Complete backup of Diamon - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV General

Hi there!
After having a HTC Touch Cruise I am a proud owner of a Diamond now, it seems that Cruises don't really like being dipped in water ;-)
I'm wanting to upgrade my diamond from the factory ROM/Radio 1.37.404.3 NLD / 1.00.25.03 to the new one distributed through HTC with radio 1.00.25.05. I've done this before on the Cruise, but I was able to make a FULL backup first of the complete ROM.
Since it is recommended by you guys here to use HardSPL these days, I want to upgrade my bootloader too. All the procedures are clear as glass here, so no problem ... but, where I used to be able to find a walkthrough on how to backup everything (Bootloader/Radio/ROM) for my Cruise, I cannot find it for the Diamond.
How can I perform a complete backup of my Diamond, so that in a case of needed support from HTC, I can simply flash everything back to the exact state of today, and hand the device in?
I've already used Sprite, distributed by HTC, but since it uses only one file as a result, I am assuming this is the ROM only?
Thx!

Orange TyTnII change ROM to HTC Original

Hi all, first post on this site so bear with me. I have been reading all the posts regarding upgrading/changing ROM's from original HTC or carrier ROM to tweaked ROM's etc. The message can get quite confusing so before I take the plunge I'm hoping someone can clear something up for me. I have the Orange (UK) branded TyTnII (Kaiser?) and would like to have the original HTC ROM instead. I have already downloaded this from elsewhere on the forum. I am guessing that this will also change the current radio ROM. Some posts indicate that you must have the phone unlocked before doing this and others that you just need to install the hard SPL to change the ROM. The last thing I want is to have a locked phone, so could anyone advise which of two claims are correct?
You must use hardSPl and then you can flash every rom you want ...
TQM
1. Install HardSPL
2. ...you can install all the ROM you want !
If you flash the radio, then your orange phone will be locked, and will cost you to get it unlocked. I made this mistake, lucky for me, Orange love me so much they sent me a new one
With the new one, I have flashed roms, just make sure they don't change the radio, and you'll be fine.
Ps. You still need to flash HardSPL first.
Ran hard SPL, then ran the HTC ROM now phone is sim locked, which is what I feared. Where can I get the unlock code from? Would like ASAP, Orange take around 2 weeks to provide this.
http://www.imei-check.co.uk/kaiser-unlock.php
This site didn't work for me, I contacted them, and they're aware of the problem, and are working on a fix, it has worked for the majority of people though, and its what everyone else recommends, it'll cost your £20.
Thanks for the quick response, I have followed the instructions on the web site but phone will not connect to active sync as it reports it is locked. Any suggestions?
When mine was locked, it would still connect to activesync, then when I ran their software, it'd crash active-sync and reboot my phone.
I don't know how to get your phone to connect to active-sync, but it can be done, perhaps someone else has a suggestion?
A hard reset has allowed my phone to connect to active sync (phew!) Just waiting for the code. I will let you know how it goes
Recieved unlock code, all now working again, thank goodness. The HTC ROM is an improvement over the Orange one so worthwhile doing. A big thank you to everyone who was kind enough to help out
Glad to hear you got it working

I've just upgraded from a hermes which I hardSPL'd without any issues, so I have previous experiance with flashing roms however I've been having problems installing hardSPL on my tytnII and i keep getting a white screen ?
has anybody had any issues with the orange 1.81.61.2 WWE Rom Version and HardSPL.
i've read a number of posts with regards the "alternative" methods have all resulted in the same "white Screen".
Any help would be appriciated because i HATE the Orange icons.
jdennington ..... how are you finding the original HTC Rom compaired to the "Oranged" version ??
I used the methods described here, they worked for me when I had the same issue you did:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=354061
jdennington:
Just wondered what difference you noticed changing from Orange to HTC ROM, apart from the cosmetic ones. By changing menu options, installing multitudinous cab files and tweaking various settings, I have made it such that you would be hard pressed to find any sign of Orange on my phone. As such, i have not bothered with a ROM flash.
Just wondered if you have noticed any performance gains from the flash, or is it just the cosmetic gain you were after?
HTC ROM Tytn II
Hi, looks as though I'm in the same boat but in Australia. My HTC Tytn II was purchased in Hong Kong and now I get an error when trying to install TomTom 6 that says incorrect ROM version? I have blackberry running as well (don't know if that interferes or not). Anyway, does it mean I have to change my ROM to original HTC Tytn II ROM to avoid the Hong Kong version (they told me it was the English version though) and other things work. Please help as I'm out of my depth here.
Annie
anyone knows about schaps_wm6pro_kaiser_4.22_full
Thanks

I cant say I have noticed any improvement with response now that the HTC ROM is loaded. However there are a few applications that were not on the Orange ROM that I now have. The look and feel of the phone seems so much better, oh and this morning was the first time I was able to hear a caller whilst using a bluetooth hands free ear piece. I'm not a fan of the cooked ROM's but thats a personal preference, from what I read, there are some very successful ones out there giving a lot of users a much improved Kaiser.
How to Unlock Kaiser
Hi Everybody, I already ran the HardSPL on my Kaiser (which is from Orange). Right now I'm in Colombia but I don't really know how to get the new ROM and how do I do to charge it into the PDA. Of course, my fear is that it is SIM locked. Where can I get the htc ROM and the instructions to load it? THANX

So many question :)

I own the Vodafone version of the HTC Diamond:
Rom 1.37.161.2 WWE
Radio 1.00.25.03
The devise was working very well until I installed Diamond Tweaks and changed the Theme to HTC Black. The devise become very slow and completely unusable and it totally messed my custom city weather, which I can no longer manually select a new city due to "File write protection couldn't removed" error, even after reinstallation.
I have reset the theme to default and removed bloody Diamond tweaks but the devise still feels below par and Weather database still won't load.
I was was considering a hard reset but have a few questions:
Will the reset remove all my apps? (Advanced config, Gsen, Vodafone Satnav etc.)
Will it remove the Vodafone connection ssetting? (Is there a way I can back these up first?)
On another subject, I have been reading about the updated Official Rom's/Radio's and Hard SPL and to be fair don't understand any of it lol.
I would like to put the newest (best working) Rom/Radio on, especially if this meant it would debrand the phone but I would want to retain the Vodafone connection settings and I rather do like the Vodafone Satnav software and I fear this would disappear, is there some where i can download it separately? And is there a tutorial with exact instructions on how to update the Rom and Radio and back up setting?
Sorry for all the questions and I know some one will say search forum but I have read over 73 pages of forum data and didn't find what I want. Thanks in advance.
Welcome
But come on, not finding most of the things in 73 pages? If it removes your programms is stated in the MANUAL. You know that thing that everybody finds scary for some reason. And in the 73 pages you didn't find a link to modmydiamond or something like that? The vodafone setting i dont know. I have a unbranded one
As expected, some helpful advice, have seen Modmydiamond link no help for me and as for reading the manual, there isn't one, have Getting started guie, which does say see chapter 13 of user manual for Hard rest procedures and what it will actually do. But no hard copy or files on installation disc.
how much did you paid for it(if it's not a secret),because i plan to buy htc touch diamond.
is it slow?
how long baterry can handle?
Confusion !
First of all, Hello !

To avoid any misunderstanding (you must be precise) : I think you are talking about Diamond TF3D Config wich is not the same as Diamond Tweak, another app.
Also, you should post it in the appropriate thread...
Thanks to correct that.
Got it free on Vodafone Upgrade, they did want to charge me £140 for it but have a friend who works at Voda and they told me to cancel my contract and wait till they phone me back and surely enough some guy phoned and offered it free to me.
@MonteCristoffOn apologies for putting in wrong place and yes your correct it is the Diamond TF3D Config that messed everything, oh and hello
you are really lucky htc for free!!!
and what about batterry and perfomanse??
Battery is not too good, doesn't last at all, goes to about half battery at the end of the day, would probably last longer if i stopped playing with it . Performance is quite good, once you put Advanced Config on it, which works really well.
Here's a hint:
Just make sure you delete EVERY manila theme file on your \windows directory.
Leaving any of them behind can make your device go bonkers. Happened to me too...
Perhaps your restore on the TF3D config didnt work well...
the problem is i dont understand what is manila theme
Manila is TouchFlo 3D. Please stay on topic.
Have completed re-set the phone now and it's working sweet again I hear that Vodafone are working on updated ROM themselves, which may be out later this year, so will apply there's when it's complete.
After actually having the Original Black Manila for a bit, I decided don't like it and the Voda version is clearer. So will stick that for the time being .
OT anyone know what the time interval is for the Weather updating when automatic update is set and if the value can be changed via reg hack or app?
vodafone knows how to make the HTC Diamond very slow
I went from 1.37 "Vodafone rom" to 1.93 NL without all the Vodafone stuff and now its really fast! I only had to reinstall Tomtom 7 as it was preinstalled on the Vodafone rom.
No problems left except for the battery. I just ordered a spare original battery (35€), problems solved.
(btw i bought it for 95€, 2year Vodafone, 18€ a month.)

At&t Tilt ROM upgrade...question...

Hi all,
Sorry if this is a report. I've had my At&t tilt for 10 months now on the original wm6.0 rom. Lately it's been slow and thought about upgrading to wm6.1 and start from scratch. I read the rom development threads but the steps involve with flashing a rom seems so complicated that I am afraid it'll just kill my phone. I don't really need any fancy rom/radio etc. Just wanted the new features on wm6.1. I went through the At&t site for the ROM upgrade and got this link.
http://www.htc.com/us/SupportDownload.aspx?p_id=67&cat=2&dl_id=94
Can I just follow this, upgrade from 6.0 to 6.1 and then restore settings from Sprite Backup?
Thanks...

That is the latest Tilt 6.1 upgrade. Just follow the instructions and you will be all set.
If you do want a speedy full featured phone that you will love. mskip has made flashing as easy as upgrading a stock rom. Check it out
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=433835
Then check out these roms, all great
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=492866
The settings you back up with Sprite back up will not be compatible with WM 6.1
I would use PIM Backup 2.8
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=299705&highlight=PIM+Back
It's not recomended that you pull a backup on a new OS from an older one (even though some backup programs have this feature). Installing hardspl isn't as complicated as it seems; read the instructions above in the first link several times until you feel that you have a good grasp of what you're doing. If you're stuck at a place, feel free to PM me or post is mskip's thread.

Thanks. Will the 6.1 speed up my phone? I read the first few pages of mskip's flashing rom and it just look "scary". Reading how some people flash it and the phone doesn't work anymore. I've been reluctant to upgrade because everything works now but if wm6.1 has new feature and speeds it up, I figure I can give it a shot. So PIM Backup will restore all my settings and all I have to do is install the 3rd party softwares?

No, PIM Backup will only backup your PIM information as mentioned by the program's name. You'll need SPB or Sprite Backup to backup the whole device (which again, is not recommended).
You won't realize a big difference from going to stock 6.0 to stock 6.1, however you will see one from stock 6.0 to custom 6.1

Hmmm...if it's not a big difference then maybe I should wait for wm6.5 or wm7.
What about a hard reset?

If you were happy with it when you got it new, then just back up your important data and hard reset it. That will take it back to an as new configuration (with speed to match). I've tried the HTC official Windows Mobile 6.1 'upgrade' for the TyTN II (the HTC branded version of the Tilt) and it was so full of bugs and problems that it's now back running the original WM 6.0 version again. If you rely at all on the GPS functionality of your device, WM 6.0 will likely perform far better (at least it does with mine). Hard reset and see how much it speeds up again. If you need to know how to hard reset it, that's covered in your users manual (at least it is with the TyTN II or here on xdas wiki).
Remember the old adage, if it ain't broke, don't try to fix it

I agree with the "ain't broke, don't fix it", thus I still have wm6.0. Yes, I use GPS all the time. I also have a lot of 3rd party software that are all customized so I hate having to configure it again. Does hard reset wipe everything?
All the add-ons are likely the cause of the slowdown - are they all NEEDED?

Yes it puts it back to exactly like new (except for the total call timers which aren't reset). This is all explained in the wiki (click the link in the brown bar on this website). Whatever you do, if you want all the extra apps you've loaded (probably the cause of the slowdown), you'll still have to reinstall them all anyway so have your install files/media ready.
Although you can make backups of your data, it's always preferable to have your system as lightly loaded for maximum speed so think about whether you really need and use each app before loading it on. If you rely on GPS alot and want to keep an original configuration, if the AT&T setup is anything like the HTC original setup, you're better off with WM 6.0. Test the speed after the hard reset then install each app and test for a day - one at a time, noting down the significant times you'd noticed slowness with under your current setup. This should help to weed out the culprits that hog the most resources.

Yes, it makes the phone back to " out of the box " settings. You will have to reinstall all your apps. But if you don't up to 6.1 you will be able to use sprite back up, and is it worth it to make your phone zippier ?
Honestly man,
Flash your tilt to the 6.1 stock rom. If it has any issues call customer service and complain until they tell you to go to the warranty depot/send a replacement.
I flashed the official stock rom onto my Tilt when I got it. The battery was always WRONG. It always told me 3 bars unless it was <30%. Also I developed issues with battery life and keeping Time. After some prodding they replaced my phone. My new Tilt is soo awesome, Battery life is on 3 days now with lite-moderate use (turned off 3g), battery is accurate.

There's a recommendation for you. Upgrade to 6.1 so that it can crap your phone out. And then you can go through all the hassle of dealing with AT$T warranty and maybe eventually you can get a new ( refurb ) phone out of it.
I'd do it
LOL little did I know I was experiencing issues from a bad flash. I thought wm 6.1 was sucky by default. Not to mention I had dinged up my phone and gotten a nasty screen scratch and one on the front of the phone. All the more incentive to use that warranty. The AT&T warranty is awesome!
Were Tilt's shipping with 6.1 before being replaced by the Fuze, or did you have to update after you bought it? A buddy just bought one and he's a total noob, when it comes to WM. I asked him if it has 6.1 and he doesn't know. I haven't got to play with the phone myself. It is supposedly about 4-5 months old.
Thanks in advance.

I believe AT$T released 6.1 for the Tilt in August. If he wants to check, just go to Start>settings>system>about and that will tell him which version he has.

HTC Touch Diamond Rom Upgrade Needed

Hi. I have an Orange HTC Touch Diamond and HTC say I need to upgrade to the latest ROM update to resolve a specific issue that’s making my phone almost impossible to use. The problem is that they won’t supply the ROM update because my phone is branded Orange. Orange doesn’t offer any ROM updates because they're useless so either way I’m stuck. The tech chap at Orange said to look around the web and find the download from somewhere else which is what I’m trying to do. Can anyone help? Perhaps someone can download the latest (Feb 09) update and let me have it?
Regards,
John
See ROOM "Diamond ROM developements" where you could find all you need.
The process is reversible but I'm interesting about Tech Chap at Orange: to mount a no brand ROM on a branded it you must chance SPL, this change void warranty...
D'rath
Stock ROMs really are quite poor. I would recommend the ROM in my signature. I have tried most of the WM6.1 ROMs and this one is absolutely flawless. Don't forget though, read up on how to flash first, it's painless and quick if you just follow the instructions. Everything you need is here
Thanks Blibble.
I'm on the case now with your info but am concerned about the various ROM packs that seem to be available. My phone is fine but the problem I have is that it answers calls in my pocket because the screen automatically activates when a call comes in. The latest HTC ROM upgrade apparently fixes this by the need of a sideways swish across the screen to either answer or reject the call rather than just a tap. I'm concerned enough about upgrading my phone but even more so now by an unknown ROM upgrade. What would you recommend?
Thanks,
John
There isn't a "best" ROM! You read 3D about some ROMs then decide and try
D'rath
Thanks, I do realise that but unless the ROM includes this particular fix to stop calls being answered in my pocket - which can be very embarrassing not to mention annoying, there's not much point in me upgrading. So I just need to know how I find out if the fix has been included in these upgrades in the way it has been in the latest HTC upgrade.
S2u2
If you download S2U2 and install it to your phone, that should help you with the problem you are having. It's not a cure, but a good program that runs when a call comes in or when you lock your phone.

Will WM6.5 work on my phone?

I've got a Sprint Touch Diamond with WM6.1 that's a year old. Can I download WM6.5 and have it work on my phone? Is there a possibility that it will damage my phone? I'm afraid that if I install WM6.5 and update the ROM (of whatever else needs to be done) that I'll mess my phone up...
Sorry to ask, but I've never updated the ROM or anything like that, so this is all new to me. I've added in a few small programs from here and gotten some good wallpaper photos.

yes and No my friend. you won't screw-up your phone as long as you follow the tutorials for unlocking & flashing. WM6.5 by itself can't do any harm to your phone.
but you can damage your phone if you flash a ROM( 6.1-6.5) from other device. specially with the diamond people may get confused because there are two different models (gsm/cdma). ie if yoy flash a gsm rom into a cdma phone for sure you'll brick it. both are diamonds but there are totally different hardware.
this forum is for diamond-cdma models also call Victor so you can unlock/flash a 6.5 rom into your phone without any problem if your phone is a diamond-cdma phone (without sim).
read this great tutorial:

Another thing, it might seem difficult at first, but it will become easy as time goes on. I have Windows Mobile 6.5 on my HTC Touch Diamond, and I'm on Sprint, so I just want to let you know yes, it's possible. =]
My phone is BELL HTC TOUCH DIAMOND (CDMA). My only question is: can I go back?
Yes, just unlock your phone.
You can go back to the Stock ROM if needed.
