Alright so, long story short. I went to go jetskiing today, on the Potomac River, and well, I thought I had taken my phone out of my pocket before helping my friend take off the jetskis off the tralior into the water, I waded out and felt my pocket get really heavy, and just so happened my phone was in my pocket. I freaked out and popped out the battery. ( i think thats what saved it. ) but so i just left it in the car, so it had time to dry. Came back about 4 hours later, and went home and put it in a bag of rice, I turned it on though, spiting I wanted to know if it worked. Phone worked, but only out the back speaker and volume was muffed and really low. Touch screen worked perfect! but none of the hard keys worked. I was pretty upset so I put it back in rice and popped off the back speaker cover and prayed that it would work. Just a bit ago, popped on the back cover and turned it on. EVERYTHING WORKS! I was so shocked, at first it was being tempermental. But a few soft resets and BAM worked like a charm
my little rant about how my phone survived a little swim with the fishes.
mods, please move if its not in the right area. thanks

Hey,
It is a great thing that you had just added the "Bubble Cab"®.
The only authorized and working application that saves your device from
drowning. (as it surrounds all of the small and electrical connections, soldering points, and internal parts, and completely squeezes all impact of water and moisture from your baby (the phone). When _any_ water or fluid contact happens or occurs !
Also as a further precaution the rice trick*© probably did not hurt !
--- All jokin' aside ! Still kinda laffin' .....
I was really happy to see your phone didn't drown ! (VERY Sincerely)
Your quick thinking to take it apart (the battery, and all) and allow it just to dry. Probably did the trick.
Anyway was very happy to see your AOK !
And another little known fact the Bubble Cab® will in fact ! Resuscitate a drowned phone !
And can be purchased via tru Mr. Mbudden, his Program is currently out of Beta !
And Full Product BubbleCab 1.01 ® is a steal ! at $16.95 !
Thanks
david !
Bubble Cab®
Hey !
Also, let me know when the Beta is finished on :
Bubble Cab® ² ... Diver Edition®
For Deep water/ Long Trips Scuba Edition®
Can't Wait ! for this
take care ..
david

The Kaiser will, of course, complement any diving watch!!!
I had an 8525 which fell in the Atlantic and pretty much the exact same story. Pop battery out and rice it I learned a valuable lesson. Dont drink and fish in Ocean City...... lol
Patomic huh? I bet we have seen each other out on the water at some point ( although most of my boating now occurs on the Magothy and out near the Bay bridge these days lol )
Glad to hear your phone is well!!!

Um... Fell in the ocean and you just dried it, you didn't flush it out? Mmmmm, corrosion. How long ago was this?
To the OP (and everyone), I would suggest you not use the phone unless it's been drying with rice (or, get dessicant) for several DAYS. I think you got lucky it still worked after such a short drying period.
I think the phone would have recovered faster had you dropped it in the toilet right after Kumar visited White Castle. Potomac river water can make you lose your hearing! That water is nasty!

This was well over 4 months ago. As far as I can tell it is still working as it should ( I havent used it in a while but I just juiced it up, put my sim in it , powered it on, and tested with a call )
I probably should take it apart again and clean it, but im not too worried about it.
I do have 2 tilts now afterall...... the 8525 was just around as my backup until i got my second one lol

Was geting out of the car today, and dropped the phone in to the water.
There is mist under the screen . And now touch screen not working.
Please help, is there any cure for this?
First, be very greatfull you still have a semi-working device!
Second, install MS Voice Command - this should give you some functionality
Third, if you search on the forums for the service manual and and get one of these.
I'm told its a very tricky job but as its a touch phone and you have lost your touch, its got to be worth a try!
usually, when electronic devices get wet, you should immediately remove the battery and let it totally dry before turning it on.
And then send it for repair or diagnostics to make sure it's still functioning. At this point, I think your best bet is to send it for repairs.
Good luck, hope it's still repairable.
turn it off and leave it somewhere warm for a day or two.
then turn it back on.
if it is still not working right you need it repaired.
Take the battery out, and then pack your diamond tight, submerged, in a bowl of uncooked rice.
Trust me I've seen this work miracles before. The rice draws out all the moisture, it's amazing. Then cross your fingers and hope you got that battery out in time...
You'll need to leave it in the rice for at least 24 hours.
Good luck
p.s. Put the battery in the rice also.

You can cause problems when you cut corners like that... Static electricity is one.
Ok, so far everithing in working (GPS,camera,g-sen,phone,), and the touch screen works again, but the bloody screen... lots of watermarks on it.
I wouldn't worry about that, that's good so far. A mate of mine dropped his i-mate in a pool and he brought it back to life (with the rice trick) and his screen had those watermarks for a week. In fact it looked really cool, the background had this awesome colour to it, and the LCD had this strange depth to it (no pun intended) it was quite funny really, he was upset it went back to normal in one week!
this is probably the same "stuff" you would get on a window. I suspect that you may need to open it up and clear this away from the underside of the screen. Guess you could try some pressurised air BUT this may be too strong for a delicate phone.....
Is it possible to separate screen cover from screen(background)???
Cause its get worse with time. Couple hours ago, mist(water) was on 5% of the screen, and now on whole 80%. Now there is no white color but grey.
Just put your phone in rice.
Leave you phone turned off in some rice for I'd say 2 days, but you clearly want to use it to the extent you turned it on when it was still wet (very bad idea your lucky) so I would suggest you put it in dry rice every night off whilst you sleep and hopefully that will aid the drying process.
Next time take out the battery as soon as you possibly can. Take it apart as much as your comfortable with doing and leave it in rice for a min of one whole day.

Yeah i get it, but im on work now and i Need to use it. I cant get rice right away. So i'v put it on the betacam (kind of expensive heater).
Comparing to my friends SE K850 (that was flooded ider) my Diamond is in the good working order, when he flooded his SE - Camera,Speakers = dead ,Phone = no network ,Display = waved. When mine was showing new mail massage from underwater
Anyway thanks everybody for your respond.
I'l wait couple days for screen to get back to normal. will post if something changes.
Right, was unable to find the rice, but rolled in toilet paper for 1 hour. And hey presto now its fully functional, no any marks.
Solved.
But thing near strap holder is red now
OMG, this was the first thing i said.
suddenly my X1 fell into the toilet straight into the pipes!
but before it goes into the water, a good thing happend! the battery popped out . this might be a good sign
lucky me, i recovered my phone, but will it work?
i don't know, it's out of warranty anyway so let's open it, clean it and see what's inside.
steps done so far (started @ 10:00 am GMT+3)
1) washed the phone, with every single cleaning liquid i ever found
2) started opening the phone and cleaning it from the inside (yes, puring it with water and some cleaning/anti germs stuff) and yes including the bords.
3) finished cleaning it from the inside, now drying part (current status)
4) dryubg is over, connected everything together (without the body of the device, only boards) and YEPPPPPPPPPIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII, it's working.
a) Touch screen is fine, LCD have some problem (seems it still have some water in) i will dissamble the LCD completely.
b) no other problems to the main hardware (as PDA, i didn't test the speaker or anything else!)
5) OS Is not booting now, LCD is missing the RED Color, getting stucked on the SE Logo!
6) got really tired, i think this will need time, went to the shop, bought an HTC Touch HD
7) i will continue working on X1 untill it's fixed.
i will update this as i progress.
wish me luck
[12-5-2009]
Finally got some time to check why the phone is stucked SE Logo.
- first tried a hard reset
it didn't solve it, i thought maybe flashing a new ROM will help.
- Flashed a new ROM (HSPL already there before),
Still the same issue, the LCD is missing the Blue Color Sometimes, its a carbon connector for sure and can be fixed, but why not booting?!
[28-5-2009]
- got more time to work on it
- flashed nX1i_v1_04_WWE, still, stuck on se logo!
- Check attached Images
Edit : i replaced the LCD, the phone is booting now but it's taking around 4 to 5 minutes to boot, it get's stucked at the SE logo then it continues.
i'm able to flash new ROMs.
BT and Wifi are not working.
BT is turining on and off but i cannot use it, my X1 cannot be found using any other BT device when it's on visible mode. and cannot send files from my X1!
Wifi : Not turining on at all!
anyone with ideas? i really suspect the flexcable due to any accedental push i made when opening the device but it's expensive to replace and honestly, a new X1 would cost a bit higher!
dang thats unlucky - as long as the battery fell out it wouldnt have short circuited anything then i guess - just dont turn it on till its SUPER dry

do you think it's possible to use the elictric hands dryer? or it will do some problems?
don't think a hairdryer should cause problems
about warranty then think all phones today have
indicators which show if they have been wet because
dropping it in water is not covered
surprisingly many people seem to drop phones in toilet
read it was the most common way for them to die
Are you shure that you aren't just in a bad nightmare?
My aunt throw already three mobiles into toilets, don't ask my why
Everything I can say is, that none of the phones could be reanimated
I have too admit my Xperia fell in once, after a few days all was okay, exept dpad wasnt functioning, and i couldnt hard reset or enter bootloader ( weird problem ) with the keys. Ended up replacing it, and forget asap.
Hey,
sh*t happens. Anyway. Here is a link with a thread called: my phone got wet - what should I do!
Even I never had such an accident before I found the solutions quite useful.
Have a look:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=448106
Greets
I haven't read that thread posted above yet, but never use a hairdryer/hand dryer. The can be quite hot coming out of the nozzle, if you're not careful you can melt plastic with them (I work in a helpdesk, I've seen laptops come in after a tiny spillage but with melted keyboards after being attacked by a hairdryer).
Best bet is to take all the covers you can off, dry with a towel/kitchen paper (toilet paper breaks up and leaves lots of little bits) and leave to dry *slowly* resting on a towel, folded several times over, on top of a radiator. Leave it there for 24 hours, more if it looks like there's still water in there.
I'd expect to see tide marks on the screen afterwards though, especially if you live in a hard water area. If you live in a soft water area you might be luckier and have very little residue.
Maybe u should let the x1 go where all the good phones go, phone heaven.
bit of advice dont answer your phone as u take a leak, friend done that in a nightclub and then had to reach in and get it out. even my beloved x1 would have stayed there (take it as a lose lol).
ps. i hope u get it working bud
I read in an iphone forum that you should bury the phone in rice since the rice absorbs all the moisture.

But don't eat the rice afterwards, its been in the toilet!
Go and buy some Isopropanol, now open your phone and disassemble everything.
Fill some Isopropanol in an cup or something an lie the board inside. (IMPORTANT: The microphone and speaker and camera shouldn't get wet so get it off the board or if you can't you must seal them)
Now let the board lie in the cup for 1 night or so. the isopropanol should evaporate. the clue ist that the isoprop. is binding the water and the salts etc. in it and evaporates with them.
With this method i rescued several phone which was gone swimming
Sorry for my bad english

Kids...be sympathetic...
Anyway, also happened to me a while back, but with a PDA.
I dismantled it, washed it part by part and it worked like a charm after that.
The only thing was, the LCD was permanently stained or smth. One of the light diffusers into the lcd (which was paper btw) was damaged by the water.
But it was functional and I could still use it ok...until I fell on it...
And this happened (check attached file - if you look closely you can see the right part of the LCD is kinda missing)
I'm pretty curious to see your display after you manage to get it working...
Can you get some pics online?
I once accidentally dropped a Sony Ericsson device in a large glass of water - it completely recovered. Hope you have the same luck
Hi guys..
I've gone into depression! My cell phone fell in water and it probably stayed there for 10-15 mins. As soon i saw that I removed the battery and left it for drying for 3 days and I haven't done anything else to it like charging or trying to switch on in between. After 3 complete days I switched it on - what happened was that the display looked clean it showed the SE logo and then the logo remained there and after a while the cell restarts itself and shows the logo again and thats it - it keeps doing it until i remove the battery!
I thought the OS is gone crap so I checked if it still recognises my OS - i pressed the vol down button and started and it properly showed my OS.
I tried formatting the cell (Hard reset) - it successfully formatted itself and when it restarted - the problem persisted!!
I would've easily gone to claim my warranty but I have Hard_SPL installed in my cell and I believe they will take it as a tampered phone and not rectify it.
I simply love this phone can anyone PLEASE help me solve this out?
Anyone? I need you guys' help!
Darn No one replied here or what! Anyways I got it done myself!
All I can say is warranty wont help for water damaged phones (they can check) and perhaps looks at youtube videos for removing water and perhaps flash a different rom. Never happened to me though.
If you have insurance, claim.
Otherwise - thats it
Hmmm...if it drowned, it's probably dead.

I\ll summarize what I did.
The moment I saw i removed the battery, sim card and kept the cell for drying. The last day, 4th day, I kept it in an air tight container and kept that silica thing which comes with every electronic packing to absorb moisture. Put everything back and switched it on - Not a trace of what happened - it worked as it did b4!
Just to add my friend's cell phone - Nokia E72 hardly a week old was also with mine. He switched it on after 20 hrs and it worked fine!!!
Hmm. It may be a bit late, but try throwing it in a bowl of rice for a little, sucks out all the moisture, (whenever i wet my electronics, this trick always works) usually about a days worth of time. Other then that, Try flashing a new rom, you really can't hurt it any worse, and since its loading the boot thingy, you may still have a chance...
Hey guys as I mentioned before. my xperia is working fine now It worked after I dried it for 4 days.

One thing you missed is to soak it in distilled water before drying. That'll make sure you don't have a thin film of salts/dirt/gunk on your board, especially if the water it fell in was dirty
yeah you are right but i came to know about it only after 3 days between which I had no access to the Internet. After 3 days I dint have the guts to do it and I was pretty sure the water was clean.
I fell in the water with both my x1 and ipod touch and both of them died
but put them both in a tuber-ware with rice on the radiator for 24hours and both came back from the grave as good as new

My friend regrets buying E72. Not because he doesn't like it but because when buying he didn't think of any other phone. He was taken to a mobile shop and he was told (by the one who gifted this cell to him) to buy any cell phone he likes. When he told me about this I shouted at him for doing this blunder of not getting an iPhone or something. He said he dint realise it
I personally think E72 is a bad choice.
I went to a river just for fun with my friends. I'd kept my cell and this guy's cell in my bag and went swimming, the bag slipped into a stream of water... ;( I had three cell phones in this bag. X1 and Nokia 6630 which are mine and my friend's E72. 6630 had a narrow escape! But luck wasn't all that good for the other two
So yesterday at work I was on the pooper and somehow managed to drop my phone right between my legs... not sure how.
Anyway, I pulled it out of the water almost instantly... damage is already done. Took the battery out and put the phone under a fan. I get home and I submerged it under rice.
This morning I turn it on - everything works. I'm so excited... Nexus One bootscreen.... bam, my rooted baby. Uh oh.. wtf... yeah, the touchscreen doesn't work. . I keep getting android process is not responding blah blah
My question is, is it worth it to try to maybe reflash to another rom to see if I can get the touchscreen working? Or should I Just buy a new one off ebay?
so sad...so gross...
Theres probably corrosion on the connector for the touchscreen to the "main board" (only board) if not in other places.
Disassembly is not that difficult (have to be slightly "handy") and you might be able to clean crud off the connections/legs of ic's.
Ideally for this job you would want a microscope (magnification of some sort), dental picks, alcohol, qtips, compressed air, and deoxit (and of course the torx driver)
Disassembly instructions:
http://androidforums.com/sprint-htc-hero/22036-sprint-htc-hero-disassembly-diy.html
If not too much water has gotten in you should be able to clean it. There is a chance you have corroded off traces on the board, or shorted some components...then youre kinda screwed (unless you know how to fix such things which im guessing you dont or you wouldnt be writing here).
But then you end up with a phone that you put near your mouth that you have no doubt "did a number on" which for me would be a little too gross to handle.
to answer your question...
flash a rom.. only takes a few minutes. Why not? you can not make it any worse!!!!! gross!!!!
and.. try to take it apart and see if you can clean it up some more...follow the posters above's advise.
nope its done for. i give it a week. your running electric current through it while there is still h2o on the contacts. that will speed up corrosion by 300% or something. you should have left it off for 1- 2 weeks for EVERYTHING to dry up. now its just a matter of time. enjoy it.

You're assuming it has been on.
I haven't even turned it on yet with the exception of 3 tests. I completely disassembled the phone today thanks to a youtube video. I cleaned every black circuit I could find... I pretty much cleaned everything. Yes, I found 3 pretty badly "burned" circuits... cleaned them all off. Turned the phone on as a test, and bam - everything worked, touch screen and all ... without flashing a rom.
Now the phone is sitting in about 4 pieces sitting under a fan.. and will stay there for a few days. The front piece + screen, the circuit board, the rear panel and the battery cover.
Thanks for your input, if it wouldn't have been for you I would immediately be using it. You could try to cheer up a bit, though.

Trust me when I tell you I'm not ballin'. I'm your average 30k joe who wishes he went to school.. I'm young enough to go, but can't afford it. The state gives me little to nothing.. and loaning through freddie/mac isn't worth it because your origination fees are more than your tuition for your first year in school.
I just have to have a phone - I live on my own, I don't have parents within 200 miles of me.. I have my boys, and my fiance - that's about it. Hell, I'm STILL paying for that ring.
Battery
Just for your information the battery has the same water sensor that the phone, happens. It could fool a Sprint rep if you preform wisely.
Nice job!
You really want to make sure you (VERY CAREFULLY) scrape off any rust or corrosion then apply something to stop the corrosion from occurring again (deoxit). Dental pick is best, exacto maybe (both used with a very light touch if youre not used to doing this). Dont slice any traces or wiring !! Dont get too aggressive, just get the big stuff off.
ALSO! Clean out your USB post and headphone jacks if they were submerged...same thing-rust (and poop)
Cheer it up a bit? Arent you happy you fixed your phone yourself? You're welcome!

whats your water damaged phone story? did it survive?? or anything else electronic that is water damaged
ill start with mine: during soccer i was subbing and i wanted water and so in a hurry threw the bottle on the bag which led it to get my phone wet, everything was wet and it would not turn on. kept it in rice for a night and it started working till today. btw it was a touch pro 2
Was drinking one night and had to pee really bad... ran to the urinal and as I started to pee I heard a clank but didn't pay much attention. After I was done I looked down only to see that I had just peed all over a phone that looked like mine... and that phone was currently in the process of being sucked down the urinal drain. I never saw it again. It was a palm pre and wasn't really missed very much.

When I was younger I had a Gameboy (Which one I don't remember :/) and I dropped it down the toilet.
I was sad.
Once, me and my mate were in his back garden having a water fight, and he had his bag on the floor.
So first i stood on his bag and then just messing i squirted the hose pipe in it so it was full of water and he went MAD!!!!!
I emptied his bag and a few books and his mp3 player fell out lol!!!
I then realised why he went mad, it was crused and dripping with water.
I took it home, took the battery out and put it on the radiator to dry overnight.
Put a battery in it and it come on!!!
Played music and worked!
It had a cracked screen but worked.
LOL!!!!
6 months later he bought an iPiss.

2 years ago I had a cheap digital watch that was supposed to be waterproof, went for a swim and it became dead meat.
I bought a casio after and it is still working
However I had another incident with my smuggled SE M600i
I went home one day and it was really dirty, so instead of choosing the good LCD cleaner, I went for alcohol , and wiped the whole device.
Two minutes later the touch screen died I was WTF?
it was too late when my brother enlightened me with the information that alcohol degrades touch screens
no one knew how to fixed it and thought it was Chinese sh*t
fixed it after I bought my TP2 thx to me and to a Chinese spare parts site
very confusing to see such a thread! i think im master in destroying my phones
first one i lost was on a rock festival where i fell straigt into the mud with my phone in my pocket. phone was down immediately
my second phone i lost was when i was drunk and want to get some beer out of a fountain where it was for cooling... so it was dark and i thought it's useful to use my phone as a lamp ...u can think what happens next
and the third i just lost while i'm on tour - mine and my girlfirend's phone together.
this were phones like nokia or samsung, now im on nexus one and i guard it "with my life" everytime i go on a party i take my old SE
cheers
