Hi
Yesterday i noticed that the screen of my Touch Diamond had a strange oil pattern in square in the middle. everything works OK and i can't see it when it is turned on, but i would like to know what it is.
i have attached a picture...

looks like some seperation of the layers. trippy...
I have that pattern on my old phone with touch screen, but not on my diamond. Wanna know what that is
I once had that on my Artemis.
If you put it very close to a radiator, you will notice after a few minutes it will start to get smaller and smaller
Lol
It went away on its own after a few days.
The thing that triggered it was that I took it out with me one time and it was extremely cold outside, even snowing. I left it in my pocket.
When I got home, I noticed that.
If you leave it at room temperature for a few days it will get smaller and smaller then just eventually go away. But you probably exposed the device to too much cold a couple of days ago.
I had this on my compact iv, just recieved a new one a few days ago and noticed this same kind of thing but the exact size of the activesinc sticker, gone now though after a few days
that looks like some sortt of humidity or condensation...do you have a screen protector? if you do, take it off....
Touch layer separate of display glass WOW what a huge surface...I had it on asus P525 about half of centimiter in diameter but nothing affect touch sensitivity but this is LOL
sry cant help myself
Did you get off screenprotection too fast and agresively????
This square seems to be equal to the size of the screen protector's glued surface (the one which is originally delivered with it, not the one you place yourself). So I would think about the same with the guy just above: Was it too much glued and you took it forcing ?
I've had that too since the beginning.. i thought it was normal.. mine is a bit smaller and sometimes you cant notice it ... how the hell do i get rid of it?
wrong post.. sorry
Update
Hi
Just want to give a update of my problem...
I send my TD in for warranty repair and just got it back today, the front including the LCD screen has been replaced.
It is so good to have my TD back, btw it took a little over a week at a HTC service center here in Denmark.
Regards,
Allan
Same problem
I have the same problem with my diamond (same size and shape). I sent it to warranty repair 2 weeks ago and still waiting for it. The guy in the service said: he don't think the service will replace it.
abp: Do you have a service report about your problem? If my service refuse to replace it, I want to show them a service report to appeal.

Hello there, XDA.
This thread is more for an ensurance for me that I've done nothing wrong when using my phone - and it might show up that some other people have the same problem as I do.
Now, to the thingie. Bought a HTC Diamond about 3 months ago - working just fine. Although about 3-4 weeks ago I realized that when I tilt my screen, I can see some crazy stuff going on... There is two pictures attached and linked to further down.
Anyone else has this problem? Would be lovely to hear what you've done. I sent an e-mail to HTC and the manu... manufactourer-/or~ (spelling :b).

That just looks like moisture between the screen protector and the screen itself.
Odd that it's in a perfect rectangle. I've seen this before on a mates LG Viewty (Horrible phone!), but he never followed it up so I don't know what the cause was. It did have a touch screen, but no protector. Perhaps its moisture actually in the screen or a manufacturing fault?
Good luck.
Oh my - I had rectangle on the screen today when I removed the protective front later (brand new phone).
Though It's no longer showing I'm scared its going to become more apparent and eventually become like this.
What is going on with QA and HTC?
There was another exact case like this that I saw this week. Can't really remmeber but do a search and you will find it.
I have the same thing on my Touch Pro, and another user has had the same problem on his (her?) Diamond:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=428262
Unfortunately it isn't moisture below the screen protector, but that the touch resistive layer was subject to heavy pressure (eg: being squeezed in the pocket). It shouldn't affect anything in the short term, but in the long run the touch screen might become erratic or imprecise, so you should keep an eye on it.
The store I bought my TPro from doesn't accept returns/exchanges, and so far HTC hasn't replied to my support ticket. Unfortunately I think some of us are going to be left out in the cold. Personally I'm tempted to buy a replacement touch layer and replace it myself, but of course that would void the warranty (even though it doesn't seem to be doing me any good).
If this becomes widespread, there could be a chance for a class action lawsuit (hopefully HTC will wise up and help us out before it comes to that).
Ouch >.<, feeling sad (but somewhat a bit of relief) that some others has the same problem.
Yes, the rectangular shape is very, very odd - since that makes me think that just pressure can create this mess. It feels more like a manufacturing fault.. But, as for fhsieh, HTC hasn't respond to my support ticket.
Wondering if I should call them to get a direct answer.. Hm.
I've suffered this
But in a Touch Cruise I own before. I thought, as said, that this regular shape can only came from a pressure problem.
Loosing my warranty (due to the long time to be repaired here in Spain), I opened it, confirming that was not a problem with moisture (at least in my case). Also I saw the resistive layer poorly sticked to the body, with zones unglued, causing the layer to raise, specially in the bottom edges. This bothered me a lot, because I ended with lot of dirt between the layer and the screen itself, unable to clean.
Maybe that was the problem. If the layer is not correctly assembled it gets an irregular surface (as lightly squeeshed) , yielding this. But, functionally speaking, the screen was performing well, as it should be.
Hope this helps.
It's only humidity... it happens also in my diamond... try to dry it under the sun..(not so good for lcd but it works for me)..

Yes, it's due to the prefect pressure of the screen, exactly in the center..if you try to press a corner for example near to Start button (with screen off) you should see the spot follow your finger's pressure. So there is a small drop between LCD and screen..(for me)
I had same problem in polaris. Send it for warranty as this is manufacturing fault. Why keep ****??? its htc s fault!?!
Well I thought i was the only one who had this problem till I came across this thread.... it's quite weird it's in a perfect rectangular shape anyone tried removing the protective screen and checkin whether it is the display... but one thing you hve to notice once the display is on we can't see tht on the screen only against a black background can you notice it....
It is the problem of screen protector. You may not see this watermark after you take off the screen protector. Try other good screen protector like Brando, Martin Fields ....

I tried removing the screen protector and the rectangular shape is still there then I put it in front of an A/C cooler unit and it went away!!!! then after awhile it returned back and the place I live is very hot and humid so I guess it's weather which plays a role....
Guys!
Sad news!
I droped the X1 yesterday while getting out of the car. It was in a pouch. And damm the display does not show up anymore. I get calls and all but the display does not show up atall. I am so pissed at myself. I checked with a local guy and he said the display would cost US$ 52 (apporx) Now that cheap but then he said thats not along with the touch screen. I Wonder how come the display and touch screen are different. Does anyone know?
Also had come across a thread of a X1 being opened. Can someone gimme the link if they know it.
Regards
if i remember i think there was a video on youtube that someone was opening an xperia step by step
the digitizer shouldnt be that expensive
someone who dropped the phone had similar problems.. maybe u can find it and see if there are solutions?
deja vu
Yeh I heard someone else here did that, seems it's quite sensitive to drops, Im guessing maybe the ribbon comes loose or something if the LCD isnt actually smashed? That being said, if it's just the screen, the touchscreen should still work and not need replacing aswell?
I mean if theyre the same piece and not interchangeable surely they would come together?
my touch stop working suddently, but the screen works fine... but the thing is that i doesnt drop the phone... i dont know... im waiting for a change now...
Check this video:

he also disassembles the rear here:

Dropped my X1 phone as well
I had recently dropped my phone as well and the screen also stopped working, but the phone was completely functional. The repairing people told me it would cost me approx $150+ to get it fixed. The next day i decided to turn the phone on again and the screen worked.
So hopefully, the screen will fix itself for you as well
Bummer
It sounds like the connecter behind the screen has come loose - 52 bucks to open it up and put it back sounds about right.
I'd give opening it up a try, although I remember reading the thread when the service manual for opening it was first leaked - the guys said it wasn't easy!
Is it not still under warranty or something?
no warranty?
warranty will fix it
I was the guy who dropped his and had the same problem. Sent it in for warranty (great service I bought in the UK but live in Barbados so I sent it to the US location). Got it back in two and a half weeks fixed for no charge. Mine didn't have any visible damage from the drop though so maybe that made a difference? Good luck with yours!
hey, i remove the screen protector and start working!!!
Repair manuals

I had same problem, in SE service they change flat cable, cost me 25 euro.
I had the same problem yesterday. Just searching for disassemble example and it works all of sudden today!
my x1 dropped too and the display stopped working ( black screen ) , but ive only called the service and 2 days later i had a new device in my hands for free
my X1 work again!
Hey, thanks for the dissasembly links!
Mine fell down onto stone ground and i had the same symtomes, sounds, calls everything was working but not the display. I dissasembled and reassembled, and it worked again! I think the plug of the ribbon cable connecting the front panel with the mainboard in the back unit was loose.
Cheers!
Screamer
I am currently really interested in a Diamond, however the thread Oily liquid underneath screen - from nowhere kinda make me reconsidering it. Because of that I contacted HTC and received a surprisingly quick reply, stating that nearly every device sent in had a physical damage
Dear Sir, I can confirm that this fault is normally caused by physical damage to the device. Nearly every single device we have repaired with this fault has had some form of physical damage that has led to the fault. Of course the few that haven't were repaired under warranty. I quote directly from our repair centre: This issue is caused by air/liquid entering the LCD layer, and is nearly always OOW (Out Of Warranty) as it can only be caused by excess pressure on the screen. As long as you look after the device, and take care of it, this issue is unlikely to affect you. We have numerous Touch Dimonds here in our support centre, around 3 or 4 for each language we support, and not one of them have displayed this issue.

Today I took a look at some models on display in several stores and except for one all showed the same effect described in this thread. However I have to admit that this might not be the perfect example for a comparison as those poor phones probably not get treated extremely well in stores.
So I hope to find out with this poll how many people really have got this issue, respectively how many of them can explain it with too much pressure.
Thanks everyone.
I had exactly the same problem. Just went back to T-Mobile Netherlands, and they admitted directly that this is a common issue. They repaired it under warranty conditions at no fee at all. They just replaced the entire screen and luckily I've never faced the problem again.
Also, when the oilish liquid was there, the screen alignment was always a little outlined, and when you tap the slylus on that spot you can hear a strange hard "click".
Thanks to all voters, so far all voted to have no problems, except for one, I suppose peponline.
More opinions/votes appreciated.
I've got it on my 7 month old diamond - screen works ok, but tapping it isn't soft like it used to be. Not a bad enough problem to send it back and be without a phone for a couple of weeks, or risk being charged for!
Thanks for your post Alpsp, did it happen for no reason or did you do touch the screen once too hard?
Those who voted the third option, are you definitely sure it couldnt have come from too much pressure - maybe unnoticed in the pockets?
More comments/votes appreciated.
Hi Lutent, I can honestly say I don't believe I've put any abnormal amount of pressure on the screen - I'm pretty careful with the phone, it doesn't have a single scratch on it yet.
What is strange though, is that I've just tried to take a photo of the liquid for you, but it has completely disapppeared!
The only reason I can think of for this is that it hasn't been in my pocket all morning so will be cooler than usual. Also it doesn't show up so much in daylight - I'll have a look later tonight and see if I can photograph it
Hi all
I have the same issue. mine covers 50 % of the screen.
Whats funny is that its exactly right smack in the middle of the screen
its like a zoom box of the screen.
It appeared suddenly and all my touch screen alignments runs as well.
didnt have time to send for warranty until recently.
have sent it in now currently waiting for repairs to complete.
so far no news about if its OOW
smudge
Had this problem for some short time, the touchscreen has become hard to handle, as it's not very precise in the area of the "liquid spot", covering 1/9 of the center of the screen. Have no clue of where it came from.
Just sent an mail to the store, demanding replacement refering to this as a common problem after doing some reseach at different forums online.
Waiting for reply. Will notify the results.
Same problem with my HTC Fuze. It looked perfect. Never dropped. Made call. Looked good. Pulled it out 5 minutes later...the square was there. (I had just flown from Atlanta to LAX...I wonder if atmosphere had anything to do with it???)
Definitly a defect in design.
PS...The letter they sent is BS. It's not the LCD but the touchscreen. The touchscreen is touching the LCD...in my case anyway.
You will probably also notice a slight curvature of the touchscreen down toward the LCD if you look closely.
The reason they don't want to repair them is because this is the most time consuming repair. The phone has to be completely disassembled to attach the cable.
I am really pissed. i had liquid under the display just two days after I bought it.
I am super careful with all my electronic devices and not once did I have to send in any device to get it repaired.
the D2 was also always in the leather pouch.
For some reason, initially the oily liquid disappeared and I could keep on using it, however not it is there permanently and when I called the warranty place, they said that most likely I will have to pay for the repair as displays are not covered by warranty.
I am really pissed and would recommend buying a different phone. Sooner or late I bet everyone will have this problem. It happened to me after just two days, I can not imagine it to last 2 years or so...
Sigh... same issue here. I just bought a TP from a good friend of mine who is exceptionally carefull with his phones and I've just noticed a big part of the screen (1/4) being full with the Newton Rings.
Just to know if this issue is common over the TD2 comunity!!!
I voted and I do. It is not just by the volume bar but all over the screen. It moves to different places during the day. Indoors and at night it is not noticable when the screen is on but during the day and when the screen is off I can see it. Hopefully it is an issue that is fixed and HTC will replace our units mebe.
I had a TD2 for about 2 weeks when I noticed dust entering beneath the screen near the volume keys. I returned it for an exchange and have had a second TD2 for a week and this one is doing exactly the same....seems to much of a coincidence to be an isolated case....I suspect there is a design flaw.
Im now arranging to return this device, going to choose something different....shame though cos I thought the TD2 was such an improvement over the original TD!
Looks like is better to wait for TP2, ha?
What about blowing off the dust with compressed air can? Did anybody try it?
later
To blow it off you have to dismantle your TD2 from backside. There is no service manual (dismantling guide) yet. I sent my TD2 to the service, they blowed the dust off, but the dust is coming in again. I think there is a sealing problem...
So, lets get antistatic gloves, screw driver, plastic crowbar and...
It may be interesting to see if there's a correlation with where the device is constructed. Mine is made in taiwan and has no dust.

Mine is also taiwan. But WITH dust..
I also encountered this problem.. i just got this phone 2 days ago.. Though not really a lot of dust.. but it is still visible beneath the screen, near volume keys.. ARGH!! Mine is also from taiwan..
ME TOO
I have my second unit now and both has the dust problem!
this is sooo sad,
I already called htc support center and I am waiting on an answer.
No dust here.
no dust after month!
no dust here either. Any idea from which side it should get under ur screen? and might It have anything to do with the way ur handling ur phones? (not pointing fingers here, just curious)
Dust here after four weeks.
It wont let me vote for some reason either in the poll. Mine is not in a dusty environment and lives in a canvas cover so no idea how its got in!
Yes Dust after one week of use...
R.
Also dust after 1 week already, have it now almost a month.
No dust anywhere maybe, because I'm using a pouch bag
dust free after 1 week. i always put in my leather case.
Is this normal? It doesnt really effect much as you can only tell when the phone is in certain lights? Just seems odd... Would a screen protector sort it out or anything?
hmm, mine has it also - but not from the beginning (at least i think so).
it appeared about 4 months ago, after 1 one year usage.
i used to have a screen protector an took it off, because i thought thats the reason for this "effect" - but it´s under the display glass.
anyway - it has to be some liquid stuff, because wehen i´m pushing on the display, this "blur" is moving like some lava lamp
my blurred zone is 1,8 x 3 cm....
How strange, I got mine off ebay so I dont know how long it had been used for... But the phone itself was in great condition and you can see the screen okay so I didnt fancy complaining! Wonder if there is a fix? Doubt there is a simple fix anyway!
Mine has that as well. A friend advised me to get a new digitizer (basically it's the screen) as it would also improve it's touch responsiveness... not that I'm having much of an issue. Plus it's cheap, you can get it on ebay starting at about 7 uk pounds.
Any input on this issue? It itches me that it's there.
Seems odd that a few people are having this problem, whats this thing you can buy off ebay ? Would it mean opening the phone up n stuff ?
