I was wondering if is there such an application which would dim the backlight of the phone according to daytime/nightime.
It seems that there is a sensor for the keyboard lighting. Dont know if that would help if the keyboard is closed, but.... other ways.... or a snapshot of the camera could read how much light is there. unless its in ur pocket.. but if would be great if could autoset the backlight itself.
An idea if someone created a very small app which according to the time the level would auto dim the backlight. It would be a auto conserve power type of app.
Too bad i dont now much about programing....

Hi,
Received my brilliant brilliant kaiser today. Every penny worth an upgrade from trinity apart from a slight brick feeling.
I was wondering if someone knows how to keep QWERTY keyboard lights on all the time while you are using the keyboard. At the moment they stay on for few seconds when keyboard is opened, but turns off later and don't turn on even on pressing keys unless you close and open the keyboard. It would be helpful to type in dark if backlight on keyboard keys stay on as long as keyboard is open.
thanks
heh i use the low tech way, i put my finger over the light sensor
I am wondering the same thing. There is an option for "Automatic keyboard auto sensor" for the backlight under "Settings....Buttons....Backlight" but haven't been able to get it to work. Where is the light sensor? I could possibly go high tech and put tape over it!
Update:
In the Registry, navigate to:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER...Control Panel....Backlight....QKeyLedTimeout
and change the default value from 10(seconds) to something high eg. 180 (3 minutes).
This will keep the backlight on for the specified amount of time.

so say you only need the keyboard for 1 min, when you slide it shut does it stay lit for the other 2 min or go off when closed?
One last update....the above registry mod actually will keep the phone button backlights on for the specified time as well as the keyboard backlight. So, this could be a bonus for some. Still haven't found the light sensor on this device I am guessing it is on the keyboard on the left side (tiny hole), but I still haven't been able to activate it. Anybody else had any luck?

It will go off as soon as you close the keyboard

Unticking this option actually fixes the issue... If you DON'T enable the auto-sensor, the light will come back on instantly on every new key press (any key..).
Stretching up the time-out with earlier suggested reg-mod is a nice added bonus...
The sensor is slightly left from the Q-key. A little black dot.
Strange,
I put my finger on top of it, and it did not light the keyboard

Yeah.. my light sensor is iffy... Maybe it is just a bug.. I can be in a totally dark room and they key backlight will not turn on. If i disable the auto sensor the backlight, of course, works as normal.
i think i will have to leave it disabled..
Auto Sensor on p4550
Hello,
I have a kaiser and my auto sensor is not work.
Anyone have auto sensor (for light keyboard) work on his kaiser ?
Thanks.

That is exactly the same problem as I am having. I can't seem to get the keyboard to light up in complete darkness. My other devices never had this problem. The backlight would come on in darkness. Any suggestions?

Most of the time it works for me.. The easiest fix it to simply disable the light sensor. It works just like any other PPC then. If it is misbehaving a reboot will fix it for a while. I haven't actually had any problems for a bit now. I wonder if it has anything to do with the lock password bug? I did disable my lock password and haven't had any problems since.. might just be a coincidence. Wouldn't hurt to try that too just to see.
Hey guys, I know that the Kaiser has a light sensor to tell the keyboard when to light up (at least I think I read that somewhere)... So does anyone know a program that uses this light sensor to adjust the backlight of the screen according to how bright it is outside? I would love it so that when I'm indoors the backlight is dimmer to save battery, but when outside in direct sunlight it gets brighter so I can see it well. Anyone know if this is plausible?
If a program doesn't exist, I'd really like to develop one. However, considering I have no experience, I would need considerable help. If someone is interested in developing this, that would be awesome!

I don't think there are any light sensors on the Kaiser. The keyboard just lights up anytime when you want it, I think there is a setting for that.
to the left of the letter q on the qwerty keyboard there is a sensor that makes the keyboard light up when it is dark
If you press a key and it is dark, the keyboard backlight will invoke, and if its light out and you press the keyboard, the backlight does not invoke.
what dyou mean lights out
the backlight will light up whenever the sensor next to the q senses no light

He said when it's light out, as in when there is a lit environment.
Anyone have any ideas how to tap into that sensor? Or perhaps have the lens of the camera sense light when the keyboard is closed somehow for the backlight? Am I thinking way to hard about this? lol
keyboard light sensor
Turning off light sensor for keyboard:
Start/settings/buttons/backlight tab/uncheck "enable keyboard backlight auto sensor". That's it.
Cheers
Keyboard Backlight Time-Out
My backlight comes on fine, but no matter how dark it is, it will not stay on for more than a few seconds. So then I have to hit just ANY old key to try and start typing again.
Anyone know how to make the KEYBOARD backlight stay on longer?
Thanks.
I'm looking for a program that will put the phone into standby when it goes into my pocket (meaning the light sensor reads a lighting level of "0".) I can't find one anywhere. Does it even exist? If not could someone make it? much appreciated

Ian Morley
There is a program called ChangeScreen. It is an app that changes the orientation of the screen depending on the G-sensor. But in the app there is an option that turn the screen off if it is in your pocket.

There's where you can find it. Hope that helps.
I don't know if anyone else feels this way, but I tend to think that the auto brightness setting on stock lollipop is WAY too bright, and, while of course it shows off the screen, it wastes battery life.
I can turn on power saving mode to try and dim the screen to some extent. I've also given Lux a try, but it didn't really seem to do much...
Does anyone have an idea for auto brightness which works similarly to how CM12.1 does it on this phone? Where you can set how bright you want it to be, but it still compensates for ambient light?
Thanks!

I like screen filter. It's very simple and you can pick which percentage you want. I've gotten it lower than stock. I'd recommend giving it a try. Couldn't hurt.
Not sure about the ambient light bit, last time I used it was on my note 2. It may be available.
There's a setting for ambient light too.
Hello!
Is it possible to deactivate the proximity sensor? I know that ALL sensors can be deactivated in the quick setting panel, but I want just the proximity sensor to be deactivated, so the "always-on-screen", showing a clock and incoming messages, does also stay on when I put the phone into a transparent rain cover on my bike. Right now I need to push the on-button to be able to see the clock or other information, and that is something I'd rather avoid while riding.
Does anyone know a solution for this? An app or a patch maybe?
Nearly forgot to mention: the phone is running on LOS 18.1.
If you have root it's posible to do everything, though I am not sure how to help you...
What I know is that you will propably have to edit some tables on the system, maybe the system table. There is an app from the playstore that you can downlaod that allows you to modify some system tables(like global tables as well). Maybe if you play with that you may be able to deactivate the proximity sensor. The app is called SetEdit.
Hope this helps you, and in case it did, and you downlaod the app, could you please tell me if it is posible to modify the android properties table?
thx!
Thanks for your reply!
I should have been more precise when expressing my wish: I meant to switch the proximity sensor off while system is running and switch it back on later. The app that you pointed me to, reads as if the sensor will be deactivated at boot time and stay off until I reverse the change to the table and reboot again.
Basically, what I need, is an app that can switch the sensor off and on again without the need for rebooting in between, or an option in the system settings, that can be set within a profile: switching to profile A, which has proximity sensor on, switching to profile B, which has the sensor turned off, while all other sensors stay unchanged, would be a very good solution.
I don't know it that would be possible at all. On the other hand, there are "tasker apps", which can do "X if Y happens" or something like that. If such an app could "turn proxi sensor off when profile B is activated", that would also be a solution to my problem.
Do you know of any such app?
Oh. Yeah, that seems to be a very specific usage, and I don't believe you will find an app to disable the proximity sensor. Maybe you can develop that, it shouldn't be very hard, especially if you already have some knowledge of android development.
Good luck!
To my opinion the screen's on/off status should not always be determined by the proximity sensor, but by surrounding brightness instead, because the way it is now, you can not put the phone into a transparent cover, without the screen being switched off.
I agree that only a very few people will use transparent covers, and that the proximity sensor does have its advantages when holding the phone to your ear, but I also can imagine more situations where the screen wil be turned off by accident, when it rather should be kept on.
So, an option like
Code:
Use proximity sensor to turn off screen [ ]
Use light sensor to turn off screen [ ]
inside a system profile would be a great thing!
