I been looking for another clock for my Compact IV, but while still looking for a cool one I noticed this 'trick' (might be people already do....) anyway I thought I share these:
In the Home screen click the little arrow on the bottom (the purple arrow on the Compact IV)
This will show you a simple small digi clock on the top of screen and the calendar entries below. And even if you move around, open/close applications, it seems to always stays on!
Its great as you can see your wallpaper now.
For locking the device I use now the following:
Settings -> Long Press End Key -> Choose Automatially execute -> Lock device.
So pressing the end key for 2secs it locks my phone!

hello all, i have a couple requests (most likely has to do with registry editing)
1: Hide the top bar (time, and stuff)
2: Have a big invisible x button to close programs (no need for stylus)
3: Hide bottom bar (calendar/contacts) but still be able to use the soft keys to access them
thanks a bunch in advanced
nice request
those are some nice request. but if someone even tries to cook this rom then we should think of giving them a donation for their work dont you think?

As taken from my guide:
Can I get rid of the "Contacts / Calendar" bar?
Dcino Bar is a great app to get rid of it. Simply place this app in your Windows/Startup folder, you can download it Here

you can still use the keys on the phone to access the "contacts or calendar"
thx a lot tyler, it worked great, is there anyway to make it invisible for all programs as well?
One of the Rom Cookers need to keep these ideas in mind...
Maybe have a version out which is fully powered by the touch cube and pocketCM default. Its becoming more smoother to use as a regular phone and I can see my calendar on the main screen!!!
i actually prefer a software solution rather than loading a new rom

The author of pocketCM asks that it not be included in ROMs.
Ugh... yes! I want a big x button so I don't have to turn my finger and slide it up in the corner to hit the x.
WM5 on the older PALM devices have the X button moved to the left so it's not up against the edge; can we do that on the thing by editing the registry somehow?

I use FTouchSL to do this. I made the top left active corner a close option so it closes the application thats open. You can set how many pixels it is & the amount of time it takes to activate. It works perfectly

Anybody know of an app for the kaiser that has touch screen functions. Like say you tap the today screen twice in a row it shuts the screen of, or something like that, would be pretty nice. ANy ideas?
wktask has that feature, but its in the upper corner. Preferences -> action -> tap in today -> suspend
i love wktask
Great, thanks i'll look into that. So it's not as easy as tapping directly on the screen? I have to go to specific place? Not just suspend, but can i also launch different programs with different pattern touches?
Well, wktask has many features built in. Its basically a task manager, displays running tasks on the top bar, kind of like a desktop(with icons that you can click on). Its great for switching programs/ closing them all. It also has a program launcher that you can map in the action tab, such as verticle scroll. So thus, most of the actions must be in the top bar.
I see. I like the htc task manager and since that app doesn't really do stuff my touch screen recognition, i'll just stay with the htc one. Thanks a lot though.
Hello everyone, i asked this question in the 'post your today screen' thread but got no answer so will try asking here:
I recently installed the htc home customiser and changed a few things around and generally had a play with it to see what i could create from my today screen. I then decided i was happy with how the original htc one looked so i changed it back. Unfortunately i have a slight problem.
Originally, under the htc home section i had tasks, appointments, tomtom, etc etc showin up and there was a scroll bar on the right hand side that allowed me to scroll down the list, all while keeping htc home in the same position at the top. Now though, i have a scroll bar that extends all the way up the right hand side of the screen whereas before it only went as far as the bottom of htc home. It now covers up part of the date and the sound settings button. When i scroll down my list of shortcuts, it now also scrolls htc home also. (i hope my description makes sense)
It is very annoying and also makes my home screen look ugly. Does anyone know how i can get it back to how it used to be?
thanks very much in advance!
You can fix this by updasting the registry directly. There may be another way, but off the top of my head, I don't know.
Check your entries under the registry item: HKLM/Software/Microsoft/Today/Items
Under there, you will see an entry for every Today plugin you have available in your Today settings window.
Select one and you see it has entries called:
- Enabled
- Flag
- Order
- Selectability
- Type
under each one.
- Enabled denotes if its checked for your Today screen (1 is on, 0 is off)
- Order denotes the sequence it is on the Today screen. The lower the number the higher on the screen, so usually, HTCHome is the lowest enabled since it at the top.
- Type denotes whether it is one that is "movable" or not.
Type is the one that you need to modify. Type can be 0 (moveable) or 5 (non-movable). Type 0 ones can be moved up and down in the Today settings screen, where as Type 5 ones cannot.
The issue is that if the Today screen content is too much to fit on the screen, it auto adds the scroll bar. BUT it will only make the part of the screen occupied by movable activated plugins scrollable.
Before you customized, it HTCHome was likely a Type 5, and it was Order 1 (or something low since its at top). And all others were Type 0. Thus the scrollable section DIDNT include the HTC Home. Somehow, your HTCHome type is now 0, so it is scrolling along with everything else.
Hope this helps. Of course, manually modifying the registry has inherent danges, so be careful, and I take no responsibility if you mess up (disclaimer ).
This might be configurable and modifiable via HTC HOME Customizer app itself, but not sure...I just know the above is how I would fix it if I needed to.
Cheers for that mate, i will have a look tomorrow and see if i can sort it out.
in the home customizer go to the "options" tab and check "Lock plugin on the today screen" ... this will solve your problem!
Today screen keeps scrolling up
I don't know if this is the right post to ask, but you guys seemed pretty knowledgeable about today screen...
What happens is that whenever I scroll down (with the scroll bar) my today screen, it keeps scrolling back up to beginning screen automatically.
Only way to avoid this is to scroll all the way to the bottom and then it stops there. Then I can scroll up to see my today plugins which are in the middle (e.g. if you can scroll 4 times down - 4 screens of plugins - and I want to see my plugins which are 1 screen down the initial today screen, I have to tap all the way down and then tap up 2 times to see the plugins I should have seen tapping just 1 time).
This is so annoying. I would appreciate any help. Thanks.

This is for mbernstein:
You hijacked the thread but since the op had his issue resolved I can offer you just a little input. I had the same problem you mention. It started after I installed a few SPB programs. I'm not sure if it was the Pocket Plus, Mobile Shell, or something else but it was definately an SPB proggie. Once I uninstalled the programs the issue went away. I'm disappointed because they are good softwares.
Thanks. This should be the case. But it is a shame as Spb softs are quite good (otherwise).
Yes, I unchecked SPB today plugins and it took a long time (right one) for the screen to go "home". thanks.
Guys,
on the open home screen the two tabs at the side, one to store fav apps the one on the left when I click it just takes me to google search widget.
Is there a way to change this or is this just how it is.
Seems pointless having this and the google search widget as part of the skin too.
Not quite unerstanding what you mean. Are you talking about the little tabs either side of the bigger phone button at the bottom left and right of the screen?
If so the one of the left with the up arrow inside a circle goes to a list of all of your apps (not just your favourites). the one on the right with a + sign is for adding widgets or shortcuts to the screen you are in.
He's talking about the pull-out drawer and button at the bottom of openhome.
They can be turned off in the OpenHome settings, IIRC (menu > more > OpenHome settings), Though I can't check as I no longer use openhome.

Hi,
Thanks for response, I managed to work it out in the end last night.
I'm having a lot of force closing and some random rebooting though with Open Home and not sure why. Any suggestions? - it's happened on the older version and now the newer one.
Today I bought the HTC One with the surprise that it doesn't have a dedicated menu button. I am guessing that sometime in the future this will get remedied somehow, but in the meantime is there a workaround for this?
For example, on my previous HTC Desire phone, I was using Launcher8 as my main launcher however to edit its settings I'd need to press the menu button and then press settings.
Without a dedicated menu button, I can't find anyway to change its settings. So is there any way to get around this? or will I need to root my phone and install a new ROM for this? (which I don't want to do at the moment in case I void my warranty).
look for three dots in a line going downward on the screen, press that for the menu, there is no dedicated hard menu button
John.

Yeah I saw the menu icon in some apps, but I tried it on Launcher8 and the only way to access the settings was from the homescreen itself. There are no menu icons to press to get the settings as far as I am seeing.
EDIT: Actually, nevermind. I found that I can make an icon for it.
This will be fixed when HTC finally delivers 4.2.2. The leaked versions let you assign holding down the home button for settings. They should have done it like this in the first place. The 3 dots thing looks hideous.
