Quick question about hard re-sets - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV General

Hi all,
I just did a hard re-set on my phone, and it looks like it has cured the problem that i was having.
But my question is...do i have to update the ROM again? Or will it still be the updated version? I have checked and it says 1.93.405.
Thats the latest one right?
Thanks!

no u don't have to update it again...
about your rom being latest, i don't think so.

Is it really not the latest one?
By latest i mean the official one, im still a bit scared to try the cooked stuff!

I'm with you on this one!
... yes, that is the latest one released officially from HTC. Other users in this forum may have newer versions, but like you, I'm keeping to the official version for now. I'm certainly not having any of the issues people are discussing here, which makes me wonder... would they still be having these issues had they not upgraded their device with an unofficial ROM?

A hard reset on a PPC is like using a restore CD\DVD on your desktop computer. It will place the initial software back erasing all data.
So there is no need to update. Also, the latest build or number does not mean it's the best. So if you like your device just leave it as it is.. ..meanwhile read about other users experience about different ROM's this way you stay on the save side

Thanks for the replies.
I am having no problems at all with it now, its running really well, so think i am just going to leave it as it is for the moment!

Help flashing a Prototype X1 please....

Hi guys,
I have in my possession a review sample of the X1i. Seems that the hardware is intact but the software is very old
R1AA013
R13A
Generic_UK
Rom 1.01.931.14
Radio 1.05.25.15
The SE update service says there is no update for the phone, but I know R20A is out and much newer roms are also out.
I have a Touch Pro and have flashed many HTC phones before.
Is it just a matter of Hardspl and then finding a UK rom and radio somewhere.
I have checked the Wiki but there only seems to be one rom there and it does not say what it is. Can anyone please point me in the right direction for an up to date UK rom please. (really liking the panels)
if you hardspl then the seus may work, but theres several roms on this section of the forum that id use instead..
Thanks for the tip, I will try SEUS with Hardspl.
I have been looking at the roms on the forum and they all seem to be hacked with HTC Manila on them. What if I just want the latest SE panels and rom?

Thanks you so much, I really appreciate your help. I will see how I get on tonight.
Hi, sorry for resurrecting such an old topic, but churchwa did you have any success in flashing your phone? I am in a similar situation and would like not to brick what I got.

I have a prototype X1 too, I have flashed it a dozen times (mostly testing ROMs for the ROM LIBRARY) Zero problems. Advantage: protos are security nlocked
LINK TO THREAD HERE
Really? Thats great. I'm running the same firmware as OP, and while it will make me sad to loose everything to start fresh (just got tomtom working ) maybe I will try this out soon. A performance boost would be nice.
Usually with SE stuff the proto IMEI (004...) throws a serious red flag, among other things. Great to know I can update it. Now if only the hardware were in better shape...
Edit: One last question to gtrab or whoever may help. My main interest would be to load the latest official NAM firmware out there, doing so wouldn't lock it or anything would it? Official as in un-touched, not network (Att or Tmo) related. If I were looking to do something unofficial, what would be the best way to go? Perhaps I should read up a bit first.
But thats when you have normal non-pda se phones,
there os works differently.
You have FW, EEProm, Erom and gdfs (i think)
proto's have normally got brown FW and erom so they need brown loaders instead of red (retail) to get flashed properly.
As this phone works completely different there is (almost) no difference between proto and ratail ones.

it may sound silly

i have been reading loads and loads on this excellent forum and i have learned so much about unlocking and flashing hard and soft for my kaiser and also about the radio and the problems i can run into and their fixes.
here is the silly question
what rom software should i flash to my phone?
i have read about some of the roms available but i cant see many differances between then because as i can see they are all debranded firmware roms and all that i can see is that some have different applications allready implimented in them, so does it really matter which rom i use or should i just use the newest?
thanks for any suggestions or help in reguards to this

It is very hard to tell someone to use a particular ROM, because each person expects different things out of their phone. The best thing to do is read about each ROM, read the ROM's thread to find out what the Chef has put into their ROM....then pick one and flash away....trying is the only way to find out what is best for you.
Hope that this helps..
i thaught that would be the answer i would get lol but thanks anyway.
does repeatedly reflashing the rom to try the software affect the phone in any bad way at all or is it safe to go ahead and try a few?

I currently have Stylez Black version 2. I just flashed Version 2 last Friday. It is working wonderfully. I had Version 1, since it's release.
Stylez is new to cooking for Kaiser, but he has cooked for Dash. He is also helped other Chefs with their builds.

I have flashed my phone hundreds of times in the last year and a half, with no ill effects. I personally think that all the hard resets associated with flashing have kept my phone clean and running at top form.
Since most roms are cooked using the same basic kitchens and from the same M$ builds, the basic structure is the same. Some cooks cook for stability, some for speed, some for super storage and some to just constantly push the limit of possibilities.
After a while, flashing will be like changing themes. Look at them all and find one that suits you needs and flash away, you can always change it if you want more or less in a rom.

[Q] Incredible S latest ROM, Sense

Hi all,
I have Incredible S, all from the factory (software, Sense..etc)
I would like to know step by step how to :
1- Install a new ROM.
2- Having the news HTC Sense 3.5 on it and also if that have any negatives or if something might not work.
3- The latest ROM I can install.
4- Any additional info you think I should know as I am new to Android and HTC world.
Thank you,
Michel
The best bit of advice I can give you is search, search, search! All the info you need dude has already been asked and answered so hit that search button and spend a bit of time finding it out for yourself. Best place to start is the development forum where you can learn and download many different ROMs and find out which is the best one for you. Good luck...and welcome!
yep, you are right,
but sometimes when you are totally new to something you need some help at least with knowing the name of the best ROM as I've found many of them with different issues.

Go read the sticky threads in the Dev section. You have some work ahead of you before you can flash a custom Rom.
Yes, I went, and all is ready, my PC and my mobile,
the only thing I need is a ROM which doesn't have problems and won't effect my device plus a new version of Sense.

Ok, then nandroid backup and start flashing Roms then. Only you will be able to determine which Rom will fit your criteria. What you may think is a 'problem' on one Rom may not be that big of deal to someone else, so just start trying them yourself.
Problems like WiFi, Camera, SD Card, Backlight, Bluetooth.. all these are problems which I think might be issue for all users .
only a starting name would be enough to me

I would agree totally with all of those which is why I personally have not even tried any of the Sense 3.0 Roms. IMHO the current GB 2.3.3 Rom with Sense 2.1 runs just fine on my IncS so I won't be able to offer you any suggestions.
Revolution HD has no known issues download that and stop complaining. There is no "best ROM" try them all, the only thing you have to lose is bandwidth and time.
I use Newt pyramid beta 3 sense 3.0 gb 2.3.4 its stable, crazy fast, as current as you can get, and if you check the last of the comments almost all of the bugs have been fixed.

My thoughts too, the only glitch that bugs me is that I sometimes lose my gsm signal here at home. I don't think there's a fix.

try a new radio...
I find the 20.2810 one has great signal
Is that a newer one than I have now? I received a 30mb update recently. Any negatives effects with it, battery life?
My current radio is 20.208.30.085AU_3805.06.03_M

yeah it's the newest. I think it works perfectly and has the best signal of all the radios I've tried
Right, I might have to look into that, just hopes it improves things for me.
I'm still considering returning the phone though due to the signal drop outs, I'm a bit reluctant to root or do anything that'll stop me from being able to return it. Can I take it that running an RUU will put everything back to stock, including radio and S Off?
Yes. If you root using AlpaharevX and not a permanent root using a gold card then flashing a stock RUU will bring you back to S-on. Give it a go, I did, happy so far and have the stock RUU downloaded and ready to go if need be.
I don't think I need a Gold Card with it being a sim free unit? So it should be just a case of following this guide http://is.gd/5wKZRZ and then flashing a different radio?
If I don't like the results then I should be able to run an RUU to get me back to stock?

Back up your current ROM just incase you f*ck up and get going flashing some ROMs I only flashed Android Revolution HD yesterday after asking the community a few questions and look forward to seeing how it goes, check out some of my posts for some of those questions if you want. If not happy will try something else and always have a carbon copy of my original stock ROM to restore if need be....simple

[Q] ICS Official update quick question.

Hi Guys, been reading up on Android for a while and have to say you guys are awesome some really great info in here.
i just have one quick question if someone would be so kind to help.
i was awaiting the ICS update and checking the Facebook page (and here). wasnt feeling experienced enough to do the whole root and mod stuff yet (hopefully soon)
but on the facebook page. i noted this link for a simple official upgrade
http://www.pcworld.idg.com.au/article/424364/how_update_your_samsung_galaxy_note_ice_cream_sandwich/
i followed the procedure (perhaps very stupidly)
came straight here to see what new magic i could make
and saw the "Public Service Announcement"
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1633938
did i screw up here guys? kinda freaked! if so....should i revert back. is that an easy thing to do?
maybe im reading too much into it
thanks the help ill be sure to thank anyone
You should be fine. This is really affecting what seems to be the rooted version with chain fire. I have the official stock lpy and have no issues. So I would just recommend staying where you are at the moment and don't attempt to root or go into cwm.

lol you just freaked me out aswell, but i guess this has nothing to do with the official stock Germany ICS release, right!? Cos i Flashed it yesterday and its working great so far!!!!
Or is this something that can happen down the line?
The announcement is for ICS repacks from previous leaks
+1 ! i'm also hesitant on rooting and flashing because i'm too busy at the moment and can't be bothered with a bricked phone.
The announcement you're refering to is quite old though and concerns ICS repacks that were built using leaks while the official G-Note ICS from Samsung was still under development.
If you flashed your phone using the official ICS downloaded from samsung directly you shouldn't have any problem.
Also, i'm not 100% sure about this but i think flashing (even an official and clean stock rom) can go dreadfully wrong (=bricked phone) if there's a problem (like a powerfailure or computer crash or if your cat jumps on your phone and disconnects the cable) in the very first phases after you launched the operation. That's when the program installs all the required boot files on the phone and if those are missing, it just will never turn on again.
I also asked some folks in another post on the forum and they assured me that most roms are safe to flash if they we're built from stock roms. So since GB has been out for so long, it's pretty much safe to flash any GB-based custom rom. Now that ICS is out, it'll be pretty safe to flash custom ROMs based on ICS in a month or two i guess.
I'm too inexperienced to give advice but i think you'll be fine. Hope the above info was useful.

GT-P1000T Upgrade from 2.2

Hi all,
Apologies if this is covered elsewhere, I'm sure it is, but nothing really makes sense to me at this stage. I've used Apple products before, so this is all new to me. Yes I'm aware how frustrating it is explaining what you think is basic **** for the hundredth time to some guy who just created an account to ask this question, but I'm different I swear, help me out!
I've just bought a GT-P1000T as it's compatible with the video input in my car.
It is currently running firmware 2.2, kernel 2.6.32.9, build FROYO.DVJJ3.
From what I can see, Android is currently at version 5...? So my questions are: what's the latest firmware I can get just using the normal update? Do I need to jailbreak/root/whatever to get a newer firmware? Is it worth it? As in, will it run slower, or are the jailbreaks/roots unstable?
And if it is worth it, what's the process for upgrading?
Also how do I even update normally? I can't find that menu haha...
Thanks all!
