so i was usaing my tytn II, everything was OK, then suddenly it started like lagging, it took a really looooong time to load the built in Destinator GPS, and i was like wtf???
then, any app i wanna run, it takes a long time, contacts, calendar
the messaging. if i want to compose an SMS, and open the full qwerty keyb, and if i start the SMS with the letter "a", the smartphone freezes, if i start with the "L" the system restarts, havent tried all the letters but im pretty sure somethings wrong LOL
incoming calls takes forever to take the call when in standby mode, its just frustrating really
do u think this is a virus? or more like... something else
can anyone help plz?
btw, this is my first post and i just find this forum amazing, lots of cool stuff to upgrade my phone with! thnx u all!
try soft resetting it , and then see what happens...is this a stock rom ?

Hey guys
I was wondering, I've noticed that no matter which ROM I flash onto my kaiser, after a couple of weeks it slows down tonnes, it gets really really bad interface lag and all, but after a flash it is speedy and responsive. I was wondering to what extent having lots of SMSs stored and call logs might effect this but it seems in my mind that it should be negligible.
Is this a known bug with a fix or do I just need to reflash every week?
Thanks guys

What Hard SPL version are you using?
You should be using Hard SPL 3.* for WM6.1 ROMs.

3.29 ... it's confusing
On the newest dk4 though, whatever that is. Might flash to DK5 later today if I have the willpower lol.
My guess is theres some service trying to do something with the sms messages like indexing and when you have 500 messages it just uses so much system resources everything slows down.
That would explain why when you type to search for a text the results are almost instant. But really the feature isn't that good to justify it being this slow.
You running it with zero installed apps? I'd guess something is misbehaving.
I would assume if you hard reset, the problem completely goes away? I can't imagine it being fixed by flashing.
My Tilt has its fits.. Sometimes it moves very slow and a reset may or may not mostly fix it, other times it just blazes with zero lag. If I look in MemMaid, I see no CPU hogs, ram is reasonable, etc.. Static 6M pagepool... Oh well.
A soft reset almost always fixes it going slow for me. I've never hard reset, certainly not reflashed to get it back up to norm.
Hard reset doesn't really speed it up, but return to m'facturer settings does. Unless that is a hard reset lol. Basically - turning on/off doesn't speed up but holding down softkeys at bootup and clearing off data like you do when you flash does speed it up.
I'm not running it with 0 aps though, I get the bundled apps with the roms. But really its never really mattered which ROM it is.
After deleting a few hundred messages manually, it's sped up dramatically, so I'm going to push the boat out and guess it is actually the SMSs that is slowing it down.
Well, there are several things that will help slow the phone down.
sms messages
lengthy call logs
Temporary internet files
programs that are not totally closed when you close them (check out task manager or battery status)
Things like this slow it down. Oh and a hard reset takes it back to factory.

<pedantic>Hard reset resets it back to the ROM defaults. Factory isn't quite the right word, since he's using a cooked rom.</pedantic>
It seems weird that just 'more data' will slow things down. I mean if you have a PC with a data hard disk, it shouldn't matter whether it has 1gb of files or 500gb of files, the PC should still run just as fast for everything except the tasks which must directly deal with the files i.e. search / defragmentation and that kind of thing.
I'll just remember to delete my SMS messages frequently now, I guess. Seems a shame since the Nokia N95 has no problems holding hundreds and this is supposed to be a superior phone.

There must be some behind-the-scenes processing going on with messages, and other data -- perhaps the phone has to sort them -- who knows?
Anyway when I get a message (which isn't too often) I delete it right away -- and if I need to keep it as a note or a reminder then I'll type it in as a note or as a task.
Which reminds me -- how come we don't have a context menu to turn a SMS or MMS into a new contact, note, task or calendar item??
I can confirm the SMS theory. I think threaded SMS are particularly responsible for slowing down the device. I basically have one person i talk to mostly, which has a very very long threaded sms (basically weeks of SMS in one thread) and my device got very slow and unresponsive as well. This becomes particularly clear when you try to WRITE a SMS! Typing lags, the menu comes up slowly etc. So i deleted the sms thread (left the threads to other ppl which contained like 3-4 msgs each) and it was fine!
I think the phone loads the WHOLE sms, even the parts it doesnt show and that slows things down.
OK... I dont know how many times this answer or question has been asked on XDA, but I know for a fact that since i have had my first ever pocket pc phone, the PP-6600, which was about mid-2005, this situation has been a general problem with Virtualy everyone who has ever owned a PPC or
smartphone! (Maybe i will get my name in lights as a sticky post for this answer!!)
BUT HERES THE SITUATION... YOUR PHONE BEGINS TO GRADUALLY BECOME SLOWER. SOON ENOUGH YOU CANT EVEN SLIDE YOUR SCREEN AND ACCESS YOUR KEYBOARD WITHOUT A 30-45 SECOND DELAY, OR IN MORE EXTREME CIRCUMSTANCES YOUR PHONE BEGINS TO LOCK UP SO MUCH THAT EVEN A SOFT RESET DOESNT SOLVE THE ISSUE BUT FOR ANOTHER FEW HOURS IF THAT. ON THE MOST EXTREME LEVEL, SOME PEOPLE HAVE EXPERIENCED THEIR PHONE JUST SHUTTING DOWN AND THE WHOLE ENTIRE ROM REBOOTS ITSELF THUS FORMATTING YOUR PHONE, ERASING ALL OF YOUR CONTACTS, PROGRAMS, ETC.
Well please dont blame or consider the rom developer's anymore if you ever thought it was the Rom's fault, or even the pagepool...
But after all is said and done, my phone just lost EVERYTHING and reset itself, and I had well over 1700 messages that i really needed that had alot of important information in them! After calling HTC tech support, and even going to my MSDN buddies, i didnt find anything or any help that i didnt already know... So when i broke down and finally called T-Mobile Billing to see if they could recover in any way my messages from a server... and of course the representative said its not possible.... BUT THEN SHE SAID SOMETHING THATCOMPLETELY ANSWERS AND SOLVES THE PROBLEM OF THAT NEVER HAPPENING AGAIN!!!
For those of us who send and receive LOTS of text messages daily, weekly, monthly..... That is the problem with why our phones begin to bog down, and eventually cause us hair loss and mood changes... LOL... Depending on the model of your phone, and how much Ram it carries with it, the phones are built to AUTOMATICALLY RESET THEMSELVES, as a last resort when it begins to get overloaded with text messages... especially threaded sms, and mms... but the first symptoms of overload is gradual slowdown of how quick your phone either switches to another app, or rotates the screen, or even
keyboard response time... 75% of this is caused by your phone having too many messages stored on it! There's really nothing you can do to remedy this other than deleting half or more of your text messages when u notice this happening, or obtaining some kind of regular pc program which will allow you to sync and download all your messages to your PC and thus allowing u to delete them all from your phone, and free up the excess memory... Now I dont have any knowledge of such a program and i would really LOVE some suggestions if someone knows of such an application... But my point was to address and hopefully solve this ongoing question!...
Now the credits.... Her name is - Tonya P. - and she is now with T-Mobile Billing... but look for her to soon join us, because we talked for over an hour, and she definitely knows ALOT about HTC phones that some of us may benefit from! She used to specialize in HTC phones and was assigned at T-Mobile as a support tech for them...
OK hopefully this post will help some of you...

EDIT*******
Shortened.. but it must be explained in detail to address all the different problems which occur do to this feature...
and you can dispute it all you want fellows, but i have 10 friends who volunteered to help me test this by putting our
unlimited text messaging to the wall... Using mass SMS software, they were able to send me 1500 text messages to my HTC
8925 and that was the starting point for the phone just doing its own soft reset / for non responsiveness!....
At 1791 messages the phone shut down, and all of my customizations/contacts/programs/messages disappeared!! ... The
phone dropped to Athine OS Rom which was flashed before we started the test. But it was really a NAKED copy, which i
DID NOT flash to the phone.... and also i noticed that because of the HARD SPL... it was unable to fully format the phone so instead it just erased all my PERSONAL DATA / CUSTOMIZATIONS ... and the memory tab under settings said 116mb used ... but this has been tested and confirmed... I have no reason to make up a situation that will keep you from texting your heart out... I simply am trying to save some of you the EXTREME HASSLE that i am going through now, because i no longer have any of the information that was saved in my sms messages, and so i am about to lose $15,000 ... all because HTC never explained, or even warned that such a thing could happen!
So if its too long for you dont read it!... Im sure alot of people will thank me for going into so much detail so they could pinpoint exactly which scenario is/has occurred with their phone and can maybe prevent the disaster!

you lost me.
keep it short and sweet
Simple and short...
Delete you old text messages. The allegedly bog your phone down. I say allegedly as mine has over 1000 on there all threaded and it is still a zippy as the day I flashed it.

Yep, as above it appears (in short) that the poster is suggesting that text messages (and I guess MMS/email too) will start to fill up your storage memory, once the memory is full it may cause your Kaiser to hard reset itself.
...That sounds pretty scary. The worst I've ever had is a popup warning me that 'Storage Memory is Critically Low' - If I take action and clear out old messages/email it speeds up a bit, if I ignore it, applications freeze and the handset is unresponsive until soft-reset.
...Worth bearing a potential autonomous hard-reset in mind just in case though I guess...
Regards,
Rob.
Ok, I'm going crazy, basically my diamond ain't responding.
It's been hanging itself quite frequently lately, but I just soft resetted it and it worked fine afterwards.. until it hanged itself again and so on.
But yesterday after I did a soft reset, first TF3D wont start, that text saying "Click here if you want to start TF3D" aint even showing. It's just a black empty space where TF3D is supposed to be. It does respond when I tap like contacts or so, but only the button itself, the program aint starting. Only thing responing for real is S2U2, it starts and quits as usual when I pull in and out the stylus and when I turn the screen off.
Do anyone have any idea how to fix this?

Yeah I figured that is my last option, but I'll wait for NisseDILLIGAFs' new ROM. Weird enough though, it started working properly yesterday.

wonderful... piece of advice... keep a diamimg.nbh on your internal storage - just in case you ever face a problem which u cant get out of ... u can always re-flash from int. storage
ok so i'm going to try and write down everything that is going wrong with my phone right now.
when i boot it up, touchflo will not start, i just see calender and contacts on the bottom. if i click on contacts, it takes a while to load, then just says enter a name on the top. with no list of my contacts.
i can not receive or send calls. i just had a friend try to call me and the middle round button and the send button blink, but no screen pops up saying i have a call. i try to press send and nothing happens.
i can barely send a text message, it takes about 10 minutes for the text message to load if it even loads. can't browse the internet.
calender works fine, google maps works fine, small games work fine, like teeter. age of empires will not load though. messenger will not load.
i can browse my programs though and go into file explorer.
activesync is giving me a message when i try to connect saying
"Activesync cannot connect ot the windows mobile powered device. to troubleshoot the problem, click ok."
the scan after says this
Unable to establish a connection between the PC and the device. Get up-to-date solutions to common connection problems. Please click the following link: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=65257
when i was drunk and camping on the weekend my phone gave me a message saying it could not start because it was not properly turned off the last time and said i would have to press the volume button to restart it, which i didn't do cause i didn't want to lose my contacts.
has anyone else had these problems? any way to fix it? or am i just going to have to do a hard reset?
also i'm not sure if the Pim Backup v2.8 works for the diamond? i'm in there reading right now.
another problem i noticed is that when loaded a text message, if its the first text i've gotten from a number it loads really fast, but when i load one from someone that i've communicated with for a while, it takes forever to load if it does. most times it just doesnt load and freezes for a bit.
I think we need some more information. Maybe if you answer these questions, someone can help you, before you'll have to hard reset..
The ROM version?
The TF3D version?
What software, like lockers, screen rotators, key mappers, task managers, battery savers etc. are running in the background (as a service)?
What does Settings - System - Memory say about free program memory?
Anyway, PIM Backup works fine on the Diamond. Good luck!
It seems txt messaging freezes my phone at sporadic moments during the day and I"m not sure why it's happening... If my phone is asleep, and i try to wake it up and press buttons and it doesn't respond, I can almost guarantee that if I soft reset the phone, and go back to my text messaging, there will be a new msg there and when I check, sure enough, there's a new message. I'm not sure why this is happening, and I don't know if it's a Windows Mobile 6.5 issue or not.. I've used both PDA Corner and TPC's roms and the same thing happens from time 2 time. Anyone else ever experience this?
...let us not forget this is still a form of Windows. I find a soft reset every couple of days and a hard reset every couple of months keeps things running smooth.
Just the other day, I couldn't hear the person on the other end of the phone call. Both incoming and outgoing. Reboot. Fixed.
Especially with aftermarket ROMS, this might just be a fact of life.
