Hi,
I probably can claim the title of the first guy to drop a touch pro on a flight of concrete stairs. :'(
Afterwhich (painfully ignoring the scratches), I realise that my GPS doesn't seem to 'home' at all.
Anyone could help me on troubleshooting if its a real physical damage before I send it (overseas) for repair?
What problems are you having?
I mean, do you get serial information from the GPS? Doesn't it fix the satellites? More lag P)?
this happend to a friend of mine.
he dropped his polaris and no GPS signal anymore. he sent it to the repair center and, yes, gps antenna broken...
...it was repaired foc

i was using TT7 and it works, but after the dropping incident... i cant get a fix to the sats... now after reading more threads, i cant pin point is it the HTC gps lag issue or due to the drop
is there any way to diagnose?
what do you mean getting serial information from gps? sorry my knowledge in this is quite limited...
I had an X500 before and I dropped it just once and the GPS wouldn't work after that. I had it for more than a year so no free repair. I opened it and saw the antenna was out of place. I repaired it myself following some guide (made for that precise PDA) and it was working again (better than before!).
You should bring it back to where you bought it without mentioning that you dropped it. Just tell them that GPS doesn't fix anymore.

I dropped mine on the road when getting out of a car. Except for a dent in the aluminum frame it's just like new.
try GPStest.

i think GPS test will show you if you have a GPS module or not.
It will not show you if the antenne is broken.
BTW, when you shake the phone, is something loose in the phone?
Thanks for the replies everyone!
@g-fall: when i shake it, it doesnt seem that anything is loose...
@WeeRuz & Scotchy49: My drop was worse, there is no way I can hide it, The sides were scratched, the battery casing flew out, the battery was scratched, the stylus plastic was chipped. It was on a concrete staircase... *sobs*
My problem now is I'm miles away from where I bought this device, so I want to make sure it is a hardware fault before I send it back....
which GPS program do you use?
BTW, you didn't change your ROM or RadioROM recently, right?
Just read that some people have GPS problems with radio .08
Had my X500+ GPS on, fell out of my hands, GPS never worked again. It seems to be a very delicate part...
Hopefully it won't be the same with you, and it will work eventually!

nope, i'm still on the original ROM, and i'm using TT7 and at the same time I did try out the HTC GPS tool that was floating around, but for the life of me, I've no idea how it should work.

Hey,
I got some problems(aside from those). i just bought the dopod housing for my cingular 8125 because my old housing was cracked in alot of places. did the whole swap no issues and afterwards i cant seem to get a radio signal. now for anyone who hasn't looked yet there is a strip that is located under the antenna cover that connects to the antenna pins and that (as far as i can see) is touching fine. during the swap i did not touch the antenna itself.
now before anyone thinks it i'll go ahead and let you know i did go through the frustrating process of movign everything back to where it was but nothing changed. i also (on my other pc) am trying to reload the radio rom i was using before to see if that will change anything. so i guess for right now i'm kinda looking for anyone who has faced the same scenario and how they solved it, just incase his doesn't work.
oooooookkkkk.... a bit scared.
my phone just cut off and now wont cut back on.i reloaded the radio rom and it didn't fix anything. then all of a sudden while i was resyncing the damned thing just cut off... WTF!?!

battery was charged to "full"?
yeah...
it was. the dmned thing has been F___ing wit me since yesterday.i even used my wife's MDA battery to test it and nothing. for the life of me i can't figure it out i tested the board to see if it shorted somewhere and it was good. i don't understand how it just messed up because i changed the housing?!? so what i might do is take it to the cingular store and have them use the more advanced tests and check it on the energy output to see what happened but if that don't work i might just upgrade my wife's contract(something i've been avoiding) and get the 8525(a hermes, i know) and start over.
but if worst comes to worst i have a question...which is better overall in size, function, and ease of modification? is it the hermes, the titan or the wizard?
in response to your pm...
take the device apart again, clean all the boards and the cables ends[use alcohol only in the cables ends, use a make-up brush to clean the boards cranys etc]...put it back together again very carefully....also do not overtigh the screws or undertigh...good luck....
as for your question above the best device to customize now is the hermes....but i would wait for the hermes II

Be careful with the static!! It may easily kill some IC's!!
There's a reason why the Service Manuals show pictures of people handling phones with gloves... (amongst other equipment)

good point..forgot that...
i doubt it cause...
i used a wrist static dispencer, trust i know better than to go without one....the user name actually discribes me
Wat R Tha Odds...
alright folks here's the skinny. my 8125 fried, aparently somehow i had enough static to discharge and kill my IC ( yes you guys were right and i thank you for it) and now i guess one option available to me is to get the board replaced (firstly aquiring some static resistant gloves ) does anyone have an idea on where to go for a new board or a good condition used one and roughly the dent to pocket it would be?
ok, couple of things...
Been doing some HW and have a question... just to make sure is the cingular 8525 hermes or titan, or is it that the hermes IS in fact the titan? if someone could answer that in definate it would greately be appreciated. And secondly seeing i decided to get the 8525 not being able to find a motherboard i am selling my 8125. please see the post "BUY/SELL a broken Wizard! Protect our dying breed" for details.
A hermes is a Tytn and a Titan is a different HTC phone. A little confusing, but they are spelled differently.
alright....class summary
so the Cingular 8525 is a hermes, which is a tytn(am i good so far?) which is totally different from the TITAN. SO i need to start reading and studying the tytn and not the titan. Gotcha....i think?
Lol yep, I think. I have a kaiser that should be on it's way to me any day now and it's a Tytn II, but not a Titan II or even a hermes II.
so i cracked my LCD a couple weeks back..today i recieved a replacment LCD from htclcd.com ...followed the instructions from the site..now i turn on my phone..and everything works perfectly..exept it cant find a signal anymore...seems to recognize the sim card...everything else works fine..just no signal...where could the problem lie? any suggestions? thanks in advance!
I would be very suprised if the lcd has caused this issue, have you tried a manual network selection yet?
It is likely that you have accidently disconnected or damaged antenna or connection to the antenna. I'd try to disassemble, examine visually that all parts are OK and reassemble the phone.
thats that i was thinking..but i dont know where the antenna is located in the phone so i dont even know where to begin to look
Hi stolli,
please let me know if you could repair your phone I have the same breakdown for the same reasons.
thank you
is there a way to replace the keyboard or fix the problem somehow?
It may just be the Keyboard FPC connector is not inserted firmly enough. See pages 21 and 33 of the manual.

did you insert the lugs from the battery side first? the contacts are the gold pieces...if they are intact they should be fine..when you put the tilt backtogether did you put it together firmly, tighting all the bolts? also make sure flight mode isnt on

Yes, I also slightly recovered "lugs" that looks a bit twisted.
Do you with one is used for GSM?

I changed several times mode phone to flight to test the line but still nothing.
I will work in Paris tomorrow, I'll test the gsm signal will be better , but on my other phone with the same Sim all is good.
Thanks.
the reason why the lugs are neceassy is to hold the casing firmly down so the gold connecters touch...make sure that the casing is tightened firmly down..and maybe lift the gold connecters on the main casing a little bit so they stick out more (thats what i did)..make sure not to break them tho..
The problem must come an other part, the lugs are good.
I had great difficulty connect to GSM in Paris yesterday.
I have disassembled it again checked and reassembled but nothing new.
thanks for your help.
Hello
I killed my Kaiser by flashing a Touch Diamond ROM to it.
Sent it to repair service and they say the Mainboard needs to be replaced, but the price for repair is ultragious .
I realy need the device,it was a big help in my confused life style.
Can anyone tell me how can i fix it myself. Or where i can buy a mainboard. Or where can i send the device to repair for a cheaper service?
Thanks in advance for all your help guys.
Some of the keys on my keyboard are dead, any clue? Disassembled several times with no luck...
Doh... looks like the keys are gone.
WOW! It works, when I gave up! Ironic! DD
Ok, so if there happens to be others with the same issue.
Make sure when you connect the golden keyboard connector that the black thin line on it gets positioned exactly where the brown lock ends.
My tilt recently has been acting rather strange, and I'm not sure if its the radio or not. The phone keeps on gaining and losing signal, and cannot figure out why. At first I thought it might be a software problem, but I updated the rom to the newest official release and that did not fix the problem. Does anyone have a suggestion? The problem isn't reception, I've never had this trouble until recently, has always worked fine in this area regardless of weather / other.
not sure if it's the same issue...
I had the problem few weeks back..
my tytn would be having no signal at times..
I nid to go to Comms Panel and off/on the Phone.
after few days, encountered no SIM Card detected error.
hard reset and changing ROMs, including stock ROM didn't help.
now it's being repaired..
hope to get it back soon.
its horrible that you mention that, my warranty literally ran out about 5 days ago . However, based on the fact that I've done just about everything I could on the software end, I think it might be hardware (even though I haven't really even put this phone through any trauma whatsoever). The radio part of the phone....does anyone know which specific part that is? I don't remember seeing an individual radio in the disassembly, so I assume that it is on one of the boards. Does anyone know which one specifically?
mine was subjected to a few drops on the floor hehe..
but it was ok...
it was only recently that I encountered those issues...
if U can try get hold of the tytn II assembly/dis-assembly pictures, U might be able to remove the antenna pcb/board...
I only cleaned the metal connectors at the antenna board area.. no joy..
Hey everyone. I have a problem that I haven't seen here on the forum. I changed the case on my x1 a while back, and since then I have a problem where my screen starts scrambling when it's connecting to Edge, and it won't stop until it connects back to HSDPA. I don't know what I could have done that would make it start doing that. Any ideas???
Which rom and radio version are you using? does it happen in landscape mode? have you tried a hard reset or other roms? can you take a screenshot or photo so we can get an accurate picture of what it is doing? Even tho it sounds like a software issue, would you be willing to open your phone up and check the screen cable and if not is it still under warrentee?
my rom version is 1.05.948.11 and I'm running R3AA011
my radio is 1.14.25.55
It does happen in landscape mode also
I haven't done a hard reset since the problem started but I think I might try, it's just gonna suck...
I haven't been able to take a screenshot of it because it never happens when I want it to which is reaaaaaally annoying...
It's not under warranty so I would open but only as a last resort, even though I've done it like a million times it's still a b****...
I did a hard reset and still have the problem, that rules out software. So I'm assuming it's hardware but exactly what is it that's causing it. And why would it only happen when the network loses 3g coverage. Some type of interference? I need some help please! It's driving me nuts.

i have the same problem too. can any one explain this?
i'm just guessing, maybe it's radio interference. what band is your network? do you loose some shielding when changing case? I believe there's some metal tape that's works as ef shield. maybe hsdpa radio frequency is too high that it doesn't affect internal parts. remember crt tube? ancient tv, radios?

sorry sir but i am not familiar of this things. out of warranty i disassemble it and change the whole case and the tft resistive toucsreen and it looked fresh as new cleaning the keyboard. checking the whole unit i found no problems at first but that occured after changing a custom rom.so i felt sad seeing my unit scrambles screen when connceting to 3g.. first i thought of the Apllication problem because whenever i close opera mini the screen runs fine even using it. but when i try manila and connect to weather it jumbles scrambles again...even changing roms didnt work at all so my suspect is what you are saying. so if you have any ideas on what location is that part that i am going to fix and add tape or somethin can you give some ideas or pictures and where the x1 internal part will be and i am willing to wait on your reply. i also have a link on Questions and answers section i also have on the link the sample picture of what is going on on my unit and background of it. please do have a reply thank you so much and god bless.

waiting for response thank you so much i really love my phone and i always want it to be perfect.
YES!!
i already found out the answer for this thing... the signal located at the bottom of the xperia x1 near the speaker is the main problem.. too much exposure to the signal reception can cause the screen to jumble. and for that conclusion i don't know what to shield to reduce the amount of signal.... any advice???
Hello everyone!
I accidentally broke the GPS antenna of my Galaxy s. Fortunately, the phone is still under warranty
Do you think they would repair or replace it? Or should I keep it as is now?
(I don't know how warranty works, because i never needed to use it.....Until now )
Thank you in advance!!!
How did you manage to break it ?
Not ME, but rather my little sister!
She, to make me a stupid joke, thought well to remove the little sticker next to the speakers
Obviously I did not know this, but it was really hard to get the GPS signal (which is common to all models of galaxy s ),so I performed the usual tests of the application lbs .... But the GPS only received 1 satellite with a signal strenght of 0 Therefore I focused on this problem, until I found out, sifting through various forums, that maybe the antenna was damaged or something like that. So I discovered that my phone was unfairly castrated ...
This is the sad end of a sad story...
But in almost all the respectable stories, there's a happy ending (and I hope so for me).
Unless you have taken a specific "fail proof" waranty from your provider, manufacturer's waranty doesn't cover "user made" damage.
Only thing to try is to "cover it up" and return it and hope they won't see it... :|
What do you mean for "return it" Do you mean perhaps returning it saying that it has a GPS problem?
Certainly they may find out that the antenna is missing.
So I was thinking of "simulating" or "generating" a different problem that can make the phone being replaced (I know...It is a bad idea But...Who knows...)

Removing the antena voids the waranty, not just in part.
But then, I don't work there, give em a call to get the facts!
