WINE
Hello.
The easiest way to sync under linux is synCE.
http://www.synce.org/moin/
and for ubuntu:
http://www.synce.org/moin/SynceWithUbuntu
or try active sync:
Version 3.7.1 should work with WINE (but i haven't found it):
http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=2673
Sweet been looking for this... I'll give it a try later this week

Dear all,
can anyone of you give me a hint how I could access at least the storage card on my Herald WM6. I would't even need to sync, accessing the files would be just fine. Untill now I've played with WiMo (http://sourceforge.net/projects/wimo/), multisync, opensync, synce.
I've not tried bluetooth as I don't have bluetooth on the PC.
What do I miss?. Wht have I overlooked? Do I miss a driver, protocol or module?
Thanks for your help
wm6 was designed with microsoft's vista in mind. So the first problem is that your wm6 device will require the latest activesync version on the computer. Most linux emulators don't work with this version and can't emulate the latest active sync.
The solution is to either wait for new emulators, revert to windows xp instead of linux, or downgrade the wm6 to wm5 wich is more compatible with these emulators.
Search for wm5storage on google.
It allows to export your pocketpc as usb mass storage so you can mount it on any OS.
Have fun.
Yeah, thanks for this.
This is a real recommendation and all that I wanted to have for now. I can mount the storage card with read/write access and I can manage my files.
Thx
Awesome... I'm glad you guys posted this, bc this had come to mind the other day and I was wondering if it was possible.
Is there any way to install linux on Kaiser?
or
Android on HTC Kaiser?
Not yet. Android is running thru a server on top of WM (think XP & boot camp on the Mac) but it will happen. As for linux, you can get opemoko to run, but it will cost you several thousand dollars. (development kit)
I've been playing with linux a bit, but still can't get the kernal to boot, not has anybody else. look into xanadu here on xda main page or wiki. There are many links to check out what progress has been made (not much for the newer devices, although I have it running, albeit slowly, on a blue angel.
;Tnx very much!!
linux on Kaisar
have you seen ubuntu web site - they hav a PDA version
I'm guessing the Ubuntu version you saw was the PPC which is PowerPC (Mac) version. If theres one I missed I'd love to hear about it to play with on my old Axim.
No, it is actual Ubuntu on mobile devices: http://www.ubuntu.com/products/mobile
However, it is for x86 only (for now), and targeted at things like the Samsung q1, rather than PDA phones unfortunately.
I recently switched to a Mac and was wondering if anyone knew the alternative to Microsoft ActiveSync on Mac OS X. I did a brief search and came up with information about Microsoft Entourage [which I do have on my Mac] and was just wondering if anyone has experience with this? If I plug my Tilt right into my Mac, will Entourage pick it up or what?
Thanks in advance, Walt.
For Mac OS X, you need a (non-free) software called Missing Sync.
Or you can use Parallels to run Windows XP and ActiveSync from within Mac OS.

I have an iMac running Leopard and I run Missing Sync. Works great for me. Syncs Address Book, iCal , iPhoto , Tasks, Phone Log, even iTunes (non DRM ) music.
I also have my Tilt sync'd to the Windows XP side of my Mac because the one thing you cannot do through Missing Sync is flash new roms or radios. That can only be done through Windows. But I use Bootcamp , I used to use Parallels but their support for their product is non existent.
I needed help with a setting and emailed them and Nova Development no less than 15 times, never even an acknowledgement. Bootcamp is free runs smoother and has better graphics compatibility.
You will need a Windows machine for updates.
syncmate
syncmate is free and works great for me. Im running leopard on a powerbook.

On my MacBook Pro, Missing Sync.
One note on uploading ROM's. I was able at one time to do it using Parallels but recently one of Dutty's ROMs locked my Tilt in the Tri color screen. It wasn't the ROM, something had change either in a new version of Parallels or OSX. Moving over to an old Toshiba fixed the phone. I've since tested it again and it still fails on Parallels. Just a word to the wise.

Same thing happened with me under parallels. I can still flash radio firmware and splashes using Parallels, but when flashing the entire rom, its like the connection gets interrupted or timed out. I was previously able to do it before so Im positive its either a parallels or OSX issue when it updated.
Dual boot and use WinDoZe to handle the rom flashing, but honestly Missing sync works great for the contacts / address book info / ect.
=D
I tried to reply to your post maybe 3 different times last night through opera on my device but failed...
anyway i'm on the same boat. Have misssing sync but dont use it much.. my main mode of connectivity is on windows running through vmware's fusion... no problems what so ever with flashing roms.. i used to use parallel's but tried out fusion and liked it a lot better! highly recommend it.

I tried quickly to get my Wizard syncing with a VirtualBox VM with no success. Does someone use VirtualBox to connect to a WM device?
Hi,
Thought I'd start a thread to see if anyone has had any luck trying to Sync the Diamond (Windows Mobile 6.1) and Ubuntu (Evolution, Thunderbird or otherwise).
I found this thread,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=391587
which lead to this one
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=30936
but it seems miles out of date (May 2005)
If you have any solutions please let me know.
Cheers,

Hi,
it seems possible to sync WM 6.1 with Linux by synce.
But it is quite a lot to configure:
http://www.synce.org/moin/SynceWithUbuntu
I will be switching to Mandriva because it has integrated WM synchronisation:
http://wiki.mandriva.com/en/2008.1_Synchronization
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZMNpI3RUwo8
Cheers!
I've heard that Mandriva has better sync abilities with WM6.1 as well, but as its open source, I would have thought that whatever Mandriva is doing can be done for Ubuntu.
When you setup Mandriva can you let me know what systems and processes are in place for the sync?
Cheers,
P
Hmm i would also like to see that, ive been trying to sync wm6 in fedora for months!!

i installed mandriva 2009 today and i can assure you it fully syncs with my htc touch running wm6. i really like mandriva but had to uninstall it because my printer was not supported. im more of a ubuntu guy myself and i agree the new version 8.10 should support syncing but i don't think it will.
Kolab Server - Kubuntu (Kontact) - ActiveSync
Hi guys,
I got it working with Kolab-Server (http://www.kolab.org), which is only needed if you need an Exchange-type collaboration server, kontact (http://pim.kde.org) and my Touch.
So basically ActiveSync on TD is communicating with kontact. I used the following tutorial:
http://www.synce.org/moin/SynceWithUbuntu
This one should also work with Evolution, but I haven't tried it myself.
Hope it helps,
regards,
e
Here's a closed thread about the Mandriva sync in Ubuntu with the developer:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=727373
and another summary of the needed changes:

I'd love to see some instructions of how to get this set up in Intrepid. This is the only thing I boot into Windows for.
There's a utility called HTCFlasher (found on these forums). Does that not work with the TD?
EDIT: See here

That's for flashing ROMs, not for syncing PIM data
Strange why I would post that. I synced my TyTN with this site using evolution - http://www.synce.org/moin/SynceInstallation
I am yet to try the TD
someone knows a way to synchronize ubuntu 8.10 and WM 6. With windows is easy to synchronize contacts and installing software but as with Ubuntu gets?
Hello,
Good luck
I've read lot of post to sync WinMobil and my GNU/Linux Debian, and I never reached a stable and valid solution.
@++
As far as I know currently only Mandriva offers WinMo sync in *nix world.
only working on (k)ubuntu 8.04
Hi,
we have 2 working syncs with Kubuntu (Kontact, kdepim) in 8.04. 8.10 is not working currently. I'm also waiting for opensync 0.40, which should hopefully solve some problems.
Regards,
