Hi there,
I have recently dropped my HTC Touch Diamond, with no other side effects than the power button not functioning anymore. I've checked it and saw the button works with a small elastic attached underneath it that presses against an internal button. I'm planning on opening the inside as I have no hopes for any type of warranty, is there anything I should look out for or watch out with?
Other than that the phone works correctly but the only way to get it started is by removing and putting the battery back in while it's in the charger.
Thanks in advance,

I dropped my phone yesterday, and the power button doesn't do anything now. It doesn't seem to move much, either. I popped a little of it out using the stylus, and couldn't find any wires so I don't think there's a solution. The button itself seems fine, but I think it got dislodged a bit from whatever mechanism (spring or latch) that tells it to turn on or w/e. Looks impossible to open up the device. (don't see any screws. looks soldered in)
Anyway, the phone itself works. I resetted it and it'll load up Android fine. I just can't get into Android because you need to press the power button to get out of the standby screen.
Is there any way I could
a) assign a new button in Android (say the center button?)
b) fix the button (or if I brought it to a Sprint store would it cost less than the phone? ($60))
c) get rid of Android and go to Windows without using the power button (power+reset code)
Thanks for the help!

There are 4 Torx screws (1 under the warranty void sticker) essentially at every corner, so if you get a small enough torx screwdriver you can open it up
Here is a guide albeit in Russian, but the pictures are self explanatory

Is there any way I can reassign the button to the Back button or something? I need a quick fix so I can use the phone now for calling. Its probably built on to the motherboard because there's no wiring from the looks of it. Not sure where to find such a screwdriver, but I'll look into it.
I had a similar problem with my camera (back) button. It was a fairly easy fix. You will need a tiny Torx to get it open. There is a complete teardown thread on this site to help guide it. Once I had the right Torx driver, it took a few minutes. The switches are surface mounted and are held in place with clips. I had to bend the clips back into place and then reflow the solder joints with a soldering iron. I dropped some solder onto the clips to hold them together.
I tried to roll an alternate ROM with different key assignments...the build process is not well documented, IMO. I asked and was basically told to go make friends with a developer.
Hello Guys,
My nexus one's power button doesn't work after using a body protector, when i wanted to push the power button i had to push it hard and after 1 month i took it off from my nexus, and i could use power button but i had noticed that it needs to be pushed hard, and now it is not working at all, unfortunately in my country there is no google service for nexus, but hTC does some services here,i think it's the flat thing of my power button because when i push the buttton it reacts(the Spring of button reacts)but i don't get any digital reactions.
Please help me and show me a Way!
If you get tactile feedback then the plastic button itself is intact. Therefore it sounds like a problem with either the logic board or the flex/power button connection. Unfortunately it's much cheaper and easier to replace the plastic power button than the logic board (Assuming HTC chooses to replace the whole logic board and not just that one connection). You can replace it yourself but it will Void your warranty and can be a little tricky.
Ive got the same problem, i also can't get mine fixed by HTC in my country. And ive taken it to a few places in the city who can't fix it.
Right now im relying on trackball wake to turn the screen on, and screen off and lock app to turn it off. and hope they work until i upgrade.
And if you do run out of battery and need to turn the phone back on, plug it into usb power, and pull the battery a couple of times until the yellow LED turns off, and the phone will boot.
Thanks guys i found someone who had a TOTTALY broken nexus one and he was selling it's spare parts,an i bought the whole logic board from him and it cost me 95$ but think it worth it ! Because in my country you can't buy your cellphone with your simcard contract and i bought my nexus one 750$ and if i decided to throw my nexus away i had to forget 750$!,also i found anotherway for fixing an i think it's cool for you guys to know, you can bridge the your power button's broken logic place and your main logic board with a wire and then you can use your power button like before!
Thought I'd share this with you guys.. it is already mentioned somewhere else in the forum but it's buried in a long thread somewhere, very hard to find.
Recently I started having a problem with my N7000. The power button was not working properly. Only the faintest of touches, would result in the phone turning off. Sometimes, the button didn't work at all. Also, the phone rebooted itself several times a day...
For me anyway, it was simply dust/dirt around the power button.
1) remove back cover, then use a jewelry screwdriver to take out 9 screws. Then unclip the phone from the frame. To unclip the frame, take a look at how it's done in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N6CJy71_9Ok (1:52 mark)
2) wipe away the visible dirt/dust, and blow hard around the power button, volume button and usb port...
3) reassemble.
Hopefully, like mine, your N7000's power button is now functioning again. :fingers-crossed:
Hi
Iv had my Xperia x1 about a year now. The phone works fine. The only issues I've had are that the speaker grill on the bottom and the silver ring around the power button fell off. However these were not major problems for me as I don't use the waterproof features of the phone so I've left them as is.
However today my power button has been playing up. If I touch the button, without pressing it, the button acts as if it's been pressed and locks the phone. If I keep my finger on it the phone turns on. The button works fine while pressing it too and the phone is working perfectly fine aswell. It's just this touchscreen button issue. Iv Googled it and most power button problems for the z1 seem to be related to it not working etc however mine works fine.. It works too well actually.
I was thinking maybe the part is loose and needs replacing.
Would replacing the power button fix this and does anybody have any idea what's going on /what I should do?
Thanks
hello friends, today dropped my droid turbo, after that it seems that power button is little bit fell in, so it's harder to press on it, it's no more like volume button (no click effect), but it steel works, so is there some solution to fix it without disassembling whole device? thanks

I have a not-quite-so similar issue; I dropped mine a couple of weeks ago, with a Diztronic case on it, and it landed on a brick walkway directly on the power button completely disabling any function whatsoever to the power button. I thought about opening the back of the phone and trying to replace the button with one from a previous busted quark that I still have. But instead, I have gotten by without it by using Lock Screen Widget (free from Google Play, along with other similar apps), which can place a button on the screen, either permanently or on Home screen only, to turn the screen off.
Now, to turn the screen on, Ambient Display has proven to be invaluable, plus in the Button settings of the Bliss (@NepoRood) custom rom I'm using, there is a selection to wake the phone using the volume button and I have it set to wake when it's plugged into a charger / PC. If you're not using Bliss, I'm pretty sure other custom roms have these wake features; if you have unlocked bootloader and root access, the Xposed module Gravity Box may be able to enable this as well. However, if your phone isn't rooted, I'm not sure if this wake feature would be available.
I know this may not directly answer your question, it's just what I've been using to get by. I am curious though if anyone else has had success personally replacing or repairing the power button.

A few months after I got my original Droid Turbo the power button failed. Wouldn't turn it on or off. Physically had a problem. They told me that there is an issue with their power buttons and when it gets like that they have to replace the button.
However, perhaps you do have something as simple as a dented case/cover in the metal by the button which is restricting the button from functioning as normal. If you have something small and thin like an intricate pick tool, you might be able to get down in there a little bit and see if you can go all the way around the button. If it sticks or stops, that might be a dented area.
