Hello,
there are a lot of post about sorting the contacts by firstname or displaying them by firstname but what I'm looking for is a bit different.
When I create a new contact (through the phone interface or directly throught the contact interface), the default setting for the field "File as" is Lastname, Firstname. So if I don't change anything, it will be displayed with Lastname first. As all my contacts are displayed with Firstname first, this is just anoying.
Especially when I create the contact throught the phone application. Because in this case, I don't have access the "file as" field. so I need to create the contact. Save it. then edit it and change the "file as" filed to display it by name.
So my question is simple : is there a registry entry which can be changed in order to have, by default, the field "file as" filled in with Firstname first then lastname.
Thanks
Vincent
i think 'contact changer.cab' will do the job, as you can choose between "lastname, firstname" and "firstname, middlename, lastname" formats.
However, if you sync with outlook, and do the updats always on outlook, first, you do't have such problem.
I register all my contacts on outlook (PC), first, and whe I sync with diamond the listings generated follow the "file as" sequence
you can use "display as" and "file as" in outlook contact properties.

Hey does anyone know how to get all the contacts that are listed in my Gmail account onto my phone so that when i compose new messages i dont have to type a person's entire email address?
It seems like there has to be a way but i can't quite figure it out.
Thanks!
I'm sticking my neck out a bit here, but I think this will work
Load up your Gmail account on your PC, and go to Contacts; over on the top right of the contacts display is an "Export" link. This opens a new window, with two choices - pick the one that says "export to Outlook" and then save the file it generates somewhere on your PC. If you don't want every single contact imported to the phone, edit the .CSV file with Notepad (or whatever) and delete the lines containing the contacts you don't want. When you're done editing, save the file back as a .CSC file with the same name. That's the easy bit, now comes some fun
Use ActiveSync to copy the .CSC file to somewhere on your phone - the Storage Card is probably as good a place as any......then,
....use DotFred's "PPC PIM Backup" utility - get it from HERE - on your phone and select "Restore" from the drop down list on the first screen. Then navigate to where you saved the .CSC file on your phone and select "Next". You will then see a screen similar to the one attached - make sure you select "Comma" as the field delimiter and then tap Next to import the contact data...
CAVEAT: If you have contacts already stored on your phone, use PPCPIMbackup to take a backup of them first.....just in case this procedure f*&ks things up completely (as I said at the beginning, it should work!!).
You should now have all your Gmail contacts on your phone and you can edit them with the phone's Contacts application so they look (maybe) a bit more presentable...
Hope this is of some help
Mark.
Hi,
Dose any know how i can get an Email count for Outlook E-mail ?
i am using wibar on my Tytn II and i have sorted out how to get the email count for two which are "gmail" and "fastmail" but as you know the Tytn has to check these every 30min or so (what ever time has been set) but i setup an account with mobipush which uses Outlook and that why i need the count for it if its possible.
i have used the method below from another forum
1. Create a shortcut (wherever) to \windows\tmail.exe.
2. Modify that shortcut so that it reads"
"\windows\tmail.exe" -service "AccountName"
AccountName should be exactly as it show up in your Accounts list. (When you're in tmail, click menu, then "Go to" and use the name as you see it there. I'm using this trick for POP accounts - I'm not sure if this will work for "Outlook E-mail". For Text Messages, of course, you use "SMS" and for Multimedia messages you use "MMS".)
Once you have the shortcut, just specify the filename for the .LNK file (e.g. "\My Documents\gmail.lnk") as the command for your (WAD) shortcut.
You can use the same principles to create a Text Object (which can sit on top of the icon that takes you to that e-mail account) which will show the unread message count for that account. Just create a text object with
Object Type: Custom Text
Text to display: %Unread:AccountName% (as above) and
Tap Action: .LNK file as above
now i did try this but with the account name of "Outlook E-mail" and "Outlook" but none of those seem to work.
if any of you clever members could get this working i would be very grateful.
Tony
Hi.
I found in the address book of Outlook a lot of useless category, like "Car", "ISDN" etc...
A lot of my contacts have more than one Mobile number, so I put them into "Other", but this category won't be synchronized with the TYTN...
Can I edit the name of these categories to change from "Car" to "Mobile 2" and so on...
Thanks Bye
I've delete the "account outlook" by activesync (unchecking the email sync) but I cannot delete the other accounts that I have setup directly on Diamond2 (mobileme and Gmail)!
It makes me change them but not eliminate completely! How can i do?
I hope in the knowledge of someone who says to me: "use total commander and delete the file xxxxx point!"
In account's options where there is: "Tap an account to change settings", I hold above the account to delete but nothing happens and when I leave it appears a screen which says:
Contents:
Edit Account Settings
Schedule Send / Receive
Download size settings ....
but no reference to cancel account! and below I just choice only Ok or Cancel? Ufffff ..
In the mail tab, I click Menu-> Accounts-> Account.
Selected the account, below there is "Delete" but is gray and not allow me to click!
That's strange!
(On Xperia I can do this but cannot on the Diamond2!! )
I made a typo when addressing an email and that "bad" address keeps popping up when I start a new email. Ho can I remove it? I tried long pressing and hoping for a "delete" button but no luck there.
More info in case that isn't enough of a description: I am running CM7. It happens on all three of my email accounts. I begin to type a new email address in the "To:" line and the address with the typo pops up as a choice along with other "good" addresses.
TIA for any assistance.
Contacts > [specific_name) > menu button > edit > enter correct email address > save
Thanks for trying to help, neidlinger but I do not have any contacts (I know that sounds odd but I don't use my Nook for email very much. I use my phone and desktop (both Windows)
Any other ideas?
How about delete account and re enter?
I have three email accounts on the Nook and when I start a new email in any one of them, the email address with the typo pops up with the "good" email address (I hit a k by mistake after .com one time and the Nook remembers it). I have no names or email addresses in the default contacts app (haven't put any in yet). Does anyone know where the "auto fill" emails are stored on the Nook?
thanks for trying to help, life64x
Sounds like a user dictionary issue. You can find it in settings.
I don't have my nook at the moment, lent it to my other half for the weekend and didn't get it back yet. Muck around in the settings menus until you find it, or someone else comes in to tell you exactly how to get to it.
Sorry I can't be more precise then that.
Thanks for your suggestoin, Blue6IX. I went through the Settings and found "User dictionary" under "Language & Keyboard Settings" but no luck: it says "you do not have any words in the user dictionary".
Any other ideas?
I found an answer after googling various terms. Even though I did not have any contacts on my Nook (nor in my google gmail account). I did have the setting "Sync Gmail" checked in "Accounts & Sync Settings". When I went to my gmail account on my desktop I saw the typo listed not in "My Contacts" but under "Call Phone". I deleted that entry by clicking on "More" then "Contact Details" then "More actions" then "Delete". I synced my Nook (the typo was removed at that point).
Maybe this will help someone else (?)
