Resco Keyboard, Commercial but worth every cent. Skins from the recent competition found here. And some from the XDA forum here.
PocketCM Keyboard is also an option. Donationware and nice & quick, but not quite as polished and flexible as Resco's.
Welcome to the forums.
When I read this, I read "Keyboard which overlays the screen without taking up lots of screen space" by being transparent or something...
That in itself sounds like an awesome idea.. I could see it acting like this:
SIP pops up, screen stays the same size, but the keyboard is transparently shown. If you want it to be less transparent (more opaque) you do some finger slide action to the right, more transparent, slide left... Otherwise, use it just like a normal SIP.
I'm thinking transparency adjustment might be necessary to see the smaller characters in the SIP, like .,;: etc.
Maybe I should suggest this to the Touch Pal folks.

Is there a catch to making a skin for the Wizard WM5 that can use Smartdialing? I for one love the Smartdialing feature and find that it would be a little inconvenient. What I don't like are the buttons along the side of the default skin, that I never use) taking up all that valuable real estate. Is there a skin that will use Smartdialing and get rid of those buttons?

Check out the upgrading forum - there's a patched version of the smartdialing app that works with some skins. Last I looked at them, there was still some minor issues with overlaying text on some buttons, but that may have been resolved.
Hi I have made a fixed version of the black Vista Dial Pad for Smart Dial.
all the nasty "artifacts" are gone looks much better
You need to have eten dialpad installed then just copy these files into your \windows folder on your device.
Some files are in rom so you will need to copy them from your device using resco or total commander.
The main "dial screen" has a small light brown square in the top right corner, This is so that you can see the Headset icon if using a BT headset. If you don't like it I can post the plain version.
Enjoy.
All due credit to original artists I only modified their work.

I'm looking on how to skin the original keyboard that's part of the OS.This is the one where you can only switch between large or small keys and not a 3rd party keyboard since i already know what to do about resco keyboard and others.

you got quite a few, which one? i'm tryin to do an all black theme and only having issues with default keyboard, the calculator and poorlyduck's new black s2u2 theme in that suite of his
anyone got in black?
I have been using the Manilla Touch Flo 2D interface on my Tilt. When I first installed it (about a month ago) I absolutely loved it. I have installed several different themes, and it's pretty nice to look at.
However, I just can't stand the fact that it doesn't support landscape. Let's face it, the big attraction that lead most of us to purchase our Tilts (Kaisers, whatever) is the fact that it has a keyboard (or a tilting screen, which isn't possible without the keyboard slid out). So the fact that TF2D doesn't support landscare is extremely limiting.
Not to mention it's kind of buggy, and sluggish. But the lack of landscape support is really proving to be the deal breaker for me. I use my device in landscape mode more than portrait mode.
So what do you guys think is a good alternative for me? I used SPB Mobile Shell a few years ago on my PPC-6700 when mobile Shell was first released (I'm sure there is a new and better version of it out now, I used the very first version), and it was okay. How is it now? Or is there anything else?
I'm hoping to have something finger friendly, works in landscape, doesn't bog the device down (sluggish), and maybe even something that allows custom skins.
I see the hackers are working on porting TF3D, and it supports landscape. But it is early on in the porting process, and still sluggish and buggy. Is there a finished product yet that can compete?
Mobile shell has come leaps and bounds in the last 2 versions. When 2.0 came out it was almost a copy of HTC home. A lot of people prefer HTC home anyway. Before M2D I used mobile shell. As soon as T3D is functional I will be headed that direction. The graphics are amazing.
As i don't use the htc audio manager / picture viewer, manila tf2d makes no sense for me. I use Pointui with a custom made xml. works perfectly (well, nearly )
landscape is fixed by Mbarvian, it's not the fasted way but it's working.
also on the PDAcornerUltimate V5 Landscape manilla2d is working with the tabs.

Where is Manilla working with the tabs in landscape? Is it a skin I need to install or a new version of Manilla?
Try Throttle Launcher.

x3!
It looks cool
I'll have to recommend PointUI 1.51a. In my experience, it's the smoothest running interface, and it replaces the rubbish WM task bar & ugly settings menu system (if you tell it to).
It works great in landscape and allows easy access to many functions. It takes minimal configuring, and looks all right. Not very customisable though, so if you like changing themes & tweaking etc, it may not be your favourite.

WAD for the win. By miles.
i used pointui for a while but the battery drain was unacceptable. if battery was not an issue pointui would be my choice. however, i use manila2d right now. spb pocket plus is useful and customizable, but doesnt have any flashy animations if that is what you are looking for.

Yeah I checked that out but it is really only the home and weather tabs that actually work in landscape...
Unless he has a newer version that isn't on the first page of the main Manilla skins thread.

Ive been messing around, got one rom that works partially in landscape although glitches on a few imput fields.
The NRG roms seem most stable, but only the ones with original TF3D
Anyone have any thoughts on a good rom that I will be able to do the most with landscape wise? Basically just imput fields, texting, etc.
I swear to God if i see one more thread about this...... Manila 2.5 DOES NOT WORK IN LANDSCAPE. Its not the ROM its the Manila from HTC. The only screens that work is pictures and music.

How about for texting and web browsing? I would think those are separate then from the Manilla UI.
What about the ROMS that have SENSE UI? Is that just a "skin" or will the UI work in landscape with the similar feel of Manilla?
The Sense UI now extends to Manila 2.1 and those do have landscape. The 2.5 versions doesn't have landscape. The Sense UI that is related to manila is still manila and only works in landscape on 2.1. If you are referring to skins that modify pointui or spb mobile those are just skins. Texting outside of manila should have landscape and so should opera.

Ok thanks! I really like the weather clock and the way the email feels in manilla 2.5.
NRG Photon Rom has the Weather Clock
I have accepted the landscape problem with 2.5 since this version of manilla first emerged, but it has always puzzled me. My understanding is that 2.5 is basically for the HD2/Leo, right? So does this mean that the HD2 does not have landscape for manilla tabs (other than pics and music)?
In all the video reviews of the HD2 I have seen to date, none actually show the reviewer rotating the phone on the homescreen.
I have never cooked a ROM so perhaps this is a dumb question....but if any chefs can shed some light on why it does not work I would be grateful.
Thanks

yeah but its not the same as, the LEO for instance, where the cloiuds come from all over the screen, or the moonlight beams in from the corner of the device

The manila files and scripts just don't have that functionality. I do not think the LEO has landscape. Give it time.. Remember the original manila didn't really have a landscape either.

Im downloading Photon as we speak. If this works, ill be thrilled.. if only I could change the mail tab icon to the envelopes instead of the ugly mailbox and get the whole email view like on 2.5
If I do use a manilla 2.5 rom, is their landscape support in apps or when forming emails?
In photon there is an app called G-Config under Start Menu/Utilities. You can select what functions you want to autorotate there and problem solved.

awesome! Thanks man.
So essentially I can use photon with manilla 2.5 - and just turn on rotate for email/text/internet?
Only things that use manilla would be the email/text previews and the home screen right?
Yeah you can go with Leo and have the added features of 2.5 and just select what programs you want to rotate other than Manilla.
I still have a problem with text entry in facebook - The keyboard doesnt do anything but shake the screen in landscape mode
Can't help you there as I am one of the few people in the world with no facebook

Is that gyrator? It can be installed in any ROM!
Any yes Manila 2.5 does not work in landscape, and it has been discussed zilliion times....
This guy and his ROM (for SE Xperia) has landscape support for Manila 2.5 : http://htcpedia.com/rotastrains_manila2_5_landcape/soft/sony-x1-rom.html
Dont know how he did it, but it can be done. Ive seen nothing lie this for the Touch Pro 2.
a while ago, i decided that i must have a big enough keyboard layout..
this thread will not be updated (unless someone comes up with a special suggestion or something or if for some unknown reason i experience a not so likely FingerKeyboard Hebrew Related Epiphany).
I hope you enjoy this.
P.S. put this in your finger keyboard's skin dir and choose it as one of the layouts in the finger keyboard configuration.

Hi Nir36
I'm jumping on your hint to tell you of a problem with the size of FKb: on my small QVGA screen the actual size is small so I have to use the stylus, then it takes too much of the screen! I find myself many times blind typing into a field hidden by the keyboard Otherwise this is the best app for multilanguage.
So my dream is to reduce its size to the default keyboard's size, can you find the time for this?
Thanks
10x
