto Display'.

the major issue im facing now is that if i lock the phone or let the screen timeout, the screen will not turn back on, but the phone is definitely working because i can receive messages and calls. i can even feel vibration whenever i try to put in my lock screen pattern, whether it was a fail or a successful unlock.
only way i can get it to turn back on is to force restart (volume down + power button for about 8 seconds), then it would work fine, until i have to lock the screen/ screen times-out.
other minor issue is i cant use the screen below about 60% screen brightness, the bottom half of the screen will be completely green with max brightness ( i can understand that is a hardware problem since i have a hole in the screen).
the confusion is, i never face the screen backlight not turning back on again after it goes off due to screen runtime when im in TWRP.
i was originally on Noble rom 2.7 no problems, Noble rom 2.8 no problems, updated to noble rom 2.9 started facing this problem but it was intermittent, i started rolling back the versions but the problem continued, i tried switching to EvolutionX, same problem.
Am i right for thinking this would be a driver/software/firmware issue?
Does the screen flicker, then shut off when you try to switch it on? If yes, its most likely the display. My Note9 has a busted screen and does the same thing sometimes, and at a lower brightness it flickers badly. If not, it might be a driver issue of some kind, but I would guess its the display at fault still, since OLED damage does get worse with time, and perhaps when you switched to Noble 2.9, it coincidentally got worse right after you installed it.

it does indeed flicker before it turns off, but since this post, noblerom 3.0 launched, although its not perfect, the screen does atleast work now, not everytime but the screen will eventually turn on after 3-4 tries. sometimes even the first time i use the fingerprint scanner.
