Force Browser to use HSDPA - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV General

Hi All!
Had a look but can't see any posts that answer my question which is: how do I force my Diamond to use HSDPA when browsing. I am with Vodafone and I have had the HSDPA icon show occasionally but usually browsing defaults to GPRS.
Any help welcomed

Answering my own question
Hi All!
I was trying out my Browser at work in Edinburgh. I have just now tried the MS Internet Explorer browser (with wi-fi switched off). It connects using H (HSDPA) Duh!
ME

i dont believe it's possible
gprs, edge, umts hspda it's all the same
signal just with the right connection
and quality the speed inc
from the pda's point of view it's the same thing
only the speed changes

You can't force it to use HSDPA. It all depends on what the coverage is like where you are when you use your browser. If you have wifi on and you are connected, it will default to that connection regardless whether you are in a HSDPA enabled area, just 3g or GSM.

No data while using phone???

dumb question.... but i was under the impression you could make a phone call and access the internet at the same time. Is this not true?
I was on the phone and tried to access the internet and was told NO. i am on a 3G connection.
Well ofcourse I do not know exactly what happened with you, but some providers have 'buggy' setups that can cause this. Most of those providers are working hard fixing that problem right now.
You can turn 3G off somewhere, I know I've seen it, but now I can't find it. Change the type of connection from UMTS to GPRS/GSM, there's a setting _somewhere_. If you do that, you will only get GPRS connectivity. Try calling and getting data at the same time then, if it works, your provider is not really ready for 3G yet.
Interesting. I am with ATT and 3G seems to be full power in all locations I am using it in.
I cant find where / how to turn 3G off and only use GPRS.
I can tell you that I have tested 3G with internet sharing to my notebook over bluetooth. I was able to talk with a BT headset, and access the internet with the laptop thru the phone, all at the same time. When connected the phone shows "H" or "3G". This is with a Kaiser but I would expect the same from a Tilt. AT&T in Southern Calif. I installed "Schen's 10 button comm manager" and with it's 3G button I can hold off 3G, then the display shows "E" and no simul connections are possible.
You can only use voice and data with HSDPA. GPRS/Edge does not allow this, they use the same band for data as the voice band. If you see the "H" icon they you are picking up the extra data bands needed for this to work. I have tested this will streaming live tv to my phone from my media center via webguide. Even with the "3G" icon i was not able to stream video and talk at the same time, the video would pause while i was on the phone then resume connection when i hung up or the "H" icon appeared.
I can confirm that I'm seeing this bug. There is no 3g towers in my area. I'll be showing the edge icon and be talking and when i try to load a web page, Opera will complain that a data connection does not exist.

It's not a bug... GPRS/Edge is not capable of simultaneous voice/data. You will not be able to do both until 3G is available in your area (though this doesn't explain the OP's issue).

3G vs H confusion

I did the kaisertweak to enable the H network or whatever (yes i don't understand it)
the network still says E or 3G . It said that all the time, for the last few days.
Then I was messing around trying to get this gps to work in google maps and I noticed it switched to H. but now it's back to 3G. is this all normal?
Ive noticed that too..
no idea what it means
what operator are you with in what country
check with them to see if you have hsdpa reception my hsdpa is enabled but since i dont have coverage i stay at 3g
hsdpa is a better version of 3g
its often called 3.5g 3g+ or mobile broadband so basically all the twaek is is to let your phone get the faster connection but only if your operator has the signal to do so
The H icon (HSDPA) is a step up from 3G it allows anything up to 7.2Mbs transfer but the HTC instead of contantly allowing this to be active thus creating massive battery drain only allows it when a data connection is active and data is being transferred any other time and you will only get G, E or 3G
3g alows ypou to have video conferences but H mean HSPD fast internet 3,6Mbit or 7.2Mbit depands that the difference i belive.
exactly just because you enable it doesnt mean you can recive it
I turned hsdpa with kaiser tweak also. I noticed it will only connect to hsdpa when transferring data (IE, emails, weather, ect.). Otherwise it will go back to 3G when on the today screen, or offline tasks. I guess its to conserve power?
Maybe thats what your seeing?
ok thanks, looks to be normal =]

3G / GMS

When I set my Diamond to Auto configuration it always chooses GSM with GPRS data, I believe its because the signal is stronger than 3G.. If I set the phone to 3G it works fine (almost always shows full signal strenght). But at my work I have no 3G signal, and I need to manually set the phone to "auto" och GSM again, and it wont change back to 3G when there is 3G in range again (even if I choose Auto).
So, my question is, is there any app or solution to ALWAYS be connected to 3G when there is enough signal, if not, it will choose GSM until it finds the 3G signal again?
Im getting quite irritated when I need to change the band manually several times a day...
Thanks..
Hello

Advanced Config has an option to add a '3G' button to CommManager which does exactly what you want.
What I would really like however, is a 3G button that toggles between '3G' and 'GSM', rather than 'Auto' and 'GSM'
Anyone ?

[internet settings] how to force GPRS instead of EDge or 3G ?

Hello, my title resume my question :how to force GPRS instead of EDge or 3G ?
I've an old offer orange called Orange Sans limite wich have to be used on the GPRS settings..
Or, on the diamond as if i disable the 3G , the edge still be here..
I must have to stay on Gprs simple.
Anyone could have some solution?
I've already try to tweak something with schaps configuration but nothing good
Thanks a lot for your help!
I believe you can set this by clicking => start => settings => personal => telephone => band
I don't know if these are the correct names because i have a dutch phone..
Yes that's the trick i used to do to : band : GSm
But like this there is still edge and not GPRS icon and connection
GPRS Force

On Band tab
Select your network type: GSM
Select your GSM/UMTS band: UTMS(900+2100)+GSM(900+1800)
Press OK .. [it may end existing data connection Press Ok to that as well]
This is what i do since i've ppc ...
Exept that i've GSM 900 +1800 and Umts 2100
But stil edge connections and not GPRS
Force use of plain GPRS instead of EDGE
See also here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-337798.html for this question without an answer.
A good reason for doing this is that on many EDGE networks is if data is actively being transferred many networks will drop incoming calls (caller gets busy/voicemail) which I think is due to a lack of available free timeslots to notify the phone of a incoming call (all slots filled with your data and your phone stops monitoring a control channel I think. Some, but not many edge networks, can tell the phone about the incoming call via the data slots. With plain old GRPS this problem does not occur.
If when you are not using it your phone could use plain old GPRS to sync email, download RSS feeds etc, then there's zero chance of missing an incoming call.
Unfortunately I haven't found any way to do this.

[Q] Only using 3g connection on hd7

hi everyone ,i'm a new user .
as title i make this question.i often connect to internet by 3g connection.i went to setting/mobile network then i set data connection: on,3g connection: on and my country APN.My Hd7 work well ,but only "use 3g connection when availale". it almost switch to 2g network
Anybody have ideas to solve it ?it really really necessary for me
Sorry for my bad English, hope you understand my problem
Go to the dialer. Type ##3282#. Go to settings, under 'Network Type', choose 3G only. If it's already on 3G only (I think it moves back and forth between 2G only and 3G only while on Automatic mode), change it to 2G only, then back to 3G only. This will keep it on 3G only.
thank you very much.i solved it
hello friends I have a t-mobile hd7 but I'm from Colombia, they know how I can make it work on 3G network here in Colombia because it only works on 2g
