Hello,
Can somebody explain me how to set PIE as the default browser to use instead of Opera Mobile?
Thanks a lot!
Im not normally the sort of person to reply to a question with another question, but... WHY???!
Because I prefer PIE over Opera. As simple as that.

Use SSMaPa. Search for it in the forum.
I, for example, am not able to reach Outlook Webmail Exchange of my company with Opera (it keeps asking authorization for cookie, with no result) and with PIE I have no such problem

Thanks! I've downloaded the tool and I trying it now, will post the results.
Ok, The SSMaPa application was the solution!
Thank you very much!
will have to see if this will work with opera mini as opera mobile seems to lag a lot on my diamond.

I have Opera on my Kaiser. 26 days to go for free.
But I have problems being motivated to buy the version.
Anybody an opinion?
Have no problems with IE till now. But maybe I am missing some important features.
Huib
Have you tried "Opera Mini" ?
If not, try it, you will never go back to IE
It is super fast, very compact, and works, also with that neat zoom/unzoom!.
Again, the browsing and rendering speed of Opera Mini is superb.
Drag and scroll.
Highlight and copy text
Save images
Successfully renders web pages more frequently than does the IE - IMHO

Try scrolling down a long page with PIE and you will know why Opera Mini is better. PIE almost grinds to a halt after the first screen or two has scrolled up.
EDIT: Update to above entry. PIE now has a fix for scrolling issue - downloadable here: IE Slow Scroll Fix for Kaiser_Tilt.cab

Gotcha!
Tested them both with a longer page and the difference is clear.
Thanks for your input.

Hi!
can Opera-mini and other apps be run from the memory card satisfactorily?
i.e are they slower?
I wonder if my other applications such as Resco Explorer 2007 and Code Wallter can be run from the card too?
Ofiaich
Don't take what I say as gospel but when I had Opera installed on the SD card it didn't function completely correct - like didn't follow email links correctly along with a couple of other glitches etc.
Likewise I have always been a bit hesitant to install things that operate so cloely with the OS, like Resco Explorer, to the card. They have always seemd to work much better on the main memory. Just my opinion.
Thus I have Opera mini and Resco Explorer installed on the main memory while just about everything else I have on the SD card.
jcrompton!
Thanks very much! Sounds good to me, and I have space in the main memory!
I will get on and download Opera mini !

Opera Can Handle Regular Youtube!
Please Dont quote me on this, but if i am correct, Opera (paid version, not mini) can render many types of complicated flash websites including Youtube(Yes the regular one not youtube mobile). I say this because i tested it for myself, a while ago on my mda vario or vario 2 (sorry cant remember). What seemed to be a slight problem though was, it ran out of memory frequently (ram) and as such the program would not start if other applications were running in the background.
Opera users on WM6, your reviews and thoughts on this are much appreciated!

OK - so I just figured out how to get Opera Mini work via the Java app under programs -- have you been able to get email links and other http links to automatically be opened by Opera Mini - I made some registry changes to get Opera Mobile to be the default browser, can you get Opera Mini to do that ? (wasn't sure since it is buried as a Java program)

Well you asked for it. I am going to have to quote you. Youtube does not work on my 8925 in Opera, neither the moble specific version (says media file type not supported) nor the full youtube site. Ugh.
I agree that you wouldn't really want to use Opera Mini on the Kaiser....Opera Mobile though is the bomb! I just wish it was free like the Mini version is, but it's good enough to pay for anyway. PIE just is not very good at rendering most webpages.
opera is very good browser but the built in pie some times show websites better than opera example http:\\www.xda-developers.com

I don't agree , it's superbly fast, it's free and it has good viewing settings. For straightforward surfing it's fine. I say give it a try you may be surprised.

I just hit YouTube with Opera on mine and any 'watch now' links open the video for streaming in WMP. Is that normal?
What is in your opinion the best browser (last version) for our Kaiser instead of Explorer.
I never tried Mozilla Minimo or Netfront...any feedback?
For quick n easy when on GPRS Opera Mini
If on 3G OR wifi then opera mobile.
I've tried the rest and these are the best IMHO
I've tried Minimo and found it absolutely useless. Was not impressed with Opera Mini, but Opera 8.65 is Impressive.
I've never tried Netfront but I would like to.
To be honest I'm not sure that these kinds of thread get us very far - and often lead to arguments.
The best advice is try them all yourself and lookup Menneisyys guides as he does a superbly dtailed round up of these.
Having said the above, I'll ignore it and say this:
Another vote for Opera Mini's latest version (very fast and actually a nice set of features and viewing options - great on the road) Free so you can have it anyway alongside any other browser
PIE is actually pretty decent IF you install the slow scroll fix CAB (without the CAB installed forget it)
I also use Opera Mobile. Actually I sometimes run bothe PIE and Opera mobilesimultaneously- there are some sites that just render better on some browsers than others and it's not always consistently the same browser. So that's my choice or rather my three.
Mike
Can you post that .cab here. (PIE slow scroll fix CAB) I can't seem to find it in a search.
Thanks!

honestly i have found opera mini the abs. best hands down..the only thing i can say that it should add is a way to have more than one window. but thats it.
Another vote for Opera Mini. Don't forget to read my related tips & tricks, which make it MUCH easier to use - for example, the invocation hack. See http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Web Browsing, browsers

Try it with Jbed, using the hacks & shortcuts I've developed and/or explained in my Bibles. With them, OMini is WAY better than without.

You didn't lose much - OMini and/or Opera Mobile / IEM with a decent plug-in (PIEPlus + Flash + CrEme for Java) is WAY bettter.
Could you send a link to your bible ? Thanks

Let me disagree - if you know the right hacks/ shortcuts, Opera Mini is by far the easiest to use. Particularly now with the bookmark sync features between your mobile device(s) and desktop browser(s) - it REALLY rules!
I use PIEPlus
opera mini by far

Oh
Ok, is there any reason why i can't seem to connect to logmein web page using opera or ie?
yea...they should've made one browser..ie and opera together...havin problems with opera on my mobile too...everytime i rotate the screen to landscape mode...it minimizes:/...neone know a fix?n where can i download the latest version of opera?mayb updatin it will fix the problem...
I'm not sure if there is an update. I believe we already have Opera Mobile 9.5 (beta), which Opera lists as the current one.
But, if you don't care for the default Opera interface, perhaps you should try Opera Mini?
http://www.opera.com/mini/
For info on the differences between Mobile and Mini:
http://www.opera.com/products/choose/
I have to admit that i find Opera Mobile a hassle sometimes. Adding that the data-charges on my subscription is quite substantial I often use opera mini, wich really is getting good these days.
Still looking for the answer. I really liked Opera on previous devices, but really don't care for it on the Diamond. I don't care for the UI, or lack thereof, and the Favorites is a mess. Zooming and panning is a nice feature, but having to constantly adjust to get a decently rendered page is a pain. PIE is much better for me on the Diamond. Better/familiar user controls and better rendering.
I do have IE on a soft key, but programs that auto switch to the browser still call Opera as the default. Opera also eats a big chunk of phone memory. I have tried the 9.5 Beta and it's some better, but not much and does not delete the existing Opera.
So back to the original question...anybody know how to uninstall Opera and change the System defaults to PIE?
Thanks

Just installed it on my Diamond. Lightning fast. Never saw such a performance with Flash on a mobile. Forget everything else.
Think one reason why it's so fast: the Proxy sends only ONE file containing all subfiles of a web page.
Should be standard browser on the cooked roms
Skyfire... OK!
I agree, it is pretty good. The only thing I find is the screen isn't as sharp as Opera - an the virtual scroll wheel doesn't work in Skyfire to zoom in and out... a feature I just can't live without!
and where we can get this skyfire?????????

Is that means all my data should pass threw skyfire's proxy ? , If yes it's lame and risky by getting in the future Advertizing and lets don't talk about passwords etc..
Skyfire works the same way as Opera Mini. All web traffic is processed in a central location, compressed, and then sent to your phone.
You should never conduct confidential business over either of these browsers. But it's just dynamite for flash content!
Hi,
i could download skyfire only with the mobile IE. The default OPERA doesn't work with the site http://get.skyfire.com
And it doesn't work, it hangs at the "locating" message...

I totally agree, in fact I'd say the image quality is absolute rubbish, it's like using some old WM5 application. Hope this is corrected in future releases.
Does also feel very beta as well but it is a beta anyway lol.
Is good to see BBC iplayer working though
Can't wait for future release
non us
glad to see i can now try this....fingers crossed
will try when i get home now
i searched some threads but havent found anything.
does somebody know how to do it?
want to sync for example the push pages on tf3d that they will open with opera mini...
Ive often wondered if this is possible. I always assumed it wasnt as its a program within a program ie, you open the java program the you open opera mini. I remember seeing some code somewhere once so you can just click on one icon and it opens up both java then opera in one fell swoop. Im just about to go to work so i dont have time to search for it...

yes, totally both 4.2 and 5.0 beta which im loving it more than opera 8.65 and 9.7
I'm afraid it is not possible.
alright, would have been nice, but its not a big thing.
i'll start it the old fashioned way with the icon in the programs-tab.
wooooooowww, opera mini 5 is the god browser, when it got finished and take back the download manager(`cause every time you try a download it redirect you to i.e) it will be perfect, loving it, much more than i.e and opera...
i wish setting opera mini as defaut is really possible...
