Well guys i've had my phone totally messed up because i installed the HTC home plug and somehow it messed my phone up and i could not goto clear storage and for some reason could not get the prompt for the hard reset to come up. I searched google and here of couse and didn't find much except for soft keys and the soft reset button. Still could not get the prompt. So hopefully this can help anyone who cannot get the hard reset prompt. I searched to see if there was another thread about how to do this but i couldn't find anything so sorry if this is already posted but heres the steps that worked wonders for me!
1. go into bootloader mode by pressing and holding the camera button with the power button. then use the soft reset button.
(hopefully you come to the tri color screen.
2. When your at this screen.. press and hold then 2 soft keys and while holding those 2 .. use your stylus for the soft reset button.. and hold until the prompt to hard reset comes up
If you have done this correctly you should get the prompt to hard reset follow the steps on screen and you finally got the reset done!
I got this to work many times on the FIRST time so I didn't have to mess with keep trying. I kept trying before I found this and never got the prompt so this helped me alot!!
I'd hate to break your bubble but this has already been covered numerous times in the wiki and all over the kaiser section.
Nice try though
For the 100th time.......

MAKE SURE YOU ARE USING THESE BUTTONS and the soft reset button AT THE SAME TIME.
Unless you broke your keyboard, this WILL work. Please note that this is in the Wiki ALL OVER the place!
ok i know it's the left soft key and right soft key but the thing was i trying to get at was: it worked the first time for me when i was in BOOTLOAD mode. i tried hard reseting just on the today screen and i could not get it to work. i went into bootload and tried the reset and it popped right up. like i said it might have been covered. but i could not find where it said do the right soft and left soft while in bootload mode.

Boot loader is NOT necessary. Hold the two buttons, and only those two buttons, and hit the reset button with the stylus. Done.

Dude, can you read? He said that didn't work for him. So it sounds like it was necessary for him to use the bootloader.

Greetings,
I am trying to do a hard reset on my Tilt. When pressing both "soft" keys and holding the stylus in the reset button for a few seconds, the screen will go all white with directions to hit the "SEND" key to reset, and any other key to resume.
I cannot find the "SEND" key ... and everything I seem to try simply restarts the phone.
Any ideas?
Thanks!
The send key is the green key on the front thats shaped like a phone. The one you press to start a call.
i am attempting to do a hard reset while pushing both soft keys and using the stylus for the reset button but it does not do a hard reset. THe atnt screen shows and the radio etc and then it goes to the 3g animation (with no sound) and from then on the screen is just black.....
i attempted to flash my phone and during the process it went black. If i do a soft reset i get the tri color screen and it reads this
kais1*0
spl-3.28.Hard
cpld-8
and it says security unlocked above all of that.
When i attempt the hard reset it says
R 1.70.Olinex
G 25.65.30.04h
D 1.62.00.00
please help
You're either not holding the buttons down long enough.
Or you are "fat fingering" the buttons and pressing more then the two soft keys.
OR You have a USB cable plugged in.
So Unplug the Cables. Make sure your are only hitting the two soft keys d0own first. Then press your stylus in and HOLD for 5 seconds or until the Grey Screen appears, whatever is last.

Like the pic? It was taken with my Tilt! I was doing some baby shopping at Baby's R Us a little while ago, and I just cracked up when I saw the box... I knew I could put it to good use on XDA.
Hi All. I need to reset my O2 XDA Stellar which I think is a Kaiser.
I'm working away from home and have only had the device for a few days. For reasons I won't bore you with, I need to HARD reset the device. I *thought* it was a case of pressing the two 'minus' signs on the keyboard whilst holding in the soft reset button with the stylus - but this isn't working...it just keeps SOFT resetting. Anyone got any suggestions where I'm going wrong??
Thanks and Merry Christmas to all
To hard reset the kaiser, soft reset it with the stylus then quickly press and hold the two soft buttons on the front, this should allow you to hard reset it. Works ok for me.
this is from the htc tytn 2 manual. you can download it from htc.com
1. Press and hold the left SOFT KEY and the right SOFT KEY, and at the same time, use the stylus to press the RESET button at the bottom of your device.
2. Release the stylus, but continue pressing the two SOFT KEYs until you see the following message on the screen: you see the warning that all info on the phone will be deleted...
3.Release the two SOFT KEYs, and then press the phone/call button on your device.
Thanks...
Thank you both. Can I just check what is meant by 'soft keys'? is it the two '-' BUTTONS on the fold down keyboard?
Thanks

Yes, it is the same.
After I hard reset I continually get the "Tap your screen to set up the device" followed by the "Customizing Device" 3 second countdown.
When I hit the reset button before the 3 second countdown expires it brings me back to "Clearing memory" followed by "Tap your screen..." followed by "Customizing device" again.
It's like an endless loop.
How do I break it?

U need to wait and let the customization make its work, after the customization the phone will softreset on its own. So just make a hardreset and wait until the phone reboots on its own.
For u other guys, check my signature to see what hardreset means, there is also a pic for u.

To eliminate bloatware you have to soft reset after the screen alignment taps and before the customizations in three seconds screen appears. Right when the screen changes to the 6.1 desktop.
If the C. in three screen appears, it is too late and you have to Hard reset all over again

I don't think he was asking how, he appeared to know how, he was stating that it doesn't work.
Using clear storage in the program menu will do the same thing.
If after you do the soft key , soft reset thing you don't get the warning screen, then you are not doing it right. Keep trying . If you have big fat fingers like me, you have to do it several times before you get the buttons pressed right.
Try using two pencils or something to make sure you are pressing the soft keys all the way down.

i tried that its not working, i cant get into bootloader, i have two tilts one that works fine and this one, i can get into bootload on mine but the problem one doesnt get into it, it just shows the att screen and starts up. The hard reset by pressing the soft keys and soft reset doesnt work either
You bought a faulty unit and the buttons are dead?
not knowing, you accidently bought a stolen unit and it is well secured by the former owner? (not just MS)
Hmmmm you cant hard reset? Either your buttons arent working, your phone has a bad block, or you are not performing the hard reset correctly. Hard reset is a base operation of the phone controlled by SPL if im not mistaken. Hey guys... is it also possible his NAND could be corrupt?
Also, just in case, to perform a hard reset, the correct buttons to hold in are these ( Highlighted by a red dot on each ):

Make sure to hold them in tightly as you soft reset
yeap ive been doing that it just starts up normally, its weird, i found a few weird things.
When starting up if you plug in the usb cable it will freeze at the att screen.
when i get into the home screen 15 reminders go off and the annoying att song plays over and over but i can get glimpses of the old owners stuff and then goes to the sim lock screen. If i plug in the usb at this time everything will freeze but itll still play the att song and vibrate and it then shut off after 10 seconds.
Ok, I don't know what I did, but my tilt isn't working. I can do a soft reset and everything boots up normally, but when I try to use the touch screen or the key pad, NOTHING HAPPENS.
I flashed the bengalih raw rom 2.0 and everything was cool. I started installing cabs onto my phone and that's when it happened.
I tried doing a hard reset - softkeys + reset with stylus, but all it does is soft reset and back to the same problem.
I can't get active sync to recognize it either. I searched for this problem, but couldn't find or didn't see this particular problem.
HELP!!!!
Oh yeah, I can't power it down except by pulling the battery.

I push soft reset, then immediately push and hold the soft keys. I release the stylus and hold the soft keys until the d*@% thing boots up to the today screen, and that's where it stays, and stays and stays. The only thing that will do anything is a soft reset or pulling the battery.

Well............
I did that about 6 different times, just like you said and the same thing. I even had my son push the soft reset while I held the soft keys just to make sure I was pushing and holding the soft reset.
Someone please help before my tilt brick becomes inbedded into my brick wall.

Something about the power/camera buttons?
dude seriously..
To HARD reset, press and hold BOTH softkeys on the front of the phone [ the buttons next to the hangup and answer buttons that are labeled with a - ]. then KEEP holding those buttons, take the stylist and press and hold it into the reset hole. Keep holding everything until a WHITE screen appears, follow the instructions on the WHITE screen. which should ask you to press the send key [ that is the GREEN call button on the front of the phone ]
.
Are you pressing the correct softkeys??

I'll take the bricked phone for $100
Serioulsy now... sometimes hard reset doesn't work right away. What I do is:
1. Softreset
2. while the phone is just about to start the boot sequence, I press both softkeys and reset it again... you will see the softkeys flash and a white screen will appear asking if you are sure blah blah blah... just press left green key and when it finishes nuking your ram content, press green again.
Voila.
Tony
Success!
OK, it finally hard reset, but - I'm not sure what I did to finally get it to do it.
First thing this morning, I pulled out the SIM and memory cards. I did a hard reset (which was really a soft reset due to the way my phone was acting), same old thing, booted up but gave me a NETframe error saying the application needed info off of the memory card to install. Tried hard reset again, same thing.
Next, I installed my memory card, but not my sim card (while phone was powered up if that makes any difference) and did another hard reset.
THIS time it did a hard reset.
I don't know if this was the fix, or maybe I was pressing the soft keys too hard, man I don't know, but my phone works now and I'm taking the cab installs really slow this time, I don't know what cab screwed up my phone, or maybe cabs, can they conflict with each other, but I'll be a lot more careful this time.
Thanks a million to all who replied. You guys are the best!
Maybe I can actually get a good night's sleep tonight
Guys,
I am sorry, to post this request. I have tried searching on this forum but haven't achieved what I was looking for hence the post.
I gave my old Kaiser to my 12 year old after upgrading to Touch Pro. He put a PIN Lock on the handset so that his friends wouldn't see his mails. After a few months of usage he managed to change the PIN and forgot it. Now the handset won't unlock. Also on the PIN unlock screen there is some kind of counter going on.
I tried the recommended way of hard resetting. Pressing the two SOft Keys and inserting the stylus in soft reset button. Then hold the soft keys for 20 odd seconds and press Send key and then wait for some confirmation. But all it does is soft reset it.
I thought of flashing the ROM with the standard 6.1 again, but everytime I connect the phone to the PC, it first asks to unlock the handset first.
Is there a way out?
Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks.
your pressing the wrong "soft" keys prolly. press the two "inner" buttons, the "minus signs" and reset with stylus button

Make sure you are doing it like this. If it is just soft resetting, it is because you are not getting the soft keys pushed all the way. Use two pencil erasers or pens. The soft keys were not made for fat fingers.
