I have a SX-66 that has already begun to do odd things, mainly show the GSM/GPRS WinPPC splash screen and then white screen until a hard reset. I upgraded to the newest rom from the SIemens site, but I could use some US Cingular Specific Guidance. While I have read the intro to upgrades, etc. herein, Cingular's version of the device is not mentioned. Can anyone provide som eassistance to me? What needs to be done to get this thing working properly. Before I set up my Socket BT GPS and BT800 handsfree, I want to make sure everything is perfect, then I will burn a pbackup and put the data from outlook onto the phone. Thanks in advance.
That happens to me on occasion.
I dont have to hard reset, I just soft reset, maybe a couple of times and it fixes itself. I usually softreset once, or twice every two or three weeks. Windows mobile has some issues, but the SX66 is not the only blue angel that has these problems
The best thing to do is this: Setup your SX66 the way you want it, then backup (complete backup).
What I did with mine was to backup everytime I installed a new app. Use it for a few hours make sure it does not crash, install another app , backup, test, install next app (etc etc etc).
I am at a point now that my device works great (with the few soft resets) and if something catastrophic happens I can restore it
Hello.
If you downloaded the 'legit' Siemens upgrade from either Siemens or Cingular's web site, there is NOTHING for you to do prior to running the backup.
Except the following...
Make sure your phone is fully charged. Activesync it first, to store all of your contacts, email, and calender data in Outlook. Reset the phone (push the reset button on the bottom).
Now, you're ready to begin. Connect the phone via the cradle, and run the installation program. Keep in mind, the upgrade will erase everything in the phone.
I also have a BT800 headset, and I can tell you from experience that it doesn't work too well with the Blue Angel phones (yet).
Don't worry too much about upgrading the phone. It should go fine. Just make sure the phone is directly connected to your computer, and not through a USB hub.
Excellent News
Glad to hear I am not too far off. I also replaced the sim chip which seemed to stop the phone from hanging up on the GSM/GPRS windows splash screen. I backuped as soon as I had it working for a while, as you said and today cam into the office to find the Socket BT GPS with map software and my BT800 arrived. Hopefully the BT 800 issues will be solved so those of us with Blue Angels can rpove convergence devices really can do all those things... and do it well. Thanks for the help. This forum is extremely well versed. Lot of posts to read to get smart...
Hello again, I have this big problem with my Kaiser :
since I installed the last HTC 6.1 ROM update, my device randomly freezes for 10-20 seconds.
I also noticed that my devices sometimes slow down ...
Does anyone else have this problem ?
The solution : Downgrade to WM6 !
I think I've found where the problem is :
since I stopped using "Quick Menu", the Kaiser does not freeze anymore ...
That means this is another usefull application I will have to stop using with the HTC 6.1 ROM !!!
Sorry but I don't know what is Quick menu...

If you don't know it, that means you didn't install it on your Kaiser. So your freeze problems were not coming from this application. Sorry ...
The biggest bug i've been with wm6.1 : my kaiser soft reset alone all the time ! Maybe they're drunk when they're built this rom lol ! They should have write : THE MAGIC FUNNY WM6.1 RELEASE WITH GHOST TOUCH !
I disabled Weather tab and contacts tab with HTC home customizer. It seems to work well now. I will see if problem has really gone. Thank you for your help Dizzy. You gave a direction to my searchs
You're welcome ... But I use HTC home mainly for its contact and weather application ... So it's not a solution for me.
I noticed that orange france users had problems. Perhaps it is linked with our SIM CARD...
do you really need to post two threads on this?
I thought about using HTC's rom, but instead, i used dutty's lite rom, and built it up myself with what i wanted. Its a hell of a,lot faster, i wouldnt touch another oem htc rom ever again, they are full of rubbish, and slow as my old wizard
Finally I discovered that the problem didn't come from "Quick Menu", but from "HTC home" !!!!!
HTC home does slown down my Kaiser and is responsible for randoms freezes of it !
If I disable "HTC home" on the today setup screen, then everything is faster (start menu display ...).
I re-installed Quick-menu and now my Kaiser is working fine.
I will have to replace HTC home by a clone application ...
I haven't had any issues with my Kaiser freezing with the 3.28.405.0 WWE ROM, but then I haven't used ROM that was oficially released by HTC. Instead I've been using the one that was leaked out a couple of days before the official release.
Is it possible that the official ROM image is corrupted in some way? I've noticed this post over in the Kaiser ROM Development forum, which was posted today:

I'm not the only one having trouble with 6.1. They said in the next two days there will be a "new" version available.
The file we could download now is corrupt and they will upload a non corrupt version. Supposedly the file was corrupt by uploading to ftp server
I think they will release a patched version.

I've installed the official (English) rom I got from someone in the UK (there is none for TYTN II from Hong Kong being used in the USA as of yet ) and loved the idea that all I had to do is just install ( No hard SPL ) and everything seems fine. I have a lot of apps. installed and everything is fine.
I upgraded to the leaked ROM and have had nothing but Freezing problems !!
I turned off HTC home and this seemed to do the job...for about 12 hours and then wouldnt you know it, its slow again.
I did a hard reset and turned everything off, used Kaiser tweaks to change the cache options and its still not right.
I feel badly let down by this product. I upgraded from a blackberry 8800 which ran like a dream, no problems. I've always been alittle sceptical about Windows Mobile Products. I've owned many PDAs in the past and have always felt that they were always compromised. My Dell Axim X51v was a good PDA but too bulky to carry around. I've always been someone who wasnt bothered by Windows Mobile Devices because of their windows hang ups. Seems I was proved right, though I know this isnt necessarily a Windows thing, more likely a HTC thing....it still doesnt help !
I needed a product that offered, office apps, with internet and the ability to FTP easily at high speeds either over WiFi or 3g. The Vario III had the lot including imense flexability which made me give up my Blackberry (which was a big thing, trust me as I adored my blackberry,,,it was just alittle limited).
After having purchased HTC's almost flagship model I've feel totally let down, they knowingly shipped a product that was flawed and then released a dodgy fix that affectively made the device worse (for some of us!). Freezing all the time. When it wasnt freezing it was a pleasure to use...but seriously, i'm 5 weeks into using it and I'm absolutely pee'd off. I seem to be constantly looking for fixes all the time !! my wife thinks I've become bloody addicted to it, she wont listen when i tell her I'm trying to fix it. it always seems to be in my hand !! (the kaiser that is )
That blackberry of mine is going to be taken out of the box and this paper weight will be used as just that.
gutted man
Ste
You need to remove the HardSPL application from your Kaiser in order to stop the freezes ... Take a look at this thread :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=394783
It works ... Guaranteed !
Yes, the HardSPL is your problem, not HTC.
I tried the official htc e-club 6.1 and had lots of freezing issues. It would just freez for 20 seconds or so then start working again. Drove me crazy. I off-loaded it and re-loaded dutty's 6.1 hybrid and am very happy with it. Very stable, no more freezes either. I also reloaded mobile shell and found it to work much better than with the old 6.0. The memory issues, leaks etc. I had with shell on 6.0 seem to have become almost non-existant with this rom. And did I say batt life is heaven . I'm stickin' with what works for now.
I have the problem that Activesync is automatically turned on when I start the phone and it makes alot of problems but when I turn it off it usually solves it - anyone know how to fix this?

I have the e-club 6.1 and am experiencing the same freezes. Really annoying. I think there is a pattern that when I turn off the phone, the freezes go away.

I had a similar issue where Activesync would start running on my phone every so many minutes, when looking in the task manager it would be running. I fixed that by running task manager v2.8 from Fdcsoft you can download it from here http://www.dotfred.net/TaskMgr.htm with that go to notification and disable replog.exe (AppRunAfterTimeChange). This does not affect active sync working when connecting to a pc or with push email.
Ive had my tytn 2 for a little over a month now, and I've noticed something when I'm using the phone for heavy texting. After a while, the phone will more or less freeze. The chime stops sounding for a new text, however, the phone continues to operate, and will recieve calls. Also, when the alert stops sounding, if I close the text messaging and return to the today screen, the screen is all scrambled. I have done a few hard resets now to try and clear the problem. I am going to be unable to return the phone to the place I bought it from, as we had a disagreement over the last phone I purchased through them(long story). The touch screen still works on the today screen, and if you know where to push, it will still open programs, just everything looks like snow....
Now, I have WM 6.1 on it(factory rom) ROM version 3.29.422.1 WWE, the ROM date is 05/20/08. The radio version is 1.70.18.02. The phone is used on a T-mobile affiliate(IWireless) network. The techs there are idiots, and I don't think they could dial with this let alone tell me how to fix it....
My previous phone was a T-mobile MDA, which I did love. I know about using different ROMS, Im just not sure how/which one to use on my TYTN 2. HELP ME PLEASE!
anybody have this problem too? it is getting incredibly irritating. I called tech support last night, and the people that I talked to had no idea what I was even talking about. It almost seems as if there is a lag in the programs. I occasionaly get a screen that is telling me that tmail.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. i let it send the error report, but the text program stays open.
Any help would be appreciated!
have you tried to reflash to the factory rom?
Can you warranty it with HTC?
Sounds like a harware problem -- specifically the cable that connects the keyboard is either loosly connected or damaged.
Try to get service directly through HTC -- but if you can't you might want to open it up and see if the cable is seated properly
im not sure it it is a hardware problem, as the phone will go skitzo on me even if I open the keyboard and leave it open. it usually would only do it when im texting, but it did it today, when the phone was on silent, I switched it back to on, and read a text message(did not open it), and when I tried to close the text and return to the today screen, it froze up again, and I had to do a soft reset. im really thinking its a software issue...
I would try to reflash, I had a ROM on mine that had the same problem, I did a reflash and never had the problem again.
Is there any way that I can do the reflash and still have the pre-loaded settings from my carrier? I'm thinking that I can't, but is there a place that I can be pointed to to get a copy of how to do the re-flash? It's got WM 6.1 Professional on it, and it is a branded copy(maybe part of the problem?). Obviously, I need to take some time to write down all of the settings for internet and such...
Are you talking about the network settings or something else? Most ROM's have a connection wizard that will setup network and MMS settings.
mostly the settings for the mms messages, and the internet settings. when I flashed a new rom to my mda, I had to manually put them in, the auto wizards wouldn't work.
I have been using TomTom7 on my diamond for almost a year. First several months it was working fine, just some lags or freezes on roundabouts, which was not a big issue.
Then it started doing this strange behaviour at some occasions: I start TomTom, it finds satellites fairly quickly, I start driving, all fine. Then after some distance it loses coordinates (you can see the blue arrow, but everything behind it is grey and it is not following the route). Sometimes it fixes itself for a short time, then does it again. Sometimes this is all, whatever you do (reroute, restart tomtom, restart phone) it won't come back. Some days none of this happens.
Nothing in configuration had changed, I've been using the same radio and rom for almost a year.
I was really annoyed by this, could not simply rely on tomtom. Now I updated the ROM, and yesterday this happened again
If this was discussed before, please point me in the right direction, most of the threads I found by search were about lags or configuration.
It might be the Quick GPS Programs, I recall having a simular problem where the GPS would work for about 5 minutes then turn off, only turning the phone off then on then running up tomtom again would get another fix, only for it to run for a further 5 mins or so.
I think I disabled the quick GPS in the registry using PHM registry editor or something simular.
It might be worth considering updating the ROM. I'm running BsB's which seems much better than the stock offerings.
I've also had this problem with the latest rom from HTC (regular rom) with the radio 1.09.XX
I've updated to radio 1.15 and the problem is gone.
Thanks for you replies.
I've now updated the radio to one of the latest (1.09.25.23), the ROM was already recent (2.07 Gen.Y). Will test it during the week.
The solution based around disabling of Quick GPS - wouldn' it make the start up time longer ?

I have tried to install this radio, but got "Invalid Device Id" message, 1.09 installed with no problems. The phone is security unlocked, could not understand what was the issue and just moved on .. :-/
Could be error in timezone
Hi all,
I had a similar problem and it appears to be the timezone, by reasons unknown my Diamond was set to a timezone of Stockholm, now that looks ok, but it is not a normal timezone.
I changed it to Stockholm, Berlin, ... the standard timezone and once again I got a fix fast and easy.
The thing that you get a gray screen is that you our somewere in the middle of the earth according to the GPS, you notice this if you could see the coordinates and altitude.
I have iGo in my Diamond, but the problem was the same when using Google maps so it wasn't a problem with the program.
I have also changed my iGo to have a manually selected time zone, because I'm not sure if it might be iGo that made the change for me.
But now all my GPS works splendid, and I have a fix within 15 seconds.
i do have similar problems.. but it only happens when i'm in the dense core of downtown toronto where all the tall buildings are..
I think it's because the tall buildings are blocking the signal somewhat that is why your GPS kept on running out or coordinates and relocating itself again

I am in rural Scotland actually, the only high buildings here are castles which are miles away .. so this must be something different.
Neither it seems to be dependent on the sky nor battery level ...
p.s. testing new radio, so far so good ..
Just some feedback from testing: the original problem seems to be solved, but now I've got something much worse - sometimes TomTom freezes several second after the launch, and nothing can be done apart from restarting to bring it back. Don't know if this is a radio's or ROM's issue as I have changed both. Reinstalling TomTom from .cab did not help.
Anyone had similar experience ?

Hard reset maybe will help
Yes it may, but 3 days before holiday I do not want to be installing everything from scratch. I could try another ROM too if not this.
Tried - atifix, starting with bluetootsh on, wanted to reconfigure GPS setting in TomTom, but can't get there yet ... must be either BT or GPS connectivity

Updated radio to the latest 1.15.25.14 with 1.15.25.35 rilphone, made no difference at all ..
I think I found it - G-Profile service was the cause of the problem. Once I stopped it, TomTom has got 100% starting rate. It's a pity, was a nice small app to have.
Hello,
I had some freezes on bootloader.
Searching a solution on this forum, I updated my Kaiser 130 with a 3.29hard2 patched HSPL. I installed the PDACorner v8 rom, set my all stuff and made a backup with SPB Backup 2.
Since this time, every day, my Kaiser lose the contacts, the programs and calendar. The settings still remain. It happens while my ppc is USB connected to my PC, some hours after a sucessfull synchronization.
After each "crash", I restore the full system and settings with SPB backup.
Today, I thought the problem was on my Activesync 4.5. So, I removed it, reboot my PC and install Activesync again. I removed the activesync's settings on my PPC and launched a new partnership with synchronization.
But my PPCfinally "crashed" some hours after.
I hope you can really help me.
I tried HSPL 3.29hard2 and 3.34 ; radio 1.71 and 1.70 ; PDAcorner V8 rom and some others ; without success.
Greetings.
Restoring full setting might be a problem! What OS was your backup and what OS are you restoring it to?
I forgot to mention that.
Of course, I only used my backup on the same OS it was made.
Clearly, I didn't use the SPB backup's possibility to restore my settings on an updated or different rom.
The crazy thing is that the first synchronization is succesful and that my PPC seems to run normally until it crashes.
After each crash, I need to hard reset my Kaiser to reboot normally again (with all items in programs, Start, etc.)
I don't remember if I tried to set my all stuff manually instead of restoring with SPB. In fact, I'm just doing this try since this afternoon and all seems OK at the moment.
some bad news
I was trying my Kaiser's stability since yesterday afternoon, after a hard reset and without a SPB backup.
This morning I was thinking the problem was due to the restore of SPB.
But my PPC just crashes. So I have to search a new explanation.
Thanks for your help
strange... i have the same problem.
ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
i'm not alone !!!!!!!!
sorry... and welcome to my club !
Actually I have the following roms on the Kaiser :
- SPL 3.34
- radio 1.71.09.01
- PDA Corner V8 (win 6.1)
and Activesync 4.5 on the PC.
My ppc crashed so frequently during the last days that Activesync is totally lost with the two partnerships it can manage. I tried to completely uninstall this soft two days ago, but without success... for the Kaiser's stability, I mean.
I have to mention that I only attempted to create partnerships with the same PC, my work's one. Tomorrow I will connect the ppc only for synchronization instead of the usual all the day's connection.
Are your crash's conditions similar with mine ?
similar issues
i have had similar issues, I never worked out what was causing it exactly... it happens if i sync with active sync and even worse i have lost my whole sd card once (it's ok i backup, phew). I assumed i had caused the problem by using advanced config to move some of the basic file storage and caching to the sd card. in the end i have switched to Google sync for my contacts and calender and use Bluetooth to transfer files between pc and ppc. I had initially also thought it had something to do with sprite back up, so i had stopped using it. wondering if you have moved cache and default file locations too? cos maybe active sync has an issue with this (maybe a delay writing to the sd card?) jst speculating really. since i switched to google sync i dont have a use for active sync at all....

No, I didn't.
I usually only change minor settings (regional settings, owner informations, ringtone, etc.) after a flash or a hard reset.
I made backup to speed up my ppc's customization, especially since crashes happened more and more frequently (ppc was under non patched HSPL 3.56).
I really think that two problems are chaining in my case. The first was my Kaiser's instability, due to the couple HSPL & TPCElite rom, which caused a great shake in my partnerships. The second is due to Activesync, I think, but I don't have any evidence at this time.
So, I just made two synchronizations today.
I have disconnected my Kaiser after each one.
And the ppc didn't crash again.
Hey guys,
Just moved this over to kaiser general, Wanted to keep the rom dev section a bit cleaner since this isn't really related to rom development.
Peace,
Josh
Joshkoss :
Sorry, I firstly thought my problem was a rom's one.
Finally, it appears that my crashes became from my PC's connection even I don't know why.
So, you are right !
This post shall not stay in rom section anymore.
