Newbie-don't remove - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV General

I was totally against upgrading right now but I was in an upgrade period and now have diamond on the way. I have alltel and I need the gps to function flawlessly. What rom/radio combo am I looking at and can somebody tell me if the A-GPS QPST (gps one) changes work for the diamond just like the titan. And this probably is in one of the threads somewhere but this forum just has way to much disorganization right now so please don't remove.

GPS tends to vary depending on handset rather than Radio/ROM.
mine works fine with the BS14 radio (see radio sticky in ROM section) and Dutty's 2.5
-edit- 'fine' meaning no lag

So are you saying that the internal gps comes unlocked stock from the mobile carrier, you'll have to excuse me I'm a long time titan user? BS14 is that the stock radio that comes on the diamond? You have to be very layman with me for awhile till I learn the diamond lingo. I was under the impression that each carrier had their own radio's? Is there anyone that has gone through a stock alltel diamond that can shed light on the subject and give me steps on what I need to be doing. I don't care much about performance at this instant but I need gps to work for my business. The second I activate it I want to be booming on gps.

the internal GPS is not locked...
The BS14 Radio is one that one of the developers modded. Read the sticky thread i mentioned.

"And this probably is in one of the threads somewhere but this forum just has way to much disorganization right now so please don't remove."
Sooo....rather than do some work on your own, you prefer to ADD to the disorganization and place another post? Your additude seems very selfish and inconsiderate. Please read and respect the rules of this forum.

I love this ROM!

I flashed my MDA about a week ago, and thanks to this forum (everybody), and XCPUScalar, I have a unit that boots up a full 80 seconds faster (from about 190) runs substantially faster, like getting immediate response from Pocket Informant instead of waiting 8 or so seconds, and has needed no soft-resetting since I upgraded (although one should do it on occaision, so I do). I have installed about 35 apps, and that process was cut from a few hours to less than two (with distractions).
I have one issue, and it probably isn't the MDA. My WiFi won't connect with my XP home workgroup network. I'm looking into that. Any help would be welcomed.
Did I mention I'm a newbie? And if you haven't done this yet and you're having a hard time finding instructions, there all in the installation file, just make your backups and jump in, but make sure you have the right ROM/hardware combo and phone service.
Is a MDA the same as a Cingular 8125?
Which ROM did you use?
What did you use to backup?
I'm a newbie also. I want to do this. I've been reading this forum for 2 weeks. I still don't have much of a clue. If I was certain that I could get back to where I am if I screwed up, I'd be more willing to "jump in". I have flashed routers before so it's not totally foreign to me.
Thanks for any help/advice that you are kind enough to throw my way,
Porter
Which ROM is this?
Yes. Could you identify this marvelous ROM?
yes, i love her, too.
Since I've not heard about an update to XCPUScalar which supports OMAP processors, I think this guy has got the wrong forum.
you say you love the rom! But which ****ing rom do you mean exactly?
Sorry. T-mobile USA 2.24 Custom ROM
Here's the link that got me there:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=53300&highlight=tmobile+motorola
There is another ROM for other service providers (Cingular) that I hear is just like this one but has a higher number, like 3.x. There is a link in the thread on page 7 or so. ??? There is also a newer version of the T-Mo USA ROM available, but I can't reflect on that.
The MDA also goes by the Name MDA vario, Qtek 1900 (I think), and Wizard. I don't know of any other names. I learned this by searching for leather cases on Ebay. The pictures said it all. I highly recommend being sure you know all the names, particularly the HTC name, of your unit before trying to tell it with a new ROM what model it is. If they don't match, you could mess up irreparably, although there are developers here who might argue about the irreparable part, I don't have the skills or time they do.
Read, be sure it all matches, and *then* thake the plunge!
Hey, the XCPU Scalar works. ???
I am one of those people who is willing to try unheard-of things. ImmierSoft made my MDA go faster, I don't particularly care how.
And I'm not a guy.
XCPUScalar uses a different processor than what the Wizard uses. Unless you are imagining things, you are probably using a ppc other than the Wizard.
Did it not appear that I understood...
... the processor types were different? It's not helpful to be condescending for you or for the person you're talking to. It's Immiersoft's XCPUScalar, and a T-Mobile MDA (US), which is the Wizard. There are certain things I can do woth the software to make the unit crash.
"There was a little girl who said why
can't I see my ear with my eye
I'm sure I cn do it
if I put my mind to it
You never do know til you try!"
Why so negative?
I'm signing off of this forum
I'm pretty fed up with the lack of social skills on this forum, particularly the moderators. I personally can't afford to risk/try this kind of hard work at this point in my life. If you have further questions, please search the forum, there are likely some sort of answers to your question. (e.g. looking up the latest ROMs for your model to see what's available to you rather than asking me what I'm talking about. thanks all for your interst and time!
...nevermind...
Janis, if you have a Wizard (and not, for example, a Magician - check the pics on the forum index) then XCPUScalar has no effect on your processor speed. I checked their website, and they still do not support OMAP processors. XCPUScalar is designed for (Intel) XScale processors (and one other type, which escapes me) - it is not a generic ARM overclocker. So far, only OMAPclock is able to overclock the OMAP processor in the Wizard.
I also think some people on this forum should grow up and stop acting like children when someone says something they don't like, or in a manner they do not like. I don't see your reasoning, Janis, behind "spitting the dummy out" when someone wants to know what exactly you are talking about when you start a brand new thread with no reference to anything solid in the body of it.
What is funny though, the first post of Janis contained comments and 1 question:
"I have one issue, and it probably isn't the MDA. My WiFi won't connect with my XP home workgroup network. I'm looking into that. Any help would be welcomed."
Maybe one of you "experts" could try to answer or help on that one........
wifi problem
i just upgraded to the Tmobile 2.26 ROM and also have the same wifi problem... my wifi wont connect to my dlink 900AP access point. It was working fine before the upgrade. Any ideas? Thanks
Not sure if this is the case, but I'll give it a shot.
If you just upgraded your ROM, I believe it wipes out any registry settings you had previously changed.
In the case of a wifi network, if you're running an 802.11g-only network then you will have to go back in to the registry of your Wizard and enable 802.11g on the Wizard for it to connect.
You'll also need to re-enter any network keys as they were wiped out as well.
Like i said the processor for XCPUScalar is for XScale, not OMAP (which is what the Wizard uses). I'm sorry if you took my comment in the wrong manner and took it personally.
As for the question in your original post, well check to see which network you are on (G, B, or mixed). The Wizard is originally set on B without registry changes (unless T-Mobile fixed this). If you have set your wireless network setup with a password, try setting up your network without a password just to confirm if a connection can be made and your problem is a security issue. If that doesn't work, I find that making registry changes to the MDA for a G connection works perfectly whenever I try this. Just make sure you set your router on the G network and try again. Also try to set you wireless connections on your phone to performance and see if that changes anything.
And for the others don't judge me. How many times have I asked for help and got no response or a negative one. I don't even recall ever getting a thankyou for helping anyone on this site. Everyone tends to ask for help then I never hear from them again. Sound familiar? I thought so.
I decided to edit out my venting ... doesn't do any good ...
btw, I agree that you should check out your registry settings regarding the WiFi.....
"Hey guys, this ROM is great!!"
"Which ROM?"
"**** you!!"

Best rom for Wizard on cingular?

I am looking to update my rom, which one would be the best for me to use on my cingular 8125? Thanks!
Yes Please help a Newbie
It seems impossible for Newbies who want to upgrade the Wizard to actually find the latest and greatest upgrade to the ROM. Please help!
rom for wizard
why not reading some posts?
you might find the anwser some where.
good luck.
and yes i know this seems to be a bit rude however if you want to upgrade you must read first
The thing is, there isn't a "best rom"... there's only different roms. They all work and depending on your preferences they might all be considered the "best rom". Usually, the latest version is the one that has the most improvements and speed gains in reference to earlier versions but there might also be a downside in stability... try different versions and find one that suits you...
Thats the thing, I cant seem to tell whats the latest versions of the ROMs from the posts, I cant tell easily which Faria or Molski ROM is the latest and greatest. The threads with the ROMs start months ago. Admittedly I am not paging through the 50 pages of comments and questions- just looking for some sage hack guidance on what would be best for my 8125 G3.
Anything that would help improve reception and dropped calls would be greatly appreciated.
Actually come to think of it, one particular feature that I am looking for is the ablility to scroll easily through past calls using the directional pad (a la regular cell phone) versus having to hit "Call History" on the Touchpad.
Any direction would be appreciated.

Well... it's not much of a hard choice at the moment... check out the ftp, in the upload folder you'll find molski's latest. Faria's roms are no longer available... Besides molski's there's a couple of other AKU2 roms out there risidoro's for example... If you want something with a little more speed check out an AKU3 rom since it has quite the speed improvment... If you're satisfied with the rom that you're already using except for phone related issues you might want to consider upgrading the radio rom only. the latest is 2.47.11 and there's a thread that's quite active on where to find that and upgrade to it...
Today Speed Dial
Did it use log in number?
Past Calls

If I push the green phone button, I come to a screen that shows my last phone call. Then, I simply push "down" on the directional pad and I see all my recent calls.
Does that help?

Necessary installs w/ new ROM?

This site is amazing! I'm brand new to to smart phones and customizing anything like them and I want to try to learn as much as I can before I commit to anything like changing the ROM. I just got an ATT Tilt and stumbled on this website. I spent 3 hours last night reading threads, but I still have questions. I also have a 10 month old daughter who requires constant supervision so having that much time again to read anything isn't very likely. My questions are:
1. Is the newest ROM on this site the best one to go with?
2. If so I noticed something in the thread about the time and date. If I don't change the registry, which I don't know how to do, does the date not show up, if I install this ROM?
3. Other than the keyboard fix, are there any other necessary things I'll need to fix?
4. Will the 3g still work? I saw the answer posted to this question, but all I found was the explanation of what and where the 3g was.
Thanks in advance for your responses and I apologize if these are repeat questions, but like I mentioned I read everything I could on this site and I guess I just don't understand everything. Sorry for the long post. Thanks again.
I'm not sure which rom your talking about. I didn't have any problems with time, in terms of registry tweeking, with the Dutty 6.1 rom. The date and time shows with that, but all you have to do is change the setting, as in 12 hour format or 24 and so on.
Number 3 is best left to someone whos more knowledgable than me.
Regarding number 4. 3g worked with my phone when I used Dutty's Rom with a Polaris Radio and all.
I'm sure what threads you've read, but here are the ones that helped me out. 98% of my questions were answered with the following threads and links within.
Rom Flashing Faq for Newbies
White Screen Method
List of Kaiser Roms
Radios
If you do go with Dutty's rom, then read this Wiki
This last link is THE best place to start.
Thanks a lot. I had read all those threads last night, but it was a lot to take in at one time. I just wanted to make sure I was doing everything right. I think I'm going to use Dutty's (WM6.1) and I read the wiki you were talking about, but why did you choose the radio that you did?
The radio you choose depends on your location, usage, and device... make sure you use a radio that's compatible with WM6.1 if you're going to flash Dutty's Rom. Check my signature for the ROM i use, I'm from Manchester in UK and it works well for me.
Although... don't rush in to flashing you're phone, as you've stated you are new to smartphones and customizing... it's not very difficult, but pre-mature flashing is what causes people to end up with bricked devices...

To be honest, I dont remember the deciding factor, but I know it had to do with other peoples oppinion, US residents (for signals issues and what not), and a thread that had to do with Roms.

My Sad Experiences - Missing in Wiki / Incorrect in Post's #1

I have owned my Tilt for about 7 months and have always stuck with the stock ROMs. Extremely poor signal strength in my area has led me to try new radios, which, basically, entailed that I go all in on the ROMs. Ultimately, I had to revert to the current WM6.0 AT&T Stock ROM because there were just too many problems.
I have been with XDA Developers a long time, and find it invaluable. I have also found that it now the new trend to flame rather than answer. Bottom line, it IS possible to search and not find; and, regardless, 103 page posts are not going to be of any use to anyone. Its unfortunate.
So this message is really for those who control the Wiki and for those who control Post # 1 in their threads. There is so much information I could have used which might have made my transition a success. I provide this info in hopes that each individual in possession of editing ability might consider updating their threads.
1) HardSPL - Jaberwok has a solution for the White Screen. One of the MIDDLE powered-on steps is to remove your SIM and SD Cards. It is not possible on a Tilt (at least) to remove the sim while the unit is on. I would respectfully as that Jaberwok update his Page 1 to clarify when the SIM Card should be removed. As a note, the problem is that if you unlock the sim card slot the unit freezes and tells you it will reboot when you lock it. If you leave it unlocked the unit wont boot. If there the SIM card really needs to be out, it would be great if the instructions were reshuffled so that they don't give the impression that the SIM card is to be removed from any state other than a power off, with the door of the empty chamber locked.
2) AT&T Settings - I had decided to settle on Dutty's WM6.1 Hybrid ROM as it seemed to be one of the newer ones. The AT&T connectivity customization which runs was not correct (for the United States at least). The web might connect ok via MEdia Net, but nothing else would - preferring to go to ISP (which had isp.cingular). Attempting to change these settings to mirror the Stock AT&T settings did not provide any relief. There was no way to check messages. Perhaps part of the Wiki could explain how to take anyone's custom ROM, and get it to work on the AT&T network. Checking messages would result in a "dialing error" (no matter whether the advanced connection settings were set to MEdia Net for all uses, or the values were changed to mirror the wap.cingular settings).
3) Diamond - The master ROM sticky from the Wiki is a great resource. I was afraid to try Dutty's Diamond ROM because I had no idea if Diamond was a new phone, which would then cause me to brick mine.
4) Hard Resets - All of the installation instructions, whether on the individual cooker's Post 1, or in the Rom Wiki, are fairly inconsistent on when a Hard Reset is needed. Many posts on the forum indicate Problem X -> oh did you hard reset -> yeah that worked. An example of the vagueness is: Should I hard reset before I flash HardSPL? before I flash a Radio? before a flash a ROM? and then all of the above but using "after". Unless you are a cook, cooking your favorite apps into a rom, a Hard Reset is an awful bitter pill. If there are steps which do not require a Hard Reset, it would be of great benefit to know those.
5) Radio - Would love to know if I can flash a radio without a Hard Reset afterwards. Would also love to know if I can flash a radio into the stock AT&T ROM.
6) HardSPL Post 1 - Would love to see a line about whether you need to do anything different if you already have a different HardSPL installed.
Anyway, these are the questions which I believe would be wonderful additions to the various wiki posts, etc. While I anticipate the necessary flames (gotta keep those post counts up, I guess), I believe anyone in control of these threads will note these omissions. I ask that THOSE people understand that everyone is new at flashing at least once, regardless of how experienced they are, and these omissions have tangled at least one poor soul up.
Of course, if anyone out there is also honestly willing to help with the underlying problem, I would love for some help ... I just want to get the best radio I can on my phone. If there is a ROM out there which is right for the AT&T Tilt (meaning, the AT&T connectivity settings are correct, and the keyboard is properly mapped), which has a better radio, I would dearly love to know about it.
Thanks for reading.
Re Hard resets.
Most cooked roms require you to do an additional hard reset after the device has been flashed and restarted.
This is simply something that people have learnt from experience.
The only other times you hard reset after:
1) Phone simply won't respond after trying everything
2) You've installed something and it has screwed your settings beyond any chance of recovery
3) Your rom has got cluttered after loads of installs and uninstalls... and you need to "clean" your rom but still want to keep the same one.
(But I agree that "first post" maintenance would be really handy - but the rom chefs are busy cooking - someone else should volunteer to update their first three posts.
OK But to Start all my answers were learned FROM reading and searching. Just FYI.
1) I can't really answer this. I didn't have the write screen problem.
2) If I recall correctly just about the majority of people here use MEdiaNet for their connection. There are a couple people I remember saying that they use the ISP, and they just simply changed the setting manually. If you get it to work, I'd be happy to help you create a CAB for it.
3) Rest assured that even though the Diamond is a new phone if the ROM is posted in the Kaiser Forum. Its "ok to use it on your phone. If you are worried you can wait until a couple people try it and say "This Works great" Then you can look at their signature and see they are using a Kaiser.
4) The most common answer it After a ROM flash right at when you See the "Tap to Begin" Screen.
5) I never Hard Reset after I flash a radio. I flash so much though. People recommend you flash the radio first, I've done it both ways. I Personally don't notice a difference. Questions about What radio will work with Stock AT&T ROMs, Which I believe are still WM 6.0, are toroughly answered in AllTheWays Ultimate radio Thread.
6) That would be nice. Would get more notice by the Ones in the KNow about those things if this qustion was posting in that specific thread.
7) Anyone should feel free to edit and add to the WIKI.
8) IIRC shogunmark's Death is an AT&T Tilt based ROM. But the Tytn II based Roms work fine on the Tilt. You just have to install the Tilt Keyboard Fix and Soft Reset.

I too have been a Tilt owner for 8 months, first came across this site last Nov. At that point, the Kaiser forum consisted of speculation on when the Tilt would appear in the US. I was a lurker for 6 months before I joined and posted my first question. Until then I searched ( Forum and Google ) for all my info and never, I mean never did I not find an answer to my questions.
Yes it took time and perseverance but the information was ALWAYS there.I will steadfastly stand here and argue with anyone who says " I searched and found nothing " and tell them " you searched, got bored, it was too much trouble, and you wanted instant gratification ", that is why you are posting. ( Except genuine questions on newly released items ).
That is the real reason why it is so difficult to search. Redundant posts and lazy people who think their time is too valuable to search. Want an example?
JimmyMcGee, over 1000 posts, 0 new threads
Harkadenn, 330 posts over forty new threads, 36 in one month alone, before he finally sold his phone. He had a problem, started a thread
One person, multiply that times 1000 people who think that we should just answer their questions as they come up, and not flame them to search.
I will do the math, 36000 new threads per month, you think it is impossible to search through crap now? It was not always like this, it was made like this.

Everyone has the ability to edit the Wiki. The information in this site evolves. ( see the new info about how different Spls affect your phone)The problem with the Wiki is that the people with the info mostly don't use it, the people looking for info do. Do not leave it up to everyone else. Every member has the ability and thus the responsibility to correct or update any information they feel is wrong or misguiding in the Wiki.
Anyway, these are the questions which I believe would be wonderful additions to the various wiki posts, etc. While I anticipate the necessary flames (gotta keep those post counts up, I guess), I believe anyone in control of these threads will note these omissions. Yes we were all new at one time. Many of us searched (eight months, 200 posts, 2 new threads ) any too many didn't ( which is why we are talking about this ) . But don't blame the people flaming redundant thread starters( the people padding their post counts as you put it ). The remedy starts with you and me.
Now take the answers you get in this thread and add them to the Wiki for all others.

problem because unlocking, then unable to use gps receiver

Hello all, just found a more specific forum for Kaiser so I thought it is worth posting this here again....
Some posts might have already discussed this, but I am not very good with gadgets, and I have a specific problem which I need help with, so I thought it is better to start a new thread.
So this is my story. (by the way, my phone is HTC TyTn II)
I unlocked my phone in other country and apparently the software on my phone is now for HTC touch dual (I think - because everytime I switched it on, it says Touch Dual).
I used to be able to use bluetooth before and now,I can't.
Then, I was trying to download a gps sofware (or whatever you call it) on my phone - it is called miomap. I can view the map but it does not detect where I am like a normal GPS/tomtom would.
My questions are:
(and I am sorry if this questions sounds too dumb. I try to read and get the answers from other thread and websites, but I am too dumb in this stuff to take them in)
1. Do i need GPS receiver to be able to use it as GPS system? As at the back of it, there is word saying GPs, andd looks like I can connect it to something.
2. If I don't need one, what should I do?
3. Do you reckon I should download the original software for TYtn II?
Please help me, and thanks for your help in advance.
The GPS is built in...Yes you should flash a rom that is TyTN II spefic...first off read this first.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=433835 this will help you understand how to flash.
Then read the other stickies, afterwards pick out a spefic rom that will meet your needs. BTW check out this rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=428261
there our other great roms , so be sure to look them all over too.
