Browser cache directly to storage card? - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

I've used Kaiser tweak to route downloads directly to the 4gig card that I have--I have about 70 megs of storage memory still left in the unit, so my file downloads are limited to just this. Is there a certain step I'm missing to be able to store temp. browser cache directly to card w/o directly affecting storage capacity? I've also used J.S. advanced Configuration Tool 3.2 (similar to Tweak) put in the appropriate settings, same result.

get hold of a registry editor and change the value of the "Cache, "Cookies", and "History" keys to the ones mentioned below.
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders]
"Cache"="\Storage Card\IE Mobile\Temporary Internet Files"
"Cookies"="\Storage Card\IE Mobile\Cookies"
"History"= "\Storage Card\IE Mobile\History"
cheers

Be aware however, some people have reported PIE crashing with cache on the Storage Card.

help on how to use the storage card as main drive

can some one point me in the right direction for this been look thru multiple thread trying to find it but no luck.
this is for a cingular 8125
The main drive for what? If you mean the IE cache, then the Registry Wizard found on this forum can do that. If you mean for individual apps, the CAB files will allow you to choose whether to install on the device or on the memory card when you install them. Beyond that, I guess I'm not sure what you'd mean...
I guess he wants the entire OS to run from storage card instead. Its like you want Windows XP running off a DVD-RW disk instead of HDD for your PC.
no i think he probably means when you install some apps to the storage card .. when you go to run them it is looking for the ".EXE" on the device and throws an error... probably how to fix that ..
i just want all apps to run from storage using 2 gig sd card, seem slike everythin i install and choose storage card seems to be on main memory instead of storage even tho i choose storage card i still see in main memory
A lot of apps will still copy some stuff to main memory regardless where you want to install them. Some apps like Today plug ins will even have problem running off storage card especially on old ROMs. Keep this in mind, storage card is slow and not immediately available after wake up from sleep mode. It is best left to be used as storage (as the name implies) rather than program memory.

Main Memory

Happy New 2008,
Was exploring my Kasier & noticed from Setting->Memory that my memory status as follow:-
Main, Total:135M, In use:130M, Free:5M
Program, Total:101M, In use:42M, Free:59M
Which is the RAM memory? ROM memory?
When I went to "remove program", I realised programs that I installed are shown in "Programs in storage memory".. even I had directed to "memory card".. How do I know which are the program I had intended be installed in memory card? I'm confused and would appreciate any kind soul can direct me...
Thanks in advance..
Do you think this helps?
Regards,
Carty..
Sorry, just to confirm, so when you are installing a program, you tell it to install to your Micro SD Card, but it installs to the Main Memory instead?
Thanks.
Yes, I directed to micro-SD card, I can see the files are stored under the program files of memory card, but why it occupied the "storage memory" of the main memory, now I left with 5M??
Actually, I am having this problem as well. Programs that I had installed on the Micro SD are showing up in the Program Files folder on my device rather than storage card.
I just uninstalled Google Maps and confirmed absence of Google Maps folder in both device and mem card. When reinstalling the app, I chose to install on mem card. However, browsing with Total Commander shows the Google Maps exe and folder has been installed to main mem, with no Google Maps folder to be found on mem card.
Any bright ideas?
try clearing your temp internet files that eats a lot of phone memory and should free up quite a bit for you
Thanks for that. It's not really the amount of free memory that is the issue for me. It's more the fact that, despite choosing "SD card", all the programs seem to be installed on the main memory.

Temporary Internet Files on Storage Card

I just got a Tilt and am running Alex's stripped ROM. I'm used to storing the Temporary Internet Files, History, and Cookies on the Storage Card with my Hermes.
I've Google Searched this and cannot find it.
I've tried to make the registry changes as follows:
HLCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Explorer\Shell Folders
Cache = \Storage Card\Temporary Internet Files
Cookies = \Storage Card\Cookies
History = \Storage Card\History
When I do this and reset the device, PIE won't work. It starts to down load files then just starts.
How are you Kaiser Aces doing this.
Thanks in advance.
I haven't tried this myself but I know KaiserTweak has options to change where your files are stored. Give that a whirl.
Unless you want a dead slow internet experience, don't do it. the only reliable place to move the cache to on these devices is a ram disc. But that's a bit of a waste on your ram & not needed. As long as you clean up your temp. iternet files occasionaly you'll be fine in device memory. As far as I know though, there is no reliable way to relocate the cache to SD at this time.

Thanks man. I do it on my BA and Hermes with no problem. I'll follow your advice.
Yeah, I n BA also. This is a different beast though.
No storage card for IE files..... SSLLLLLOOOOWWWW and/or DIE. Unfortunately, it is no good.
I've set IE cache to storage card and must confirm that IE becomes very slow and hangs so now and then.

sorry for the thread revival, but by "cleaning out" temp files, do you mean just deleting everything under:
\Windows\profiles\guest\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\*
?
I've got 37.9 MB in mine.
simplified. using your browser, go in to settings and delete cookies, cache and temp. internet files.
or you can use the cleartemp program and do it that way.

I did that (cleared cookies/cache/temp files in browser), it didn't remove any of the files in that directory.
so...
- did a soft reset
- renamed my \Content.IE5\ folder to \Content.IE5.OLD\
- did another soft reset
- opened PIE and browsed
- checked that a new \Content.IE5\ folder had been created
- deleted the \Content.IE5.OLD\ one
38MB recovered.
Just deleted 2 Posts as they were adding no value unless we are in a kindergarten.
Thanks for the thread, I just recovered 64mb

Downloading large files to storage card errors?

I was going to use my Tilt to download Vista SP1 at work the other night since the connection is much faster than mine at home.
I first tried Netfront 3.5 which gave a file could not be read error after about 1 minute.
Next I tried IE. I brought up the page and clicked download. It popped up and asked if I wanted to open the file after it finished. I clicked no to that then selected save as. I direct the file to be stored on my storage card and not the main system memory.
After about 5 minutes I get a beep and it says that I'm low on memory. Now I free'd up 1.2GB and the file is only 726MB. Are downloads saved to temp on the main memory before they finish then transfer to the micro SD?
If so how can I fix this. I have a rather small download cap at home and my jobs internet is ultra fast in comparison to mine. I really want to be able to download files like this if possible. This is one of the reasons I got the phone and I'm now rather disappointed that I can't download larger files.
Any programs out there that manage a download direct to the storage card or some other setting I can change to make this work?
Do search for "Advanced Config", and in that tool there is a way to change the temperary internet file location. I would imagine that the file is first caching itself into that folder (like normal windows) and then trying to copy it over to the flash card.
Man all I get is Edge, I hate you guys with uber fast phones.

Opera 9.5 (beta) can offer this service. You can configure the temporary download folder and the final download folder to be in the SD card. All these settings can be found in about:config, while opera beta can be found on this forum.

Okay I ended up downloading the advanced config. I see an option in there under IE settings that allows me to change the default temporary folder. What do I want to change this folder to though?
@ TrYde I really don't want to install Opera 9.5 (Beta) since it can't be uninstall ed but thanks for the info.
Edit In: Okay I think I got it in the right place. I created a temp folder on the storage card and wrote the directory as \storage card\Tempfiles. I then browsed my files on the storage card. It looks like in the tem folder I created advanced config wrote my cookies,history and temporary internet files into. I'll try this tonight at work and report back. A big +1 to you for letting me know about this program! I can't believe they would put such a limitation into the phone to begin with O wait yes I can.....

Question about Storage Memory

Hey everyone,
I have the Kaiser and am having trouble with my storage memory.
Total: 125.04 MB
In use: 111.10 MB
***Free: 13.88 MB ***
Why is my storage memory so damn low?... How do I find out what's taking so much mem up?... How do I free that memory up??? I have no programs open, and most of my programs are on my 4 gig storage card.
Any help or suggestions are truly appreciated!
- Jesse
Make sure the caches of IE, OPERA, ETC are deleted routinely.
If you are storing ringtones on your main memory, download software that will allow ringtones on the storage card.
Same goes with any audio clips, videos, or pictures.
If you use resco explorer, make sure the recycling bin is cleaned, or simply disable the recycling bin.
This should free up a nice chunk of storage space. (Ofcourse assuming that most of your programs are actually on your storage card; check your main memory programs folder to actually see whats installed on your main memory)
Thank you for your help!
One more (silly) question - When I install programs to my Tilt, it asks me if I want to install them to the main storage or my memory card. I almost always choose memory card, yet when I check my main storage memory after I install to my storage card, the main storage is depleted... Even though I chose storage card, it still installs some components to the main memory... why is this?
ekw, whats the name of the sofware that allows storage of ringtones on memory card with kaisers?
Thanks....
Just move them to the route of your memory card - no need to purchase software!
Just like on the full-sized Windows, certain programs will want to install a couple of files in the system directories regardless of where the program itself is installed... Those shouldn't be big though.
