My diamond don't stop to charge.
I've tried with an extended battery (cheap 1800mAh) and with the official one, after a whole night (12h), my diamond is still charging.
Confirmed with PowerGuard after few tests,10h of charge , it mesure about 100 -120mA battery current, the battery voltage is 4,192-4,195 V.
Tested on wall charger and Usb.
Is anybody has the same issue?
Mine (ignito - o2's version of the diamond) does exactly the same thing. If I leave it charging over night the round led still flashes and it only shows about 80-90% charge.
However, if I do a soft reset, battery life is back to 100% and works like it's at 100%.
I've looked around and I think a few other people are having the same problem.
Update: Tried a Charger for a blackberry phone and it charged to 100%, maybe there's a problem with the wall charger?
Mine shows 99%, maybe it stuck on 99%.
If i reset it shows 100% too...
For the wall charger could you check the voltage a the end of the charge with PowerGuard
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=375292&highlight=Powerguard
Mine just sticks on a random number.
Did a complete discharge then partial charge and now it won't go past 69%! I'll do a complete discharge and full charge and see what happens...
sounds like the battery is not telling the phone the truth...
The battery has a feedback built in, which tells the phones software what charge it has, it may be a faulty battery.
ive never had a wm device that dispalyed battery correctly...live with it
Well, I managed to sort my problem out with a hard reset.
Battery life, as expected, still isn't great (or rather hasn't changed), but now the phone charges to 100% every time. Not sure whether this is a fluke or not though...
I think that why TF3D doing restart at night while charging
Did You restore Your diamond after the hard reset? And if You did so is the charging behavior still correct?
The battery issue was caused by the demo version of Navigon MN7. After uninstalling this software everythig works fine.

I have no Navigon comes with my Diamond..
I have exactly the same problem as (theboostman).
I dont thing is the battery i will send it to HTC to fix it.
I would make a hard reset before sending the diamond to htc. After doing a hard reset my diamond worked and charged well. Also try to charge your diamond in "switched off mode" (I mean holding the on/off button for 3 seconds...). Im sure the led ring will show ou a full battery within 1.5 hours!
I am not sure which software changes the settings for charging, but I am sure it is not the hardware
Could anyone tell me the default registry entry for batterypoll? Thanks!

I have this strange problem that just cropped up. After a full recharge the other day the battery showed normal draining. When I tried to recharge it wouldn't; neither from the wall charger or usb by computer. So the battery showed steady drain unless charging, but never got more charge. Finally when turning on the phone on battery alone it shows 1% charge, and there's nothing I can do about it, the phone will turn itself off.
Diagnostics: I measured the battery voltage and it is ~4.2 volts. This seems like a full battery yet the phone doesn't see it.
I measured the voltage at the battery terminals in the phone while hooked up to charger which was ~4.2 volts. So it seems the battery is being charged.
Why is the phone not seeing the battery charge? Is the battery dead even though it measures 4.2v?
I did run the gps before this happened using gps tool, bit I think I turned it all off. Anyway more than one soft reset didn't help.

Ed

No real answer here but perhaps something to try:
I am dealing with another member who has a similar problem.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=377675&page=2 From post 17 onward.
With battery in, the orange charge light comes on and all seems normal. However with a few seconds of turning on the message that the main battery is critcally low comes up and the phone turns off. He has tried another battery with the same result. This happens even with the charger connected.
(EDIT: I have now read that his has - for no obvious reason started to work ok - Now even more convinced it's a charging circuit lock-up issue - given time and possibly a bit of battery fiddling and it comes good in the end - see No 2 below)
Now I'm wondering whether this could be one of two things:
1.
A hardware fault - possibly in the charging circuit or more crudely one of the battery circuit board connectors is not connecting.
OR
2.
The circuit that controls charging has to put it crudely become "stuck" in a similar fashion to those who get the RLOD red LED showing when they connect the charger. A commonly accepted trick for overcoming the RLOD is to connect the charger and wriggle the battery on and off the four contact pins. This presumably has the effect of forcing the charging circuit to re-set itself. I just wonder whether it might have the same effect in your situation.
Mike
hey.. that would be me with the similar issue.
i just tried a couple more things.. check out the thread.
More info.
Battery in and out holding the power button had no effect. Phone runs fine while plugged in. Plug it in and after 5 seconds the amber LED turns to red. While plugged in the red led will flash amber every so often.
I measured the battery voltage as I turned the phone on, it dropped to ~ 3.98v, then came back to 4.1v as the phone turned itself off. It gets all the way to my Today screen before going off. Just sitting in the phone with it off is 4.1v. Hook up the charger and the battery sees 4.18 and rising after 20 seconds. These are direct measurements at the battery terminals while in the phone.
So this looks like a software issue to me. The phone is charging the battery and there is plenty of power to run the phone, the phone somehow doesn't see it that way. It sees a dead battery. Well, I guess it could be a voltage sensor gone bad , somewhere somehow. Next step is to hard reset and see if it makes any difference.
edit: While plugged in and the screen on, the led stays amber. When the screen goes off(set for 2 minutes) the led turns red. Screen back on, led amber. I just set the screen not to go off while plugged in(charging), we'll see. The power is showing 7% now and says charging, too early to tell if it's rising or not.
edit 2: It stayed on the charger for several hours and never moved past 7%. Tried a hard reset with no luck. Next step is to send it to a repair shop(I bought it used) and hopefully spend only the $95-$125 they quoted.
Will keep you apprised.

Att Tilt Power/Battery Issues.
I am having somewhat similar issues with my Tilt, with the power/battery problems as described previously. I woke up this morning, and attempted to turn my phone on, and it wouldnt come on at all. I then plugged it into the ac adapter, and the LED comes on, and goes green. I waited a few moments, then powered the phone on to take a look at the battery life, and the phone boots up, then reboots during the splash screen. After it reboots itself, I check the battery indicator and it shows 1%. If I exit the battery screen, and re-enter it, it will say 100%. Now, as soon as I remove the charger from the system, it automatically powers down. I played with it for about 15 minutes, but needed to head to work, so I took the phone with me, and attempted to use my car charger. Same problem. Now, I figured, fine, I'll see how it behaves while I am at work, so I brought my charger to work, and have it plugged in at my desk, and if I leave it plugged in and on, it stays on for about 5 minutes, then automatically reboots. LED stays green, but phone will not stay on, if unplugged, or plugged in for longer than 5 minutes. I have never dropped it, and have babied the phone like no other, concidering I paid $400 for it. I'm a little bummed out, but cant determine if its a battery or hardware problem. Any advice/input for me from any of you guys? before I head to the ATT store, and cry for a new phone? Thanks a bunch for any responses to this.
*UPDATE* After I got off work, I went into my local ATT store, explained the situation, and was given a brand new replacement phone in like 10 minutes. I was under 30 days owning it, so he just swapped it out, barley any questions asked. (altho i explained my situation in detail as it was). So.... hopefully it doesnt happen again, or else I'll have to use the warranty. Anyways, Any insight on what may cause this would always be helpful for both myself and the community. =)
new news
EDIT: They got it Monday and I got it back Friday. Good turnaround! They fixed the problem, it works perfectly now. I recommend these people.
Ed
Sent it off to Cell Phone Repair(CPR) in Chicago that gave me an estimate of $95 (inc. ship. back) based on my description. They just called and told me it was corrosion around and in the power/usb port. They got it yesterday and will send it back repaired tomorrow with a 90 day warranty. No more saunas for this phone(it was only one! )
I'll let you know if they work out well or not.

My Diamond won't charge to full capacity! I tried to charge it overnight two times and the first time my telephone charged it was 70 procent charged after 1 night. (7/8 hours) and the second night (5/6 hours) with the same percent when i woke up. I had it once 100% but after installing hardSPL and the hardreset it drop instantly to 40%. (i just installed that , and nothing more.)
Connected the telephone to the charger again and i've got a full lit led ring. After turning the device on the ring went 'charging' again. The capacity was 75%. In windows.

Definatly sounds like a faulty cell in your battery
At least its not the phone thats broken, a battery is easily replaced.
I also have a strange battery issue! Mine won't charge if the Diamonf is switched on.
The Battery only will charge if I switch the Touch Diamond OFF, If it’s turned off, not only the display. With Running OS, when I plug the AC adaptor, it only show few seconds the charging breathing LEDs and then stops, the indicator also doesn’t show the charge symbol but the full charged battery instead but the LED indicator is not full white as it should be in full charge state and the battery of course drains down… I’ve tested with another AC adaptor, another USB charger, even car charger (I have the HTC original one), still the same behaviour.
Could this be related to the developer HardSPL? I also have this behaviour after that installation... weird
Any kind of help would be appreciated!
Its unlikely its the hardspl. I would guess hardware issue, but if it charges while off then thats unlikely too.
I assume you've tried a hard reset already to rule out any application interferring with it?
Also what happens when you plug into your PC? same thing?
My best guess at this stage with most likely at the top:
1) Software issue - try hard reset
2) Battery issue - try another battery, or once fully charged look for a big drop in battery very quickly. There are some battery manager/monitors you can download which can monitor the voltage for you. If you can show me the drop in voltage of the battery i can conclusivly tell you if the battery has a fault.
3) Hardware issue with the phone - that would just suck!
update: Replaced my battery and charged it through the adapter, full 100%.But here's something that is stranger... I installed the battery in another diamond and that battery indicator was 100% full..
I hope that it was a battery problem, because i had so much troubles with the diamond so far! The new battery is lasting much longer, it's been 6hours and it didn't even lost a bar. (still 100%)

A fully charged cell has about 4.3v across it. As its drained of current the voltage drops to about 3.3v, when its fully depleted.
The phone uses this voltage level to display the current capacity of the battery
If a cell fails in the battery, as its capacity reduces its not able to provide enough current. Power = current x voltage
If the phone tries to draw normal current, the voltage drops excessivly to conserve the above formula. This shows in the phone as a decrease in battery capacity. The voltage across the battery drops to below 3.3v before the remaining cells are depleted, and although there is still enough current to suply the phone, there isnt enough voltage. Overall there isnt enough power (P=IV)
A rested battery may show enough voltage for a short while (when you first put it in) but the voltage will drop drasticly as soon as any significant current is drawn.
This is a really common failure in a bettery, and you can spot it very quickly when you see sharp drops in the battery meter.

I flashed my TD from 1.37.081 to 1.37.707.1 today and my battery went to 30 percent and not long after it wend dead again.
But there's something strange that i've discovered today.. my charger charges my phone really slow (with original cable and charger) but with the 3rd party adapter i charged todat (adapt htc, specifications are the same of the original adapter) it's normal and my phone doesn't warm up ( max 20 degrees celcius) so much as with the HTC adapter (40 or more degrees celcius?).

output 5V/1A , same specs. input is a little different (110-220hz, 0,2A) against (110-220hz, 0,15A).. but that isn't a problem right? The output is the same.
Thats really strange. Yeah its the output that matters,
There should be no difference at all!
Yeah.. my Touch Diamond is f**** up as h****.. that's not only the problem. I used some GPRS today and my phone makes noises just like when you put a telephone next a speaker and it receives sms/calls. That's when i'm surfing on the web :O!
On top of that, my speaker quits after x seconds/minutes and doesn't make any sound at all and then works after x seconds/minutes. But it doesn't work after x seconds in the Touch Flo mp3player. So my ' precious diamond' is pretty worthless right now.

That noise is caused by a harmonic of the GSM signal. It sounds like the grounding is not correct, either for the speaker or possibly a whole section of the circuit.
Not good!
I have the same thing - battery left on overnight does not result in 100% indication. Yet it often creeps up much higher after I have removed the charger! Have come to the conclusion that it is a software problem - terminal voltage tests OK.

Same issue here. When charging the phone while it's *on*, it results in the indicator stopping at 75%-80%, no matter how long I charge.
I think once when charging through PC/USB, this did not happen and the battery did charge to full.
A soft reset results in the indicator displaying 100% battery however.
So is this a battery problem, or software/hardware problem?

Sounds definately like a s/w problem to me, they will have to provide a fix in a ROM update I guess. Mine is OK at the minute though. Is yours UK or grey import?
Err, I bought the WWE version in Holland. Actually someone bought it for me, but that's not the point.
I did find out that using the advanced config tool to disable the setting "GPRS auto attach" really saves a lot of battery power! Yesterday my phone was idling the whole day and night, and battery only dropped 10-20%.
Has anyone else experienced a problem where battery meter sticks at around 65% despite being fully charged. When soft reset it goes to 100%.
It's not a battery cell issue - battery life is fine. It's simply a meter misread.
Not that i have noticed although ill say that the battery meter on the Diamond isnt all that great...its not really a good indicator as to how long the battery has before it goes dead.
Yup, mine tends to stick at 80%. At least it did in ROM 1.35. Burned yesterday the official 1.37 and we'll see how it goes...
sometimes, mine is also doing it...still cant figure out why thou...
OK, with the new ROM, the phone connected to the PC charged smoothly from about 46% to 100%. I'll see probably tomorrow if the charger makes any difference.
How long do you find the battery takes to charge from around 15% to 100% using the power pack, not computer connection???
Hi Guys,
Does anyone has more info about this ?
When i charge my device (from charger or by PC Usb), it won't go pass 89% battery charge, therefore never warns me when it's complete.
I know it charges to 100%, so it seems to be a problem with the software.
This is quite annoying, has i never get the "Battery Charged Warning" while plugged in.
My ROM Version (Original) 1.37.410.3 PTG
Cheers and thanks.
Anyone still experiencing a flakey battery meter? Sometimes mine will read 90%. Then, within two minutes it will be down to 45%. But if I soft reset, it will go back up again. Some days it's all over the place and I actually have no idea what the battery level is.
I'm using QuickMenu. Anyone have any suggestions or similar experience?
Happened to my unit as well. It doesn't happen all the time though. Sometimes it will charge up to 100% just fine and other times it hangs somewhere between 70-90%.
I've this problem, the battery meter indicates for a lot of time the same value (eg. 98%) but if i'll reset the phone i can see the real value (eg. 45%)
it's very strange

depends on what current the powerpack is supplying, it will probably be either 500mA (0.5A) or 1A. Obviously the higher the current the quicker it will charge.
A PC USB connection can provide 500mA maximum, where as a mains carger will supply 1A or 2A (think its 2A if you have a proper Diamond charger).
A car charger will vary, when the engine is off you will get 1A if you are lucky. With the engine running you will get 2A, but during the engine starting you can get a peak of up to 5A (phone killingly good).
All of these measurement can vary!
i have the same issue, too
yes. my battery meter is incorrect, too. exact same behaviour as you mentioned. 65% -> after reset 100%. nearly all the time. that's very bad, because my battery lives about 1 day without charging and in the evening i don't know how full or how empty my battery is. sometimes the remaining 8 % are real 8 % and sometimes (after a restart again) the shown 8 % are more then 30 %.
I've tried about 6 roms and get the same thing with all of them. It happens infrequently but is still annoying. Basically, if I'm suspicious of the battery level, I soft reset to verify.
it's "normal" that behaviour, because also battery check is made by OS (WinMobile) at prestabilite polling times, search in the registry for "batterypoll" and you'll see a value expressed in seconds (I suppose they are secs), try to lower those values and see what happens, of course shorter polling times drain battery faster
bye,
davide
Any solve for this now?
I also have this problem, sometimes only but still very anoying.
A soft reset seem to be the only solution at the moment.
It happen to me always too!
It was 40%, after I played Monopoly games for 1 hour, it still showed about 39%. When I soft-reset, now it show only 25%. What a huge drop!
im also getting this problem.. anyone has gotten a solution to this yet??
Maybe worth a try.

I think that why TF3D doing reset during night while charging...
I disable TF3D every night, so no reset at night but as side effect sometimes battery does'nt arrive to 100%
My diamond has sometimes the same behavior. The battery gauge sometimes showes only 50 percent or so and after a soft reset it showes full. I had this issue a few months ago, too. The the battery gauge showed correct values and now I have the same issue again.
I am pretty sure it is some kind of a software problem, but I have no idea which software disturbs the battery gauge. I had this issue never with my touch, but only with the diamond. I anyone has suggestions ülease let me know! Thank's a lot.

never reaches the full load but stops at 75% and the LED does not become ever green to indicate a full charge.

It just takes "some" time to charge, but mine gets to 100%.
same problem here.after 7 hours of charging i always find it at 84%
if i make a soft reset then tha indicator shows 98% and after 2 minutes fully charged.
i think it is a rom or radio problem.
i have heard others have issues with the battery indicator too...
same problem too. After off/on or softreset reported full charged. Even with amazing FInixVGABattery soft. It will be solved out by new ROMs
I can confirm: no softwares conflict but only a Diamond's bug!
Tanks to everybody!
charged fully at 74% but once I made a soft reset, it showed 99%. So just a small reboot
I don't have any charge issues with my TD2.. Even with FInixNOverBattery app...
Battery status always reporting correctly without any errors..
Well, this problem is certainly not for everybody. Mine charges fine to 100% and then shows a green led. Maybe a faulty device?
Im another one with this problem, after an over night charge battery only shows 76% but after a soft reset it goes up to 100%, just a pain resetting it every morning guess im lucky i use memmaid to soft reset rather then have to take back cover off etc.
The same problem

Damn Kaiser. Same problem. Will come on when the cable is connected to the laptop or when I connect the charger. Is this the same problem.
im having similar problems, get a multimeter and test the voltage on the battery before and after charging to see if the battery is the culprit.
maybe even try jump starting the battery and seeing if the voltage changes... my battery wont even hold a 1% charge
wow, 4 different people at the same time. I say try running the phone while it is connected to a power source (charger, computer). If it works fine there, I'd say order a new battery if you want to use it still. I just order a new battery for mine for about 15 bucks. Mine is not at the point yours is. My battery is good for about half a day or maybe 2 hours of a phone conversation and its toast. In standby with every thing turned low, it can go for a while but if I use it, it drains fast.
Good luck, and please update us on your status.
I just posted a similar problem I had with a friends Kaiser
My friends Kaiser is no longer charging properly and I have not been able to ascertain the problem.
When plugged in the Orange LED light comes on as normal and the phones says charging under power(settings), however the power levels continue to fall.
I have tried charging with AC charger as well as USB and used two different batteries that I confirmed working in my Kaiser.
the USB socket looks to be in perfect shape and I have cleaned all contacts. I am at a loss just hoping some one can shed some light
The main thought I have (not really helpful though) is that I have my kaiser to test with and both batteries are fine the phone simply wont charge them.
