Phone - No sound from speaker after a of standby - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV General

If my diamond is in standby mode for awhile and i make a phone call, i don´t hear anything. I must reset my diamond to use it for a correct phone call. Does someone have the same problem and hopefully have a solution? Thanks!

Do know how long it has to be in standby for? And is it reproducable every time?

It is different: sometimes 15min sometimes 1h. After a reset it works longer but then i have the same problem again. Just now my diamond was in standby for a 1h and didn´t work correctly.
Using the 1.37 and 1.00.25.03
I tried to upgrade to 1.00.25.05 with the offical htc rom upgrade but always said my battery is less 50% and the installation process stops.

And presumably your battery is over 50%?

Just tried before again. But the same less 50% power warning message and stopping installation issue. My power settings told me 100% fully loaded.

Same problem
Same problem here, drives me crazy. I didn't link the problem to the phone being standby though.
I sometimes have it after receiving a message, sometimes after a whole night of inactivity, sometimes not at all after a day...
But in all cases all audio stops and a soft reset is the only solution...

here is maybe solution : tested this morning and no problet yet but it's batter to test more days
SOLUTION
Some users of HTC Touch Diamond, the latest Windows Mobile 6.1-powered Pocket PC Phone, may encounter an obscure and weird problem when receiving SMS (also known as text message) while HTC Touch Diamond device is in StandBy mode with LCD screen powers off.
The symptom may be different from phone to phone, but the following scenario roughly describes the problem that faced by HTC Touch Diamond PPC Phone user. When the phone is in inactive stand by mode with screen off, the phone does not notify owner or user when by ringing ringtone or SMS tone sound or audio alert, nor vibrating the device when there is any incoming text message or SMS message. Only 5-way keypad light is blinking.
Sometimes, the device does play sound or vibrate, but not both together. Only keypad light flashing is confirmed to work properly. Some users also reported that if there is already new existing unread SMS text messages on the Touch Diamond phone, then the audio ring tone sound alert and/or vibration then work properly when there is new incoming SMS message.
The issue can cause HTC Touch Diamond owner to miss some important SMS text messages. It appears that the no audio alert sounds and no vibration (not even a delay trigger) issue after receiving SMS or text message is probably not caused by defective phone device, but caused by specific SIM card for unknown reason, as the issue happens intermittently, and may not happen when changing to different mobile service provider SIM card. One SIM card that been identified is Hong Kong SmartOne SIM card.
For HTC Touch Diamond who facing the no alert been made on incoming SMS while in stand by mode issue, but can’t change the SIM card, here’s a few possible resolutions that may fix the problem.
First of all, make sure that the phone is correctly configured to playback audio or sound alert or vibrating. Go to Start Menu, then select Settings. On Personal tab, tap on Sounds & Notifications, and go to Notifications tab. In the “Event” drop down list, select Messaging: New test message. Verify that either Play sound or Vibrate or both is selected.
On the same screen (Notifications), as a workaround to fix the issue, try to tap to tick the check box for Display message on screen.
If above resolution doesn’t help to make the phone notifies you via sound alert or vibration when receiving text message while in sleep mode, another possible fix is to enable SMS Wake Up Event. To do so, download and install a registry editor on the HTC Touch Diamond Windows Mobile device (such as PHM Registry Editor, see workaround to install PHM on Windows Mobile 6). Navigate to the following registry key branch:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\BuiltIn\RIL
Locate DisableSMSWakeUpEvent entry, and change its value to 0 (the value is 1 by default).
All else fails, you may have to try to perform a hard reset on the HTC Touch Diamond, and send the device to HTC service center for repair or exchange

Did you document this yourself or find this info somewhere? I would be interested to know where its come from, if possible.

I have the same problem, except that this happen after i use the BT headset profile (all sound output is redirected to bluetooth headset, and it seems that it won't revert back to original profile after you turn off BT profile) :S

at this moment since my tests my diamond is well
no sound problem
4 HOURS and no sound problem !!!
it will be ok if nothing bad until tomorow

well, thats fair enough if you were experiencing the issue normally within that time.
Was that just from enabling the SMS wake up?
That setting can be changed with Diamond Tweak/Advanced Config/TF3D Config if nobody fancies editing the registry by hand.

oh no !!!!!!
i let my diamon switched on all night and this morning .... no sound !!!!!!!!
I will return my baby to SAV for reparation, but I don't know how many time i'll waiting and I'm worry about finding the same problem when my phone will be back

I had a feeling this might happen...

I've a new one since yesterday and no problem !!!
I'm very happy

I had to send mine in for repair

Has anybody found a solution for this? My Samsung Blackjack II is constantly experiencing this (although soft resets don't fix it - I have to hard-reset and recover from backup). Any help welcome.

I have same issue but the soft reset does not work. I had Mighty Rom 4.8 on it at the time and so I tried flashing back to Bell stock rom but problem persist. Read somewhere flashing to a 6.5 rom might help but not in my case. I tried Mighty 6 rom with no luck. I still have sound though when I plug in my headphones so I'm thinking the speaker may have just died on me? Might have to reflash to bell stock and relock and return as there doesn't seem to be a fix if there is one yet.

Serious Bug: Device password freezes start menu after phone call

I have now done several test and have found what I believe is a serious bug in the ROM, making the Kaiser virtually useless for business users.
When the device is protected by a password (Start/Settings/Lock), the start menu freezes after ending phone calls. In addition, the backlight turns off.
This only happens if the phone call is long enough (more than a few secs) for the display to turn off during the call. This is to prevent accidental button presses. When the phone call is ended the display should come back up, however, this is where bug seems to manifest itself. Somehow the password protection gets in the way and turns the display off and freezes the start menu.
The reason why this is serious (especially for business users) is that when you use MS exchange sync, many businesses enforce policies requiring a device password (common & recommended practice). This means that the option of turning the device password off does not exist. Therefore, using exchange sync (with security policies enforced) and making phone calls does not work.
I have now made several hard resets and used two different SIM cards. However, I was not able to try this on adifferent device. Therefore, I would be grateful if somebody could try if they experience the same issue. Disabling the device password fixes this, so you won't be stuck if you try.
I will return my device tomorrow for a full refund, unless the store can show that this problem is specific to my device and that a replacement unit works properly.
Many thanks for any help!
Cheers
Magxs
what rom are you using? I have not seen this problem at all on the various AT&T ROMs.
I am using the official & released HTC TyTN II ROM on a device branded as such. Got the device on Tuesday as official retail unit, so it is not pre-production or beta.
Interesting to hear it works on the ATT ROM. HTC must have messed it up. Maybe it is just my device.
Thanks for the info.
Ok, there is a workaround now that I can live with for the moment. All you have to do is to toggle the power off and on when it hangs and it is all back to normal. Not too bad.
Hope they fix it though...
Same error for me!
Hi Magxs
I cannot tell you how pleased I was to find that someone else has experiencing the same problem! I have _exactly_ the same issue. Like, you, I use the phone for business use so there is absolutely no way I can use it without a device pin (well done on discovering that by the way). As you mention in your last post, switching it on & off fixes the issue but it's a bit of a pain.
HTC have got a good reputation on getting fixes out quickly so let's hope that'll be the case here.
Ben
Always good to know you are not alone with a problem. I also have a thread about this over at MoDaCo: http://www.modaco.com/Bug-Device-password-fre-t258974.html
The issue is getting some attention now. Just hope it is enough for them to do something about it.
Hi
I have built a small application that will hopefully resolve this problem, it is over on the thread at: http://www.modaco.com/Bug-Device-password-fre-t258974.html
The problem with the Kaiser seems to be because on a call when it has a password set it's entering an "idle" mode rather than just turning off the backlight. Idle mode is something normally not used on PocketPCs. Once in idle mode it responds to key presses etc but doesn't leave "idle mode" so it appears frozen or in an odd state as nothing lights up!
Regards
Phil
I experienced even more issues!
Please can you share with me if you have found more complete solutions?
I experience "freezing" after long calls, same as you.
But also when replying to SMSs
Even when the device is not used for some minutes: first backlight goes off or almost off, then the start button (software and hardware buttons) become not responsive:solution? Soft reset! or wait 25 secs
Please help
Saulo866
Problem is widespread
I too have this exact same problem. If the phone screen goes off during the call, the end button will lock the screen. Have you noticed that pressing and holding the end button puts a screen lock on the device?. Never seen this in any other device. Normally holding the end button cancels the Data (HSDPA, GPRS etc) connection. I will try the solution and see how I go.
This is just one of a number of problems. I also find the phone goes in "Roaming" mode even when connected to my own provider, and there are annoying problems with calendar synching. Gr8 device...but!
KaiserCallEndFix.exe needed
I cannot log in to Modaco. Even after registration, no validation email sent to me. Can any friend here post the fix for TyTN II ( KaiserCallEndFix.exe) here, so I can download it!
Thank!
This has gone rather quiet, I'm using the Reg edit listed earlier that forces screen to stay on during call but it's not ideal.
Anyone else solved it besides the button press workaround or Phil's Exe file?
I also suffering a different side effect from this problem.
I choose to deactivate the lock function to avoid the on-off procedure after the end of everycall. But every 1-2 days my device stops working because it starts asking for the lock (even though the lock function is disabled!!!!!!).
If I soft reset the device the problem disappears. Does anybody also have this problem?
Is there any news on when HTC will definitely solve this issue?
this problem stilll exists. thought it was just me. Just got 2 phones from orange - complained tothem about this bug & they sent 1 replacement phone. even though I told them it was a software issue. new phone arrived and problem is still there . Orange have escalated the issue to their technical people. I await their response. I also spoke with HTC technical support in the UK who claimed not to be aware of this issue. One thing they did agree with was that if youhave a pin , when asked to input the numbers upon switching on the device , the screen goes half dimmed so you cant see properly what you are tapping in. no mention of a fix anytime soon though. lets hope HTC do sort this out an drelease a fix because I do really like this device.
great forum btw
My phone has had this issue since I got it back in Feb/Mar 08, i just hit the power button on/off and dealt with it. I'm suprised this thread is months only and HTC hasnt fixed it yet. Why are they so slow to fix issues?
omg, thanks god that i am not going crazy,
ive been using a mda vario 3 on t-mobile,
since dec 2008, got the same freezing problem...
hoping for a update to be released by htc etc, then got a replacement phone after 6months, and still same problem.
i just spoke to the technical dept and he doesnt know any problems with this,
thanks for the insight on how it occurs.
so now im gna have a serious complaint abt this, to t-mobile.
and get htc to sort it out.
heheh

Backlight Defaults to MINIMAL After a Call! And Other Problems.

Good Afternoon
I had a new TyTN II Delivered from orange after mine was nabbed at the weekend, and i locked it remotely. When i make a call now all is hunky dory, but whilst in that call if i go to press START for example nothing will happen, so again i try another way and press X to go to the today screen to then press start, Nothing happens.
I inform my caller ill call them back, and end the call by either pressing "End Call" or pressing the Red Button, and then instantly the Back light defaults to a very low setting, and it did NOT do this on my previous TyTN II.
I have spent a fair while looking through here and google (and also MoDaCo Forums) trying to find a solution. I only know of one other person on MoDaCo who has the problem, and i have tried hard reset on the device too to no avail.
It is a Orange HTC TyTN II, so i have called them also for advice and they know about as much about it as i do.
This is a plea for someone here maybe to lend me a hand and sort this out, otherwise its going to collide with the nearest large surface in the next few days ha ha.
Thanks again for reading, and I hope someone can help me!

screen off
I select don't blank/turn screen off in a call, as I often want to enter dtmfs for mailboxes, or conf calls, downside uses a bit more battery
Hi mgr2003.
I have these options set, and it doesnt make a blind bit of difference unfortunately. I was hoping for some kind of CAB file for a fix? I dont know whats wrong with this device but its not as good as my previous TyTN II.
Sean
This question keeps being asked about once every week since the TyTNII came out. Sorry, but it is getting a bit annoying....
Once again: it´s caused by a bug in the HTC ROM and happens when a device password is set and the backlight times out during a call. Solution: disable the device password or - if you want to keep the password - push the power button twice after a call and you are back in business.....
That would be an all well and good answer but i do not have a password set on my device, so the answer doesnt justify?
Cheers for the Advice though.
Sean
I also have that problem with my tilt....when i am on a call the screen turns off..How can i disable this?
In that case I apologize for my somewhat rude reply. Your problem description just seemed to fit that bug exactly....
Sorry, have no idea what else may be causing that behaviour. Good luck, and if you manage to fix your issue be sure to let us know!
Did you use Kaiser Tweak to disable fast sleep?
Hi
I havent done anything to the device, it is exactly as shipped by OrangeUK. Its only 3 days old now, so not even had a second to do anything but use it.
Sean
I have an Orange TYTN II and this bugged me too.
Download Kaiser Tweak http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=333898
Follow instructions on thread and disable Fast Sleep (advised)

I have this problem but ONLY after listening to music over a bluetooth headset.
I know this maye sound silly, but when you test your phone to make sure it is going to ring, make sure the volume (buttons of side of the phone) is up full.
A few times I have been in 'normal' made, but the phone only vibrates - this is because I have somehow lowered the volume by pressing the side keys.
May save a a few blushes, you never know!
Help
Please guys, help us solve this problem. I dont know what to do anymore, and it is driving me crazy.
Thanks.
I noticed this behaviour on my Diamond last week. Not sure if it is related but I had similar problems on my old Trinity. When switching between vibrate/silent and normal sound profile Windows would not always register this correctly. Further investigation revealed the the system volume was being updated but the phone/ringer volume stayed at silent. Do you often switch between Silent and Normal?
Never got to the bottom of this on Trinity, although it did improve (happened less often) after I flashed WM6.1 over the original WM5. As there seams to be a silimar issue on Diamond I would guess that its either a WM6.1 problem or something to do with the way that HTC's profile switcher interacts with the OS.
Only thing I can suggest as that next time it happens you check the ringer volume either using the Sounds setting (Settings tab on TouchFlo) if its set to 0% then it may be the same thing.

do you have sound setting on ring THEN vibrate? also to fix your ring lag, try diamond tweak. there is a ring without delay tweak in there.
I have the same problem. I'm on 1.37 ROM - I only noticed it recently. All other sounds play fine, and the speaker volume is correct and it's not on silent or vibrate.
Phone setting is Ring AND vibrate, but trying Ring only doesn't work either.
I'm disappointed with this phone performance though think it's the Touch Flo. I tried a 1.93 but they took out the transitions - no idea if the ring worked then or not - but it was no faster IMO.
For god's sake a phone which never rings is bloody ridiculous!
I wish I kept on the original Orange UK ROM verison....
I like the idea of a hard reset - but have zero confidence it will work. I do know it will take 30 minutes minimum to set up push mail, apps and all the other stuff again.....
I have a similar problem, posted it HERE
Sounds don't work (ring tones and MP3s), I can't hear my dialog partner and they can't hear me. It's very odd. Only switching off the phone helps. I'm very disappointed with the phone's performance.
This issue has been reported before on the Tytn II (running WM6 and WM6.1) so its not a TouchFlo problem - if you search you will see instances of it cropping up all over the place but no 'official' response from anyone or indeed any sure fire fix to stop it happening.
In some instances people are attributing it to using a Bluetooth headset; on others, bluetooth has not been used at all and it has still happened. One of our managers at work had the problem on 3 successive MDA Vario III's (Tytn II) and then has had it again on a Compact IV, all running the stock ROM.
I would suggest it is an issue inherent in Windows Mobile, although it cannot be ruled out that its only in HTC's implementation as I have not heard of it happening on other WM devices. And it is highly intermittant - it would seem that if you have a device susceptible to it, then it will happen no matter what. If you don't, then it probably won't happen ever. So that, in itself, could point to a build/hardware fault affecting certain batches of devices.
I think if you experience this issue AT ALL, then you should return your device under the warranty and demand a replacement, and keep doing so until you get a good one. Until HTC admits there is a problem and does something specifically to resolve it, this is possibly the only option and might actually force them to do something if so many devices are being returned.
By the way, posts suggesting that it might be due to the user having inadvertantly lowered the volume don't help - while peoples input is encouraged, input like that highlights that you have been lucky enough to not suffer the problem. If you had, you would know that it is utterly independent of what the volume level is set to.

The ring is set Ring AND vibrate. The problem have nothing to do with witch volume the sound is set or the profile. And I rarely set the fone to vibrate only.
oh f**king great! I hadn't realised this was an issue and have not only unlocked my ROM but also flashed to a new ROM from the original!
Does anyone in the UK have an experience of returning a handset on Orange where this happened?

Problem – Automatic pick up an incoming call when the phone is in a case

I searched everywhere in the forum but I did not find the answer to my problem.
I have a problem with automatic pick up an incoming call when the phone is in a case . This problem does not occur when I have my Diamond outside case. Always when the phone is in case the phone automatic pick up an incoming call after six rings - no sooner and no later. I tried all the settings but I still failed to resolve the problem. Its really bother me, because when i have my phone on mute and i dont hear the phone, he picks up an incoming call.
Has someone any idea how to solve this problem? I would be grateful for any idea.
Sorry for my English
Download Answerkeys Disabler mate from Here Will solve your issue..
It disables software buttons (Accet/Reject/Mute) during an incoming call and enables your hardware buttons only of the device.
Hope that helps.
I already have it, but the problem is still there. Always when the phone is in case the phone automatic pick up an incoming call after six rings.

"This problem does not occur when I have my Diamond outside case"...Thats why I suggested the Answerkeys Disabler mate...The only logic I get from this is the case is the one accidentaly answer the call..Tried other lock apps like sensor lock and stylus lock?
Try also to make sure that your not enabling the "Automatic pickup" option in the phone.
Start > Settings > Phone > More tab.
You can use S2u there is a setting that you have to slide to answer

I have tried this program but still when i dont want to pick up the incoming call, the phone answer him sell after 6 rings. Because when i put the device out from case I dont have this problem.
Is there any chance that the light sensor have something with this problem?
Same problems
I have the same problems with mine ... just tried a hard reset... but its still doing it.
Its bad news ... especially if I have it on silent in a meeting since it answers itself and whoever is on the other end unwittingly gets to hear the discussion.
Oops - last post refers to X7510
I was searching in the X7510... had not noticed that this thread was in the Diamond forum. I guess it may help anyway since it does not appear to be specific to the Diamond or X7510 hardware. Seems unlikely to be dependent on operator ... I am with O2.

Strange audio issue

It now happened for the third time: The phone is up and running but when an incoming call is received it does not ring at all and the microphone + speaker is also not working (muted) - basically there is no audio at all though you can take and end the call.
Once the phone is in this state alarms and sound notifications are no longer working as well, after a soft reset everything was fine again.
I wonder if I'm the only user who has experienced this kind of issue.

Ah okay - at least I'm not alone with this issue, good to know.
It seems this problem is not a common problem, as I do not read any other posts regarding this issue in the Xperia section. Though I found a thread in the Diamond section that exactly describes my problem.
As HTC stated the problem is related to a hardware issue, I returned mine now. I'm lucky that Amazon.de just returned me the money (completely) so I can buy another one in the next days.
It seems I am having this problem with my X1i. I am in the US and the Sony Ericsson support centre in the UK is telling me that I would have to pay for shipping to and from the UK Sony Repair centre.
The following web page suggests I am eligible for international support and repairs, but I called the US Sony Ericsson line and they told me that since the X1 was not released here yet, that I would not be able to receive support in the US for the X1 (either for getting it repaired or a replacement unit).

I would send it back to superetrader.co.uk and get a replacement that way, but they do not have any in stock and given delays in shipments in the UK I am hesitant to send it back and wait for new stock.
I am going to try going into a Sony Style store sometime this week and show them my "Travelers service" card and see if they can get it fixed here. Does anyone have any other suggestions I might try?
bluetooth problem with carkit and audio off
I folks,
i do also have the same problem. I have a SE BT car kit HCB 300 and it is just annoying, that it does not work proper. Sometimes BT works, sometimes not, sometimes i have to restart the phone, sometimes ... just annoying.
A lot of times Xperia recognizes the 300, then i am calling somebody, phone is giving signal to the 300, but after a few seconds, audio is off again.
After that audio is not working anymore.
Could it be, that your problems are also caused by the known BT problem?
Ingo
Exactly same problem
Exactly the same problem as foo.
If you remove and replace battery, sometime problem is solve, sometime no.
Soft reset solve the problem.
I made hardware reset + flash xperia but no solution.
I returned mine and bought a new one that does not have this issue. It really seems to be a hardware issue.

It could be, although I have not paired with a BT headset since buying it, and in addition I have hard reset the phone and put it in airplane mode (no RF at all) and the audio still manages to completely die where only a Soft Reset will restore the sound (as noted by x1inside).
Depending on the amount of time I leave the phone sometimes the phone after playing some music for 5 seconds will stutter and restore sound. This is similar to the description in the Touch Diamond thread that foo linked. Also when this stutter sound restores, as noted in that thread, the reception indicator in the system tray indicates that the signal is temporarily lost and then restored.

Thanks for letting us know, good to have this confirmed so when I visit the store or send it to Sony Ericsson repair centre, I can refer them to this thread.
well i also have the same problem with my x1.
reseting it dosent work, flashing it with new rom dosent work.
But i cant understand how the problem would be in the hardware, when you reset it it starts working! i mean if it was a hardware problem the sound should be of all the time?
Is there ant possibility if this is a software problem, i mean WindowsMobile 6.1, because my dad complaining the same behavior yesterday, and his device is Samsung Omnia.
Do all WM6.1 effected?
I got the X1a in the US. No problem here. When there is an incoming call and I was on the phone then it will beep to let me know if I want to answer or inorge. If I answer then it will put other call on hold till finish talking then connect me back to the first caller.
My x1 is also affected by this audio problem. If I restart my phone sound output works for some minutes and turns automatically off as the other users reported.
Same problem here just got an X1 and the sound works perfect after leaving it a short while the sound completely stops working no music, notifications or anything. By the sounds of it I think I will send mine back to O2 and get a replacement, although it does seem more like some sort of software fault than hardware to me, like the previous post why would it be corrected by a soft reset every time. If anyone has any suggestions before I send this thing back I will be happy to try them.
I returned my x1 and after 5 weeks of "repairing" I got called and they said it cannot be repaired and I got a brand new phone.
I had that exact same problem. I'd leave my phone alone for a while and then when I came back to it a few hours later, it would have no audio at all. I could make a call, the other person could hear me but I couldn't hear them and it wouldn't audibly alert me to anything...
I couldn't pin it down to any particular circumstances but it was always resolvable with a soft-reset. A hard-reset didn't cure the issue either. I just sent it back in the end. My current one is fine although I have now upgraded the ROM to the latest one.
I do have one outstanding issue though and that's that when sending a text, it sends immediately, flashes up the bubble saying msg sent, but the vibrate from sending the message will come about 10 minutes after or it'll do it when I turn the screen back on. It's not a biggie but it's a bit weird.
scarey
I have the same prob, but its strange that when pushing the MS-Voice-Controll button the beep comes and everything works perfekt again.
So I don´t need to soft oder hard reset, but it drives me crazy not knowing whether my alarms or notifications do work or not. BUT: I cant believe its a hardware problem.
same problem...
With 3-4 custom rom...
I'm trying with orginal ROM...
Any news?
