sim card removal - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

Hey quick question. I've looked in all the threads but can't quite seem to find the answer. Just wondering if when I go to update to the official htc wm6.1 if I can just remove my sim card during the update process without having to back all my crap up. I just can't find out if the sim card needs to be in the phone during the process or not. thanks for the help.

Your SIM card stays in the phone for the update.
Remove your Micro card prior to the update process and install your new ROM. I think the install directions say to remove the Micro card prior to the install.

Boot Loader
Alright. Im slowly getting there. Just succesfully loaded the wm 6.1 update to my device. But theres a problem. My computer says it's 100% done and the click to finish button comes up, thats not the problem. the problem is after my phone hits 100% it goes back to the bootloader screen. the new SPL is displayed as SPL-3.02.0000 and than it says CPLD-8 and im getting a reaction from the usb, but it wont load the os? ive tried to reinstall from the ruu like 4 times now and nothing.

Bootloader question/trouble

Hey there everyone, I am pretty new to this forum so I must apologize for throwing you all into the deep end. I recently purchased an o2 XDA mini S second hand from a guy on boards.ie here in Ireland. I got the phone and really liked it because it allowed me to get rid of my Dell Axim X3i and mp3 player and keep it all in one device.
After a little bit of more research I discovered that I could remove some of the bloatware from the o2 xda mini S by just hard resetting and choosing the basic option which I than did. Still not satisfied with the overall performance of the XDA I decided to try a rom upgrade. Not wanting to do a totall overhaul I decided to just do a radio upgrade first.
My device is sim unlocked, it was like that when I bought it. I used the latest wizard service tool to CID unlock the device before I even flashed the phone. I also used the wizard service tool to change the nk.nbf file within the o2 mini S radio update into 96000000-GSM.nb. I then used this file to write to the GSM radio code (Bdk 1) according to the wizard service tool in the hopes that it would upgrade my radio version.
Well when I restarted, nothing of the sort happened, on the boot screen I noticed I was now missing my GSM version and when the phone finally got into windows mobile, it did not pick up any signal even though beforehand it could. The phone also became super slow to the point where it was unusable.
I have gone into bootloader mode subsequently after reading on this forum and tried to reflash with a number of updates with active sync disabled and nothing else running with the phone connected via usb to the pc. None of the updates would even pick up the phone or allow me to flash it.
My phone is pretty much screwed, I have a spare so it is not that big of an issue but I would like to make this usable again if at all possible. So my question is how do I flash a rom while the phone is in bootloader mode?
P.S I forgot to include the Current boot screen details:
IPL - 1.05
SPL - 1.05
OS - 1.5.4.2
Hi,
You can use the Wizard Love Rom from here http://rapidshare.com/files/17792050/Wizard_Love_2.26.10.2_WWE_Novii_CF2.rar
Hey there, thanks for the advice, I did download that ROM but like I said before, none of the roms manage to flash my XDA because they all cannot seem to connect to it. Activesync does not even pick it up in windows mode, and even when I have it connected in bootloader mode via usb and I double click on the love rom, it goes through the motions but never managed to "verify the information with the pda"
Try a stock Tmobile ROM but not from bootloader. Also, I would check the activesync app on the device. Make sure it's set to use USB as the default connection method.
A few other steps to try...
Uninstall ActiveSync and install an older version. If still no go, try a newer version.
Try a different USB cable and/or USB port.
Try a different computer with XP, not Vista.
Try flashing it without the SIM card or any memory cards.
If all else fails, you can try the SD card flashing method. There are instructions in the Wiki on how to do it, but always a stock ROM.
Try this one... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=311027
Updated IPL/SPL and radio 2.69
Hey Devis, I think I have come one step closer, I tried all the suggestions that you made. Except well now my phone will not even go into the operating system when I switch it on. It will boot and the version numbers show but then it just resets itself.
I tried a different usb cable and I am not using vista, tried a different pc and the same result. The one place I did have some marginal success was the sd card method.
Basically what happened is that It backed up the OS from my phone and then reloaded it, not exactly what I wanted since the OS and rom are both screwed on the phone so my question at this point is, is there anyway using the SD card method to load one of the stock roms onto my phone?
I searched around the net and found the opposite to the "r2sd all" function, would be the "s2d" function, would that allow me to flash the phone with a stock rom?
Thanks for your time, I am going to call it a night here in ireland and head to bed.
Ok, if the phone resets then you probbably have a dead/dying battery. Charge it for about an hour or so using the wall charger, not the USB cable. Try to restart it and see if you can get in the OS. I was looking in the SD card method thread and some guy was successful at restoring the image from the SD even though his OS had died. He then had a fully functional phone.
The other thing to do would be to get the image file from someone that has a living and breathing wizard, preferably one with a stock ROM. Since this method is the equivalent of making an image of a PC using Ghost, the restoration of such an image to your Wizard should work just fine.
Just make sure that the other Wizard is SIM and CID unlocked. Or just go buy a Wizard from the store, unlock SIM and CID, copy the image on the SD and flash your device. Or... since u've got a new Wizard in your hands, just take the freaking thing appart and swap the guts return the store bought wizard to the store saying that the thing just doesnt freaking work!
As for the AT commands... it is possible that s2d would workfor you, it doesn't work in my wizard. from what i have been reading it appears that the bootloader is password protected and that password is randomly generated. I haven't played long enough with it to figure out how to get the password.
It looks like you've got some "trial and error" processes ahead of you. There is a wealth of info on bootloader AT commands on Wiki, nothing for the Wizard though. But something may work... not sure.
I could try to get you a ROM dump from my Wizard but I already am on SPL/IPL 3.08 and running WM6. the SPL/IPL version alone wouldn't allow you to restore from my backup.
Hey Devis, thanks for your time, just woke up here, will work some more on the phone today and let you know what is going on
Hey Devis, I did not even get a chance to fiddle around with the phone today, from being able to switch on less than 24 hours ago, it does not even want to switch on now so I am going to officially declared it a brick and move on. Will see if anyone can fix it for me, spent way too much time already when I should be working on my dissertation, thanks alot anyway
Sorry to hear that...
I have bricked one phone myself in the past... my old Pana GD87 and I absolutely loved that phone. I know how you feel.
Good luck with your dissertation.

HELP ME! My Tilt Is Bricked.

Ok, so today I tried to flash my Rom with the official att 6.1 rom from HTC. I got it to finally start flashing after about ten tries but when it reached about 13% it gave me an error 276 I think. I tried the recovery method suggested by removing the battery for 3 seconds and reseting the device but now my device isn't recognized in windows and I can't run the upgrade file anymore.
It just goes to the bootloader screen with "KAIS1*0" on the top, then "SPL-3.02.000" below that, and "CPLD-8" below that. At the very bottom it shows USB but my computer doesn't recognize the device. I've tried hard reseting it and it just goes back to the bootloader screen.
Is there any way I can get my Kaiser back or am I screwed?? All this waiting for 6.1 and now my phone is dead. What a load of crap.
Just re start the ruu and let it sit for a minute when that happens, it will start again by itself. Almost shat myself when it happened to me.
First of all, relax. Your phone is not bricked. Do a little looking around the forums and you will resolve this.
I am too lazy to search for him but is the 3.02 SPL compatible with the 6.1 ROM?
I can't restart the Ruu because I can't get a usb connection to my phone. The bootloader goes into usb mode but my computer does not see the phone. The Ruu says it cannot detect the phone either.
Isn't there a way this guy can re-flash using a MicroSD card?

I'm not sure if the OEM SPL has the ability to flash from card like the Hard SPLs.
To test put the Carrier ROM (Download from the Wiki) on to the root of the MicroSD Card and call it KAISIMG.NBH. Turn on the Phone with the Camera Button Held Down. It should try and flash the ROM then. If that doesn't work, I have a thread and wiki page all about getting stuck on the bootloader, check my Sig for more info.
Hope this helps.

run this while phone is hooked up to computer stuck in bootloader.
Sweet Jesus
Ok, I tried the tri-color fix from nufsaid. It didn't work b/c it couldn't open a usb port or didn't see the phone or something. Then I tried putting the rom on my microSD card.
And *SHAZAM* there it was. DaveShaw you are a god to me now. It said the update was successful but I'm still stuck in the bootloader. It used to work if I would plug it into the wasll charger and reset it but that isn't working now. My computer still doesn't recognize it so Mtty or anything still doesn't work.
Ok, I left my tilt on the tri-color screen all night long to run down the battery. When I woke up I tried to power it on and I got the familiar ATT flash screen but when I plugged it into the AC power it went straight into the bootloader.
I don't know what's worse, bootloader or red light of death, I just experienced the red light, called att and got a new phone sent out in 12 hours! What SPL does your phone show? they might exchange if it's not 'voided'
ok, I finally got it to load the windows. If the battery has a high charge or is charging resetting won't get out of the bootloader. If I let the battery run down to almost nothing, wait a little while with it out, then try it again it will turn on. my spl is now 3.56.0000.
Finally
I finally got it out of the bootloader. I'm never going to reset my phone again. It's gonna suck if it freezes. Thanks for all the help.

Glad your back up and running. There are two new hard SPL's be cmonex (they are mentioned in the link in my sig) that make it less likley for you to get stuck at the bootloader. You could try those?

Can't flash Kaiser HardSPL in any way???

Iv'e tryed to flash HardSPL to Kaiser... Downloaded various unlockers/flashers, even SD card solution... When trying to flash over usb with some Kaiser-HardSPL.exe - after entering tricolor mode and when progressbar appears it always stuck on 0%, and nothing happens... Update utility shows error (Rom update utility encountered communication error or smth.) and sugests me to do recovery. Tryed everything - SoftSpl1.56, Softspl1.93, SSpl-kais...
Other method i've tryed - SD card
Iv'e followed instructions, formatted card, copied those two files (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=420683) to sd card, but after resetting Kaiser it only shows "Loading..." and hangs... no restart, nothing... just "loading..." on screen...
Bootloader menu shows following versions:
KAIS130
SPL-3.29.0000
CPLD-8
somehow... after trying another 1000 -th time... it just flashed...
Have exactly the same problem, tried all other solutions! any idea on what the last method was that worked?
When flashing via USB it will hang at 0% (and fail w/ 260 error on PC side) if the SD card is left in. I've made that mistake more than once.
Remember to remove SIM, too.
I don't have sd card and I've got the same problem...
Any ideas?
I have the same problem. I want to upgrade Hard SPL 3.24 to newer version. I always get 262 error. Also tried all possible ways (MicroSD uses FAT32, but I didn't formatted It, because I don't have SD adapter).
Sometimes It's shown that flashing complete, but HardSPL version still is the same.

Are you using sspl to upgrade? sim and sd out? usb cable or sd flash? Do you already have a hspl and are just upgrading?
If you're on an original spl you must use sspl to do it.
If you're upgrading then you can use the kaisdiag file by cmonex and an sd.
aaaaahhhhh

first of all is your phone hard spl'ed ?
running task29 completely wipes the entire os of the phone which is why your phone won't boot all the way
all you have to do is put phone into bootloader mode by holding down volume button while pressing the power button at the bottom of your phone screen it should say serial
now plug phone into computer it now should say usb at the bottom of your phone screen
from here flash whatever rom you are trying to flash & you should be good to go
hope this helps
yes its hard SPLed. activesync doesnt recognize my phone as connected to the PC. I have since been able to somewhat get it off the black screen and back to bootloader and it starts the process of flashing the new rom but then goes back to a black screen.

since you task29'ed activesync is not going to recognize your phone until you flash a rom to it
1.task29
2.flash stock rom
3.task29 again
4.flash new rom
alright now im just stuck with a black screen everytime it starts to flash the new rom it will get about 20-25% and then go back to the black screen. im wondering if my battery isnt charged enough to flash the new rom on there but it doesnt seem to want to charge
well i was making progress until the phone wont stay on long enough to complete the install, it will load the bootloader screen and start to update the new ROM and then before it starts it will go right back to the black screen...any ideas on why?
alright sorry to keep blowing up this post but now i have the ROM flashed but when i turn on the phone, it gets to the ATT boot up screen where the RGB things are and then goes right back to the black screen now what is wrong?
Is the rom you downloaded and attempted to flash CDMA or GSM? If am not mistaken, AT&T is GSM and if you got the rom here chances are you got a GSM one. However, I would double check to see if that's the problem
i got the GSM version it was working until i tried to update from the Dec 27 version to the Jan 6 version of the ROM. im pretty sure ive bricked the phone it just keeps restarting itself itll boot up then get to the BRGD screen and act like it wants to start up but then just shuts back off
is there a GSM and CDMA version of Task29? i dont know what ive done wrong but i really truely hope i havent bricked my phone but im pretty sure i have.

[Q] Help! Problem with... alot!

Need some help in getting a stock rom to work and flashing a custom rom once thats' fixed.
I decided to go back to a basic HD2 and reload my custom rom on a fresh system. I downloaded and installed a stock rom, went to install my custom rom (Elegancia v2) and a couple things happened. First the flash failed with an error that there was a communication problem, though I could see the device on Active Sync. Now it's stuck at the white HTC page when I turn it on so something is wrong with the stock rom is some way to prevent it from booting through. It did that yesterday but not today. All I"ve done is continue to try to flash the custom rom and fail.
A magic bullet would be nice here.
Ok sense you posted this in the T-Mobile Development section I assume you have a TMOUS HD2 and I also am going to assume you got your stock ROM via the official T-Mobile HTC HD2 upgrade. You can try to reflash the ROM by manually putting your HD2 into bootloader (muticolor screen). Turn your HD2 off and then turn it back on but hold down the volume down button as it is booting it will bring up bootloader. Connect your HD2 via USB cable to your computer and wait until the Serial in the white bar of bootloader changes to USB and your computer regonizes your HD2 (this should happen simultaneously). Right click on the update utility and click on run as adminastrator.
But if you keep getting the communication error you can try flashing via a SD card. You will need a SD card formated Fat 32 it is recommended to use a smaller GB card but if you format your 16GB SD card it should work. Make sure you make a back up copy of your SD card on your computer before you reformat it. To learn more abput how to do this go to this thread. It can tell you all you need to know to flash via SD card. Also when you rename the Ruu_signed.nbh file it is not case sensative so you can name it LEOIMG.nbh or leoimg.nbh it does not matter. Be advised though no matter wich method you use to flash you will have to reflash HSPL to your HD2 before you can flash your custom ROM.

Tried that and no joy. I can get to the bootloader and see USB at the bottom of the screen but it won't go beyond that. Such is life. I worked it out with TMobil to exchange the phone with no penalty (hopefully that sticks0 but I'd still like to get my old one working. Not idea how I got stuck on the white page nor why this is happening at all but I want to try to prevent it in the future.

Hmmmm when you have your HD2 plugged into the computer while in bootloader and it says USB in the white bar of bootloader. Go down to the bottom right of your task bar and click on the little icon to safely remove a device. See if it lists your phone as "HTC USB Sync". If it does not list it as this you need to either try another USB port or update your USB drivers. Try updating the drivers while your HD2 is connected to your computer and in bootloader.

I had the same problem. I was in the bootloader screen with USB showing at the bottom. But when I tried to flash something I'd get a connection error. I just unplugged the usb from my pc and plugged it into a different usb slot, and walaa it started installing the htc drivers. Also in active sync, check the connection settings and make sure allow usb connections is checked.
Thank you for sharing, like very much
