You need to go to the development and hacking section of the forums, and read
I was looking for a theme changing the color of all windows but I could not find anything.

I'm using HTC Home Customizer/HTC home plugin. I want just a pure black background on my today screen. I tried selecting a pure black jpg using the today screen setting "Use this picture as the background." The background ended up just being light gray. Anyone know how to do this? I think I'm just being dumb.

Here is a completely black theme for u.
EDIT: Instruction - copy the unzipped theme into your windows directory, then go to settings/personal/today and the black theme should be there as a option. Select it and click ok.

on a related note, I've been trying to make a black theme with the attached pic for a b/g, but using a theme creator and making the top and bottom bars black, also causing it to be a light grey.
I would use your theme, Mikulec, but i believe you would have white writing?
I've attached my theme as well.
Any chance of helping a newbie? Thanks!
edit: Checked yours, Mikulec, and you do have white writing that won't show up on mine, plus the bottom bar is still light grey? Or did I do something wrong?

RC bar can change the bar color too, its really useful. Black is #160 I think.

I am using program called ThemeGenCE. There u can do almost everything. The problem was that this program is making the bottom and uper bars in another caller(when u set the bars black, the color is in reality black-grey). I used another program to make the bars completely black.
I dont know how can I help you, cause I dont know how u want the theme to look like. The problem is that your pic is white and black so u cant use black or white text.
I will gladly help if u need me. U can try the ThemeGenCE.

I just followed your instructions to create an all black background, but it didn't work. It only made the task and soft-key bars black.
I just want a simple black background.

No offense, but yes, you're being dumb.
Goto the "pictures and videos" application. select the photo you want, Menu > Set as Today Background, and set Transparency to 0%.

Re-Read the original post. He says he's trying to set the today screen's picture and it's being greyed out when he sets it in the today (under settings) screen. In order to get a non-greyed out photo on your today screen, do what I wrote above. Also, learn to read sarcasm.
Black.zip solution response please
Could someone with a solution respond to my question about the use of the black.zip download to create an solid-black background in all windows (I recently installed hergs flip clock and landscape mode)?
I followed Mikulec's instructions and installed the black file, saw it listed in the Today screen, selected it, had auto reset, but the Today background didn't go to black.

Why is it so hard to change the home tab font color in HD? Is there any application that can be used?
I goggled it everywhere... nothing... i installed uitweaker, doesn't work.

i just installed this on my fuze and have a few issues..
i currently have a stock rom and using "da mad scientists" manila theme. i turned off tf3d before i installed the cab then turned tf3d back on and more than just the font color changed..
i was using the hd contacts tab and now the icon to send a text message is missing from each contact and the internet bookmarks changed from the 3d "going away look" to the normal 2d list.
i then disabled tf3d, uninstalled this cab, soft reset,enabled tf3d and the font is still black and all the tabs are the same..
anyone have a guess how to fix this?

It disables the default bottom bar and uses it's own instead, so you can't get it in other apps.

Not possible to get it as the default bottom bar, unfortunately. If you have WM 6.5.1/6.5.3, you can search for a GreeNeon theme, it also has toolbar buttons with a glow.

I hate to bring this old thread up again. But, does anyone have an answer?
It seems that the menu background for some common applications like "Root Explorer" or "Droid Analytics" does not change properly with the theme. Instead, it shows a white menu with white text.
My entire device is completely Gingerbread themed based off of the stock framework-res. But, these menus are totally messed up. White text on white menus. Should be white text on black transparent menus.
I might be way off: But have you guys tried changing the color in the .XML file/s?

I changed the colors for menus within framework-res.apk res/values/styles.xml. All other menus system-wide work fine. Every other application menu works fine.
Which XML are you thinking about?

I was thinking maybe changing color codes in Root Explorer's XML might help. But I don't know.

Oh yeah I thought about that. But, since I'm creating this theme for a ROM used by hundreds of people, I'd rather not have to theme these external applications.
Someone's got to know the answer to this problem!

Im having a problem theming pop up background colors. For example if you hot the menu button in the browser, you get new windows bookmark etc... the background I have for that is black with white text. However if I hit the more option? It brings up a new pop up menu with the same blavk background but now the text is black and I can't see it.
So my question is what file is it to change that background and where or where is the. Xml file to change that font color to white? Thanks!

Thanks, but I didn't find what I was looking for in that topic.
I'm pretty sure that's either in resources.arsc or services.jar in system/framework/framework-res.apk...I can't remember what sub folder it was maybe values/styles...you will have to decompile them using apktool or some other tool that uses smali /baksmali ... hope this points you in the right direction.
