Using Tomtom navigator, it always takes about 2 minutes to get a satellite fix (with quick GPS updated) on my Artemis/MDA Compact III . On occassion it's even longer, but in general, 2 minutes. Never less time, apart from closing navigator down and starting it up again when it'll then get a fix pretty fast.
Is the GPS receiver on the Diamond, specifically, the T Mobile MDA Compact IV any faster? I believe there is no quick gps feature on it? Also, I read somewhere on this site that someone with navigator 6.02 got a fix in seconds. I have navigator 6 and now I've bought nav 7. I'm not sure if my navigator 6 is 6.02, probably not. I'll have to check.
Its probably v6.75
Im running v7.45 and it takes me 2 minutes (sometimes less sometimes more) to get a cold gps fix. I find alot of buildings are my biggest enemy when locking onto a satellite, but thats old news.
I am not running Quick GPS but I was planning on trying it out.. the reviews are pretty good on an htc.
Running a diamond here too.
Using a diamond with the .07 radio and Quick GPS I get a fix in about 20 seconds
im using the 05 radio and quick GPS, i get a fix in 30 secs
For me, it's definitely a TT7 issue. When I use any other of my GPS apps, I get a fix in sub 30 seconds in all but he worst of signal/sky obscurity situations. In TT7 it usually takes a minute or more... the difference is so pronounced that if I need TT quickly, I run up Fugawi to get a fix in a matter of seconds, and then I run up TT.
So perhaps TT has some kind of higher signal quality threshold or something??... or maybe it's just the programming in its startup routine that's slow.
Diamond SwiftBlade V6.5 radio 05, sorry dont use TT, use IGO8 takes about 5-10 seconds, memory map OS takes about 5 seconds, RunGPS is almost instant warm. Cold add about 10 seconds on each.
.05 radio, fix in about 20-30secs

Same here in any GPS app including TomTom 7, even indoors I get a fix in under 30secs and connect to around 6-8 sats even if the GPS has not been used in 24hrs.
Im using TT7 and .07 radio/quickGps and I get a cold fix in 20-30sec, warmfix we are talking about few seconds
I had few probs with GPS, but now with Duttys V2 ROM (A-GPS is initially Off) + Radio .05 I get the fix within 10-20 seconds in any application.

Similar here 15-20 sec
less then 30sec. even for cold start
Wow, you're all getting a fix from cold in 30 seconds or less
Either I need to find the right navigator that works faster, or try another GPS app. Thing is, tomtom is the best one out there isn't it? Or maybe my artemis will never be able to get a fix faster than 2 minutes with any app.
me too abot 20 secs usig destinator 7
well quickgps doesn't work for me .. it keeps saying connection failed. with a-gps turned off, on swiftblade's rom, with igo 8, i get a fix in ... well .. not to make a fool out of myself .. 3 minutes or more ..

Had that problem too once. Had to do a hard reset to make QuickGPS work again. Now, using iGo too, I get a fix in 20-30s.
So I used to get a fix in about 2 minutes until I added the SUPL GPS to enable aGPS.
Now my TTFF is 5 seconds @ and an instant 6-8 birds. Indoors add another 10 seconds or so.
Heres the reg keys in a cab.

Hey guys, I just read up on igo8. A lot of people are saying it's the best gps software, better than tomtom. I saw a youtube video and all the maps have 3D buildings and landscapes, looks awesome. How good is igo, and does it come with speed cameras?

Hey, do you happen to know of a similar registry fix for the artemis?

Sorry I don't. Maybe ask in the same forum (not sub-forum) that the file came from.

This is my problem... It finds many satellites in the sky... connects... stay about 5 seconds like this... Then connection gones... Same thing both for TomTom and GPS Tuner program... I've stayed for 15 minutes under sky... always same loop... Any ideas to solve it? Remedies?
Same for me sometimes. Got last SwiftBlade ROM and recommanded .025 radio
I've been using swiftbl 5.5 for a long time and really like his rom... also .25 radio like you did...
ok i'll try to switch to 5.6... I think key parameter is radio rom but anyway... it seems there is not any other remedy...
I'll be happy if someone states another solution...

Yep... same thing was happening to me - turn off A-GPS (Diamond Tweak or Advanced Config can do this)
Use only QuickGPS (this is different to A-GPS)
Does a soft-reset help?
I appreciate this isn't really an acceptable fix, but it might help quantify how severe the cause of the problem is.
Mathew
it seems it is solved by itself now... i don't understand really... So it's all about signal quality i guess... time to time good time to time lousy... so there are not enough satellites on Germany... noone believes this, right?
But I'll keep switching off agps in mind... thanks everyone...
Your symptoms are not indicative of signal quality problems, but as you're sorted that's all that matters.

Well, now that most of us have the Fuze GPS working, one thing that would nice is a little app/service that wakes the GPS up several times a day and attempts to get a fix.
Rather than waiting until I need to use the GPS, then turning it on and waiting for a fix, it would be great if it had at least connected sometime during the day.
Thoughts?

I think the software you are looking for is called QuickGPS. If the satellite position information does not expire your device should get a fix within under 10 seconds, so there is no need for any additional software. Just use QuickGPS so that the satellite positions are always up to date and that's it.

I think he means more so after a soft / hard reset it can sometimes take several minutes to get a full fix even after running quickGPS.
I have had it take 4 - 5 minutes even after running quickGPS. It started with one satellite and slowly grabbed 1 every 20 - 30 seconds until it had about 7 then it got full lock. Once that was done reacquiring a lock took no time at all.
I wonder if it goes to "sleep" or something as a power saving feature?
That's all well and good if you are in the same spot as you were when QuickGPS ran last. However, my problem with many GPS systems is that I don't use them often enough to maintain a sync.
What would be ideal is if GPS would stay on all the time and/or there was enough battery to keep GPS on all the time.
If you use your GPS to drive to your dentist, for instance, then drive to work without your GPS because you know the way, then need GPS to meet friends for dinner, your GPS cache is based on your dentist, not work.
What I'm asking for is an app that kicks off GPS (presumably) while you are at work. If this happens multiple times a day, it shouldn't take much battery life, but your data would always be up to date.
Alternately, is there an easy way to just run QuickGPS multiple times a day?
Moved to software.
Try Beeline GPS or Visual GPS.

I use it for the same job.
I find myself frustrated when I need the GPS fuction on my Tilt, but then it takes 2-3 minutes to locate me from a cold start. That can feel like hours when I am late and lost. When it is warm, the GPS fixes in 5-20 seconds.
It seems a program that keeps the GPS in a state of warmness (maybe starting up and getting a fix every hour or two) would really help me out. I don't have a pocket full of batteries, so leaving the GPS on all the time is not an option.
Is there something like this out there, or do I have to try to build it myself?
Thanks for any help,
Will

I've been thinking of the same thing...
2 things you can do:
1) use network location when possible. It really is better on batteries and much quicker.
2) Use a program like tasker that flips on GPS for an alotted time to get a fix every so often. I'm thinking about using a multiple profile setting that will automatically run a GPS fix when I leave my work or home networks. But it would also run once every hour when I'm away from those networks and only when I'm away.
Question: I was looking through the market, and stumbled on an app called GPS Booster. Tried it for kicks, and got an instant navigation lock first try, each after three reboots.
Anyone have any insight into this app? Is it just a fluke, placebo, legit, what?

I did some looking and it appears they're applying changes to the GPS server settings as per this thread:
http://forum.samdroid.net/f38/gps-speedup-1262/
I'm tempted to try the FasterFix app, which should be the same thing as GPS Booster:
http://forum.samdroid.net/f10/fasterfix-1747/
so are you saying this works? LOL
I tried it. When I opened it said GPS booster failed. But locked in 10 seconds. Then uninstalled and did many reboots and it locks in 10 seconds consistently. Going to keep an eye on this. Did installing this alter something for the better?
good day. From my Fascinate using the XDA app.

I believe it's the same as the Fasterfix app. It changes some of the config settings for the GPS. Once changed, there's no need for the app after that.
This is my understanding at least.
Locked fast for me too...even after uninstall, but I'll wait a while to retest it. I ran both apps (fasterfix and gps booster lite).
Lock after reboot was always just a little painful. But 7 sats in under 10 seconds after 6 reboots this is getting me gitty with the consistency.
good day.
I'm tempted to try the FasterFix app, which should be the same thing...
Just tried faster fix and couldn't get it to open, constant fc's after following the instructions on the link. Gps booster did load, run & give a fail msg but it seemed to work...

Frickin' strange isn't it?
good day.
Will be keeping an eye on this Definitely try it tomorrow after letting it idle overnight.
Yea, this sounds about right. My school does research in gps acquisition. A good algorithm will help with quickly aquiring satellites. Not sure about all of how it works, but I guess it would be pretty cool to learn.
I installed this on my fascinate and it almost immediately i was connected to several satellites. On my wifes it sat there trying to search not finding any after a few minutes. Turned it back off, then she installed the app on her phone and within secs on her phone she had 5 satellites. I will test again tomorrow but so far definitely improved connection time.

I used both.
Are you doing this test in the same location every time? Only real way to tell if this is working is how fast of a lock it gets in completely different areas so the GPS is not looking in the same spot for locks.

Tests were done traveling throughout the city in a work truck. About 6 fixes after reboots with an average of 30 mile intervals and all locks were fast.
good day.

Nice. Sounds like this might be a good thing to have then. Thanks for the info.
Thanks to the OP for bringing it up even if it is in the wrong forum.
My tests were with 2 of the same phones. 1 rooted and one stock both using gps booster. Both at the same spot. tomorrow i will try within my travels with just my phone as well with a power cycle in between trials.
Are you guys using the full version or the lite version?
Like many other Captivators I've tried all the GPS fixes and nothing really ever worked very well. I flashed Apex 10.1, changed SUPL settings to the Google server like I always do, but still no real improvement. A few days days ago I thought I'd screw around with the General settings and try out the different Operation Modes (I've always had it on MSBASED). None of them did much except the Standalone option. Now my GPS works almost perfectly with gmaps. I get 15ft accuracy and it doesn't bounce around like it used to and I get an initial lock within about 10-20secs. I've been trying it out every day since Monday to make sure its not a fluke and doesn't degrade over time, but so far its been great.
This kind of goes against everything I've read in these GPS posts since last year. Is my phone just weird or has anyone noticed this also?
Have you ever tried Heathens GPS fix? Search it out, after installing change a few settings in lbstest.
Operation mode MSASSISTED
Accuracy 40
Then delete data.
Now, download GPS status from the market. Let it dl it's data. Then check maps. I had locks down to 5ft in less than 20 seconds, maintained 5ft lock at 60 mph.

Just tried it out but no dice. It was really strange when I used MSASSISTED though. It got the first reading for the satellites then GPS would turn itself off. Tried it out with GPS Test and still did the same thing. Tried it with MSBASED and STANDALONE and GPS stayed on and it jumped between 5 and 15m, 7-9sats.
