Backing up ROMS - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

I recently reflashed my Orange branded Kaiser with HTC's official ROM from thier website.
After flashing the unit, the radio refused to work, and had to send it back to HTC and they replaced the main board, luckily under warranty. The phone now works great.
I am considering flashing to a new ROM but don't want the same thing to happen again. Is there any way i can back up the exisitng ROM so that if it all goes wrong i can go back to what i had before.
I have done some searching but there does not seem to be anything concrete or a procedure to do this. Can anyone help. thnx

I beleive that method is outlined in the wiki.

SPB and/or sprite backup are Comercial Apps than can backup your phone.
We have a copy of the WM6.1 Offical Orange ROM untouched on XDA-Devs if you need to flash back to it.
Here is a thread discussing upgrading and unlocking your Orange Kaiser:link
and here is another discussion I had with an orange user about upgrading: link
Take some time to get familiar with the Kaiser ROM upgrading process and then follow the advice in those threads and you should be fine.
Thanks
Dave

Thanks Dave i will have a look.

reverting back to original cingular rom

HAS anyone uninstalled or overrided IMATE UPGRADE rom and reverted to original CINGULAR 8125 ROM? IF so, please list steps. I'm within 30 day period and don't want to send back with HTC and IMATE info and splash pages
Thanks
same here.. please help someone.. someone...
i had the same issue, and didnt find original, but for what its worth, exchanged my 8125 with no problem with i-mate rom.
good luck!
IF you can find someone with an SD backup (you shoulda made one when you started screwing around!) this is trivial to do.
Otherwise its somewhat of a PITA......
could you please outline the steps needed to accomplish this simply?
I am currently back at the cingular rom, but I could not restore the extended rom.
Basic rundown, After screwing around witht eh imate rom, decided to try to go back, found out I could not.
There is a particular issue with imate locking the extended rom, and problems running awizard and lokiwiz on a imate rom.
So, I went a round about way (suggested by someone else).
I used the tmobile uk rom (comes with same installer as teh iamte one), once that was installed, I ran awizard, which ran fine, and restored my cingular rom and splash screen (this is of course assuming you made a backup of the rom the first time around).
Only thing I cannot do, is restore the cingular extended rom.

What you need to know before upgrading the ROM?

Hi all.
I've just got my new Orange M700 on contract and have a few basic questions before upgrading to WM6:-
1. Before upgrading is it sensible to backup the existing ROM etc? Are there tools to do this?
2. After upgrading SPL, GSM and ROM and presumably installing the latest UK network wizard software from HTC will the existing SIM just carry on working as before without Orange being any the wiser as to my actions?
3. In the case of a warranty claim or if I just want to go back to factory default for some reason, what's the recommended process (if any) of reverting to the original ROM etc?
I've been reading hundreds of posts here but thought it best to double check before proceeding. Could be useful for other newbies to see the answers to these questions as well I guess.
Thanks
good questions.....
the network manager is a good idea- wonder if there is one for the Aussie market??? Anyone?
from what i have read do a Hard SPL flash first in case of any problems.
No-one has yet extracted the Orange ROM for reinstallation. It is not a simple process! If you don't want to do it yourself, then there's no point in taking backups etc prior to a ROM update, because you can't go back Never try and apply a restore after a ROM update- you risk screwing things up big time!
Orange SIM's will continue working fine, and Orange will be none the wiser about the upgrade.
If you need a warranty repair, you will either have to hope someone has extracted the Orange ROM and posted it for download, or trust to luck that Orange will accept it as it is. A number of people have reported that they have successfully had a flashed device replaced, as long as the fault wasn't due to the ROM update itself.
If you are in any doubt, DON'T DO IT ! The differences from the Orange release ROM in the UK, and the cooked WM6 ROM's are pretty minimal, apart from the cosmetics.
Good info. Many thanks. Time to get flashing.
I'm in the process of dumping and rebuilding an Orange UK M700 ROM at the moment .... so hopefully I'll be able to upload it soon.
the only caution I would add is that you will loose access to the Orangeworld website after flashing, until someone can work out where Orange hide the files that identify the phone and allow the full graphics version of the site. Depends if thats an issue really
just to point out you can't upgrade to official WM6 for Trinity yet- the ROMS are cooked- i.e taken from other handsets and modified to work with Trinity hardware.
I tried many many cooked WM6 ROMS for the Prophet. All had pros and cons, but were too problematic to live with (e.g. wifi and BT setting vanishing, not reliably charging over USB etc).
I'll be waiting for an official WM6 ROM for Trinity - well here's hoping.

Excellent. I was going to have a go myself but haven't managed to make the time yet.
Fingers crossed, good luck etc

Need to go back to original T-mobile WM5 ROM, is that possible?!

I've searched the forum and the wiki, and there's is still a very good chance that the answer to my question is out there, but couldn't find it, so here it is:
I flashed my phone with one of the WM6 ROMS found in this forum and it all works great. Unfortunately, I have some hardware problem, so I want to bring the phone in for repair at the T-mobile shop... They don't really need to turn on the phone to fix the hardware I guess, but nevertheless I'd rather have the original T-mobile Dutch ROM restored before I send it in. Is that at all possible? I've seen a lot of posts referring to websites where you can get a complete original ROM and just have to flash it, but T-mobile only provides updates as far as I can see. Can anyone help me?

Reverting back to HTC ROM and SPL for warranty return?

At the point I am I need the help of experienced Users from the community.
I flashed a original HTC Wings (S730) with WM 6.1 ROM. It runs perfectly until I got a hardware problem (radio) . This is the reason I have to send it back to the official service.
Therefore I tried to go back to an official ROM from the http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=WINGS_WM61_Alcaline
At first I flashed the earlier backuped Bootloder via sspl-0.91-wings.exe. This seems to be okay. But as I tried to flash an official ROM from the site mentioned above, during the flashing process I've got the note 'ERROR 294 Invalid vendor ID'. What was wrong? Did I forget any step?
Please, is there anyone who can describe the correct way back to 'warranty' for a newbie?
Thanx a lot.
have you tried all the ROM's? there is one prerelease and two release ROM's.. try both of the release roms, they might be for different production models/locations.
I tried both official released ROM's (signed as 'Ship'), not the prerelease version.
and if you first flash the shiped rom (with hardspl) and when done flash the back-up of the spl
With reference to an earlier statement of bigflavour in the thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=383617&page=17
I flashed back the original SPL at first.
Too bad It seems to be that I have a new problem now. Few minutes ago I have tried to reinstall hardSPL on the device via the well known sspl-0.91-wings.exe running on the Wings. But as I started the sspl, the device shows on the display that 'Access denied....is not digitally signed with a trusted certificate'.
Thereupon I thought I had to 'application_unlock' the device. After running the SDA_App...Unlock on my PC the display message shows succesful unlocking process. B U T, the sspl doesn't run as before.
Now, I'm totally confused. What has happened??
It's flavor, and unfortunately, I have no idea how to help you.
Probably tried the European english's spelling hehe.
Also This does seem like an odd problem, have you tried for kicks doing the factory reset to see if it will reset some of the registry and maybe fix your issues? I dont know anything about the spl's since I have no need to upgrade to 6.1, I wouldnt imagine it causing any more damage but again I dont know what all was done. I havnt followed those threads for a long time.
Thanx a lot. Apparently, the hint to make a hard reset hits the mark. Now I flashed back the HardSPL. So I'm back at the starting line . Does anyone knows if the official ROM from the http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index..._WM61_Alcaline is the latest one and can I use it for the warranty return?
Or should I look for an original German HTC ROM?
I was a little bit to fast. I will need a German ROM definitely, because the ROM from the Wiki doesn't include a the german language option.
Is there anyone who can help me with a original HTC S730 ROM for the german market?
Thank you in advance.
Hallo HSN,
if you give me a introduction how I backup my ROM, you can have my one. I own a German HTC S730. But I am confused when I read all threads about flashing etc....
One page introduction how to back up and you can have my one.
But I think that the Repair center here in Germany, doesn't care about the Rom you have installed.

Before flashing Kaiser for the first time

Hi all,
I flashed my old Wizard numerous times ... before doing so on my new Kaiser, I'm wondering if there's anything I should preserve before doing so? Or is the AT&T ROM on rapidshare a complete ROM that would bring my Kaiser back to its in-the-box state, presuming I follow the restore process documented elsewhere?
No need to backup anything but your personal data. Everything else can be restored back in to the same state as when it was released.
All the instructions can be found on the wiki, starting from the HTC Kaiser page, under ROM Upgrading.
