Hopefully someone may have encountered this before and have a quick solution. I recently installed the Resco Keyboard and since then when ever I select Start -> Settings it causes the phone to soft reset.
I have tried moving the Resco Keyboard folder to another name, but the keyboard is still loaded at startup and I can't remove it because Start -> Settings causes the reset.
I have searched for simlar threads, however have been unsuccessful in finding a solution, if I have missed it, please point me towards the correct thread.
Thanks!
I have had a problem with Resco KB before, but not like yours..
the kb was really buggy, so I uninstalled it.. but the kb icon won't go from the kb menu...
I had to dig through the registry and delete any entry that had to do with Resco kb...
I would suggest that you do the same.
another thing might help: try opening the notes and choose the default kb, then try to go to the settings menu.
you might also try Tweaks2k2 (or any similar program) to set your default kb to something else but Resco keyboard.
cheers
Connect the phone to the PC, and uninstall Resco KB from the menu in activesync?
Maybe a simple solution
Just go to start -->programs --> file explorer
Navigate to /windows/startup and delete the resco command from the startup process. Hopefully this helps ya
Thanks for your suggestions, I have managed to get rid of Resco, which I was sure was the issue...
Unfortunately this hasn't resolved the reboot issue when clicking on start -> settings.
If anyone else has a suggestion for fixing this it would be much appreciated!
Thanks for your help...
Well, if you can access the device, i would now back up all of your data and perform a hard reset. Too much trouble trying to narrow the issue down. Sounds like something in the registry was damaged.
Unfortunately this sounds like what I am going to have to do...
Guess I'm in for a busy night fixing up my PDA and loading 1 app at a time to make sure this issue doesn't return!!
thanks for the suggestions everyone, it is much appreciated.

Hi guys, I am having some little problems with my Xda2i as following.
1. I use button lock to stop using the camera button (as I always accidentally touch it then camera starts, many time I open camera without notice for long time till my battery almost gone!!) Every time I soft reset, it always turn to defalut mode.
2. Also the same happen with "today". I show some items such as Worldmate. When soft reset, it disappears (though I ticked to show it always)
3. Favorites network also the same, ticked it then changed after reset.
Could anybody please help me?.
Many many thanks in advance..
do what i have done removed the camera from my start up prgrams and allocated the button to none that way it can't activate
as for the others i'm not to sure ,i'm sure some1 else will be able to help
Sounds like somehow the registry has become read only. Have a look in the startup folder and see if there any programs in there that shouldn't be running. Also has this started after some program has been installed?
Hi Pug, checked my startup and found below program lists
-camera_detect
-checkautorun
-clear_notify
-IA_CID_start
-PHM Traylaunch
-PhotocontactPro
-Pocketnavy
-poutlook
-RunBT
-spb GPRS monitor
-STK
It seems like you doubt, it happens after program installation.
Any more advice?
Many many thanks
I don't doubt you at all, just trying to help you solve this.
PHM hasn't got a registry restore feature has it? If it has try disabling it. I don't use it so I don't know.
Don't know what that Pocket Navy is so can't comment on that.
If you delete Camera_Detect you can assign the camera button to something else if you want and the button assignment will survive a soft reset.
Sorry for my aweful english, Pug.
This problem wa before PHM installed, it should be ok (anyway I am not knowledgable to know if it has registry or not. I am too new hands)
Pocketnavy is "CloseAll" I like it more because it has window to see running programs and can select to close which one. THe most important is it free.
I will try to fix it as you recommend. Very appreciated your time to help.
Thanks again
I recently noticed that my screen orientation icon at the bottom of the today screen has disappeared. I tried the registry tips mentioned under services, and the gdi folder, but the icon hasn't come back even after a couple of soft resets. Anyone have any suggestions? I don't want to go through the hassle of a hard reset, especially since I'm moving to another country in a few days.

I have the same problem.
I think it's with the startup programs every boot/soft reset.
The only solution I had was to hard reset, but when I restore my backup it disappears again.
I'm still looking for the program that was installed that somehow overrides the startup service of the rotatescreen.dll
I seem to have fixed it for the time being. I edited showicon to 1 in the HKLM/GDI/Rotation, file -> exit resco file explorer then immediately soft-reseted.
It might have something to do with my uninstalling Skype to install on the SD card though...good luck.
remember seeing someone said it needed to check the registry

Unfortunately I don't have Skype installed...
and I've tried the registry...
so I'm left with finding out which program I've installed is the culprit for overriding the startup of the screen rotate icon service...
as of now, I've somehow learned to live with it not there...
Have you tried both locations in the registry? Set hideUI to 0, and showicon to 1. then immediately exit your registry program after affecting the changes, and soft reset, lemme know how it goes
hey guys, as you know, the left soft key is mapped for the calender, and i had no issue with it. i used the program in dutty's #7 rom to change it to something else (htc action button).. however, i decided to change it back to calender, and now every time i try to open the calender through the left soft key i get the following error message:
"The file "HTCCalendar" cannot be opened. either it is not sined with a trusted certificate, or one of its components cannot be found. if the problem persisits, try reinstalling or restoring this file"
whats going on? thanks
omar
Use a registry editor and go to the following key:
Code:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Today\Keys\112
Change the value of "open" from HTCCalendar.exe to calendar.exe - there is no HTC version of the calendar application, but the soft key changer seems to think there is!
Mark.
hey thanks for your help, i did what you said, and now it gives me the same error message but with Calendar instead of HTCCalendar. ha u know whats going on? thanks
Does your registry key look like this?
\windows\LSK\calendar.exe
If so, look in your LSK folder in Windows via Explorer and I'll bet you'll find it's empty. Mine was and I had the same error as you. All I did to fix it was remove the LSK\ from the registry. Soft reset and it should work, mine does.
Yeah...what he said
Sorry, I forgot to say you had to remove the "LSK" bit from the path in the registry key.....it was late and I was tired OK
Hope it's working now!
Mark.
hey guys, worked perfectly, thanks for all ur help!
omar
I just noticed this fix doesn't stick and will be wiped out during a SR. Maybe it's something I've done wrong.
EDIT: Memmaid was causing this problem during a Quick Clean operation.
Hi folks,
Is there a way to remap the soft keys on the Kaiser?
I am sure there is; I would appreciate it if someone explained to me how.
I had to uninstall Pocket Informant and I can't access the original Calendar app on the left soft key!!!
Many thanks,
MAC

SoftKey Changer
There you go.. Install, soft reset, and its under Start -> Settings -> System
I gave it a try but my expectations were that would be what that soft key would be no matter what program I'm in, but that is not the case. I guess I'll use somethign else like AE Button to get teh keys I want.
Thanks for the post though.
[EDIT]
By the way, after uninstalling, the button assignments remain. Interesting.
Yep use AE Button. It's an amazing tool! Although be careful what you change as it can mess up your device used carelessly.

Thanks very much. I will give this a try.
In the meantime I had to restore a previous version from SPB Backup and this got sorted. I have decided not to re-install Pocket Informant 8 as it caused some isues with ringtones and performance.
I put this on my HTC Tilt and it works awesome, exactly what i was looking for to change the two soft keys.
Hi there, hope everyone is well.
I installed the softkey changer cab , and it seemed to install fine. I was able to find it under settings with no problem and set the left softket to 'new sms'. However when I try to actualy use this from the homescreen i get an error message saying:
"The file 'tnsms' cannot be opened. Either it is not signed with a trusted certificate, or one of its components could not be found. If the problem persists try reinstalling or restoring this file."
I have tried reinstalling, but got the same problem. I can still send an sms if I go through contacts, or messaging, but would love to have this as a working softkey as it tends to be the function I use the most.
Other than installing google maps and opera mini, there have been no changes made since I received the phone a few days ago. It is a standard HTC tytn II.
I'm completely new to this, and any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks, James.

This helped:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=357163
Essentially, change the value of the key to /Windows/(your SMS program)
Mine was tmail.exe.
Now I wonder... how do I not go to the messages screen and go directly to a new SMS?
I'm having the same problem on a Tilt.

Thanks for the advice, I will probably give that a go when I've stopped being so scared of changing registry stuff.
I did find another app that does the trick though. Just make sure you add a shortcut to 'new sms' first (bottom option of the config screen), you should then be able to assign this to either softkey.
Works for me, and I'm able to go straight to a new sms from the homescreen.
Hope it helps, all the best.

That's it! *Real* new sms Thanks!
I can't choose my input method anymore. I selected the normal keyboard, and when I click te small arrow to select another method the keyboard just dissapears.
The only way to change it now is to use the program SipChange I found on this board but I would like to know how I can enable the "quick" switching again.
I looked into HKCU\ControlPanel\Sip\AllowChange and the value is "1"
I really don't want to hard-reset because I just spend a whole afternoon configuring my Diamond and installing apps
Good news is that it is definitely a registry issue. I had the same (arrow should activate HTC custom thumb sized menu of SIPs, but does nothing) and a simple registry restore (spb Backup) fixed it. So, no idea what registry key the issue was (also checked AllowChange first) but it's there somewhere...
Not sure what caused it tho; installed TouchPal several tiems, but when I reinstalled after fix it was all good so can't blame TouchPal just yet...
Yeah I don't have a registry backup
For now I'm using sip changer but it's not very easy so I hope I can get it fixed without hard-reset
Anyone? It's starting to get very annoying working like this
This just happend to me too One minute it worked, then it dident.
Anyone have a fix yet?

Don't believe I've changed much on my phone since it was last working correctly.
