I used thaihugo ROM as base for this. Thanks to thaihugo for providing this.
I added GoogleMaps, YouTubePlay, VicSoft Clear Temp, Adobe Reader LE for Diamond. Replaced current USBTool with modaco ShiftPack.Liberate. This fixes the Registry setting needed to install cabs. The only registry setting you need to do is changing HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\HARDWARE\DEVICEMAP\KEYBD\CurLang value to your keyboard. You can find those values in plirom 2.00 thread.
I have also placed links to USBTool under Programs\Comm (thaihugo ROM has here) and also under SnapVue Settings (ShiftPack.Liberate does this). Here in SnapVue Settings you will see a link to SoftReset too. This is exactly what Shift.Liberate does currently whenever you liberate using modaco's procedure.
Memory:
Free Storage: 28.58 MB
Free Program: 21.21 MB
Here is the link to download RUU_Signed.nbh
Use CustomRUU.exe that is available in thaihugo and plirom threads.
The next upgrades to this ROM are HTC Voice Recorder, once I figure out how to enable the microphone, .NET 3.5, Screen Capture, and HTC official YouTube Player replacing YouTubePlay. I am also planing to remove original calculator with 1-Calc.
Disclaimer: This is a cooked ROM and is supported by neither Microsoft nor HTC. Neither I nor the ones from who I learned how to cook should be held responsible for any malfunctions or irreversible damage that may cause by flashing this ROM to the device. Use at your own risk. Bottom line, I take no responsibility for the damages that may happen to your device by flashing this ROM.

Hi Ram,
The GoogleMaps version is not the update one in your Rom. Could you put the update one (ver. 2.2.0.19) in your next upgrades?
Thanks.

Hi Martiare
There are two ways
1. you could use external bluetooth receiver that your vista side could use to connect using BlueTooth or USB, easiest and fastest way of doing it.
2. If you wish to use internal GPS of Shift then, you need to install either thaihugo's ROM, pliROM or RamROM, which can be downloaded from this forum (search is your friend). Once you install them, you have multiple options, but the one I use is using Franson's GPSGate Client for Vista and WinMo. I bought this for $49 and I feel good investment. Install GPSGatePPC on WinMo side, and GPSGate on Vista side. Configure GPSGatePPC to work on ActiveSync. Configure GPSGate to receive signals from ActiveSync. And install Maps software such as AutoRoute or Micosoft Streets, Earthmate etc. on Vista side and thats all.
Thanks

First of all let me thank you and all other "cookers" for your continuous effort. I've been following the birth and the growth of quite a high number of ROM's, and I still can't understand if it's a good or a bad thing... I mean: surely everyone that flashes a newly cooked ROM acts as a beta-tester for the "chef" and for all other users that don't dare or simply can't flash a new ROM each week. Moreover each new ROM, even if adds some (in)compatibility problem, solves many others (just think about the possibility to use GPS). And this is the good part of the situation.
On the other hand I feel a bit confused. Each new ROM has many good things, but lacks in others, IMO. I know it's a matter of personal taste, but for instance I would really like that PliROM's home could be the standard for each other ROM. And that's just one of the things that I (and each one of us) could point up.
May I suggest to write down a list of the components and let a survey start? If 90 people over 100 should prefer PliROM's interface instead of original Shift one (again: it's just an example), why to continue developping ROMs with other interfaces?
I say this because I'm absolutely unable to cook anything, and I think that many of us can't.
Of course I'll go on flashing new (stable) ROMs, trying to beta-test , at least for a few weeks... than I'll have to go back to work and I wouldn't run the risk anymore to loose data or hardreset
Pure Snapvue
Hi Sai ;
Even though the user interface is really limited , i -personally- prefer using snapvue ...
So ... is there a way for you to
-either let me know how to disable the top bar with the start menu on your liberated rom
or
-cook a rom only cab-install and gps enabled , so that i can go on my own way...
My very best regards
Safak

Hi Ram,
Thanks a lot! If you can cook the 2nd CHT version with the updated GoogleMaps will be perfect! One more request, can you use pli6128's plirom v2.00 WWE 1.22.405.0 96dpi to cook the CHT 2nd version? Because I tried and feel it's user friendly and the key buttons for both contacts and programscan be address. Also, I found it stable too.
Thanks.

Hi
Sure I will use pliROM as base for the new version, or may be I will have an option that would install HTC Home like pliROM does or SnapVue like thaihugo does. I think I would go with this optional one.
Thanks

For free GPS Tracking in Google Earth, and Google Maps mobile, checkout http://www.reperion.com and choose basic, free download.
You don't need to boot vista to see your realtime tracks, all you have to do is import your Reperion KML network link to Google Mobile Maps !
It will give you much much more than just tracking... check it out
http://www.reperion.com/newclient for the software
http://geocool.reperion.com/web to JOIN for an account.
Thanks Ram and cookers!
Installed and working. Just one query about the GPS side though.....
I'm using a UK version of the shift for starters that is only a few months old. I've fllashed the Rom as above and also installed the GPSGate software on both sides. That all seems to be working fine and the WinMob side has found the GPS Module on COM4 and is receiving data but no location. After having read the other threads I appreciate you have to stand in the middle of a field for i to pick up the satellites. Unfortunately I have tried this and it still isnt picking them up. Is it possible that HTC has now stopped installing the GPS Antennas in recent Shifts (no, I haven't opened it up to look)?
Any other ideas?

Honestly I don't know if they might have removed it. But to be sure, look if you have any data comming in. Do you have any sattelites inview when using HTC GPS util? Look at the sattelite tab.

in HCTC GPS Tool (Settings tab) press Open Button, in the lower part you will see some scrolled text, when you run GPS software for the first time you have to wait for 15-30 minute to recieve the signals, then go to Satellite tab the no. of satellite used must be 3 or more to get your location, thise what I did, hope it is the correct way.

I agree with you completely. I don't think they would have removed it. It may be some issues with the position or something related to GPSGate configuration. I also come into issues where it would take good 15 to 20 minuts to lock my Shift for the first time especially with overcast skies, evenings and inside the building. I may be wrong too, HTC might have removed the GPS altogether in the newer systems, but that would be a drastic step for HTC. If they do so, I would suggest buying RAON Everun and tether it with a Kaiser or Hermes would be cheaper. You would have a GPS receiver on your WinMo, and have bluetooth, SD, Wifi handy and you could connect your Everun to that and it fits in the pocket, eventhough the screen is nearly 5" as opposed to 7". But that is cheaper alternative and runs on more manageable XP. And installing GPSGate on WinMo and XP gives me to have the GPS on bigger screen.
Thanks
Ram
Got the GPS Tool running again. It's hovering on Sat 32 and 14 with the odd scan of no. 1 on its own. Going to leave it on the windowledge overnight as the field isn't really an option!
I'm used to using a Garmin Zumo on the motorbike that takes seconds to find the sats and TomTom on my Hermes in the car and also it's own in-built Toyota Effort. None takes this long to find satellites.
But it is fun, isn't it!!!

Yep, it is kind of slow, once you get the location fixed, and it uses 2 satellites, the things move pretty fast. I have quite a good number of GPS devices, and all of them are pretty fast when compared to this.
Thanks
Ram
So the GPS Tool locked up the WinMob side , it mustn't have liked being left on all night! Pulled the battery and reset. Hey Presto the sky is full of satellites tonight and all is working fine!!!! It takes ages to take its initial reading of where everything is, has a real good think about it and then decides to work.
Now looking forward to any future incarnations.
Many thanks to all

One of the first cooked ROM's for 750!! This is a good thing for all.
Downloading now.
No Office Mobile
Currious thing happened when I flashed, (SD Method), I have seem to have lost Office. Can't find it anywhere. Any guesses?
Searched again and under the windows folder, there are some blank office files like OneNoteMobile, pword, and pxl. All these I can use, so it seems that the icons for word are missing in the programs folder, but the program itself IS installed. I wonder if the SD flashing method has something to do with it. Will reflash and see.
I too have lost Office programs. I also cant find a battery indicator without going to the power function.
Other than that, this ROM is fast! I will let you know about the stability in a couple of days. But its working great. Thanks
for some reason I have the gay volume icon on my top bar and it keeps on showing my volume as all the way down and I can't hear when people call me

I'm sorry

well I don't care about the battery icon being gone because I use pocket plus 4, but is there anyway you can get rid of the volume icon on top because everytime I touc it, it will mute my phone.

I think that Palm hasn't copmplete optimizing OEM package for WM6 yet, because of the OEM packages version 5.1.xx.xx.
It is difficult that all the Palm's features are suited to new AKUs.
To delete Palm's PhoneLookUp, your IM program may work.

First of all thx chaimd for your effort and time:
I had some sparetime tonight to flash and test your customrom.
I only flashed your OS and left the orginal (latest) ROW radio, at first all seems okay but I then when driving around I noticed that my navigation software (TomTom 6) was acting weird. Mainly strange (not complete) screen updates, loss of connection to BT GPS and missing parts on the screen. As this is a crucial function on my treo, I did no further testing and flashed back the ROW OS. After this TomTom 6 is functioning normal again.
Guess I will wait a while, till these little speedbumps are history.
Again, thx for your time
Kind regards
marl
I was wondering if you could take a look at an issue for me...
I use a car kit via Bluetooth (Parrot CK3100), and the phonebook doesn't automatically sync from the phone to the car kit correctly. Instead of syncing the phone book, it only syncs contacts from the Speed Dial plugin. Even if I have Speed Dial turned off from the Today Items.
It's obvious that the phone has a working Sim Access Profile (rSAP), since it uploads the carrier name, battery level, and signal level to the kit; it's just pulling phone book entries from the wrong location.
I have no idea even where to point you to, since I have no idea how the inner workings of Windows Mobile mesh together...
Here's to hoping you can come up with something, it would be totally awesome!
Ok, as promished, here is the new rom. I just post the link in a text file, cause I want to see the counter running
It's a standard snapvue, liberated, with the following ehancement:
Screen rotation in settings
GPS in snapvue side
Full iexplorer, notes, images, messenger, windows live.
HTC X-button 1.5
HTCGPStool
DotFred's TaskManager
USBtools for connecting to vista
A few htc blocages removed
I've tested the sound. the gps fix, and vista connectivity. Be sure to use high performace power mode for best results. It's still beta until everyone confirm it works ok. DOn't flash it if you are afraid of dark.
My radio is 1.58.21.23, so it should work on all european shift. North americans have already the gps included anyway.
To install, run customRUU AS ADMINISTRATOR on a HardSPL shift
FAQ:
- Flash is not working, it stops at 0%
You dummy boy forgot to hardSPL your shift. Look in the forum for HardSPL by cmonex
-Flash is working, goes until the end, but I get an old rom
Try launching customruu from a new folder with a new name. It's a bug under vista
- GPS does not get a fix
Sorry. Get outside, in the middle of a field, and wait. You will get a fix.
- I want GPS under vista too
It's a software problem. I'm using franson gpsgate on both side, using an activesync solution. There are other way.
- What took you so long to release this
Well, I'm like you, I waited for a rom, and since nothing came, I've started doing it myself. It took me one week.
- It mean you are against shift project
No, Thanks to their help, I can flash roms on my device. I'm actually in regular contact with cmonex. We both think more rom is best for everybody. Shift project will release quality rom on it's agenda.
- What will you do next
I'll go for screen problems I want games to work on this. After,I'll try and see the SD card, the phone, the BT and the wifi
-Wait, SD card is higher priority to me
Well, I just start where I think it can be easier to sort thinks out.
- Why don't you release a cab for the GPS like you did
Because one of the driver responsbile for linking with the sound is loaded at boot time. Try changing this on you own, and you'll have to hard reset. Only way to change it is a custom rom
- I have function X that doesn't work
Does it work after a hard reset? If not, please post how to redo it on my device
- My girlfriend left me since I flashed this rom
You forgot to HardSPL her. It's your fault
- I want program X added to the rom
Maybe if I see it as a great improvment, othewise, you should learn to cook rom yourself

Some stuff still has to be liberated the old way. Feel free to advise your registry edits for the next version
Thanks, but it worked a few mins later. I'm just too impatient.
Finally a reason to install HardSPL on the Shift, I was too lazy to liberate it again so held off until now.
What about non-English keyboard layouts? Are they supported in this new ROM?
If so, I'll download tomorrow in the office, at home it's only GSM...
Thank you all for making a little great machine even better!
I can try and make non english layout, but I need different languages to do this. I'm going to try with german, but I'll need other languages files too.
Thanks !!!!!, perfect, brilliant, fantastic!, GPS and full sound .... now only the issue of lack Snapvue to 96dpi or 128dpi, it appears that the CommManager cut, broken, je, je, je, je ... very good job, just missed the soft reset button, but it will be for the next one. Thanks !!!!.
soft reset is in task manager menu. But you can make a shortcut to it. I'll add it in next version.
forgot to add cab support. You can edit registry for this. This will be added in next version

That caught me out for a minute too. For those who are stuck, use the registry editor in the Task Manager, and navigate to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Cabfile\Shell\Open\command and change the default value to wceload.exe "%1" /nodelete - there is a space after the .exe and before the /nodelete here.
Thaihugo - it's looking good so far, just tweaking it up now. GPS works perfectly.
TERRIFIC!!!!
Thanks
Gracias, gracias
Dear ThaiHugo, thank you for your development time given to the shift community.
Its nice to see some movement on the forums.
I have a north american shift, as stated above it includes the gps, but should i try and use this rom?.
Last but not least, aside from being liberated and IE,WMP,Notes ect installed in it, is there any difference from the usa rom version?.
---Any input would be gladly appreciated. thanks in advance.....

96dpi and 128dp are possible. I am using Realvga...works terrific.
you can grab it off my server
RealVGA_11.CAB
ResPack128dpi.ARM.CAB
96dpi is a little too small, trust me...youre going blind.
@Thaihugo... Gute Arbeit..weiter so (Deutsche Gruendlichkeit)
If you need a server to host your roms, let me know. My server is fast and permanent
great job, keep going guys, this is the only way to go further in shift converting it from an expensive paperwight to a real good phone

As I'm very very very very (etc.) interested in Italian keyboard layout, could you please tell me which file do you need in order to build an "italian-like"-cooked-ROM?
Thanks
Hi,
As promished, the french version of my rom. Cab install is working, and opera is removed on popular demand. Got usbtools, and taskmanager, even if the icon is not here now. Exe is in windows folder.
This one also has d3d software dll linked.

yes
again a big thanks to you
sorry for havent seen it before
thanks
too early? but thxs !
great!! thank you very much for the time and work you spend for the shift communoty!
i m very happy to flash this rom cause french is my native linguage, and it gives to me more compatiblity with french software.
maybe its to early to cook french rom, because htc shift is not easy to finf in french shops... orange is selling it with origami data plans, but its not very popular , finally the best way to get it is to make special order, or to by it from internet .
you should focus your time on english rom, and maybe spanish as its seconf or third language used in the world
Anyway thank you very much fr this rom !!!
by the way i love opera but there are so many release and a few are working well on the htc shift
c u,
The one I have included in rom works pretty well. I might release it also infrench (my native language too )
any progress on phone feature?

I compared the registry files of both Tilt and Shift (I don't have Diamond or Ralpheal) and found some interesting differences in the case of BT, WiFi and SD card. I am going to publish those here in a few hours.
I have not seen much differences in the phone area (registry settings) except missing settings for phone and relevant skin settings under Machine and Current User.
thanks

Problem is not to find registry settings. These are pretty easy to add. This registry can be usefull anyway, but the main problem is that the bios is locking the SD and BT for vista, and even with the right drivers, they will not be activated on WM side. One think that would improve the dev here is to find how this mecanic works.
As for the phone, using a full phone dll and registry doesn't help, as it seems the dll provided with the shift are voice disabled, and using new depend on the radio.

Regarding BT, WiFi and SD that is what I guessed. Since they are shared, only one of them would work at a given time with the given architecture. Regarding phone, my guess also coincides with you. I think we need to have a different radio, but I may be wrong too.
Thanks

RIL proxy, driver and client support Phone Calls

Finger's crossed, the RIL client (celltsp.dll) is same as the one you will find in Kaiser. The RIL proxy, RIL Client etc. are same you will find in Kaiser, only question left for now is whether the Radio i.e. underlying supports voice calls or not.
Thanks

Nice rom thks.
But so bad that the keyboard become an qwerty.
With registry it's fine but you may include it in your update...
BTW, very nice rom. No problem.
Hello
I don't like to act like a noob (especially in the HTC world in which I had a lot of phones without any real problems...), but here I can't make it...
I put the ROM, perfect. But here the things I can't understand :
- can't open the sound from the today view
- usbtool (I really had hard time to find the soft!!!), I can't do nothing with it, there is a sentence "Please plug in cable firest" and I tried "USB_cable_in" but nothing happened... So I can't connect to Vista... Where am I wrong?
I think I can manage the others things, like buttons, qwerty, ... but for the usbtool thing I am really lost... so I use "Internet share" when it is working...
Ok, I see a lot of customisation done here, so I think it's time to make a rom based on user requests. Of course, please don't ask for headset, BT, SD, wifi, this will of course be added when found.
Just post what kind of rom you would like, and we will try to find a list of good programs to include.
Criteria are: small programs, specially usefull, and (possibly) free to use in a rom.
Adding as much as possible in a rom is counter productive, as it grabs more storage space than installing the cab afterward.
My guess is that programs should be in the following categories:
GPS aid tools
Phone aid tools
Today plugin tools
Memory and system managment tools
Core functionality
Default settings
The following post will compile what has been selected. Rom will be created when enough input is aquired. Requests can be done for removal also (like games for example)
now fire your requests
----Reserved--------
To me it is sufficient that there was an application that gives me the opportunity to do everything with your fingers. Without using the scrollbar. As in Mr gullum ROM. Thanks for this opportunity to express your wishes.

ClearTemp v1.2 (http://www.freewareppc.com/utilities/cleartemp.shtml)
would like....
i would like one that has only the phone, text messages, touchflo (if possible) and GPS, for everything else we have the Vista side like office, messenger and any other app we could possibly want.
botton line the less you put in it the faster it will be and still leave room to install any other app an specific user may want.
just my 2 cents.
BTW great work we are all very thankfull for all your hard work and that goes to cmonex and the rest of your team.
thanks
Call firewall and what you have listed chat of some type (I use yahoo)
i would love to have a ROM based on MANILA or POINT UI or throttle launcher.
i know that there is not much space. but it can be done ( for some resone it works slow..)
please, im willing to donate ( again!!) to the one that will creat that kind of ROM. ( no need for SnupVue...or Office..
10x!
Your current rom is almost perfect. Everybody can install the programs they want. Only I would like have speaker phone forced on like iOO did in his rom and those three themes can be replaced with just one black snapvue theme. And also it should be possible to soft reset from wm side so you dont have to start vista to do that.
Less is more
Actually I would like to see more stripped out all non-essential files/ anything to make more room for programs and data!
I see you put the HTC tools in there, but with the exception of USBTool,RealVGA and cab install support - I wonder how many times I will fire up GPS Debugging...
There maybe some housecleaning opportunities in the Windows Directory (temp files and other such....)
A good screen rotation utility would be nice - I use Mobipocket for WM for reading ebooks and it also has the nice side effect of rotating the WinMo display (if you rotate the display within MobiPocket it keeps the WinMo display rotated after you exit the reader) *** side note to ask MobiPocket to enable rotation in the desktop version of their tool (funny that they didn't think to put it in there - if enough people harangue them from this forum maybe?) - which I also have running on the Vista side and it sets my teeth on edge to know that i can't rotate the display...grrr.... ****
So I am ok on the screen rotation - but maybe others dont want to install Mobipocket........
Anything that would help battery life -- power miser settings set as default in most things that you might otherwise have to configure --
Lean and mean........
thanks for the current state - which rocks!
Shame on HTC for crippling such a neat device.
regards
Sudipta
I'm registering all requests and also lean on to a clean rom.
lean for me too
first, thanks to all the ROM cooks. i have tried almost all of them and am now using thaihugo's latest. i haven't had this much fun configuring and reconfiguring a machine since installing Slackware 1.1 in 1994.
what a sad loser, i am. well, insomniac anyway.
i'd like a really lean ROM because i like to install my own selection of stuff: pocketxpdf, tcpmp. quickmenu, putty. i don't even need Activesync or the built in e-mail client and calendar. for me, it would be great if anything that i could easily install myself was left out.
Is it possible to include 800X480 resolution driver to fully utilize the screen. Thank you very much!
I've followed your requests here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=495143
wow, fast.. Maybe a easy way, to customize your ROM with standard European language packs.
(french, italia, german, spain,..
I Would prefer a ROM BASE on WinMo 6.1 as UDK's rom was cause it worked fine with haret.
I Woud like a complete Rom With:
- GPS Fix
- QuickGPS
- Phonestuff enabled
- Google Maps (if you have it working with GPS)
- Opera
- TouchFlo (if possible =)
Apps: (prefered as cabs to install them when needed)
- IM Slick
- Mobile Office
- Total Commander
- Finger Keyboard (If it will will work)
- GoogleMaps
- Adobe Reader
I liked your roms but they wont work with haret.
So hopefully will work in future !

SnapVue Cab
What I really want (and have no clue how to do) is the SnapVue as a today plugin cab.
Love your Light ROM (it is my current one). However, I love SnapVue as a concept also. Some things to think about/fix (?):
-The clock allows you to open it to the alarms and Time Zones (I am using a plug in similar to the SnapVue Clock/Calender)
-The "Settings" button is remapped to programs OR opens a shortcut tab for key programs (customisable)
-The Plugin does not "steal" all the real estate. Currently it covers the scroll bar so you can not add other plugin above or below it. This is very irritating (particularly for me who has several plugins).
Currently, I can only get SnapVue (with other ROMS) to work with other plug-ins if I use RealVGA. However, using RealVGA then stops my spb Travel Assistant working (don't understand why).
Food for thought
Cheers
even lighter if possible!
I am using Age of Reason, and it is fantastic - I now even have space to store a bit of my own audio and video. I have also just installed the new YouTube WM application from m.youtube.com which works but has very jerky motion.
I am using TCPMP, so have no use for WMP. I also do not use ActiveSync, so if that was optional, it would save me some space (as well as having to kill it from time to time).
I still think that any item that is available in a simple CAB install might as well be left out, unless it takes up less space by burning it into the ROM.
Thanks again for all your efforts.

Actually, removing this component will make you lose memory, so it's better to keep them. Don't ask me why, but it is this way. WMP and activesync are system components...
Need i say more? Thanks for this great ROM! Age of reason is on my shift and it works great!

I know when I started looking into all this it just seemed like such a daunting task. There was so much information I just didn't know where to start. I looked and looked for a guide that would explain it all to me in one go but just couldn't find one. I had to read around for days trying to get all the information and tools needed to do it, then I had to experiment with lots of failures and swearing before I got the technique right.
It was only when a friend asked if I'd help him flash his M700 that I started to write a pretty detailed email for him. I then decided I'd post it here for you guys who are struggling because I know a few days ago I would have killed for something like this.
Right, we're gonna do the following:
1. Unlock the phone so you can use any SIM and any ROM even though it's locked to orange.
2. Upgrade the HARD SPL to OliPro 1.20
3. Upgrade the Radio version to 1.56.70.11
4. Upgrade the ROM to WinMo 6.5
5. Install a couple of little extras
First off make sure you have the latest ActiveSync 4.5 installed.
1. OK, first lets unlock it:
Go to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=293957 and download HTC_Trinity_SIM_CID_Unlock_v1.zip
You just have to plug the phone in so it connects and run the Auto_unlock_v1.bat and follow the prompts.
It'll put your phone into bootloader (the tri colour screen) then flash it with a new radio. It's a really early version of the radio (1.16...) but it doesn't matter cos we'll upgrade that later.
It'll turn itself off when it's done so you need to turn it back on but leave it plugged in.
Keep following the prompts and eventually, it'll ask you on the phone screen if you want to unlock it. Say yes to both.
There we go, now you have an unlocked phone. But the old radio has probably made it so your satnav won't work.
2. Next let's get a new Hard SLP on there so you can flash other ROMs and Radios. This is the bit that took me ages cos finding the right one isn't too easy. I tried a couple but they wouldn't flash the radio then I heard about Olipro 1.20. I could only get hold of the latest version Olipro 1.30 and it took a while to track down an earlier copy. The latest 1.30 version doesn't work when flashing the 1.56 Radio so you need to have the 1.20 version.
Download the Olipro Hard SPL 1.2 from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=380093&page=20 post #196
This is basically just another bit of software that will replace the SPL on your phone so you can flash Radio's and ROMs at your leisure.
Again, make sure the phone is plugged in and connected and run the ROMUpdateUtility.exe. It'll stick your phone in bootloader and do a little update that won't take long at all.
3. Now we're ready to flash the Radio. This is basically the drivers and settings of the phone that are there regardless of the actual version of windows you have. So once you flashed this radio (which is the most up to date) you can stick any version of windows mobile on the top and this will still be here at version 1.56.
Download the 1.56.70.11 Radio from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=380093&page=5 post #44
Don't worry that it's all in Chinese. It still does the business on the phone and it's all still in english afterwards. You just have to remember which buttons you clicked on and which boxes you ticked from when you used the ROMUpdateUtility before.
WARNING! This will hard reset your phone right back to factory defaults after it's done, You need to ensure you've backed up all your numbers and files etc. You have been warned.
Connect your phone again and run the ROMUpdateUtility.exe from the 1.56 radio folder.
This will take a little bit longer, it took about 5 mins to do the update on mine.
Once it's complete you will need to turn your phone on again. It will first of all display the version of ROM then for a brief moment it will flash the Radio version on the screen, if it says 1.56.70.11 then you've got it right, if not then you'll have to try another HARDSPL tool. Don't worry if you miss it cos you can always check it on the 'Settings | System | Device Information' tab.
4. Ok now this is the bit where the choice is entirly up to you and you really do have to do what everyone says and experiment. There is no 'One ROM to rule them all...' Everyone wants different things from their operating system and you just have to play around until you get one you like. Some people want all the fancy bells and whistles of Manila2D (Touchflo) from 6.1 or the fancy honey cone start menu that comes with 6.5. I personally wanted a fast and stable operating system with has lots of free RAM and not too much rubbish that will slow the phone down. Remember our beloved Trinity's are getting a bit long in the tooth these days and even the most modern handsets (eg Touch HD) have trouble with WinMo 6.5 in some of it's forms. If you just want to get it upgraded then try this one out to start with, then when you realise how easy it is you can flash away til your hearts content.
Download Tomme45i's brilliant 6.5 ROM from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=545758 You'll struggle to find a faster ROM out there. This is the 27017v2 which is one of the latest releases of WinMo6.5 out htere.
Connect the phone and run the ROMUpdateUtility.exe from the folder. Follow the prompts as usual and after about 5 mins it should have finished.
Turn your phone back on and hey presto! you're up and running with WinMo6.5.
All you have to do is re-sync you phone and all your numbers are back then you're away.
See that wasn't too bad was it. All it took was a few days researching on the XDA forums and endless head scratching when things didn't work. I think most of that time was just because I was unsure exactly what to do and in what order. if I'd just had a guide like this to at least get me through once I'd have found it a lot easier. You should still go away and do the research into any software or ROM/Radio you want to use because the threads contain a lot of useful information.
NEVER post a questions until you've read the whole thread cos chances are it's already been answered.
5. Just a couple of pointers about the ROM.
It was made by a Polish guy so there are a couple of things set to Polish. You will have to change the regional settings in 'Settings | System | Regional Settings' back to the country of your origin.
Also the finger keyboard is set to Polish and he hasn't included any other languages. You'll have to go here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=545758&page=3 to post #30. Download the skin set and copy it to your Windows\Skins folder on your device. This will allow you to select other languages for the keyboard.
It is quite a bare ROM so for that added little bit of BLING I added the S2U2 screen locking application. It basically gives you that little unlocking slider thingy from the iPhone (spit). Go to somewhere like http://handheld.softpedia.com/get/System-Utilities/Enhancements/S2U2-52386.shtml to download the CAB and install it as normal.
I also hate IE6 on these tiny screens. For a much better browsing experience I recommend Opera from http://www.opera.com/mobile/ You can scroll around the page and double click to zoom in. The tool bars also disappear when your browsing to give you more screen to play with. It works for me, you may not like it.
So that about wraps it up for this guide. I hope some of you total newbies find it a bit less daunting this way and will not be too scared to give other ROMs a try in the future, It's all about what you like and what you want out of your phone at the end of the day.
Please don't forget to donate some money to the chefs (especially Tomme45i) for all thier hard work if you appreciate their product. It doesn't have to be loads even if its only a pound or two. If everyone does it it mounts up. A happy chef is a chef who gets paid and releases lots of fixes/upgrades.
Do I have to take out memory card during this proccess?
Others have said you have to. but I must admit, I forgot at least once when i was flashing a ROM and it didn't seem to make any difference.
Best to take it out I guess as one of the other steps might rely on it not being in there.
Let me know how it goes.
Fantastic!
Only question-do you have P3600 or P3600i?
I have VPA compact GPS (P3600) and it seems to be different ROMs for them?
As far as I know the P3600 is exactly the same as the M700 except it has different casing. I'm currently using a different WinMo6.5 ROM with Manila that was made for a P3600 with no problems.
The P3600i has twice as much RAM memory and does require different ROM's to run.
I did it all that you said and everything is working fine, thanks for great info.
But I dont like installed ROM that you suggested and I want to flash with other one. My question is what I should flash, only ROM or I have to flash radio, olipro...?
The Radio and OliPro are now on your device until you decide to change them and overwrite them with something else. You only need to download a new ROM and install that on your phone as in the last stage of the tutorial.
This ROM by Tomme45i is very quick and very stable but it is quite simple too. Most people want something a bit more flashy. The problem with that is, with our old phones, the more bling you add the slower and more unstable they become.
I have recently put a good ROM on my phone. It is by Narshorn. It has the 23016 build of Windows 6.5 and a nice Manila2D front end (as well as the CHome front end where all the items are stacked top to bottom but I don't like that. I much prefer Manila2D). I think he is about to release a new version of it with some bug fixes in today (09/09/09) so it might be worth waiting for that.
Here is the link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=549146
It's well worth reading the thread to get a feel for the limitations the ROM has, but so far I've found it to be very fast and stable.
Don't forget to donate to Narshorn for all his hard work. You only have to give him a few pounds and it all adds up. He had over 200 people download his last build and only 2 donated.
The best thing to do at this point is to head over to the ROM development thread and just READ READ READ.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=359
Choosing a ROM is a very personal thing. Some will be perfect for someone and horrible for his friend. It just depends what you're looking for.
I only wrote this guide to get people started, the rest of the adventure is up to you to discover.
Good luck
I install tryniti 6.1. OS ultimate edition and for now I am satisfied.
Glad to hear it. Stick a link in to that ROM so others can try it out if they want.
Of course for me, I'd always try and find a 6.5 build because it has lots of finger friendly additions that mean you never have to get your stylus out to press any fiddly little menus.
Congrats ! Very GOOD Guide for new starters !
Hi chimpsinties,
I am reading since three days all the Trinity section here at the forum, each days three hours at least. I could say, this guide is quite actual, complete enough, and pointed very well, for one to start flashing an HTC P3600.
As myself.
Well, I am not a total newbie, I have flashed some months ago another device- FSCT830. But concerning Trinity- I have had no idea about until read here.
The device data up to the moment are:
ROM Version: 1.23.405.2
ROM date: 03/11/07
Radio Version: 1.38.00.11
Protocol Version: 32.71.7020.12H
ExtROM Version: 1.23.405.103
I assume the device is HTC P3600, but not HTC P3600i. Right ?
And before start asking details: is there any difference in your guide for G3 and G4 devices? How to determine what is it?
So I would to ask you some questions regarding the procedure and the availability of all original applications and devices in the new ROMs.
Please find below right inbetween your sentences, but IN CAPITAL LETTERS.
I am eager to test a new ROM !
Thank you in advance for reply.

Right, we're gonna do the following:

5. Install a couple of little extras
First off make sure you have the latest ActiveSync 4.5 installed.
1. OK, first lets unlock it:
SO, I HAVE THE DEVICE IN FRONT OF ME AND IT HAS BEEN NEVER LOCKED. I CAN USE ANY SIM CARD WITH. DOES THIS MEANS I CAN MISS THIS POINT ?
Go to..........................
There we go, now you have an unlocked phone. But the old radio has probably made it so your satnav won't work.
IF I STAY WITH THE CURRENT RADIO ROM- SHOULD I FLASH SUCCESSFULLY THE DEVICE WITH A WM6.1 ROM? (e.g. Tomme45i or other reccomended)
2. Next let's get a new Hard SLP on there so you can flash other ROMs and Radios. ..............................................
This is basically just another bit of software that will replace the SPL on your phone so you can flash Radio's and ROMs at your leisure.
I PLAN TO MAKE AN SSPL FROM HERE: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=293632&page=7 . IN THIS CASE I SHOULD MISS THE HARD SPL, RIGHT? ESPECIALLY WITH TEH DEVICE'S ACTUAL FW. CORRECT ME IF I AM WRONG.
IN CASE I CONSIDER TO UPGRADE THE RADIO ROM, BUT I HAVE MISSED POINT NO.1 HOW SHOULD I GUESS WHICH ARE THE BUTTONS TO CLICK IN ROMUpdeteUtility.exe ? IS THERE ANY GUIDE ABOUT, BUT IN ENGLISH?
...................................................................................Connect your phone again and run the ROMUpdateUtility.exe from the 1.56 radio folder.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
4. Ok now this is the bit where the choice is entirly up to you and you really do have to do what everyone says and experiment. ----------------------- I personally wanted a fast and stable operating system with has lots of free RAM and not too much rubbish that will slow the phone down. Remember our beloved Trinity's are getting a bit long in the tooth these days and even the most modern handsets (eg Touch HD) have trouble with WinMo 6.5 in some of it's forms. I AGREE TOTALLY WITH YOU HERE. I PREFER WM6.1 AS IT IS MORE ADAPTED TO THE HARDWARE OF P3600. BTW, ISN'T TOMME45i'S ROM FOR THE NEXT MODEL (3600i) ONLY? MY DEVICE HAS 128MB RAM, SO I ASSUME IS THE MODEL WITHOUT "i" .
Download Tomme45i's brilliant 6.5 ROM from here --------------------------.
AS PER THE METHOD OF FLASHING: YOU RECCOMEND THE ACTIVESYNC ONE.
BUT I HAVE READ A LOT OF COMPLAINTS SAYING THE DEVICE LOOSE THE CONNECTIONS WITH THE PC DURING IT. THEREFORE I AM THINKING OVER THE SDCARD METHOD OF FLASHING. WHAT IS YOUR OPINION ABOUT IT?
5. Just a couple of pointers about the ROM.
I also hate IE6 on these tiny screens. For a much better browsing experience I recommend Opera from http://www.opera.com/mobile/ You can scroll around the page and double click to zoom in. The tool bars also disappear when your browsing to give you more screen to play with. It works for me, you may not like it.
ISN'T OPERA CONSUMES MORE RAM THAN IE6 ?
AND LAST QUESTION: WITH ALL THE ROMS YOU HAVE TESTED, CAN YOU SAY WHICH OF THE ORIGINAL APPS AND FUNCTIONS ON THE DEVICE ARE NOT WORKING DEFINITELY WITH MOST OF THEM? E.G. WHAT WE HAVE TO SACRIFICE MAKING A NEW ROM FLASH?

Wow, that's a big post. I'll try and answer it all as best I can.
To start with, it's very important to know if you have a P3600 or P3600i. The P3600 has 64MB RAM and 128MB Flash, the P3600i has 128MB RAM and 256MB Flash. The upgrade ROMS are designed to work specifically with each version of the phone.
Tomme45i's ROM I link to in the tutorial is definitely for the P3600 (SPV M700) because I had it on my handset for weeks and it worked perfectly.
I don't know what a G3 or G4 device is? Sorry
Your radio version looks very old. I would get that upgraded to the 1.56.70.11
Regarding unlocking. It is probably worth doing the 1st step anyway. Even though you're phone might be SIM unlocked to use any provider, it might still be CID locked, which means it can only use the stock ROM that came with the device. You might need to CID unlock it to allow you to change your ROM.
That way, if you do the first step, you will get used to the ROM Update Utility screens and it won't matter that they are in Chinese for the 3rd step.
I would recommend OliPro's v1.20 of HardSPL. It is virtually impossible to brick you're phone using this and you will really struggle to get the 1.56.70.11 Radio on there if you use anything else. It's the only one I found that would allow me to upgrade the Radio.
As mentioned above, I've tried lots of combinations of software and the steps in the guide were the best way to get it all to work perfectly for me.
Windows Mobile 6.5 is much better for finger friendly use. Windows 6.1 still uses a lot of the old menu styles which you usually need a stylus for. I hate Windows Mobile 6.1 now and would always look for a 6.5 ROM. When I say that these devices are not made for 6.5, I only refer to all the extra really fancy bits of the software like TouchFlo3D, CHome etc etc
Some of the 6.5 ROMs are very fast and very clean (no extra fancy bits) especially Tomme45i's. I would strongly recommend you go for a 6.5 ROM and not a 6.1. Even the 6.5 by Nashorn I recommend in a later post is very fast and looks great with the Manila2D. I use it now instead of the more plain Tomme45i ROM. You also get the gestures support so you can sweep your finger across the screen to move menus (like the iPhone) which is very cool.
Regarding the technique used to flash the ROM, I can't comment. I've never used the SD card technique. I have flashed my phone over 20 times using the USB cable and never had a problem. What could be easier than plugging it in to the PC and double clicking a program.
I like the way with Opera you can scroll around a bigger page by dragging you finger and zoom by double clicking, however I found that Opera does not support online streaming video. I now use IE8 which is included in the Nashorn ROM. It's very nice. You can even choose to browse as a desktop device (so you get all the pages rendered normally) or a mobile device ( so you get the reduced size pages) which is a very nice feature. As you experiment with the software, you find what you like and what you don't like. It's all personal choice, what is good for me won't be good for everyone. It's just a guide after all
Of all the ROMs I've tested I've never found any of the basic things that come with Windows Mobile missing. They all usually have Office, Windows messenger, Media player etc etc. I've never found myself having to sacrifice anything to run a new ROM, you usually just find extra things you didn't know you needed
I would say, a finger keyboard is very important, the combination of a 6.5 ROM and finger keyboard means you never have to get your stylus out any more. Both the ROM's I recommend come with a Finger Keyboard included.
It's just a case of finding Cabs for the things you want extra, S2U2, GAlarm, TomTom etc.
I hope I've been able to answer all your questions. Most of what you're asking is just a question of what you like. This is why they always say, 'Just try things until you find what you like'. I wrote this guide so that people who didn't really know what they were doing could get a feel for it and then experiment on their own.
Best of luck, and don't forget to donate to a chef if you like his cooking. That way they will continue to cook for us on this old hardware.
Nice thread - very informative. When I think of the fun and games I had when I first found XDA Developers and downloaded what I needed to unlock my Orange SPV M700 (had several screens open and several downloads on the go)
I have the Narshorn WM6.5 build with Manilla 2D and it has given my phone a whole new lease of life (I was getting bored of WM6 and was looking to buy a new WM6.5 device)
Stuck in Tri-Color screen
Hi,
Thanks for composing all the steps here in an easy to follow manner.
My phone is in super CID mode.
I'm running Vista ultimate.
Whenever I try any of the steps you've specified, they phone goes to the boot loader and remains in tri-color mode. The connection with vista mobile device center is cut off, but the phone itself is not stuck. If you disconnect the USB it says "serial" and if you connect it, it goes back to "usb".
Nothing more happens.
I tried SD flashing as well (renamed the file as specified), but it doesn't do anything. I can start the boot loader, but it doesn't do anything.
I've searched the forums for the error 260, but found nothing useful for flashing with vista.
I also tried unchecking the "allow USB connections" in the mobile device center, but then the device just doesn't connect.
What step am I missing?
Thanks.
Hmmmm
Unfortunately I don't use Vista so I haven't researched any problems associated with it. I know people suggest downgrading the USB drivers or if possible using an XP machine to do the flashing. There is no reason why the SD card technique shouldn't work although I haven't tried it myself.
It might be worth posting on the main board with your problems. I wrote this guide with nothing more than my own experiences in mind and unfortunately haven't had a vast amount of experience at this myself. Maybe I was just lucky to have got it right first time.
Sorry I couldn't be of more help and I hope you get it sorted soon. It's well worth persisting because getting WM6.5 on the old Trinity will transform it and give your years (or at least months) more life out of it. Unitl you get bored and want more power to play with all the cool new features like Touchflo 3D etc
Thanks
Thanks anyway. I'll start my quest for an XP machine.
Great ! It works !

I decided to follow exactly all your advices. And now I have a pretty good WM6.5 on this HTC 3600.
I am missing now the Video call and the (other than English) finger keyboard.
I think you have mentioned as finger keyboard, the one that appears when you are trying the write somewhere in the programs. You have not had in mind a special program, right ?
A per video cal- I have followed the developer's advice at: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=545758&page=3 (post 21), but when I press the green key, still no 'video call' button. Am I missing something ?
I can also report the following navi progs are working just with clicking on the respective .exe on the memory card available with the old, original WM5.0:
Garmin XT5.020, TT7.915, MN7.4.3; iGo8.32, Navitel 3.2.6.

The FingerKeyboard is actually cooked into the ROM, but is missing the extra languages to save on space. You need to add the ones you want separately.
As I said in the first post:

You'll have to go here http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...=545758&page=3 to post #30. Download the skin set and copy it to your Windows\Skins folder on your device. This will allow you to select other languages for the keyboard.

Don't you have to enable the video calling in advanced options? or maybe download a small fix .cab file that will enable it? I can't remember right now. I've only ever used video calling once and that was just to see what it was like.
I'm glad yo got it to work anyway
Now you can try other ROMs and see which one you like most. I'm still loving nashorns rom with Manila2D but I think he's been having problems with it recently.
It can be tempting to stick with one ROM just because you have got it working. Soon you'll be so good at reflashing it'll only take you about an hour to do it and get all your programs and settings back exactly how they were.
How?

No, on an XP netbook (LenovoS10e).
there were several reports in the thread Vista has to be updated with some drivers before being capable to do the flash on Trinity.
I want to correct myself in a point:
MN7.43 starts, but crashes under WM6.5 I am still trying to find a workaround about that.
I've made all the changes to my Orange Spv M700 according to Your great guide!
It looks great!
Can anyone tell me which IGO8 runs on this ROM?
How can I change the default ringtone please? It gives me three choices without being able to browse to other ringtones....
I've got about 600 contacts I don't want to change them one by one....
Thank You!
