I'm running out of main memory!!!! - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV General

Hello everyone,
I have only 7 MB left from my main memory and although I installed all programs into my internal storage, the main memory keeps shrinking each time.
what should I do to expand my main memory or what files should I remove?
Thanks

You may store too much data on your main memory. move all your photos, musics to internal storgae

If you do a lot of browsing dont forget to clear the cached files.

emails?
Are you synchronizing email? Because, even if you configure the attachments to be stored in internal memory, the actual body text is still stored in RAM.
Check \Windows\Messaging for data...
If so, you need to fix this in the Registry, check the following thread:

help!
my diamond keeps popping up a warning that my storage memory is low. When i look at memory it shows storage total 92.05 MB in use 90.22 MB free 1.84 MB Program total 203.84 MB in use 84.15 MB free 119.69 MB.
What gives? What is eating up that storage total? I only have a few apps installed (Registry Edit, Dashwire, Advanced Config, google maps, wmwifirouter, app to date, diamond tf3d config and .net 3.5.) This is on a Sprint Diamond.

do you downloud video from youtube player ?
they say that youtube player have somesort of bug that stores all caches (video) on window folder and you cant delete it or find it
someone correct me if im wrong !

um not really only a few timmes have i used youtube.

bro im having EXACT same prom with the same programs loaded...its almost unuseable at ths point wtf i cannot find these memory hogs and ive searched almost entire windows directory too

A great little app. I found is "Memory Monger" (do a search for the thread with a download). It graphically shows what's in your memory (internal or main). I used it to see which were the big files and moved them to internal storage and made shortcuts in their original folders.
Rob

hey thanks! i will try it.

too late? maybe, but here goes. I found the solution to MY problem with low "storage memory". I had to first do a soft reset because I didn't even have enough free to launch Opera (only .02MB free!). Once i soft reset, i could launch Opera and proceed to clear cache, cookies, and history. after that, it freed up 23MB!! I'm back in business now. Hope this helps someone else besides me!

Using a ton of memory

I have the std. AT&T ROM. Can someone who hasn't installed any (or just very few) programs tell me the size of your windows directory?
After installing just a few basics (Opera, TomTom, Iguidance, Resco, MAME, VoiceCommand) my windows directory is listing at 133 MB and my total storage memory is at 90%. I have also done a bunch of clean up and deleting temp files, cabs, removing a few progs, etc.
Is there really that much crap on the AT&T ROM? Any way around this other than an entirely new ROM?
Bump.
No storage space left at all. Something is really going wrong here and I just can not find it.
Have you tried removing the history in pie?
This is what fixed it for me.
Did you install iGuidance with maps in your standard memory ?
Navigation software is known fot its size.
Thanks
Thanks guys. I have removed temp. internet files which helps a tiny bit (through file explorer and in program options). Those directories can get big quite quickly! Also I do have iGuidance but all maps are on my nice big 6 GB storage card. Man this is killing me, Storage Memory at 94% (118 MB) and Windows directory at 131 MB. Ugh.
Update: Seems fixed. I did a hard reset, soft reset to prevent AT&T bloatware installation then a complete personal data restore and fresh program installs. Memory when "virgin" after bloatware prevention gave about 10MB of storage used and 23MB of program space in use (with no programs actually open). Now even with quite a few more programs installed I am only up to 93MB of storage space used.

Phone storage gets lost

Hi there!
I'm having a problem with the phone storage, not the internal 4gb storage...
The phone storage is at 0.20 mb (free!), but i don't really know why! On Saturday there were about 20 mb of free storage, but now they are gone ... I didn't install any programms, just looked a few videos with the youtube player and played around with some pictures that where sent as an email attachement (2 mb per picture) and suddenly the phone tells me "memory is low". i tried the sktools "clean" tool, but i'm not quite sure what i can delete without killing my pim data and so on. Is there anyway to figure out which application keeps all the information stored that killed my storage?!
I looked through the phone folders in the explorer on my pc, but i can't say
where the lost storage is located
any ideas on this !?
Thanks in advance
André
Maybe browser cache-data is filling it up? checked temp folders? 0,20MB sounds weird tho. What ROM are you using?
i searched all the tempfolders (hopefully i found them all ) but there aren't any large tempfiles or so ...
is there any specific folder you want me to have a closer look at?
i'm using the original o2 rom (1.37.207.2 GER)
Make a hard reboot and choose the 2nd option in the hard reboot menu
i'll give it a try the next few days and keep you informed
thnx!
before hard reset use sktools and do a complete clean
Why don't you see in your system settings menu, click memorry.
There you find a 'link' which gives you the option to search for big size files that fill up your memory.
too bad it doens't find many small files

need to free up some main memory space

during the past few days, the diamond has been telling me that space in the main memory is going low. i go and see that there is only about 1.6 mb left. i usually install programs in the 4gb memory so i don't think those are programs. does opera leave cookies and other browser data in the main memory? what else should i delete to free up space?

Opera eats LOADS of storage memory, as does Google Maps and lots of other stuff. There are a number of free apps available to clean up your device, but I find the best way is to just soft-reset. All the TEMP stuff is cleared away, and the device is free to run again!
Search the 'Themes, Applications and Software' forum for 'Clear Temp', or 'Clear RAM'... something like that!?
Free Memory on HTC Diamond
I had the same problem and it was my Outlook Mail. I synch with the office and had thousands of emails in my In and Outboxes. Delete from your outlook account on your PC/Laptopn and then resynch. You may need to delete from your device as there may not be enough room left to perform a synch.
Hope that helps
the first thing i did was a soft reset via the red button on the back but the remaining memory stayed the same. also i don't have al ot of email in my inbox. they are usually all deleted
i've been having this problem too, and now my touchflo won't even start up, and the phone has become really really slow. it takes ten minutes to just load a text to read. and right now i can't call anyone and they can't call me....if i do a soft reset, will my contacts be lost?
soft reset is a simple reset, your contacts won't be deleye, but if you do a hard reset, you loose all contacts, setting...
ok thanks, i'll try a soft reset and see what happens. i havent found an answer to my problems using the google search for this site though....
i can't even connect with active sync
Here are some tips:
1. Opera. Press the button at the bottom right and go into "Settings". Then "Privacy", then "Delete Cache". Sometimes the clear temp programs don't find the memory that Opera stores unless you have set them up correctly.
2. Use file explorer to see if you can go into the My Device/My Documents/My Pictures and see if there are any pictures you don't mind deleting. Also, while you are there also check My Music, and My Videos folders. Delete anything you don't want or relocate them into Internal Storage.
3. You can check to see if your Outlook (e-mails, contacts, calendar etc) has too much data. Check this on My Device using File Explorer. You can see a file called pim.vol. I have 2000 calendar appointments, 400 contacts and no e-mails/sms' and mine is 5.25MB in size. I think this is about right. If you have a silly amount of memory in this, then you do have something in Outlook you could delete....
4. Use a program like MemMaid, SKTools or Clear Temp to clean up bad links, registry etc.
5. Google Maps may take up 2MB or so. I think it is limited to around this amount.
6. Use Pocket Mechanic or similar to relocate installed programs to Internal Storage. Note though that some programs still will keep some files on the device memory so you cannot free up all of the memory.
7. Use MemMaid to check to see where all your storage has gone. This has a very good application to show you exactly where it is and also linked to the file explorer so it is easy to go to the offending file and delete it.
8. It is better to back up your phone first just incase you delete anything you shouldn't have.....
9. Flash a new ROM. I use Cloudy's 1.1 one. It is great. He has made two and they both leave you with a lot of free memory. I have many installed programs (mostly on Internal Storage) and I still have over 50MB of free ROM and RAM....
10. Use Diamond Tweak to disable the HTC dialer and use the Windows Dialer instead. I think this will save you about 2MB or RAM. It may not look quite as nice, but you can tart it up a bit with a new dialer skin....
Good luck

Main Memory Low

I save all my programs and install them on the internal drive. I am still getting a low memory warning. Are there any specific places I need to look , i.e Windows folder, etc.., where I can remove useless files? I'm afraid to delete some important things.
I have an Alltel Touch Diamond. Thanks in advance.
Low memory warning is not about the storage where you save your stuff & apps. Its the RAM of the diamond. To solve the issue you'll probably have to install another ROM with lower mem usage or close TF3D before running your heavy apps.
HI THERE
the program pocket mechanic solve me a lot of that issue .
after installing the prog. i removed some what of files to the intenal storage .
it did work for me just great /
windows folder/directory
open windows directory. goto Opera folder. goto images folder. any files that aren't jpg or png (meaning files that will have an opera logo in front of them) are deletable. If you use opera a lot and have never done this, there may be many. Also Windows/Messaging. this stores info from all emails, even when you delete, info is left here- delete all old stuff. If you feel iffy about trying any of this, create a folder in your internal storage to cut these files into, and if you have any trouble or do something wrong, you can cut/copy them right bsck (but these sre things i do to keep memory clear). Also, ClearTemp is an AWESOME HELPFUL program (and free). I think v1.21 is the latest, but after 3rd day of using it, it had recovered about 10mb of storage memory. (set it up properly, din't just hit 'clean'). good luck.
Lastly, some early diamonds (roms) had a known issue with unrecoverable storage memory, so last case scenario, update to newest official rom.

au contraire. memory on diamond is partitioned 3ways (storage memory, program memory, internal storage)
when you get a 'main memory low' msg, it's usually because your storage memory (not RAM), and not program memory, has dropped to <1mb. not your operating memory or program memory.

I dealt with this on my first diamond. Had to return it - it is an issue on early diamonds, known by htc (storage not erasing things it should, regardless of user settings). A search will turn up a handful of other threds on this topic.
Thanks for all the replies.. here are screens of what I'm talking about.
As you can see I have a ton of storage on the Internal but 1Mb left on Device... If you still agree that I should follow the advice above I will do that. Just wanted to clarify what I was talking about.
thank you scottspa74
I have exactly the same problem with storage memory and what scottspa74 proposed just gave me the solution to my problem .
Thank you very much
Well, I also found that if you have taken a lot of pictures and video with the phone it takes up a ton of device storage. Try deleting big video files or transferring them somewhere else.

try backing up your contacts and flash another rom
it took me a while to get down to the cause of ths nd i found it by pure coincidence. i use cleanram as well. look for two cache folders. 1 for htc album in application data/htc/htc album nd the other is opera mobile which should b in windows/opera/profile. delete their contents nd u should b better. i assigned both folder as custom folders in cleanram. also note tht even if u install stuff on mem card some small files still go to ur main mem but thy shouldnt make that of a diff.
cheers
I suggest using an app like sktools that will allow you to move some of your apps and folders from device memory to internal storage. You could also uninstall some apps and re-install those apps to internal storage.
Dont know if this helps, but inshure to delete your internet files from IE -- while on tha browser click, menu / tools / options / memory / delete files.. on my htc touch it would empty tons of MBs, Near 100MBs at times after afew days of use...
my diamond does not hold anything it apears? i have never seen anything in my history.. I totally feel ripped off with 90MBs And like 30 free out of tha Box! Not one spec listed online shows this...
4real where is tha 192 MB RAM / 256 MB ROM ???
My 6800 & touch blow this out tha water..!
Big big let down "i bought two allso" lol
Paid $149 each Brand New from bell canada No term contract
so its all good, but still
I found cab files for Sprint TV & GPS. Then I deleted them from main memory and reinstalled them into internal memory.
