a while ago, i decided that i must have a big enough keyboard layout..
this thread will not be updated (unless someone comes up with a special suggestion or something or if for some unknown reason i experience a not so likely FingerKeyboard Hebrew Related Epiphany).
I hope you enjoy this.
P.S. put this in your finger keyboard's skin dir and choose it as one of the layouts in the finger keyboard configuration.

Hi Nir36
I'm jumping on your hint to tell you of a problem with the size of FKb: on my small QVGA screen the actual size is small so I have to use the stylus, then it takes too much of the screen! I find myself many times blind typing into a field hidden by the keyboard Otherwise this is the best app for multilanguage.
So my dream is to reduce its size to the default keyboard's size, can you find the time for this?
Thanks
10x

Hi guys,
hopefully someone can help me in here with 2 problems I've got with my HTC Diamond.
First is there a way to change the font size on Appointment entries at the homescreen?
The seconde question is: Why is there no word suggestions when you are using the small keyboard! HTC Cruise worked fine with that one, now the new Diamond gives you only some if you are using the big keyboards.
i've installed tnyynt's keyboard font fix cab. yet i can't see how to change the keyboard size. The size is still to small for me. Especially the leftmost keys on the full qwerty keyboard. The AZTOR ROM had a very good keyborad size. Is there a way I can install that keyboard?
I am looking for a great osd keyboard for my new manila rom. Some finger friendly suggestions would be great.

Resco Keyboard, Commercial but worth every cent. Skins from the recent competition found here. And some from the XDA forum here.
PocketCM Keyboard is also an option. Donationware and nice & quick, but not quite as polished and flexible as Resco's.
Welcome to the forums.
When I read this, I read "Keyboard which overlays the screen without taking up lots of screen space" by being transparent or something...
That in itself sounds like an awesome idea.. I could see it acting like this:
SIP pops up, screen stays the same size, but the keyboard is transparently shown. If you want it to be less transparent (more opaque) you do some finger slide action to the right, more transparent, slide left... Otherwise, use it just like a normal SIP.
I'm thinking transparency adjustment might be necessary to see the smaller characters in the SIP, like .,;: etc.
Maybe I should suggest this to the Touch Pal folks.

Hey
I just finished my rework of the WM7 inspired Skin originally created by HTCToucher!
Edit:
Vga version available but needs to be testet, as i have no vga device here for testing!
edit0.2: Download the newest Daily, the space bar freeze bug seems to be fixed
edit0.3: minor feedback fixes(smiles fit now), optionpane feedback is not correctly shown yet but will be fixed
In landscape mode, press long on the .(was , on the picture but updated) button to show up a pannel with , ; :!
Be shure to use at least the newest daily (0.24.82) from 7.2.08 to not get the keyboard freezed when pressing the space bar!
Alternatives (ä,ö,ü) are added to o,a,u buttons for suggestion of e..g. grün when typing grun
very cool!
thanks for this.. it will probably akso make it easier to start making v2+ skins
looks great!
thanks for working on this!
htctoucher
very nice!
But is it qvga or vga?
Deixi
sorry i forgot to write, i designed it on my omnia, which is qvga but the way skinning is done with the new version, it should work on vga also without problems. only thing is I have to ad another vga feedback picture, ill will do that asap!
but would be nice if someone with a vga phone could try it!
So i tried it on my touch HD (WVGA). That is what it looks like in portrait and landscape.
looks very nice, but its not perfect yet...
deixi
Thx now i see the exact problems , i'll try to make a working layout for vga and post it asap
problems with vga should be fixed! pls download the vga version if you have a wvga device!
jup it works now. alltough its extremly slow in landscape, but i thinks thats a problem with pocketcm keyboard.
one question:
how can i make it to suggest "grün" when i write "grun" in german with a german dictionary?
edit: i just found out there is a bug with the spacebar freezing the whole phone
I have the lost the period "." on my landscape. Only have a comma.
the . missing in landscape is by design as else i wouldn't be possible to have same width buttons
to get grün suggested when typing grun is possible, but only by adding the line "key.u.alternatives=ü" to the settings.ini inside the zip file!
the same for key.o.alternatives=ö for o and key.ä.alternatives=ä
I'll add this in the zip file an reupload it later!
To the bug with the freezing and the space bar, i happend to me as well just i today, i think i happens when pressing long on the space bar but i'm not shure yet if this is because of the theme or the Sip.
to the slowness this could maybe come from the vga version of the graphics cause they are much bigger then the original ones (dream2 ~34kb, vga wm7 ~200kb) maybe the graphics can be optimized a bit...
About the freezing bug when pressing space: a workaround is to just tip on it very shortly so the "pressed" graphics won't show at the space bar, then the keyboard won't freeze, i don't know why it freezes on loading the "pressed" graphics, but i allready submited a bug report to the author of PCM Keyboard!
i updated the skin a little, now . and , are pressent in the landscape layout, and äöü will be available to suggestion!
update of the first post
thank you very much!
good work...
yeah your welcome !
but be shure to use the latest daily from www.pocketcm.com cause 0.23 will cause trouble!
i do not link i directly cause of the credit to the author
Probably a dumb question, but where on the phone do you drop the file?
I assume you just place the .zip file on the phone somewhere (just want to verify where)?
edit:
To be more clear, the PocketCM site states (for installing keyboard themes):
* Close PocketCM
* Copy the file to your PocketCM installation directory
* Make sure its extension is .cmt
* In PocketCM press the phone button for 250ms (stay pressed), slide left to the option button (second from the left)
* Release, then select "choose theme", and select the theme you just copied
However, there is no .cmt in your zip file. Sorry to be such an idiot. Just want to make sure I'm doing it right.
Thanks.
Hi
you just have to place the zip file inside the \Program Files\PocketCM Keyboard\ folder, than press the enter key long, go to options an select the theme!

Ok I did this and its not working. PCM will not see the zip file as a skin. I think version .23 does this but I have the stable version .14 or whatever like you suggested. What am i missing?
ah ok that's the problem, my skin is only for v0.23!
If you wanna use 0.14 you can take the original skin which was done for 0.14
here in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=2453480#post2453480 the second post!
Oh... Well that makes since then. I was going off of this post and thought .23 was not compatible.

I dont know why they said that?
YEAH this skin is really neat to look aT and use IF IT WOULD STAY UP ...
Hi, this is my first post - so I hope I've not made any mistakes/bads...
I thought I'd share my first PocketCM Keybaord v0.14 skin called "Black n Green" with you all.
I created it because I've gone for a black theme on my kaiser with green as the highlight colour for selected text/buttons/menu item etc..
To use it you will need to install PocketCM Keyboard v0.14 (available freely from the author's own website, go google it).
To install the skin:
1. Unzip and copy the two files to the directory PCMKeyboard is installed in on your PPC (\Program Files\PCMKeyboard by default).
2. Select PCM Keyboard as your keyboard (use arrow next to keyboard symbol)
3. Go to the options for PCMKeyboard (On keyboard: press & hold enter then slide finger to Opt. button)
4. Select Eng black_n_green for the layout
5. Select black_n_green for the skin
6. OK
It's QVGA, should work with any 240px wide screen (I think). I haven't got a VGA device (using a Tytn II) so haven't done a VGA version. It works in landscape too, although I use the Tytn's keyboard then
I'm thinking about making the shift key bigger (by making the delete key smaller)...
> > U P D A T E < <
Many thanks go to RR33 who has very kindly done the VGA conversion with the hres images I supplied. I've added the (W)VGA version to the ZIP in this post. Last screenshots are VGA
Hope you like it,
Karl.
Yeah PCMKeyboard is one of my favorite SIP and v0.14 is better than v0.2x to me
Very nice, keep up the good work
it would be nice to do a (W)VGA version : I can do it to complete your work if you want and if you have PNG in higher resolution than QVGA (it's not good to upsize pics from QVGA to WVGA as you know)
Official Link to PocketCM Keyboard v0.14 : HERE
Resources for (W)VGA conversion
Thanks RR33 for your kind words.
I've created the key.png and key1p.png for VGA resolution (assuming that the dimensions are doubled). For the QVGA skin I then used these to create the B/M/E parts... The rest are supplied as masks for alpha channel in the hi-res image (enter, shift, backspace).
I also put in some mod'd buttons with brighter reflections, but haven't tried them out. Also attached all as a ZIP.
I'm not going to create a VGA version as I have no way of testing it... but feel free to have a go.
ok, I'll make the (W)VGA port
Change of layout
I've just noticed that the layout doesn't include a '?'. I've updated the layout in the posted ZIP with a new layout and included a few other improvements so more symbols are accessible on a long press:
long SHIFT:
\|[]<>{}_~long comma:
!"£$%^&*()long full stop:
'/#@;:=?-+and a EURO SYMBOL from long £
hi
So here is the VGA-WVGA skin
I've modified 2 things
- shift symbol : I added a 2nd shift to show the difference when key is down
- internet symbol : earth instead of IE logo
Thanks RR33! I've updated the first post accordingly.
I like the idea of the second shift symbol, might put that into the QVGA version.
I now realise that I didn't give you a .?123 graphic or the feedback graphic in VGA... Anyone desperately need those? or is the RR33 conversion OK? (I can't check with the Tytn2 what it looks like).
I might also get rid of the .? and just have 123 for the symbol key...
huh...very strange, nothing happens if I tap the arrow beside the default keyboard, so I can't change it.
I know it is sounds like a noob question, but the last time I checked, it was possible to change keyboards this way...
Cheers,
Arnold

Well I've just rewrote .?123 with the same font and it looks good to me. You can downsize the 2 shift png for QVGA if you want (there is also a line to add into settings file in order to activate 2nd shift)

I know how to do it, but for some reason, nothing happens when I am tapping on the arrows next to the keyboard icon in the bottom of my screen. Very strange, as I used it often. Even after soft reset it is not working.
Cheers,
Arnold
ok, so try to activate PCMK14 with Ervius Sip Selector (keyboard selector) available HERE then reboot/soft reset your ppc
thanks so much for your help, that did the trick (what a great little program by the way). It looks great, I made a very dark phone style with sktools and was searching for this kind of skin, so....thanks a lot ;-)
Cheers,
Arnold
I started cook with ervius kitchen and i got small problem with the keyboard. You see on the screen is shift upwards by a few mm. If someone has a solution or some reg fix it would be nice to share (The keyboard is an example. Underneath you can see a clear white bottom between the black bar and the keyboard)
You should ask this in the ROM section, bro.
