Hello Guys,
My nexus one's power button doesn't work after using a body protector, when i wanted to push the power button i had to push it hard and after 1 month i took it off from my nexus, and i could use power button but i had noticed that it needs to be pushed hard, and now it is not working at all, unfortunately in my country there is no google service for nexus, but hTC does some services here,i think it's the flat thing of my power button because when i push the buttton it reacts(the Spring of button reacts)but i don't get any digital reactions.
Please help me and show me a Way!
If you get tactile feedback then the plastic button itself is intact. Therefore it sounds like a problem with either the logic board or the flex/power button connection. Unfortunately it's much cheaper and easier to replace the plastic power button than the logic board (Assuming HTC chooses to replace the whole logic board and not just that one connection). You can replace it yourself but it will Void your warranty and can be a little tricky.
Ive got the same problem, i also can't get mine fixed by HTC in my country. And ive taken it to a few places in the city who can't fix it.
Right now im relying on trackball wake to turn the screen on, and screen off and lock app to turn it off. and hope they work until i upgrade.
And if you do run out of battery and need to turn the phone back on, plug it into usb power, and pull the battery a couple of times until the yellow LED turns off, and the phone will boot.
Thanks guys i found someone who had a TOTTALY broken nexus one and he was selling it's spare parts,an i bought the whole logic board from him and it cost me 95$ but think it worth it ! Because in my country you can't buy your cellphone with your simcard contract and i bought my nexus one 750$ and if i decided to throw my nexus away i had to forget 750$!,also i found anotherway for fixing an i think it's cool for you guys to know, you can bridge the your power button's broken logic place and your main logic board with a wire and then you can use your power button like before!

I have read many threads about the issues that the Nexus One has with the power button. I feel that my situation is a little different, so I wanted some opinions on this. My power button is completely unresponsive. I can't use it to turn the phone on, wake or lock my screen when the phone is on, etc. My phone has an unlocked bootloader and is rooted. I am currently using the track ball to wake my phone, so I'm not having any real issues with day to day operations of my phone. I was completely convinced this was a hardware issue (and still am), but I wanted to be 100% sure it was a hardware issue before contacting HTC. I downloaded Quick Boot from the android market which allows you to reboot your phone, boot your phone into your Bootloader, and boot your phone into Recovery. I decided to boot my phone into Bootloader mode to see if the power button would work there. The power button didn't work in the Bootloader, but neither did the volume button (prior to this test, I had no issues with the volume rocker at all). I pulled the battery and let the phone boot up to check and make sure the volume button was still working when the phone was running. Once the phone was booted up, I had no issues with the volume controls. My question is why would the volume rocker not work in the Bootloader? Also, could the issue that prevents the volume rocker from working in the Bootloader be preventing the power switch from working while the phone is booted up? If there is a chance that it's a software issue, how would I test/correct the issue? Thanks your help.
Most people I have seen complain about that problem, send the phone back for a free repair because it's a hardware problem.
The best way to test it is to flash a stock rom.
Thank you, I will try reflashing the FRF91 stock firmware and see what happens. Thanks.
Definatly sounds like the power button is broken. I had one like that. Send it back for a repair/replacement.
I've checked my immediate suspicion, and it turned out to be correct - so I'm posting the result:
Your power button is actually stuck in "ON" position (pressed).
Anyone can test it, press the power button to wake up the screen, keep it pressed, every operation is allowed in the system and volume buttons work. But when you reboot and try the same in bootloader, having power button ON disables the rest of the buttons.
My screen doesn't wake when I press the power button. Any other ways to check if it's stuck in the "ON" position?
It's 100% determined by your description. The only other check would be running any kind of SW that shows the current key states, and I'm not aware of any such SW.
I've posted the checking procedure for people with working power buttons, so they can verify the findings.
Any way to fix the issue?
If you're technically inclined and can't use warranty, I suppose that getting to the power button and repairing/replacing it wouldn't be very difficult. But no other way I can think of.
has anyone tried to repair this?

A DIY can not be too difficult and you may be best to search YouTube. It can not be too terribly difficult as long as you can open it up and remove any connecting ribbons (I've had to replace my girlfriends iPhone digitizer due to phone falling out of back pocket onto concrete from three+ feet up). As long as you can open it, you're fine. Just going to need to re-seat the button. Good luck!
Greetings,
I had the same power button issue. I was able to wake my phone using the usb cable whenever the screen timed out but otherwise the phone worked 100% of the time in all ways. I got an RMA and label and shot the phone to them in an anti-static wrap with 4 inches of bubble wrap on all sides and foam padding on top of that. The phone was in perfect condition. Well to cut to the chase. I got a quote of 196.00 because they said there was water damage!? I treated that phone better than I treat my own body! There was no water damage when I sent it in. So one of their folks send me images of a phone that has a broken screen, water damage in the base usb port and no inscription. Interestingly all of the angles avoided showing the ein or s/n. My phone has a laser etched inscription with my name and a couple of bible verses. So what am I supposed to do here? Pay another 196 for an 800 dollar phone that had nothing wrong but a power switch? I am a T-Mobile customer and an Android developer in good standing. What the heck!? Can anyone give me a suggestion on how to get this squared away? My only other option is to send them $28 to get the phone back with the same power button issue. It's even under warranty until Jan 28th.

Does anyone know if htc india supports the nexus one for after sales service
So I've fallen prey to the broken power button issue, and HTC is letting me swap for a new N1, which is great, but this seems to me like kicking the can down the road.
What I mean is: eventually, my N1 will be out of warranty, and since the power button issue is a design flaw, the issue seems likely to recur. At some point, the button will break when I'm out of warranty, and then I'm stuck with a phone that won't turn on, necessitating a not-very-pleasing cash outlay either on repair or replacement.
This is pretty dissatisfying. My question is: What should I do when this happens? Or should I being doing something now to foreclose this possibility? Sell the new N1, perhaps, and wait for the N2/S?
I haven't been using the power button for a month now!
You can install Cyanogen's latest and greatest ROM and use the Notification Toolbar widget to make the phone sleep and use the trackball wake feature to wake the phone!
Very great combination ^^
I've a very faulty power button but a combo of trackball wake and any number of locking widgets/shortcuts (I use LockscreenWidget) has solved any problems I've had. Oh and your power button may not be broken but rather 'Out of place'. The actual button itself (Not the one you press) is very small and can be knocked out of place, a small bit of DIY can fix this though.
My power button wasn't working, I called HTC and they fixed the issue within 2 days. I was satisfied with their quick service

Check this out from Android Guys.
Manage a Nexus One with Broken Power Button [Updated]
Man this is essential info for N1 owners.
Or just have HTC swap it out. They do repair/replace this issue most times with no hassel.
As far as the long term, I plan to have mine repaired then I'm going to sale it for funds towards the Nexus S
I had the same power button problem with my Nexus, I chose the swap option, my bootloader was unlocked and i was slammed with a $196.00 charge for an allegedly "broken USB port" that was working fine until they received it. and that was considered out of warranty damage. **** HTC never will I purchase one of their devices! Horrible customer service.
HI there!

I have the same issue with my SXL and here is what I do ..
1. Use CWM Recovery (Search the forums) - it will switch on your phone on connecting it to with a charger/USB cable. This comes in handy if I remove the battery and since the power button does not work at all, I cannot power on the phone in any other way. Once I plug in my switched off SXL, CWM Recovery starts up the phone and I get to reboot it from Recovery.
2. USe a custom ROM (I would recommend CodeFireX from Anders if you like 4.2.2 or RunnyKitKat from Onejay for 4.4.2) and under settings get the volume to wake feature turned on. Now you can wake the phone screen using the volume buttons.
3. Get an app from the Play Store - "Reboot Menu widget", which becomes a soft menu button to reboot or shutdown, or take a screen shot or to simply close down the screen...
I couldn't get my power button fixed as the device was out of warranty and I did not want to spend the exorbitant prices these guys were asking. So that's what anyone with a broken power button can do.. Hope this helps

Hi
Power button and volume buttons are identical with buttons used for HD2.
HD2 buttons are attachable, there is 5 of them and they are very cheap.
Get them and find someone with soldering gun with thin tip (for smd) who could solder them for you.

Cool thanks for telling that, now i just got to find someone with an HD2 LOL.
90% of people i know have iphones, so thats going to be hard :fingers-crossed:
Search for some combination of these words on ebay and replace the main board. It's usually the little micro-switch that's gone so replacing the plastic button doesn't do anything.

Button is located (soldered) on the board and is covered with protective tape.
When broken usually only plastic body stays on board. Transparent cover (with black dot) and micro disk comes off and for that reason button does not work. Whole plastic button needs to be unsoldered and replaced.
I attached picture of HD2 buttons which you can buy i.e on ebay.
I did it twice (first time with volume then with power button) and it costs nothing.
Replacing whole board is quite expensive and unnecessary - in my opinion.
I picked up a Nexus One off of swappa, with the power button issue. Thinking it was the flex cable issue, I ordered a replacement off of eBay (it was new). Got it installed, and the power button still doesn't work. But when I was disassembling the phone, I noticed the external power button did not have much travel in it, and didn't offer much in the way of "clicky-ness" for lack of a better word. Plus, only one side of the button would stay in the housing when the phone was disassembled. That leads me to think the button itself is the issue. Searching for replacement parts does not yield a supply of buttons. I'm sure there's one out there somewhere. I can still turn it on via the "plug in, take out battery, wait for led light to go out, put battery back in" method, but I'd like to have it just work like it's supposed to. I'm hoping the internet can come through for me here. Thanks.
I know there is an app that let you use the search button and the trackball to turn off and on your screen

hello friends, today dropped my droid turbo, after that it seems that power button is little bit fell in, so it's harder to press on it, it's no more like volume button (no click effect), but it steel works, so is there some solution to fix it without disassembling whole device? thanks

I have a not-quite-so similar issue; I dropped mine a couple of weeks ago, with a Diztronic case on it, and it landed on a brick walkway directly on the power button completely disabling any function whatsoever to the power button. I thought about opening the back of the phone and trying to replace the button with one from a previous busted quark that I still have. But instead, I have gotten by without it by using Lock Screen Widget (free from Google Play, along with other similar apps), which can place a button on the screen, either permanently or on Home screen only, to turn the screen off.
Now, to turn the screen on, Ambient Display has proven to be invaluable, plus in the Button settings of the Bliss (@NepoRood) custom rom I'm using, there is a selection to wake the phone using the volume button and I have it set to wake when it's plugged into a charger / PC. If you're not using Bliss, I'm pretty sure other custom roms have these wake features; if you have unlocked bootloader and root access, the Xposed module Gravity Box may be able to enable this as well. However, if your phone isn't rooted, I'm not sure if this wake feature would be available.
I know this may not directly answer your question, it's just what I've been using to get by. I am curious though if anyone else has had success personally replacing or repairing the power button.

A few months after I got my original Droid Turbo the power button failed. Wouldn't turn it on or off. Physically had a problem. They told me that there is an issue with their power buttons and when it gets like that they have to replace the button.
However, perhaps you do have something as simple as a dented case/cover in the metal by the button which is restricting the button from functioning as normal. If you have something small and thin like an intricate pick tool, you might be able to get down in there a little bit and see if you can go all the way around the button. If it sticks or stops, that might be a dented area.
