Text input in Opera - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV General

Has anyone else noticed a problem with trying to select suggested words in Opera?
The problem occurs when typing a long word into a field in a web form and it comes up with a suggestion. When I tap on the suggestion it accepts it and starts entering the letters into the field, however it also registers it as a tap on the area of the screen behind the suggested word. This then results in the cursor position changing and the later part of the word ends up inserted in the wrong place!
I tried it several times to be sure I was only tapping once. I am running Duttys v1.8 (full) ROM.

yes, this has happened to me the whole time I've had the diamond. I have used several different ROMs but it seems to be a problem in each.
Also the keyboard always defaults to ABC each time you tap in a text box, which is a little weird.
Sorry I can't suggest a solution but I'm interested if anyone else can.

Happens to me as well and is very annoying. Means I gotta use the arows to select words.

Dialer Scrolling Annoyance

when i place a phone call my normal procedure is:
1: press the green phone button
2: slide the keyboard out
3: begin typing a few letters of the name
4: use the arrow key on the keyboard to scroll down to the persons name <--- this is very important
5: hit return and talk
i am finding that i am unable to use the arrow keys to scroll down to select a contact on the Tilt as opposed to the HTC 6800. remember, i'm already have the kb open at this point and would prefer to just continue using it.
this then requires me to pull out the stylus or try and nail tap the contacts name from the list that appears.
it seems to only way to scroll through is to select Contacts first, start typing a few letters then scroll down and click the name then scroll some damn more and tell the phone to call. this strikes me as gratuitious.
has anyone else experience this annoyance and if so, has anyone found a solution?
i tried replacing the dialer with the touch dialer but it seems to simply skin the same lame functionality.
please advise.
I understand you want to use the kb at this point, but how hard is it to just raise your left thumb up 1.5" and use the D-pad?
I can duplicate the problem, but I've got a similar "OK... But..." comment.
Why use the keyboard? When the phone pops up, start tapping the numbers associated with the letters in the name and it'll intelligently start filtering the list. Then use a finger or the D-pad to select the one you want.

ok - i had never really done that. im just so comfortable typing on the qwerty kb that that has always been the method i have used which worked up until this phone.
only irritant i can find with the dialpad method is there is no space key for first letter first name first letter last name.
i can live with it i guess but its not nearly as bling when yer tapping on the dial pad like every other phone out there instead of using your kick ass slide out keyboard.
the habit may have transfered from my days with a treo where you simply type the name and dial.
very convenient.

Text Display Doesn't Work Right

I have tried searching the forums, but can't find anything about it. When I get a text sometimes and try to reply, the display where the words are showing up that I'm typing is smaller than usual. If I type more than one line, I can't see what I'm typing (and don't know if I'm making mistakes).
I think it usually only happens when I'm replying, though I have noticed it happening during normally opening up the texts. Sorry I'm not as descriptive, I have been using a tilt for about 8 months now (2 separate ones) and haven't really found a rhyme or rhythm to it yet. Is there a fix for this or anybody know what's happening?
Thanks for anything.
I haven't run into this myself at all. Are you speaking of the size of the text input box, or the font size of the text you're typing, or both? What programs do you have installed? Have you tried a soft-reset?
It's happened with every WM6 program I've run, as much as I can remember - ever since the I've had the stringed text messaging. WM6, WM6.1, Dutty's Rom, Laurenitis' rom (did I spell that correctly?).
I've done soft resets as well. I wasn't sure if it was a common thing that I just couldn't find searching. Anybody else run into this?
Sorry, it's the text input box that's the problem and I currently have the official wm6.1 installed. I've got a # of other programs installed:
AE Buttons Plus
Google Maps
MusicID
Opera
Pandora
psShutXP
Skyfire
SlingPlayer mobile
S2u2
I also use gullum diamond keys
If you go to Control Panel, System>Screen, there is an option to set system wide font size. Try increase that.
I have the same problem. It's as if the text input box at the bottom of the threaded SMS 'hides' behind the bar at the bottom where the softkeys are, so you can only see about 40% of the box. Very annoying if you're typing more than one line.
I've tried changing the font size, which doesn't help.
Changing the orientation of the screen doesn't help.
Ending the "SMS/MMS" application and starting it again doesn't help.
A soft reset sometimes helps, but not often.

i've experienced the problem you are describing on some of the recent HyperDragon ROMs by SJ...make no mistake about it, HyperDragon is an EXCELLENT series of ROMs.
for me, ending the sms/mms application and then starting it up again ALWAYS works everytime i've experienced the issue
...and i think it is caused by rapidly closing the hardware keyboard shut (which causes the screen orientation to begin switching back to portrait) right after typing a text reply in a thread and hitting send followed by pressing the hardware OK button (to close the thread and return to the inbox)...threads you open afterwards will then show this "shortened" reply input field. i'm not certain about the above scenario but i think i was doing some or all of those steps in some order just before experiencing the issue whenever i have experienced the issue.

Entering appointment problem

I don't use TF3D so have it turned off. When using the standard new appointment entry i need to put a space after the last (or only) word in the subject line or otherwise the word jumps to the next item you are entering usually location. Its very odd has anyone else noticed this.
I figured this is only the case with t9 if you dont tap on the word, it recognized (still underlined).
Regards Thorsten
Yes you seem to be correct, as soon as i switch off t9 it works as normal.

Selecting Text when scroll-bar is present

Hi,
Does anyone else have a problem with selecting text on longer documents (eg in Word Mobile)?
By longer documents, I mean when they are over a page long, so the scroll-bar is displayed on the right-side. The problem also applies to other apps where the scroll-bar is displayed.
I find that selecting when the scroll-bar is showing becomes very difficult, either with a finger or with the stylus. You need to press down very hard, and frequently it stops selecting while you drag or just doesn't start the selecting in the first place.
If the scroll-bar is not displayed, then everything works fine and selecting can be done with a normal light touch/drag.
I guess this is something to do with the Touchflo finger scrolling getting in the way of selecting text.
I did try asking HTC support, but they claimed they had no problem with selecting text, and so told me to do a hardware reset to see if that fixed it.
Before I try the reset, I just want to see if anyone else has this problem, or has found a way around it?
Cheers,
Ben

How are you able to activate the Compose field?

Hi all,
I had issues with the touchscreen, especially related to the N1 not responding to touches or text typing in the messaging Compose field. And, very often, the send button didn't respond at all.
I did a hard reset and the typing appears to be better, plus the send button now works every time. But, now I can only "activate" the compose field by using the trackball to select and click on it. Then, I can type text using the touchscreen (of course).
I thought that touching inside the compose field brought up the keyboard before, but maybe it never worked and that was really my problem (a misunderstanding of how to open this field). I've not found the answer yet, so perhaps someone can let me know if simply touching inside the compose field works for them?
Thanks much,
Ross
** Additional info - I just found, in the PDF Nexus One instructions, that it says "touch the composition field" to type a message. So, apparently, the hard reset killed this function for mine...

When I was having this problem and it comes and it goes. I simply hit the power button to put the phone to sleep. Then hit it again and unlocked it and the touchscreen worked perfectly. The issue seemed to be ongoing and the fix was irritating but I liked the phone to much to really give up on it. However due to an itch for the Sense UI I have given the Nexus One and have gotten an HTC Lengend and haven't had any of the issues I had on the N1.
