phpBB on freeforums. really ? good luck with that.
whats the issue
The underlying issue is that there is no incentive to move discussions to another forum. XDA Devs is very well established and has a strong user base. You clearly acknowledge the layout and structure is the same as XDA (except you did add the X1 + i900). I'm sorry to say, but there is no draw to your forum outside of the fact that you want to be a mod.
The creator of the site clearly felt very inspired by XDA's layout...
But hey, competition can only make both sites better.
thats the points its pretty much the same thing as its an ace layout but will cover all of the winmo devices released in the future
Sorry for posting this here, but I couldn't really find a suitable place since most of the Android action is right here.
These past weeks I've noticed an increase of irrelevant threads and clutter being made in regards to Android development in the HTC Dream forum and every other Android development forum on xda. A lot of Android devices out on the market now are not made by HTC. This of course is causing a problem since this forum is for HTC devices only.
Maybe it would be a good idea if a new forum was created that accounts for all native Android devices (Motorola Droid/Milestone, Motorola Cliq/Dext, Samsung Galaxy, etc...). That way, a lot of the clutter would surely be resolved and a considerate load would be taken off of this server (Gotta hate the horrible load on xda these days...).
I'm sure there are quiet a few people on here that have an HTC device and are fully satisfied with it (Me included!). That doesn't mean that everyone else has to feel the same way. People that choose to go with Samsung, Motorola, etc. for their next Android device should not be left out. That's why I believe there should definitely be a forum that serves everyone.
To put up a new forum specifically for this matter takes no time at all, but it does take participation. So if you feel like this is something you would like to see, please feel free to leave a comment.
What are you're opinions on this matter? Agree? Disagree?
Discuss.
EDIT: If there's enough people interested in this project, would there be anyone willing to help getting things started in terms of hosting space or something similar?
my thoughts are that the few changes that have been recently made should help if they are utilized. now we have a forum for general android development for devs, and the rom releases are in the device specific forums. Here was my idea, but i think they made the right choice. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=4795376&postcount=1

It's a start. But I don't think xda is going to put up more sub forums for each new device out there. Thus, development and ROM threads for Motorola and other devices will be left out. Unless I understood your post incorrectly
no, you're right, i just dont think xda WANTS to keep up with every brand that uses android. they apparently keep their focus on HTC devices. there are gonna be a FLOOD of manufacturers utilizing droid in the future, and unless xda wants to change their focus, they will stick with one brand

Yea that's exactly my point.
There WILL be a flood of Android devices from all kinds of manufacturers and it would be nice if there was a place for all of them come together. That way, everyone can keep track of specific development without having to switch between dozens of forums.
My $0.02.
good luck, my friend. Most likely it will take someone to else to start a new site to accomplish. funny, i was fooling around a couple days ago and did this. http://www.new.facebook.com/group.php?gid=176593179336&v=wall
not saying this is the solution, but you are not alone in your concerns.
I see that a few agree with me, care to share your point of view? Maybe it will spark this thing.
Good morning Ladies and Gents,
I'll get to the point, this is a developer site right? Well then my question is why was one of this site's best developers blacklisted from receiving his title as " recognized"? Ladies and Gentlemen this Developer has done more for this forum than anyone, he has carried the phone and I mean phone in all its forms under his wing, and made roms so stable , so fast.. so revolutionary that he has earned his stripes. He spends hours upon hours up answering questions , making instructional videos, talking on the phone or chat, for what? To make sure each persons experience with the Rom, their phone is as it should be... Amazing. I may be rambling to some, but to the others that feel the way I do , its a fact.... WILD CHILD deserves recognition for his innovations that make the phone a conversation piece, a show stopper . Ban me if you must but I'm speaking my opinion , and if that ticks people off oh well .. Bring him back and give him the title he has earned
Signed.

Why does he need a title for creating roms? Even though you don't see his roms in our forums, he is still doing stuff for the vivid/raider/holiday community.

It is about recognition. He should be recognized for his efforts by the people who run the site. He is not another poster like me, he is an actual developer and he had earned his title through hard work and endless hours of creation.

I know what he has done for us thru his work. Did you ever think that maybe he doesn't care about "this status" anymore? I for one think he is much happier on his site not having to worry about the stress and drama that XDA creates.

I know he is happy on his site but if we are using his work here on this site, wcx recovery, then he should be recognized here for his work.

Totally agree the amount of support he gives is far above and beyond anything I've ever seen. He was out to dinner and took a phone call to help someone get their phone up and running. He has some tire dedication to his work and it shows in the quality

He engages users on every level...not scared to be personal with users.. he is top notch and at the end of the day CUSTOMER satisfaction is paramount to him...that's right I said customer...he treats everyone like they paid 200 bucks for his roms. He is a class act. Plain and simple. His people are loyal to a fault...when I say his people I mean all the members of his forum. We all participate...we all contribute and you'll find that we will all stand up for him. He is more than a developer. Xda should see him for what he is...he should be the benchmark...

Thank you for recently applying to be a recognized developer of XDA. We regret to inform you that your application has not be accepted. But don't worry, you can still re-apply starting 1 August using this form.
We cannot accept your application because of one of these reasons:
1) you have made too few posts on XDA......(I had over a thousand posts)
2) while you are a very helpful XDA user (which we appreciate tremendously), we didn't see much actual development coming from you.(ive been releasing since the sony x1 series)
3) we noticed that you have been inactive on XDA for a long time.(I am always on here)
4) your development work has been limited to just a couple of things. Keep it up! We want to make sure that you continue to do great development work.( A couple things?? I release 5-6 ROMS with each device)
5) we decided not to accept those that make icons or themes. We realize that themes and icons take a lot of work, but we're focusing this program on those that are doing other types of development.(I dont make themes)
6) we found you to either have a history with infractions, or you might have been banned in the past for breaking XDA rules/exhibiting bad behavoir.(I had never had an infraction or a warning till this year and it was reversed since 2008)
7) most of your development work comes from an online kitchen. We encourage you to continue to cook ROMs, and to even contribute on a more substantial level to the development of custom ROMs.An online Kitchen? News to me where theres an onlie kitchen that you can cook fully functional tweaked roms)
Again, our purpose in doing this is to not set up an exclusive club, but rather to provide extra privileges to those that are making significant development contributions to the XDA community. We want you to be able to have these privileges, which is why we're happy to re-evaluate your application come 1 August.(CROCK OF BS)
Thank you for your understanding. If you feel that we are mistaken for any reason, or you want more specifics on why we made this choice, please PM me back with subject "Appeal".

WC
As a moderator I recently endorsed him being bestowed with the Recognized Developer title. This was done before we became friends, at the time when the forum was going through a lot of turbulence & all the developers were leaving.
The following comments are my own & only represent my views. Yes WC can be hard headed, opinionated & argumentative. That's also probably why we get along, we understand each other.
There are some Cooks that have the RD title that really don't deserve it.
I personally never used anything WCX before the Vivid. Since the Vivid section started having issues with rudeness & kanging I reached out to many of the developers about forming a developmental group & WC was the only person that took the time to respond. Since that time, we have become friends along with J4n87 & together things have been coming together. WC does currently participate in the xda Vivid forum. He answers questions & helps users with tutorials & instructional Videos. You think cooking a rom makes you a developer? No, it does not. For every Vivid related WCX release or rom, there are hours of work & collaboration on many items. Most of the development is done over the phone, gtalk & via email. While I never really used WCX Windows Mobile roms, I was a mod & followed most of the developers & cooks. I just read this response letter & while I do truly love XDA, I feel it is important to make comments in reply to the letter he posted.
You will find my comments below in blue.

WC has been cooking roms & developing items for the roms pre-WM6. I saw his work in the Kaiser, Raphael, Rhodium & Xperia forum threads. I think number of posts is a silly factor. Imagine if pof only had 100 posts, but all of the posts were for S-Off or CID unlock for 100 different devices. Would that not be worthy development? WC has nearly 2500 posts & has averaged nearly 2 posts a day since November 2008.

A couple of thing? Well, most of the posts are roms, the roms all include other developments (many of which get kang'd) & each of the roms was supported & updated regularly. Unlike some cooks, WC still updates & supports older device roms. Many cooks here just close their thread as soon as they get someone to donate them a new device.
5) we decided not to accept those that make icons or themes. We realize that themes and icons take a lot of work, but we're focusing this program on those that are doing other types of development.(I dont make themes)

WC does not make themes. His roms are really stock like & made for folks that want to do their own customizations on a solid, high performing base rom. He does not just unzip a rom & remove bloatware, but actually ports items from other devices he works on & adds perfomance enhancing tweaks & mods. His roms are not flashy like some of the early RD cooks, but they work as well & much of the time even better. I also love that I don't have to have some cooks gaudy graphics & his name all over my device & boot screen.
6) we found you to either have a history with infractions, or you might have been banned in the past for breaking XDA rules/exhibiting bad behavoir.(I had never had an infraction or a warning till this year and it was reversed since 2008)

I looked. There are no infractions. There was one this year that was given in error because of a mistake a mod made & it was overturned & deleted by the issuing mod. The only thing I can think of is that I know there was a disagreement between WC & one of the flashy Cooks/Mods. While this person makes pretty roms, they always left a lot of orphaned files & registry entries behind.
7) most of your development work comes from an online kitchen. We encourage you to continue to cook ROMs, and to even contribute on a more substantial level to the development of custom ROMs.An online Kitchen? News to me where theres an onlie kitchen that you can cook fully functional tweaked roms)

This one really upsets me, as It is a flat out lie. If you go through WC's posts, you can see him starting out & inquiring on how to manually port XIP & SYS files questions about other areas of development. None of the roms I dl'd & looked at were cooked using the Modaco online kitchen.
Again, our purpose in doing this is to not set up an exclusive club, but rather to provide extra privileges to those that are making significant development contributions to the XDA community. Yes, WC does not boast about all of the work that goes into the devices he works on & he doesn't do it all himself. However, there are many things that he has ported from one of the devices in his collection to another that has been of benefit. He ported some thermal related libraries & drivers from the LG Nitro HD to the Vivid & that is one of the reasons his roms don't suffer the thermal heat issues that many of the other do. Yes, the posts just look like a rom release because he isn't bragging about the mods & that is partly out of humility & partly out of the fact that people don't ask permission & hate giving credit & just kang anything that is new.
I'd also like to point out that when I first went to the Android OS, I had an Inspire that was my gal's. I found the WCX Inspire rom & contacted WC. He called me on the phone & walked me through a few issues. He stayed on the phone with me from unlock/s-off, all the way to flashing the WCX Inspire rom. We probably talked for 90 minutes.
I'd also like to add that all of the development work I have done with the mod & the Tweaks app, probably never would have been done without WC working with me & j4n87. There are a lot of things going on development-wise for the Vivid that are not known yet & that are being developed via gtalk & email & if it weren't for a few bad eggs, WCX roms & development would be back here at xda. The WCX site is a smal non-commercial site that primarily serves a place to host the rom downloads. I would like to see him receive RD status & back here with XDA as a primary outlet for his work. Respect is the only thing I can see that is preventing that from happening. Users are disrespectful & to not be recognized for his work is just one more slap in the face, the proverbial straw that broke the camels back.
Thank you for your understanding. If you feel that we are mistaken for any reason, or you want more specifics on why we made this choice, please PM me back with subject "Appeal".

Hello all! I jump from phone to phone when ever I can catch a broken one to fix for nearly free. I recently ran into an HTC HD 7 and am not really vibing to the windows mobile 7, and from what I read there is not currently a pre made rom available for installing android on this device. I am pretty technologically advanced and feel confident given the right direction on how to accomplish this I would be capable of creating one. I have read a lot of information but am some what lost mainly because of some of the lingo terminology, being that I haven't hacked/developed outside of the ios platform. I can program in just about any c based language. Any one got ne thing that can help me out here? If I build one how would I install it or go about uploading it to the device? Thanks in advance for any replies I do greatly appreciate all your time! I apologize about the noobness like I said ios is whats been available to me for the past few years, and now I want android like a kid wants candy!!!

Developers/programmers have been trying to figure out how to dual boot the HD7 (like the HD2) since it came out. The main problem seems to be how WP7 is compiled .NET and C#. WP7 securitys still aren't fully unlocked.
Take a look at the Project Haret thread, they seem to be making some progress at it and if you have the know how, maybe you can contribute.

Thanks for the heads up, appreciate the reply, btw where is the thanks button? sorry this is my second post here. I started to do some research into it. I believe the answer is in the coredll.dll file which may be stating the obvious. I think the way to go about accessing this or at least what I am going to try is an attempt to gain root access with my device tethered to my comp from terminal.

Your welcome! I've read through the whole Project Haret thread and there is alot of information, (some way to complicated for me) trial and error and it looks like as of recent there has been some good progress towards getting Haret to perform and (hopefully) run kernel mode and actually boot the kernel. You might be right, give it a shot or maybe put it on the thread and see what kind of feed back you get on it!
Is your device unlocked yet so that you can gain access to it and try it out?
Personally I would love to see the HD7 dual boot WP7 and Android. Don't get me wrong... I thoroughly enjoy WP7 and love my HD7it's very smooth, fast, stable and not once has it crashed on me. I believe that it would bring a longer life experience to the device and make it that much more versatile, especially since we're nearing the end of official support.
The thanks button should be there now, under the posts.

Ok so I realize I might sound like an idiot considering everything I said can be found within the haret documentation. I originally read something found on google with inaccurate information after you told me about the project, come to find out the information I read was in no way affiliated with the the actual project haha. Forgive my stupidy, I began to read and follow along the documaton for it at htc-linux.org, the only thing I am having issue with is obtaining haretconsole to explore the device. The link on the documentation I believe no longer exists, and I can't find a source anywhere! This is pretty good stuff though thanks for linking me up with it! Have you installed the development tools or haretconsole on a linux OS by chance? I was successful with the developement tools, just need to figure out this haretconsole problem. BTW which desktop OS do you prefer?
Sadly I can't tell if my device is unlocked yet haha. I work at a university doing LAN Administration currently and used my .edu e-mail to register as a developer. I then registered my device but don't see a single difference or maybe I just am doing something wrong. How do you suggest going about that(unlocking it that is, I don't care about it being official, just figured official would be easlier)? Also for the iPhone there is a desktop application which allows you to access the filesystem called iFunBox, is there anything similar for the wp7?
I would just love android lol, I like the HTC HD7 and have always been a fan of HTC products, It definately is pretty smooth and compared to my previous device a 3gs it's lightening fast! 3g isn't supported with the 3gs on t-mobile either. My biggest issue with wp7 is the fact it doesn't do anything I want to be done in a device, I use my mobile browser ALOT and I have never seen a browser period with this many bugs, I installed safari but it's not even the same lol! For the most part I strongly strongly dislike anything related to microsoft, but unfortunately I have to work with the windows platform quite often because of my job. There just such a dirty/shady/grimmy company period, I saw a commercial yesterday advertising bing where they claimed 2 out of three people choose bing over google in a blind study............how can they advertise that when they stole googles code! lol. Also it was a pretty dirty business move of microsoft to do what your talking about with the wp8. They claim there going to continue support on 7 but we both know they all say that and do put the effort towards the legacy system for a short period of time before cutting it. Screwing Nokia out of major growth potential within the U.S. while going back on the promise made to them regarding free upgrades to 8 for 7 devices. I think they feel like there invincible just because they currently run the desktop OS market share. I think their will likely be a major change in the preferred OS within the next 10 years, just because I work in an 30,000 user enterprise that refuses to upgrade their liscensing with microsoft because of windows 8's inability to meet our needs.
Sorry if this message way to long haha

Sorry its taken me so long to get back with you... Been crazy busy!
Unfortunetly I only have Windows OS, PC and Laptop. Funny enough though, I just got my laptop back from the shop a couple weeks ago and I had to have the harddrive replaced. Last week my PC got the BSOD (blue screen of death) and I had to completly wipe and restore it.
My next computer will be a Linux OS forsure. I wish I had one currently to install Haret and play around with it!
The student registration is limited and you can only sideload a max of 3 unasigned apps. You would be better off to fully unlock your device and install a custom rom, this will give you more options to sideload as many unasighned apps as you want in the form of XAP's through IE. Access to the registry/file system and to apply hack and tweaks. you can then familurize yourself with the OS and file system.
I can help walk you through the unlock process, it's pretty easy.
Go to settings, about, more info. post back all the information from that screen. Enter your device into bootloader mode - Power device off, hold down the volume down button and power the device back on, while continuing to hold down the volume down button, this will bring you into BL mode a tri-colored screen. Post back the information from that screen also.We can go from there. The proccess to unlock it basicially is to downgrade the SPL to 3.xxx or lower to install RSPL/HSPL wich will allow flashing of a custom rom.
My IE works excellent. It might be due to what build version that your device is running on. Either way once we get it unlocked there's custom roms running on Tango 8779 build with nice features and the device runs buttery smooth. there's also more mobile browsers available to install once it's unlocked, Opera Mobile,UC browser and a bunch more. There's all kinds of XAP's you can install to cusromize the device and enhance the user experience.
Totaly agree with you on the Android development for WP7 and the above statement regarding MS

I am starting this thread to keep discussion alive regarding one plus promises to us the Android enthusiast community - these are recent posts from the 6t twrp dev thread in response to @FuNkwizzard claim that one plus really cares about the development community - I have reached out to @FuNkwizzard to speak in pm although haven't heard anything back as yet.

I'm assuming by now that you actually work for op ?
Maybe you could pass on the message to the customer support team who informed me only a couple of days ago 'we do not recommend unlocking bootloader or rooting and as such cannot give you the stock IMG to restore your device to factory settings' - of course I managed to find the fastboot file that I needed courtesy of @mauronofrio but this attitude from the online so called 'customer support team' this runs very contrary to what you are informing us of here which I have no doubt at all that what you are telling us is true. But - if op really wants to win over the Android enthusiast community then someone really needs to make sure that customer services know this!

Well here's an idea, if op really is so committed (grateful - remember humble beginnings with so much support from the Android enthusiast community) - then give recognised developers their devices at the same time that they go into the hands of all the reviewers - they can surely ask them to sign non disclosure agreements in the same way that reviewers are asked to. Let's think about it, why are reviewers devices given to them before release - well it's simple, op is relying on the hype train to grow their brand - the Android enthusiast community is a tiny portion of their sales revenue, thus not that important really no matter what they say - come on Peter Lao and Carl Pei - show us with action that you really care about the Android enthusiast community with action including ensuring that your support team is ready to help us modders just as much as helping the average Joe - how about actually releasing the source code for the BLOB's to give us working HAL's so that we can actually use the hardware we have paid for the way that we want to. I attended the one plus 'open ears' event in London last year and spent the day on a working group with Carl, he seems like a genuinely nice guy, and super committed to his company and it seemed to us the users - my challenge to you Carl and Peter - show us that you are really 'listening' and stay true to where you began with the support you relied on in the early days from the Android enthusiast community by really supporting us rather than just passing lip service.
Now let's see how 'open' op is really and see if this post gets censured (I've kept a copy just in case it does get scrubbed and of course will start a brand new thread with it if need be!)

I regret the inconvenience and feel sad that you did not have an enjoyable experience on contacting support as that is not what one would expect. Do you happen to have a ticket no or the transcript of the chat and/or the remote session ?
I can get someone to look into it, Thanks.

I gave them my email address, full name, both IMEI numbers - so with all that info one would hope that there is some records somewhere.
Wait, yes, they sent me an email as well and booked in a remote session so that am engineer could flash my device - which was pretty infuriating really as clearly I am more than capable of doing that myself, if they just gave me the IMG file that they were surely going to flash my device with lol.
Shall we take this chat to telegram in private?

I think this is not the right thread where to speak about oneplus support

Of course, you are absolutely right - I had no desire to hijack your development thread, I was simply responding to the claim made by @funkwizard that op really cares about the Android enthusiast community - I will create a new thread in the 6t discussion forum so that this discussion can continue because I believe it is absolutely right to hold op to account. I do hope that op does provide you with a development device as clearly you are a committed dev working to support op community. I for one am very grateful for your work @mauronofrio
