[HELP] Closest thing to hard reset without hard reseting - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV General

Hey, i'd like to restore my default settings without hard reseting, i dont wanna redo all my contacts and they're pictures and such, and certain things i'd like to keep, just basicly that advanced config program made my phone a little stupid, and i want it back to normal... ya..

Advanced config does have the option to "Restore all settings" altough i've never used that function myself, and i'm not sure if it will reset only the ones that you have changed since opening the program.
alternativley you could back-up your contacts, appointment, and basically everything except the registries (which are your problem) and then do a hard reset.
Personally i would recommend "Resco Backup" (google it, it will be the first post. when in that page select the drop down "compatibility" and choose windows) for doing... backups. you can download a trial of it, which is all you need in your case (I think it's a set amount of restores and you only need 1)
Hope this helps, and sorry if that was incredibly hard to follow

What files to backup before a hard reset for Personal settin

What files do I need to backup before I hard reset so I dont have the 2-3 hours to set everything backup.
I like playing withit and trying new things but anm getting tired of trying to
put everything back the way I like it, some lesser used things take a wek or so before i stumble across them and fix them.
I am wanting to keep things like
Email settings and email I had saved
Owner Info
Device ID
Speed dial
Assigned ring tones
Font size
back light
IP Addresses for Wifi
Directory structure (moved a few lightly used itemd to a misc folder to clear up the programs directory)
Start menu items
Today screen
etc. (all I can think of now)
Any help will be greatly appreciated
Thanks
This is something I wanna learn too
Just use a backup soft like Sprite Backup.
BUT THAT WILL RESTORE EVERYTHING LIKE i HAVE IT NOW.
i LIKE TO CHANGE THINGS BUT KEEP MY SETTINGS AND PREFERENCES THE SAME.
Sprite and Sbp Backup both allow you to only restore the PIM data etc.
...create fullbackup to save everything now with i.e. SQB Backup. Perform hard reset and prepare it like you want. Create backup.
Do you thingies and create incremental backups and save with i.e. name of changes. You can then always go back to earlier stages. I use it all the time.
If you need something what's not installed in your new backup then it's gonna cost ya 10 min. to get back in earlier stage...
Ok I did not know they did backups like that I will try it.
Hmm... very interested in this myself as I think I want to get rid of all O2 software (as much as I like O2 I believe their software is unecassary and slows the system down is this correct?), without losing all my personalised settings.
Just two things though...
1) what are/is PIM data/settings?
2) I have read on either this forum or AV forums that I need to input certain settings manually when doing a corporate install ( to completely get rid of O2 software), it also listed what these settings were, but I can't seem to find the post now?
thanks
Matt :?
From what I can find Sprite and SPB define PIM data as tasks and appointments. I have that in outlook with my first sync.
How do I restore all my personal settings and information that is not involved with a sync ?
I to have reached that conclusion...
ah well here's goes nothing with a hard reset! I'll just have to spend hours trying to get everything back to what it was settings wise!
Here goes... I'll let you know how I get on........
Great!
I followed the instructions in the manual, they didn't work, so I followed some instructions from AV Forums, they didn't work either!! My XDA won't die! Good in some respects but how can I hard reset????
Matt  :?:
Well I tried SPB and it did not get what I wanted.
Mostly I got what I would get after a sync.
Any more ideas ?
To clarify I an tired of all the fiddeling I have to do after a hard reset to get all my settings and info back.
I do not mind loading programs but an tired of setting up email accounts
Fonts, Rings, Speed dials etc.
Hooray... hard reset completed, now in corporate mode. Took me about an hour to get everything back to normal, but then I suppose I've only had the machine just over a week so not that much to reset really.

Recently Used Apps menu

Can someone tell me how to "clear" the recently used apps when you hit the start menu? I find it cluttering and would like to clear it if not eliminate it altogether. Any ideas? Thanks!
sometimes help soft reset, but not everytime..
there is a software.. called.. "clearmenu", or "clearitem".. or just "clear" which is attached to many cooked rom, that is to be installed to your Windows/Startup folder.. which will clear everything in your most recent used list on every soft reset. You can clear it without soft reset, in case you are wondering. and soft reset will not do the job if you dont have the software.
i do not want to spam this thread and discuss it with you, but do not agree with

interesting.. but can I check with you the OS that you are using? Or, better still, you just go into your "\Windows\Start up\" to check if there are anything there, that starts with a 'clear'?
Anyway, since you said "sometimes" soft reset works, I would assume that it is not a repeatable process. If that's the case, probably that the 'sometimes' is the case where the regsitry got messed up and the 'recent used list' gone, and hence coincidently it worked as you wanted to.
Anyway, it is quite a new discovery, but just check with me the `start up` menu (better still, list everything there, can't be too much stuff there), to see if there are any working ones there.
ok, what i want to say is that clearing with apps you mentioned is not only one solution and as you correctly typed, it is done only "sometimes" and i was never trying find out when this happened (or why). now correct?
Help
Ok, guys, there has to be a better way to clean out the recently used apps menu. Anyone???
there is a registry hack... anyone????
Use MortScript and create a text file called cleanup.mscr and place the following in there:
Code:
ErrorLevel off
RegDeleteKey HKCU,Software\Microsoft\Shell\TaskSwitch,1,1
Place this file in \Windows\StartUp and it will clean up the Recent Menu Items in the Start Menu at every reboot.
big thanks!
do you happen to know the reg location of "recent programs" listed in "start"?
Delete the string entries in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Shell\TaskSwitch then soft-reset. That'll get rid of the recently used app list on the Start Menu.
I have been using the attached file since I had my Wizard and it works great on my Kaiser too! Just put the "startclean.exe" in your "\windows\startup" folder and it will remove the most recently used apps from the menu after each soft reset.
Someone posted this file a long time ago and I can no longer find the thread.
Use this program !!
http://mobile-sg.com/software/?p=ClearTemp&platform=ppc
soft reset is OPTIONAL !!
Maybe I am overlooking something... but, is there a way to permanently prevent recently used applications from showing up in the Start menu?
Thanks!

Help! Mysterious hard reset!

I didn't find anything about this in the forum and I was hoping that someone could help me. Basically I soft resetted my device (used the stylus and hit the deeply embedded button) but when it booted up, it ran the setup that it does when you first turn on the phone or if you do a hard reset. I mistakenly ran through the calibration and finally it booted up with the bloatware and original settings. The weird thing is, all my files and programs are present but all my registry has been reset. Also I cannot open SKTools, the latest program that which I installed. But, this didn't happen right after I installed it. It was after a couple of days.
I did however accidentally selected "restore settings to default" or something like that under "Tune up!" in SKTools. But this weird hard-reset paradox didn't happen right after I did that. It was much later. So it may or may not be the cause of this. Also I cannot seem to open SKTools but I can open everything else that doesn't require any registry... =[ Also, some app files are missing but some things are left like shortcuts? I'm not really sure...
At least my contacts, calendar reminders, and everything else is still saved.
btw I do not have a backup file or anything (yeah I know I gotta) but I guess I was careless ='[...
Someone please help, is there a way I can restore it- maybe an automatic restore image is hiding somewhere???

I think a hard reset is the recommended way to remove it. And no, a hard reset will not remove your rom, it will put it back like you just finished flashing.
NO U DONT HAVE TO HARD RESET
why go thru all that when there's an easier way.
what u need to do is:
1. dl and install sktools
2. make sure its not active on ur today screen
3. use sktools to uninstall it and soft reset once its done.
tadaaaa
Trial and error method!
Hi all,
My trial and error method which worked is to uninstall all the apps which came with Manilla2D, e.g. new comm manager, audio manager, etc. Ignore any messages that say "not completely uninstalled". Then, uninstall Manilla2D in the normal way, you will of course get the usual "not completely uninstalled" message. Select "No" to removing from list of installed applications. Then re-install the same Manilla2D cab file that you installed before. You will see the message: "The previous version will be uninstalled..." select to continue, then you will get a second message saying: "The previous version was not completely uninstalled...do you want to continue..." at which you should select to do so. The "install" will take about 3 or 4 minutes then if you are not prompted to restart your device at the end of the installation, you should do so anyway. When your device restarts it should be M2D free. N.B. one thing that seemed to help this process was preventing the device going to stand by during the whole process, by plugging it in or changing the power auto-off settings.
This method is not proven so it may not work on your device.
N.B. I am using ROMeOS 4.6.0. If you do need to hard reset your device I recommend this ROM anyway.
Best wishes,

Yes, after trying various things to remove Manila (including trying to install it again as suggested in another post) the only thing that worked for me was sktools BUT - even after SKTOOLs removed it, it left behind various side effects which took me two more days to get rid of
(i) I use Nadavi_Task_Manager_2_0_31261 . Its onscreen quick menu was spoiled. I had to remove and re-install it to get it back to normal
(ii) HTC Home - many things were screwed up, all teh phone numbers i had set up on the Favorite People tab were gone and I could not add any number. The weather tab had stopped working altogether. I had to install a patched version of HTC Home I found on these forums (not because I knew what I was doing but because I did not know what else to do!!)
So after all that I am wondering whether it would have been just easier to do a hard reset and restore from a back up (which as it happens I had taken just minutes before installing Manilla)

wow the first i heard of anything like this before..thats just crazy
ive de-installed and re-installed plenty of times prior to having manila on a rom with no issues, even during the opening hours of the coding release we had.
did u run the sktools clean up after de-installing?
registry cleaner as well?
and i presume u soft resetted as well? as the instructions say to do.
also u have to understand m2D isnt just a theme..its an app that takes over whatever else u had on ur today screen, just like any other app and also its not perfected we're still trying to get there, we're damn near close..but not at 100% just yet.
Whenever I get the "not completely uninstalled, would you like to remove from list of programs?" message, I just choose "No", soft reset, then uninstall the program once again. Works every time.
Hi guys,
I tried to uninstall Manilla2D too, and I used Sktools. But when i came to "Installed Programs" i couldnt see Manilla there. There were only 2 programs there: Microsoft Windows Mobile 6.1, and SK Software SKtools.
Please tell me how to uninstall it. Im really sick ot it now...
Thanks

tf3d timeout and does not restart

Hi, I am running both spb mobile and tf3d on the rc elite system. I recently installed the cleanram and used the level 2 quality purge. After using this, my TF3d stopped working and all i see is the HTC logo when i try to switch back to tf3d. The tf3d tab is selected in the today menu.
the tf3d will start working after a soft reset but by the end of the day, it will timeout and tf3d will not startup until the next soft reset. I also tried to restore my settings to where they were before with the last backup and it still happens. I looked all over the forum and and tried to search it within the forum with no luck. Please help.
Thanks
I doubt cleanram had anything to do with it, since you can get it going again with a reboot. I've had this happen when I restored pim.vol without shutting down tf3d. I have a feeling that you did a bad restore at some point. You didn't do a full restore with a backup from an old rom after the flash, did you? That's a ggod way to mess up tf3d. Or, did you install a tf3d theme without shutting it down? Even a simple thing like adding a clock can screw up manila if you don't do it right.

the tf3d timingout and not restarting happened right after I had used the cleanram. I was thinking maybe the cleanram had deleted something i needed and my backup didn't restore it back. I flashed the elite rom over 6 months with no problems and have not done a restore since after my tf3d started screwing up. And i did not do a restore when i flashed my rom on my phone. I also did not install a tf3d theme. I have even gone to the tf3d config and selected the reset/restore settings thing and it still doesn't fix things. I do not know what else to do besides do a hard reset without restoring anything, but would be my last option and do not wanna lose all my stuff.
Thanks
That is seriously weird. I'm not sure how cleanram could've deleted any files, though. All the manila files should be in rom, unless it was installed with a cab (either by you or during the bootup customization-that seems unlikely, though).
It may just be time for a hard reset, though. Six months is a long time to go without one. You can always do a full backup, hard reset, then do a full restore. The worst case scenario is that you'll be right back where you started. But, I would say there's a decent chance that you'll be ok. When you do a full restore, files and reg settings are added, but things are not normally deleted. So if you did manage to delete something important (like a registry key), then it should come back from the dead.
ok...I was thinking a full restore again would be best..lol. So should I do a hard reset and then a full restore or can I just do a full restore? I had just done a full restore and not a hard reset. I never thought doing both might make a difference compare to just doing one.
Yeah, definitely do the hard reset first. Most backup programs will tell you only to do the restore right after a hard reset. It can cause major issues if you do the restore without doing the hard reset.
