I have been playing with my diamond and now that I know what programs I want to run - decided to reset my to factory defaults and install only the programs I want.
I reformatted all memory (4gig and system) and everything was back to normal sprint as I recieved it.
I started installing the apps I wanted, and realised that I no longer had the option of installing to the 4 gig area. (even though that is where I was running the cab from.)
The memory is there and appears to be fine, but anytime I install something, it installs to the internal memory and never gives me the options of where to install it.
Anyone have any idea what I have done to mess this up? Was working fine before the reset and as I said, I can still see the internal storage (and run the .cab files from there) Even the programs I had installed to internal memory before, no longer give me that option. I am lost as to what to do.
Thanks,
Michael
Since you just reformatted I'd try another hard reset and see if you don't get a better first load.

Tried a hard reset and reformatting the data (not at the same time) and still the same issue. When I install a program, it installs straight to the internal memory and I do not have a choice to load it anywhere else.
Any other suggestions?
Just got off the phone with HTC and it is a known issue with some phones after reformatting internal memory.
Basically issue was proven out by going to windows - setttings - Programs - Memory and looking at the Storage Card tab and there was no card installed....
Solution is to reformat the internal storage with your computer. (hook up the phone to the computer and select "hard drive" rather than "ActiveSync", right click on the drive letter that appears and select Format.
Problem was that with my XP machine it was like trying to format a floppy drive without a disk in the drive. (just kept locking up and giving me errors) My wifes Vista machine was able to format it just fine. (BTW - quick format will not work and you want to format it as FAT32)
I am now back in business.... HTC tech support was great and got my issue resolved for me.

Does anyone know how to retrieve items accidentally deleted from a SD Card because of a hard reset? I had so many photos and I would like to see if I can get them back.
You'll hav to get a 3rd party application to do it and you're not promised to get them back. It scans the whole card and just takes forever.

a Hard reset would not delete files on your SD card. You must have had the photos saved to your phone memory.

I thought that it wouldn't erase them either. I have done hard resets before and my items were never erased before. I made sure everything I wanted to keep was on the memory card for this reason. But for some reason this time it erased everything. I guess this was one of those freak accidents. This is why I am asking for help.
I appreciate any help on this issue.
You did something wrong then because there's no logical way they could've erased that way. On the other side, you should have followed flashing procedures by removing the memory card and sim
Your so right, kareem9nba. I should have known better. Thank you for your help.
This is why every week, I copy all the contents of my SD card (where I keep everything) To my Desktop PC in a folder I call "SDBackup" I've working with Computer long enough to know, if you don't have a backup, you are asking for trouble.
People call this Murphy's Law.
I had an issue similar to this that scared the crap out of me.
I took my SD card out of my phone, powered off beforehand, and then loaded it into my speedy microSD adapter so I could copy lots of data from my computer to it. Upon inserting the card into my monitor's SD reader, Vista gave me to "You must format this card before it can be used" message.
It took 3 removals and reinsertions to get my PC and my Tilt to see the files again. I promptly backed up my files and did a full format on my storage card. Everything's been fine since.
Im a little more paranoid and do it at least once every couple of days, just because Im on the forum alot and frequently see horror stories where people end up losing alot of their stuff.
Active File Recovery 7.3 Build 101
Very Interesting Question that made me perform a new expirement
to answer your question directly best thing is to use a 3rd party application called Active File Recovery 7.3 Build 101 it will recover data even after format or delete by mistake.
but in your case its not necessary - hard reset only delete internal storge (sd card data is intact)
i did an expirement ( i stored photos and documents in my phone) and i performed a hard reset... i used Active File Recovery 7.3 Build 101 and guess what i managed to retrieve the TOC of my INTERNAL STOREAGE but not the files... but i guess if i looked for a more powerful application i could retrieve the files themselves
i flashed new rom and used Active File Recovery 7.3 Build 101 (resulting 0 files or 0 TOC to retrieve)
conclusion of my experiment that may not relate 100% with your question is if you hard rest (some of your data can be retireved) if you flash new rom or reflash a rom (0 data can be accessed) using commercial softwares
best luck and look for our experts comments

Allready tried to reformat it from the diamond? If this not work, perhaps this tool can help: http://flash-format.en.softonic.com/pocketpc
If both fails it is really dangerous to have a corrupt file-system on the diamond.

I traied to format whith the diamond but it says that its missing nand flash?
Take a look, if the internal storage has the same name as before. If not, perhaps you can rename it from the pc via active-sync. Good luck!
Nobody else with an idea about this? If nothing works for the threadstarter, this means: as soon as the FAT of your internal storage gets corrupt, (whyever) you have bricked your device more or less, (at least reduced the memory to a laughable tiny amount).
If this is the case, it can only be a very, very bad joke of HTC. It's like you have a big button in Windows Vista wich destroys your harddisk and nowhere is a warning sign or a safety-mechanism - that can't be true, or? (Its not a good example, cause you can exchange a PC's harddisk).
I think there are a lot of reasons, why a FAT can get corupted. (Tools on the PDA, sudden power-loss) and I'am wondering if no one here is a little bit concerned about this.
I've used the 2GB SD-card in my last PDA over a long period and during this, it was several times corrupted, so that I had to reformat it.
In the German PPC-Welt forum someone has posted the same issue, he returned his device, but this is only possible in the first two weeks, at least in Germany.
1. When you hard reset you have the option to format Internal Storage.
2. You have the option to format Internal Storage in Clear Storage in settings.

He can only format the storage, if it is found by the device. Obviousley this is not the case. Perhaps renaming helps. In this (German) thread, the same problem has been discussed: http://www.ppc-welt.info/community/showthread.php?t=133023&highlight=fat32
Finaly ther user in this thread was able to format the storage but it was still not correctly recognized by his apps.
I hope the creator of this thread has more luck.
Hello everyone. I have discovered a strange problem on my Diamond. When I try to transfer something to Internal Storage from the PC (a MP3 file , for example - a very small one) I get the "NOT ENOUGHT STORAGE SPACE" error on my device.
I have checked the properties in the Diamond, and apparently the 4GB disk drive is recognized properly (i have 3 gb of memory free).
I tried to flash another stock WM 6.1 ROM and a hard reset, with the stylus, but no luck.
Do you know what could be wrong ? And how can i fix it. Thanks!
nobody ? its very annoying, because i cannot transfer anything to my device.
have you tried on another computer ?
also try hard resetting along with formatting your internal storage aswell....you get an option for that in the hardreset menu.
or u can go to the settings and format your internal storage from there
just try
thanks for your reply.
i tried on 2 computers, but same thing happened.
i will give it a try with the internal storage format, and later today i will post the results. thanks!
clear your browser cache, cookes, and history. Fixed my low storage memory problem.
Help! My Kaiser can't read my memory card!
After having transferred a few media files to my Kaiser's microSD card using Activesync's "explore" function, I noticed some folders with gibberish names had been generated in the My Documents folder. I tried opening some of them and found nothing in them. I dismissed this and continued with the file transfer. The strangely-named files eventually disappeared
Shortly after, I disconnected the Kaiser from my laptop, and started the Audio Manager, as I was on my way to the gym. An error message popped up saying the "file Audio Manager cannot be opened..."
I can't remember what prompted me to do so, but I opened the File Manager and discovered that my Storage Card was not registering anymore. That said, I had to settle with the gym's crappy music, instead of my the playlists on my Kaiser
Coming back from the gym I popped the memory card (2GB Kingston microSD) into my card reader and my laptop was able to read all its contents.
This morning I tried a friend's microSD card (same make & model) and my Kaiser still couldn't read it.
Is this a hardware or software problem? If the latter, how can I rectify this?
Thanks in advance for any input.
Put it in your computer's card reader and do a filesystem check.

Watch out because Kaisers are well known for loosing whats on a microSD card (I've had this happen 3 times now) so I hope you have backed up everything of importance on your card before going any further.

I cant help with changing the gyms music but when you say "wasn't registering anymore" do you mean no files were showing in file manager (ie possibly corrupted/lost files - you never mentioned if you checked the file integrity on your laptop) or that under settings => memory => storage card tab, nothing is showing (whats in there)?

If it's software try a soft reset and if that doesn't fix it then back up your data and perform a hard reset (make sure the card is out of the device when you do this) - this is the Windows Mobile equivalent of running a recovery CDROM on a desktop PC and it will restore your devices files and settings to an 'as from the factory' state (assuming you've not changed the ROM/Radio or SPL since). Let us know how you get on.

It's easier than that... If you have Win XP (and probably Vista has an equivalent option), there is an often under utilised program under Start => Accessories => System Tools called 'Backup'. If you put your microSD card into it's USB reader, this program will do everything you need and it's very simple to use.

As already suggested by khaytsus, that'd be a good idea to try before going down the last ditch hard reset route.

Interesting... thanks for this. There aren't really any critical files in my memory card, so a simple copy of whatever's in the My Documents folder will do.

The advantage with using backup is it automatically throws it all into a simple single archive and saves things such as the label on your card but yes if you have a simple set up a straight copy is an option. Bottom line is that additional software isn't needed for microSD card backups.

I tested a friend's card from his TyTN II and put it into my phone and there was still no memory card detected. I gave him my card, and his phone was able to detect it.
I finally did a hard reset, reformatted my card, and the phone still can't detect the card!
It seems the problem may well be hardware-related. Looks like I'll have to send my phone in to HTC to be checked.
Thanks again to everyone who chimed in. 'will still give an update on how things go.

Got my unit back from the HTC service centre. They had to replace the part that contacts the memory card. The old one was toast. And to think I've only had this phone for just over a year now.
Had to pay about USD120 for the part
i've had my memory card not read all the files on it two times now but recently i've kept the file heirarchy intact and havent made any new folders on the phone and it seems to be ok
I am a serial flasher(!). Up until yesterday my latest ROM was dutty 3.3. All was working fine.
I flashed 3.4 (running BLAC_USPL.EXE) the storage card way, putting the storage card in once I was in bootloader mode etc. ROM loaded fine, but ever since then, manilla wont recognizre my photos, and is giving me a hard time on music.
In addition, without the storage card inserted, device runs MUCH faster than when it is inserted. i thought it was a problem with the 16Gig card, so I reformatted it and reloaded my data (which I can see on file explorer). SAME problem: Manilla wont load pictures and device slow.
I tried 3 other ROMS, including going back to Dutty 3.3. SAME problem: Manilla wont load pictures and device slow
I tried another storage card, this time a 6gb wich has always been flawless. formatted once on the device. formatted anpther time on a PC. SAME problem: Manilla wont load pictures and device slow.
Im going crazy. Can anyone offer some advice?
i don't know if the File System can make any differance, but try multiple types, format it once in FAT32 and test, then NTFS and Test.
maybe one of them is slow!
let us know how it goes
cheers
OK will try. thing is that the machine just gets slower and slower, as if some major process is running in the background. Ideas?
..and its a problem that never occured in the past.
I know it's a long shot but has any "crud" built up in the microsd card slot. If you've eliminated the sd card it's self and everything is fine without the card sound sounds like it's the slot it's self.
had same problem, reformating complately SD card helped me, try formating it again dont use quick format option.
hope that's gonna help you.
cheers
i figured it may possibly be a corrupt file in my DCIM (pictures) folder which stopped manilla reading the folder and kept it busy scanning the folder (hence machine slowwwwwwwwwwwdown), so renamed it, and the problem has gone. Odd, as I can read all the pictures on my PC.
thnaks for all comments

as opposed to the SD method? It may be that entering the card during the process (as outlined by Dutty et al) can cause other files to get corrupted...?
try hard reset after rom flashing.
