I have just started a free trial of web 'n walk on my diamond. The internet works great, apart from both opera and IE not working on certain sites, e.g. http://webmail.manchester.ac.uk . Opera closes when trying this site, and IE displays the following message:
"The page you are looking for cannot be found due to unknown error 0x80072f78". Anyone know better than the phone?
I have searched and found that this error code has been seen whilst the phone is being synced, but it appears for me when the phone is not connected to the computer.
Any ideas?
Thanks.

I am connecting using gprs, wifi works fine. the internet also works fine when the phone acts as a router when connected to my pc; the problem only occurs when I use a browser on the phone.
google the error code.might help.
did that before posting and no info on this that I can find
Sorted it..
Just had to remove the rubbish proxy details that t-mobile had sent me.
Woop.
Indeed , it's proxy setting to your connection , as usual after connect cable at your work , and Activesync add your work proxy setting to the exist connection if u have no setting for "My work network"

Has anyone encountered a problem on the Tilt where Wifi connects but opera 9.5 will not operate using the connection, my tilt is unlocked and running on the tmobile network by the way. i thought it might be the hidden proxy so i installed the cab, it did nothing. I've searched the forum for three days, any help is greatly appreciated.
So really no one knows hows to fix this? Or has at least experienced a simular issue?
Do you have the same problem with PIE?
I have the same issue and still havent found a way to fix it!
where the hell are you guys getting opera 9.5?!
Check your connection settings, I've a dutch rom so I don't now what it's exactly in english roms,
I guess start>settings>connections tab>connections>advanced tab>select network
Somebody told me I had to set those both to "my work-network".
I can use PIE and Opera 405 now over wifi and by activesync (I don't use gprs/3gp)

Didnt work...any other suggestions?
I've come to believe the problem is in he way the browser accessing your data plan. I think it's using an APN gateway rather than a direct socket or http connectivity to data... therefor, if it doesn't see the APN of your data network, no worky worky. I haven't figured out the settings to get it to work in "opera:config" yet...
Maybe someone smarter than me could confirm this...
Here's some more info (albiet it is an article for opera mini, I think it might be the same issue):

okay if you really make a search of this you will find it.

in opera:config you cant do nothing. Just use hide proxy.cab, after that opera will use any connection. Then if you go opera:config you will find opera doesn't use the proxy of you're carrier. You will conect to wifi. it worked for me
thank you I'll try that
It works now!!!
YAY! it works. I just did the removeproxy.cab and now it works fine with wifi. THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH!!!!
Hi,For some odd reason my quick GPS does not work anymore. My TomTom is non functional as well. I have checked my data connection and it is active. Can somebody help please.
Thanks in advance.
Mine has stopped working as well. It says its expired, and when I click to download, it says "Connection Failed. Please try again later". My connection is good, and I cant figure out what is wrong. My GPS will not pick up any signal, and nothing that uses GPS works now.
Can somebody please assist?

Quick GPS not updating/downloading
I'm having the same problem, last time I downloaded the Quick GPS update was 1/20/09, now it will not update, and I cannot get a GPS fix in google Maps, however using the program GPS Test, it does register the GPS Satelites. Please help. (Yes, I have looked in probably 20 other threads, for my phone Raphael/Fuze and others, and was not able to find a solution)

Indeed there are alot of threads, without any solutions.
Although i have applied all solutions because i had this problem twice.
(Without anything that i had applied before it occured.)
I tried downloading the GPS data through QuickGPS last night, and I can confirm that it does not work. I got the same error: "Connection Failed. Please try again later." I had it synced through Activesync. Not sure what's going on. Hopefully, someone can throw some light on this.
Quick GPS works so me. I just downloaded 5 minutes ago.
still nothing for me, says Connecting... and then i get connection failed, everything else on the phone works fine, internet, weather updates etc.
Here's what I can offer you
Had the same problem once when I was testing roms. Soft reset and once phone comes up wait about 2 minutes for the phone to get its balls and recieve all of its texts and emails and what ever it has to do. Then open internet explorer. Leave it open and try quick gps. If this does not work hard reset. I noticed that if I just tried to access quick gps my network status bars would only show phone connection not data, but If I waited and ran internet browser first it would trick it into working. Once I flashed a different rom problem dissappeared.
I had the same problem, it took me a solid day to figure it out. QuickGPS would never connect no matter the circumstances and TT7 and other apps would say the GPS device was not found.
I figured out that I had installed a VoIP application that had somehow completely turned the GPS off. After going through many posts about it on the forums, looking for files that weren't there, etc. I had to hard-reset the device to get GPS back.
For what it's worth.
Found the solution for ATT Fuze user
First, check if you have a internet connection using IE (important to use IE, Opera connects doesn't mean IE can connect)
If you cannot connect (and you are a Fuze user), run "Disable Proxy", and soft reset.
Now you should have a connection using IE, and you can update QuickGPS or SeaSGee.
so heres my update,I was unable to do anything with "Disable proxy" because like everything else you do a search and get so many posts you can never find anything. But that led me to believe there may be a problem with my connections and their settings as I learned that I was unable to connect to the internet on IE but was able to in Opera. So I went into - All settings, Connections, advanced tab, select network button and there are two dropdowns there, one about connecting to the internet and one about connecting to private networks so on the first one i selected AT&T ISP (which was already selected) and for the second one I changed it fromo AT&T ISP to "My Work Network", and that let me connect to the net on IE and download the Quick GPS updates when I am on WI-FI only, but not when connected soely to AT&T GPRS.
The AT&T ISP setting does not have any Proxy settings selected, is it supposed to?
and the My Work network also does not have any Proxy Settings.
I'd like for this phone to work right, seamlessly, like umm the iphone which I'm thinking I should have got even though I am NOT a fan of Apple and their software(it always seems to work right for the most part though).
i have the same problem. my gps has completly stopped working. my quickgps updates fine though. when i use garmin, it won't find a signal. it just sits there
i changed my baud rate from 4800 to 9600 to get mine working recently, I may have inadvertently changed it to 4800 2 weeks ago when I was trying to fix the GPS problems after looking through like 50 threads on here.
also check to make sure in Settings > Phone > Local Setting > Get Settings that the location is set to LOCATION ON.
I have Navngo Igo8 on my fuze and it kept loosing the signal. I read on one of the gps forums (gpsunderground)that I needed to turn off the Agps on the device and that did it. My quick GPS also works well. I download updates every few days. Not sure exactly what that does but I read that it downloads latest GPS data.
I received my diamond 2 on Saturday (yay) and couldn't wait to start playing with it. However it does have one major problem straight out of the box and i wonder if anyone else has experienced it.
The opera browser is very unstable. It triggers a general exception error from Windows and either constantly asks to send error reports (duely turned off!) or just shuts itself down. Anyone else experienced or found a fix?
Secondly the browser keeps trying to render in mobile mode unless i select the link to go to HTML, how do i turn that off cos the screen renders full screen beautifully.
A few other annoyances, The data connection only seems to work on HSDPA and not GPRS, this is a potential big problem.
The youtube client only works with a wifi connection, what!! HSDPA is easily fast enough to stream, is this specific to my device.
Anny assistance would be appreciated as i would like to know if these problems are specific to my device or just general annoyances.
Cheers.
I don't recognize your problems at all. Opera hasn't crashed one single time on me since I got the D2 last friday. It works very fast and stable, better than any Opera cab I installed on my old Cruise. Full screen (not mobile view) works excellent and is always default in my Opera.
I haven't deliberately used the data connection over GPRS yet, but I have seen the G symbol instead of the 3G or H symbol, when being in some areas. So at least it does see the GPRS network correctly. I have no reason to assume it wouldn't work there.
The youtube application works great too. Completely stable and fast, again not like any Youtube cab I tried on my old Polaris before. And I just tested, it works through wifi and 3g.
I'm sorry for your problems. I am really surprised on how great my Diamond2 is. I think they really hit the nail on the head this time. I don't know how to solve your problems, but if this behaviour happens even directly after you hard reset the device, I guess your only option is to send it back.
haven't had any of that really myself and i actually tried to 'overload' opera. I run it fullscreen an all.
have you tried the general discussion forums? If it's opera itself, you'll maybe find something there.
youtube is a bit sluggish at times in 'hq mode' but fine otherwise for me
why is hsdpa over gprs a problem? Both are for data, just hsdpa is quite a bit faster even when taking the fastest gprs vs. the slowest hsdpa data rate.
unless networkcoverage is an issue in your case i wouldn't personally pick 2G over 3G..
maybe you're simply the unlucky one, harsh as it may be.. have you tried HTC customer helpdesk?
I haven't had those problems with opera, haven't seen it crash once yet. Have you tried a hard or soft reset?
I do notice opera on the Diamond 2 is terribly laggy compared to opera mini on my old mobile. Tried skyfire and it's worse, iris about the same.
I found the youtube app works great over HSDPA (and wifi), now this version I do prefer and can't find any faults with it.
my opera crashes if a proxy is enabled on connection settings.
did not have any crashes as i do not use the internet
but when using quickmenu it always shows the opera runing.
you cannot stop it weird

Push internet maybe? (just guessing)
cheers for the replies. I've actually hard reset the device aswell as soft resets. however opera still remained unstable. the problem seems to be with windows though as the error message was from windows and an install of opera 9.5 beta 2 caused the same problem. seems ok now though so will have to to monitor it.
i have to say youtube is a concern as it won't connect unless on wifi.
may take some getting used to or may need sending back, either way i think the software is at fault though, i think the device itself is top notch.
I say it's ok and 30 seconds later opera crashes. dame windows and it's nuances!!
I've experienced some strange behaviour of windows and some programs on my old Cruise some time. Frequent crashes, windows errors and other annoyances, like frequently loosing activesync connection and not seeing the sd-card. In the end, it was caused by a faulty board inside the device. After replacement of the board all problems where gone. I had spent hours trying other ROM's and hard resetting before that.
What I'm trying to say is, that sometimes hardware faults are just causing minor problems, while the device works well most of the time. Then you're eager to think it's a software or ROM problem, but it ain't always. If I were you, I'd send it back. I do understand that's not something you'd really like to do when it just arrived

Tried the proxy thing?
As Trinode says you really do want to turn off the proxy setting within the connections page of WM itself. T-Mobile, for example, always adds the useless proxy setting which will almost certainly crash Opera when you look at Gmail.
Why oh why does the connection wizard still insist on adding a proxy when you clearly don't need it?
Thanks for all the replies, this forum really is bloody usefull!
I have tried the proxy thing, and was waiting to respond to test but incredibly this seems to have done the trick! Opera hasn't died since i removed the proxy. Thanks trinode.
I'm with you wibberly, can't see why on earth they need this proxy setting in there, my data connection is far more stable and opera now seems to work fine. Weird!
One thing though is that the youtube app stil doesn't register a network connection through the phone signal, WIFI only. Wonder if this is a T-Mobile data restriction? The fine print from them does say that you shouldn't stream videos. Didn't affect my last contract though. That said i can't say i'm too bothered so long as the device itself is happy.

Maybe you can try it with someone elses SIM?
Damn proxies indeed. They always block all my e-mail connections. Turning it off is the first thing I do.
I too had the opera crash problem, but after ttrying to get hotmail to work in TouchFlo natively by turning off the Proxy settings, I've killed two birds with one stone... Stable Opera + Hotmail in TF3D! Wohoo.
Now, who can help with my next query?
I've tried to set the max number of tabs to 6, (as I that's the way I had it set up on my old D1,) under opera:config, and change the user id to sgh-i900 so I can get BBC iPlayer, but doesn't matter how many times I do this, (and press save settings, just incase you ask,) every time I launch Opera, it reverts back to it's default settings, so I'm stuck with 2 crappy tabs and no BBC iPlayer!!!!!!
Any ideas?
Is it possible to change the default Internet Browser to IE from Opera when you press "Launch Browser"?

Well, this didn't sort the problem for me. I don't use a proxy. I get the error when rss heb notify is on and it notifies for new updates. Wether I press OK or cancel there it gives the shell32.exe error.

Just to reiterate the above. I received my TD2 today on T-Mobile from mobilephonesdirect.com and Opera was a crashfest until I removed the proxy setting. IT IS A MUST DO SETTING CHANGE!

Hi,
I decided to try out a different ROM before totally giving up on this phone. I previous had an unofficial ROM as well but even that I found often unresponsive. Anyway, I'm on a Win 6.5 ROM with TF3D disabled and it actually works much better. Except I can't get to any web sites. I configured the network settings as usual and now I get http 403 for any site I try and connect to. Using IE for mobile since the ROM doesn't have Opera, although I may try and get Opera on there when I have some time. Anyone had this problem before?
Other info: Using the SFR network (France) with access point "wapsfr". Which is how it was prior to flashing the ROM.
Thanks
when you say "configured the network settings" do you mean you did it manually or did you run the connection setup wizard which you get after the ROM if first installed??
Also, what ROM did you flash to?
I tried both ways, and got the same result. I'm at work now so I don't know the exact ROM I flashed to, I'll have to check that when I get home. Thanks.
ok, this is the one I installed
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=551294
It's quite good actually, except I don't like the keyboard for texting, too small, otherwise it's very nice. But anyway, would be nice to get the internet working on there too
typically a 403 indicates a permissions error.
can you double check your setting again by going to:
start-settings-connections-connections-advanced-select networks
click the top edit button and check everything on this page is correct. Also, make sure you are not using any proxy settings.
Just checked all that and it seems to be ok, and proxy is unchecked. Any other ideas? I think I'm going to try running the auto config again and see if it helps at all. Thanks.
If that still doesn't work, try to do a hard reset and see what happens.
still doesn't work, haven't tried hard reset yet, but I don't think I'll time to play with it today, I think this weekend I'm going to try a different ROM altogether. Hopefully the internet will work
ok so I've installed this ROM now:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=563245
I used mtty like he says in his thread to use. Tried the autoconfigure which didn't work at all since it uses "websfr" for the access point name, changed t to "wapsfr" but then I still get the 403 error. This is really driving me crazy, the ROM is so good but I can't get the internet to work on it. Anyway, if you have any other suggestions let me know. Thanks.
ok actually, turns out it was internet explorer (go figure), I installed opera mobile and it works fine. So maybe SFR blocks IE ??? I find that kind of strange, but it works fine with Opera, so now I just hope works with google maps and I'm cool
has anyone figured out a way to get the GPS to work with any nav software (i have the Garmin SD card) or use the HTC Internet Sharing without having to give AT&T the extra dough every month?
Also, do these features work with a new ROM?
thanks guys!
GPS on Pure is not locked so even with the AT&T stock ROM you should be able to run you nav software. I personally have tried Google Maps, Bing and TomTom, all working fine, so I don't think there should be a reason for Garmin not to work.
Haven't checked the Internet Sharing with stock ROM though because impatience just drove me putting a cooked ROM onto the device before I really explored all the stock ROM features/bloatwares. However, I can confirm that Internet Sharing works like a charm with my current ROM (I'm running Duttys at this point and am going to try out EnergyROM pretty soon).
Hope this helps.

I'm using the stock rom that comes from ATT Pure.
I installed Garmin, Google Maps and Bing and all of them are working without making any change to registries or any trick.
definitively the GPS is not locked on the original ATT Rom
Following along with the others in this thread. Third party GPS tools seem to work well.
As far as Internet Sharing, you'll want to check this... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=437796
Is anyone else having this issue (having searched, haven't found 'lest I'm blind )
On my AT&T Pure, have GPSToday (full app, not the "today screen" version) and Bing. Both have worked fine on my old Kaiser, when GPS running, the apps both actively download new map sections as I go...
However...
On the Pure, if I open either app and run GPS, the app doesn't update maps, but when I stay in the app and turn OFF the GPS, both apps will start downloading map data (from the centerpoint of the last GPS position...
it's almost like there's something in the Pure (or some setting I've screwed up?) that shuts off these apps' access to the data network when the GPS is on... I'll test that this afternoon after my class, by allowing GPS to run in Bing and seeing if IE will hit the Internet... but in the meantime, just wondering if anyone else is/has experienced this?

Great, worked for At&t Pure. I'm now using MEdia Net. You may be able to change the registry key Value from At&t ISP Net to MEdia Net so you won't have to deal with accdidently clicking the drop-down when you connect.

How do i get the ATT Pure to Share the Internet
I can't get the phone to to the internet sharing, I have uninstalled the proxy but to no good. If you go to the program for intenet sharing I dont get any option, I click to connect and the error message says unable to connect. Is there a register edit to be done or do i have to pay ATT more $$$$ for the service?

First go to Settings\Connections\Connections\Advanced\Select Networks and set both to Media Net, click OK.
Then go to Tasks\Manage Existing Connections\Proxy Settings and check "This network connects to the internet" and uncheck "This network uses a proxy server", also remove the proxy server settings.
For the second part, it may be greyed out if you're on the stock ROM, if so, install the RemoveHiddenProxy.cab posted previously.
