Hi Guys.
Ive tried a several things to prevent the screen switching off during any phone-call. I tried:
The registry hack (total commander)
1) HKLM\Drivers\BuiltIn\RIL\BatteryTimeoutInCall set from 5 to 0
2) HKLM\Drivers\BuiltIn\RIL\BatterySuspendTimeoutInCa ll from 5 to 0
3) HKLM\Drivers\BuiltIn\RIL\EnableFastDormandDisplayD uringCall from 1 to 0
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
and i have the Advance configuration tool, where the setting is:
Phone sleep during call: not allowed
fast sleep during call: disabled
more often is it annoying me that the screen turns of, seems that i cannot have the freaking thing to do what I want
Your help is much appreciated !!
Rom: 1.93.404.1
I am using Diamond Tweak 0.5 for this specific setting, and it works a charm
or http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=413798
I have the latest Orange 1.93 ROM, and in a call if the screen goes off, remove the stylus and the screen comes back on and stays on.

Put the stylus back in during the call and the screen drops back into sleep mode according to your power save settings. Pull the stylus back out and the screen comes back on and stays on again.
Neat eh?
gonna try the "solutions" that are mentioned here, keep you posted !
and many thanks for your reply's !

Is there a hack to not have the backlight automatically dim out when screen locking the phone? Any help appreciated on this. Thanks.
Yeah, use search. There's a quick & dirty fix that helps until HTC wakes up. It's in this thread somewhere.
Thanks,
I did search quite a bit. The fix I found was to diable the screen shutting off during a phone call. I haven't been able to find the fix for the backlight dimming out when screen locking the device.
Search
Hmmmm... Sorry you missed it. I went back a couple of pages and found ur answer; there are two:
1) Easiest remains to switch off-on your TyTN II after call. Ur back to normal then.
2) Option is a small app, written by Magxs that wakes the baby up after disconnect. See more here: link.
Hope this is of use.
edit: by the way, this only seems to happen to password protected systems. That is an option - switch off the PW. Lot of us can't due to corporate (exchange or goodlink) security pollicy.
Thanks Nukenine, however, this is not the issue I am questioning. Regarding the issue that you are speaking about, the following is the fix:
Modifying the DWORD stored in:
Code:
\HKLM\Drivers\BuiltIn\RIL\EnableFastDormantDisplayDuringCall
from "1" to "0" will leave the screen on and will fall back to the backlight/power settings
My question is when I key lock my device (the action that we can have on our today screen which says "Device Locked" or "Device Unlocked"), the screen automatically dims out. And when I tap on the screen, it stays dim, it does NOT become bright again. So, I am asking if anyone knows the registry hack on this issue. I hope I clarified what I am trying to find. Thanks again.
Sorry for misunderstanding.
It is a very easy fix.
HKCU\ControlPanel\BackLight\LockLevel\
Change LockLevel to something other than 0. I use 4. The number indicates now many notches you have the slider moved up in the back light control panel.

Hey Jason,
Thanks for the info. However, when I change the number to 4 (I even tried 9), and then I screen lock my device, my original Backlight setting (set to turn off in 30 Seconds) changes to 10 seconds. When I unlock it, go to the backlight settings, change it back to 30 seconds and then lock it, it changes automatically back to 10 seconds. So the hack works, but it gets rid of the backlight settings and changes them to the ones mentioned above.
The more serious issue is when I soft reset the device. It seems that the number I entered into the registry path goes back to the default "0" automatically. I tried this three times and it always goes back to the "0" default, rendering the hack useless.
Any advice?
Thanks again.
Jason, any advice on the above? Is it possible it is because of the registry editor I am using (Resco Registry)?
Sorry it took so ling, been busy.
That is odd.. I guess i hadn't rebooted in some time.. Mine goes back to 0 as well. It doesn't have anything to do with your registry editor. Something is changing it back on boot. Probably one of the HTC services or something. So there may be no good fix for this.. Other than someone writing a program that will change it back after start up.
I don't have my back light ever set to go off after a time.. It seems pointless to me.. Just have the device power off after a time. Saves more power than just dimming the back light.
anyway.. i have not seen the issues you describe with that but i don't have it set that way.

Thanks Jason, I appreciate the reply and feedback.
This is bugging me too. I hope we find a solution for it soon. Is there a place in registry where startup programs can be defined? If yes, is there a silent tool we can use to import a reg file in the background at startup?
Hi all,
i have the Kaiser for a week, and was thinking the batterry autonomy isn't especially amazing..
Then doing some research, i've found out that that despite the backlight setting set to be turned off after 30 sec, it was NOT turned off.
Switching setting to 1 min doesn't help either.
Setting it to 10 sec DOES work, the backlight turns off after 10 secs, BUT turns back ON after various seconds (sometimes +/- 11 secs, sometimes after 21 seconds...), then 10 secs later again off, etc etc... (cycle forever).
I did removed from the today screen both SPB Mobile shell and HTC Home (today screen = blank). But the problem is still there...
so the questions :
1) Does anybody experience that (it took me a full week of use to note this... can you try it on your Kaiser ?)
2) Any idea/solution to fix this ?
Best Regards,
Mike.
Just letting you know, that mine works as it should.
I dont have that bug .... but another bug:
After soft-reset, the battery backlight will be set to 10 seconds.
No clue yet why that happen.
When having issues like that try a hard reset and do not use a back up just set everything back up by hand. I found that most apps still are not ready for WM6 just yet since it really is a new OS even though we have had it for what seems like a very long time now.

When you set the back light to turn off, it doesn't actually turn off, instead it drops to minimum brightness. If you are in darkish room and so have the backlight set to minimum anyway, it looks like it isn't going off.
This is by design for Windows Mobile 6 devices, the Toshiba G900 was exactly the same. I can only guess it is because the screens are not trans-reflective, so they dim to the lowest level so you can still make out what is on the display and can tell it is still on, rather than in standby. This makes the behaviour seem similar to those moving from trans-reflective displays as while the backlight could go out completely, you could still make out what was on the display.
Regards
Phil
There are two listed tweaks for preventing the Diamond from turning the screen off during a call. I've done them both, and nothing happens. Are these tweaks confirmed to work for all phones, or just on some? It says the "Sleep" one works on european ROM -- do all European phones have the same rom?
I'm having a simmilar problem... It seems that the screen turns off after a set period of time... I thought that the light sensor was supposed to only shut the screen off when you bring it up to your ear, light gets dull... I have the phone sitting in well lit room and done got near it yet the screen still turns off..?

give it a shot
I've read that if you remove the stylus while in a call, then the note program comes on automatically, but the screen will also stay on until the call is finished

yes, you are right and this is in my humble opinion the best solution. this way even if u touch with yr ear/cheek the screen no funny noises and no unwanted programs popping up not to mention that this way u have the choice and if you don't need the screen it stays black.
If you want to turn your screen back on during a call just simply press the round center button once and it will turn back on. no need for any hacks.
Thanks for the help
From what I have read, the phone screen should only turn off the screen when you bring it up to your ear/there is low light on the light sensor in the handsets ear speaker... My phone's screen shuts itself off after 3 seconds or so, doesnt matter where light is... If you just disable fastdormant (1 to 0), does the phone still shut itself off after x seconds or does it wait until there is a change in light?
Can anyone confirm/clarify the above???
Also is it possible to reactivate the display once the phone detects a sizeable change in brightness again? From reading the links posted, no one has found a solution for this one yet..?
The screen will not turn off as long as you continue to touch the center button during call. The default setting work fine with me until I need to get information during a call yesterday. The center button touch allow you to use other functions during phone call.
[EDIT] STRANGELY ENOUGH, AFTER ENTERING THE REGISTRY AND JUST LOOKING AT THE VALUE OF THE KEYS HAS SOLVED THE PROBLEM BELOW...
[/EDIT]
My problem is that my phone won't go into the sleep mode when calling. Covering the phone doesn't help (I've tested the light sensor, and that still works)
For me this feature is a positive thing so I would like it to work again.
The registry entry for the EnableFastDormant is still on "1". The HTC Phone Skin is loaded (without that skin it doesn't work either).
When searching the forum I come across people who want their screen to stay on... I want the opposite to happen again. Anybody a suggestion?

Check this reg entry as well:
HKCU\ControlPanel\Phone\Sleep - 1
HKCU\ControlPanel\Backlight\LightSensorPollingEnable - 1
HKLM\Drivers\BuiltIn\RIL\BatteryTimeoutInCall - 5
HKLM\Drivers\BuiltIn\RIL\BatterySuspendTimeoutInCall - 5
Also,
Start - Settings - System
Power
Advanced
Check the following:
Turnoff Backlight if device is not used for 30 Sec
Turn off Device if not used for 40 sec
All the best
Note: After changing Registry Entries.. (if you had to).. do a soft reset.

I know... However, it bothers me as it doesn't really show realiability. Why didn't it work in the first place!? I'm experienced enough to know that I didn't do anything to the registry.

Besides - it's WINDOWS - since when did Windows care about RELIABILITY.
Chill.
Let's just hope it keeps working.
Problem with 1.93 ROM
Hey,
I cant seem to get the screen to stay on during a phone call using Asia WWE 1.93 ROM....
I have got BattTimeoutIncall = 0
BattSuspendIncall = 0
Phone\Sleep = 0
EnableFastdormant = 0
but the screen still turns off if i leave the phone sitting on the desk under light exactly when the call time ticks over to 4 sec (0:03 to 0:04)...
Ideas anyone, is this an issue with v1.93 rom?
Thanks.
this works!
Does this still enable the light sensor???
Still want the light sensor to work - i.e. turn off the screen when i bring it up to my head...

i dont think it disables it, but you can enable it either way with diamond tweak.

the only on of thos I see in my reg is HKCU phone sleep
where the hell are the others?

This is actually the best option because it turns off the screen when you want to conserve battery life.
So I just press the Center button when I want to see the screen to use the keypad or speakerphone.
Also, I have disabled the phone shade (curtain) by doing this:
Code:
HKLM/Software/HTC/Phone/PhoneLockEnable = 0
Hi there,
After flashing my TD with panosha's Shine On 1.9, I experience some strange behavior:
When the TD is in standby (i.e. touchscreen off) and there is an incoming call, the display turns on but the touchscreen remains completely unresponsive, i.e. it neither responds to "Answer", "Ignore", etc., nor to "Start" in the upper left corner.
And that is while the device is definitely unlocked (I don't even use the unlock function as I switch to standby as soon as I don't need the phone).
In fact I can answer the call with the hardware button only - in that case the connection establishes, but the screen goes blank.
If the device is not in sleep mode, everything works as it should.
I have tweaked several settings with both Advanced Config and Diamond Tweak, but in my opinion none of the tweakings applied might cause such a behavior.
Thanks for your ideas .
ROM contains:
Answer Key Disabler v0.3.1
Hey, thanks so much!
It wouldn't have occured to me that that is in fact a desired feature of that ROM, therefore I didn't even consider re-reading its thread.
lol i think people need to start reading about the
stuff there putting on there phones.
I am wonering if there's anything wrong on my TD2 ..
after i dialed a call or answering ...
my screen never turn off itself...
is this normal ?
or my light sensor is not working ?
any apps that I can test it b4 I send it back to service ?
use search
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=512212&highlight=screen
thanks my friend I actually did search.. but I guess I went with the wrong keywords about light sensor... and Screen off... instead of "Sleep"
again.. thanks very much
**BUT** My problem is the screen never turns off... during calls...
is that normal...?
or I have to install or tweak it myself ??
I read that post and installed that app... it just didn't work for me...
also... are there are app. that can let me use to "TEST" if my light sensor is working right ?
Yes thats normal. Doesn't work with the lightsensor but with the gsensor. Hold your Topaz flat the screen stays on. Hold him up against your ear the screen goes off. Turn it upside down en speakerphone comes too life. I just love it ! But it has nothing to do with the lightsensor
(im sorry for my very very bad english)

OK... I will try it again.. thanks for the more detailed informations you just provided ^^
tried the one you pointed to - actually it sometimes works - sometimes not - I don't like such behavior. I would like to have full sleep like in diamond 1 - when you close the light sensor during the call the screen gets blank and it comes out only if you a) press power button b) take out stylus. The variant that is from your link activate screen when you say make volume higher
Works fine for me ! I call 50 times a day, works every time ! Did u callibrate the g sensor ? Maybe that works
thanks.
now it's better.
by the way - did you enable/disable some options inside this tool config?
only ignore the lightsensor
It works perfectly but I don't need it since the new Manila, during the call, interposes a panel that disables the buttons. So I think is just to save the battery. Uninstalled!

Does not work for me.
When holding the Topaz at the ear, the display is always on (and will go to Standby then after 2 min - the is the "normal" value in my preferences).
Tried to change use of lightsensor or "fast/quick standby" with HDTweak - no success .
