My Diamond becomes slow after few days - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV General

I noticed after few days (3-4 days) my Diamond becomes slow little bit, I checked memory and still I have 27M free, Nothing in Task Manager , I even closed all the programs, ofcorse SR help.. I guess it's leakage memory or something...
Did some1 measure what is the Diamond uptime without SR ?

details of ROM and Radio would be useful

Rom 1.93.456.2
Radio 05

Have you tried rebooting? (soft reset). It is a little PC you know.

More of that , if I close all programs I have 35M free
(I even closed TF3D and re open it from today),
after SR (Soft Restet) I have 53M !!!, so where 18M gone ?
With my old P3300 (WM5) I made SR once in 2-3 weeks..

Mine too. calupd.exe seems to hang. The previous time it did that I had to hard reset, but I can't do that every 2 weeks. Does anybody else have this problem? My ROM ver is in my signature.

I find that too. A soft reset helps.

I get similar problems and soft reset a few times a day. I've downloaded fdcsoft taskmanager to troubleshoot by soft resetting and making a note of what is running. I've noticed a few processes leave themselves in memory such as RSS Hub, AlbumSearcher.exe, AudioManager_eng.exe, tmail.exe. I'm sure there's others aswell but you'll need to look at what is running on your device after soft reset as you may have additional programs or different software to me. I am still trying to find others and ways of closing these without having to keep opening the Task Manager.

I found a solution to stop calupdate.exe: just change the time zone and then switch back. Not sure how permanent the solution is, but time will tell... In any case, it's much faster than reset.

Terminate proces "cprog.exe" with some task manager , then press a call button and wait for 6-7 second while phone is come on the screen. It is all what you need

i reset my axim x30 like once every 6 months... my phone? everyday. its ridiculous.

By killing cprog.exe it stuck Task Manager itself and after few second cprog.exe becomes "fat" back exacly as it was b4 killing...

I use SKSchema to automatically soft reset my Diamond every day, before I get up in the morning. I'll also keep an eye on memory usage and reset if free memory drops too low (usually anywhere below 40MB free) after using large applications.
This is Windows after all, not Linux - it needs frequent resets but that needn't be a hassle.

About the soft reset every day, I still investigate wired and strange behavior,
If I put the Diamond to sleep (charge) b4 Midnight it may get Reboot by itself
during the night (I have no auto backup or something), If i put the Diamond to sleep after Midnight , so no reboot during the night, did some1 can explain this wired behavior ?
I don't know if there is connection but If I turn on Diamond lets at 00:30
after Midight , I see the Clock update fast from 00:00 , 00:01 , 00:02 and so on till it arrives to 00:30 (There is other thread about this strange behavior)
All I can say, something happened in Diamond at Midnight..
It's not Linux, but still no needs reboot every day, it should run at least 1-2 weeks without SR

YES , but the memory usage ist lower then befor, for example befor I have 70 % of memory used , after 55 % , and it is normal for Diamond with TouchFlo.

Maybe it help in some cases like it help u, I didn't see any free memory by killing the cprog.exe...(it comes back as it was and free memory remain the same)

I think problem is with app "phone" whitch is in memory 2-4 times, and if you terminate cprog.exe and restart it (with call button) phone app will by only 1 times in memory.
This help you only if Diamond goin too slow (memory usage upper 70 %) and you don`t need restart it.

The best solution for saving memory (TouchFlo3D is working but phone is outside)
"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\Phone\Skin"
REG_DWORD from 1 to 0

Is powering the phone off and on the same as soft reset? I power the phone off at night before I go to bed and power it on the next morning. The phone works very well so far.

Try adjusting the amount of allocated "program memory".
I had similar problems before, but now everything works perfectly!!!
My setting is 40 MB program memory.
PS. Today I drove around 8 hours in Denmark and Sweden using TomTom 3. Without it I would be lost...
thanks i tried that but its still the same any one else got any ideas. thanks
M1bwe,
Because this is all sitting on Microsoft technologies  , I that was me, I would apply the 3 most basic patch of all : 1. Reinstall ttn, or 2. remove and Reinstall ttn or 3. Hard Reset and Reinstall ttn
For me, this would take me 10 minutes as I have few apps. 10 minutes is surely less then than figuring out what the problem is
Intellectually, this is not satisfactory , but I have found it time efficient

Big Issue! ActiveSync slows device problem!

Hi, this is big issue, couse nobody solved it yet. How is it posible, that Diamond is verys low after connection with PC using ActiveSync? Just try it, try scrolling in programs folder, then plug Diamond to PC using active sync, disconnect it, and try it again. It will be much slower. Or try VS bench after Active Sync session, you will get much worse results. Graphic went from 2300 to 1300 points after Active Sync connection. Diamond goes to normal speed after soft reset only. Please, share you ideas and experiences with this issue.

Indeed its true, but it does not happen when you use the device as a Disk Drive.
Yes, I know, but this should not happen. Any ideas why? It is strange. Do you think it is becouse some software problem? None of my previous phones did this. If it is software, new ROM can solve it, but if this is hardware... Did some of your phones do this?
this happens with other HTC devices (and maybe other WM) as well. I have a TC, and I notice it too. Its only when it's actually doing the sync. Once the sync is completed, mine goes back to normal. And when I disconnect, all's good as well. Are you saying its slow all the time once you activesync, even if you then disconnect?
Yes, exactly. I disconncet Diamond from PC, even stop ActiveSync in task manager on Diamond, and whole system is much slower. As I wrote, vs bench takes 1000 away after active sync. But, and that must be mistake, vs bench add 700 point to saund test, but as I said, this must be error of VS Bench. Whole system is slow.
Hmmm, well that's strange, and I don't know what might be causing that (esp sinc eI don't have a Diamond myself). i did have a similar issue with my TyTN a while back. I think it amounted to some software I installed and a very "dirty" notification queue. I ended up hard resetting and all was back to normal. I hope it isn't something like that for you.

Ahhhh, so this may be the issue I've been having ...
I'm going to have to test this further to confirm but after a soft reset, my "bubbleshooter" game (yes, I know - childish for a 45 year old company director but it passes the time at airports etc.) works great. However, at some point after running several things, the game becomes very slow. Still playable but at half speed. I thought it was my Intellisync client (for Lotus Notes) or some of the background apps like quickGPS etc. but this may be it. I also confirm that even if I stop all apps (cleanly or forcibly), the problem remains.
I'll post back and confirm if I can duplicate or not. I will also check TaskMgr (the good one included on Dutty's ROM) to see what's running after a soft reset and what's running after ActivSync is started / stopped. Maybe it's leaving something behind ...

Gary.

Sergio,
Sorry to bring bad news but you've missed the point completely .... We are talking about AFTER you've run Activesync, unplugged the device and shut down Activesync. When Activesync is running, for me it's to replicate mail, charge, copy files etc. - not to play games or watch films. When it's connected, I'm aware that there may be many activities ongoing so don't expect high frame-rate etc. etc. However, when I disconnect from the USB line and shut down Activesync, I expect full performance (which is not the case).
Hope that clarifies the issue for you.
Regards,
Gary.

the "kick ass commsss" should not but slowing down the device after the activesync has disconnected, i think thats the problem
Not only being slow even after being disconnected: Activesync starts up by itself and even if I shut it down, it reopens...

Yes sorry if I missed the point.
What about this: Check if active sync is still running after you activate it.
Either tap on right upper part to close or use Task manager to close activesync. Cause it still runs after you disconect the Jewel from computer.

Well, yes, for begining it is good that finally somebody cares about this problem. For now, only one thing that can reverse phone slowdown after activesync is soft reset. I tested it on other phones (Asus P535, Mio a701) no one has this problem. But they all were running WM 5 maybe WM 6.1 coue this problem. I am begginer, i can only guess, you are the experts, so please excuse my mistakes if there are some. If you want to know this slowdown in numbers, go to ROM development -> some benchamrking -> and open tab of tested ROMs. Original ROM 1.93 has very bad graphics points, but Very goo sound points. This is the ActiveSync problem. I tested it twice, after soft reset, benchmark results are similiar to other ROMs withount any "strange" numbers.
So, I wrote message about this problem to HTC, maybe, just maybe some fix will come.
I've been told about eLiAs ASyncKiller. It seems to kill ActiveSync when you disconnect.
This may solve your problem
It happens to me to, but i notice that when I close Activesync down the memory usage figures in the top right corner when you select the drop down arrow, dont change. In fact, as we all know, the memory usage creeps up, and when mine gets to about 70% the phone does get quite slow and a soft reset always fixes it. Then memory usage goes back to 56% starting from scratch.
I thought the memory leaking problems were fixed in the latest 1.93 ROM? Is this not the case?
Thats what I put it down to.

I had this problem on my Orange UK Diamond with factory ROM. After 2 hard resets it stopped happening but I had other problems with the phone and had it replaced. Now whenever I soft reset the newly exchanged phone ActiveSync starts up and I have to close from Task Manager. I have tried a couple of hard resets to no avail. I also quite often get problems with manila.exe that may be linked. I'm getting really frustrated with this device! Never had so many problems with a new phone/pda.

Hi,
I am having a strange problem with Active Sync.
When I plug in my mobile with USB and use active sync. it does not synchornise.
I have tried all the options liek chaning schedule, changing the settings and diabling advanced network functionality still I am not able to make the diamond synchronise.
Finally, I downloaded the active sync. 4.5 even then my problem remains the same.
It always shows the message "connected" ( green icon )and fails to synchronise.
thanks for any help..

HTC Diamond randomly restarts

Hi,
I noticed that my Diamond keeps frequently decides to restart, especially overnight when recharging. Anyone know something about this?
have had the same problem in the past restarts 1-2 an hour. installed diff rom and no problems. will try to think of the rom builds which might be more helpfull
had the same issue with rom 1.35 when first gotten the phone.
its been resolved since I upgraded to 1.93

I've had this issue with BePe 0.97, under same circunstances: charging at night.
But I had an additional issue, as the phone was endlessly restarting. It showed the initial screen and vibrated, but before it showed the ROM and Radio version it restarted again. Eventually I was able to put the PIN and boot WMobile, and I quickly turned the flight mode on (as I wanted it to be stable at night, as I needed the alarm this morning).
I've no idea about what happened, as I had made no changes, but lastly the phone only charges 2 bars during all night long, and I can't connect it to the PC via ActiveSync. (I don't know if it can be related to this problem...)
Hi all,
I am working on the official HTC rom (I believe it's 1.37) and have not installed any unknown software...
1.35 rom on my wife's TD, same problem as yours
1.37 rom on mine, same problem, abeit less frequent
now both on 1.93 rom, no problems.
maybe give it a try, been pretty smooth on both TDs so far without any tweaks done
1.93 restarts
My HTC Diamond restarts during recharge at night.. i have 1.93. this sucks.. Anyone else have this issue?
try doing a hard reset.
i had some issues like opera not working n some others that i can't recall offhand b4 when first upgraded to 1.93
i did a hard reset and have not had any issues since
funny thing is, everyday at midnight, if i were wake the phone, the minutes flap on the clock will start to flip non-stop till the exact minute eg. 12.39am; the minutes flap will continuously flip from 12.00 to 12.39
My diamond also does random restarts. Not only while charging at night, but during the day, while working with it, too.
I tried a lot of roms. On some the restarts where less frequent, but still there. Any idea what I can do about it?

Hi,
My Diamond also random restarts. I try 3 type ROM (original CZECH, original ENGLISH, Dutty), but Diamond random restarts. Any idea???
(sorry for my english )
Hard-SPL or warranty return
Dare I suggest it, but if you have this issue AFTER a rom change, and/or after a a HARD reset then the only thing left is your SPL (Hard or otherwise)...have you "played" around here yet?
If you have and this has made no change I would be beating a path to your handset provider with you warranty card for service repair or replacement!!!

My HTC Touch Diamond has 1.93 installed and it's still happening.
Have 3 HTC Diamonds, 2 working fine and 1 got this problem since the day I bought it.
Anyone has link to download the 1.35 ROM? Thanks.
I dont think that it has something to do with Hard-SPL. I had the problem with the original rom to (never flashed).
I now used Aztor Rom, didnt install any apps, but the restarts still happen. I have the feeling that they only happen if applications were running.
Maybe the storrage gets to full?
Tonight I am going to install Panosha shine on v2.0 with a bigger pagepool- maybe that helps?!?

I got the same issue
I bought HTC diamond 20 days back. It is restarting automatically . sometimes while incoming call recieved or sometimes while calling others from contacts. sometimes in the night by itself getting restarted. more over sometime it is automatically switched off.
I am using ROM 1.93.720.2.
Can anyone help me out here
Turns off while charging and changes the clock
Hi guys, I noticed none of you had the problem like i did:
If I leave my Diamond to be charged during the night, sometimes it works just fine and nothing happens. But like this morning it really f*cked me up: It reboots and when i woke up (to the sound of the alarm clock) it was in the "enter pin" screen. TouchFlo3d worked just fine and I inserted the pin code and it's been working just fine since then. The only problem (which I discovered after my morning shower) came up when my boss called me and told me I was already 10 minutes late (work starts at 3pm). My Diamond showed me that it was still 2.35pm and I had been woken up by the alarm at 2.20 as I had set it.
So the problem: The device turns off during charging and changes the time of the clock (or the clock jams and doesn't update for a while...)
I have the 1.93.414.1 WWe ROM from htc.com and eveyrthing else works just fine. This problem was first discovered when I bought this device with the original 1.34 ROM I believe.. Updated to 1.93 and still it continues. Any suggestions ?
How did you enter the pin to boot to windows mobile? I have the same problem it keeps rebooting itself and I do not know what to do, I did hard reset but it did not help.
Thanks.
I start to investigate the wired issue...
I noticed if I put the Diamond to sleep (charge) after Midnight nothing happened and no restart during night , if I put Diamond before Midnight , then it may get Restart during the night..
The other issue I noticed the wired Clock between 00:00 and 00:39 as
some reported here, if you open the Diamond , lets say at 00:30 , u will see clock start from 00:00 to 00:01 , 00:02 etc till it arrive to 00:30 ,
I m using Second Today screen with Digital clock installed and found that there is no problem in clock , i'll explain:
During the clock moving from 00:00 to 00:30 (in the TF3D) I pressed on the Second Today and saw clock 00:30, moved back to TF3D and saw clock continue moving to the "target" 00:30..
I made 1 +1 (restart problem and clock problem) and found that the problem comes from TF3D...
To prove it I made this test - I put Diamond to sleep before Midnight ,
but after Shut down the TF3D from setting >> Today
and open the TF3D back during the morning...
Since I made it, No restart during night anymore...
So all you have to do is to close the TF3D to prevent from restert during night, and open it back in the morning..
Try it too so we can be sure it's TF3D problem..
Seems like TF3D needs to sleep too during the night
Bug in TF3d
On Duttys penultimate rom I had the clock issue but also when I went to contacts. TF3d wouldn't display them and reverted to the home screen again.

Odd Kaiser Problem - Shuts Down on Web Browsing

Don't know if this is a new problem or a different appearance for a common problem, but my kaiser has taken to switching off when I browse the web (on battery). On charger it's fine and I'm posting like that now.
I'll start at the beginning
For Most Web Browsing I Use Opera 9.51 Beta 15894 over the last fed weeks I had recieved a number of low space warnings and removed various programs to try and resolve it without success. I went to check the size of Opera's cache and found the Application data/Opera 9.5 Beta folder was full of Corrupted files marked at sizes ranging from 18Kb to 1.3Gb (unlikely since the drive is only 256Mb)
I tried various routes to delete these files, booting into safemode, downloading scandisk style tools (which despite advertising only scanned/repaired mmory cards.) In the end I simply renamed the folder and recreated the original Opera folder.
Since then, if I'm using the internet whilst not plugged in, the phone will turn off after 15 minutes. The browser in use doesn't matter what browser is in use (opera and skyfire have both done it)
Sometimes it then has dificulty turning back on, reaching the Windows Mobile Screen and shutting back down. But if you wait a few minutes it will turn on fully.
In some cases the battery is still full and can go a whole day of idling/using apps/making calls and texting without problems but will shut down again on using a web browser.
I'm usually quite good at isolating problems, but this has me stumped at first I though an Opera bug or Virus, but skyfire ruled out the former and I can't find any information on the existence of the latter. Does anyone have ideas/suggestions?
I don't understand why it only shuts down on battery power, that's a strange one, but I guess the first thing to do is sort your low memory problem.
Have you tried clearTemp?
http://mobisapienz.com/index.php?option=com_jdownloads&Itemid=82&task=finish&cid=50&catid=12
This attached cab can let you have a look at what is taking up space.
Have you considered backing up and hard reseting?? That sorts out every problem!
At first I thought it was a battery/charging issue - which Opera certainly does affect. If I leave Opera running in the foreground during a charging cycle then a charge won't last more than a few hours - I think the browser regularly does refreshes powering everything on and using almost as much power as it's getting in to it. But the fact in this case that after finally getting it turned back on I have enough power to go the whole day suggests it's not that.
I saw the link for these utilities earlier today and will take a shot at using them. I worry however that these corrupted files showing a size in the Gb range may throw everything off and I won't find the real culprits.
With my two previous phones (HTC Wizard and Nokia 9300) Hard Resets left me with no end of problems - so whilst I have it in my mind it will be the very very last resort.
Well I hope one of the programs helps you find the problem.
As far as hard reseting goes, it should put your phone back to normal with everything cleared!? - a fresh start!!
If I didn't flash new ROMs so often I'd do this regularly anyway just to stop the phone lagging etc....
Before I hard reset I always think "if my phone got stolen what would I be gutted about losing" - I back those up and get it done!
I'm sure you can find some free backup software on a search, PIM backup is the obvious one.....
Good luck.
i had a siemens phone some years back that had a similar problem. when connected with a pc using a special data cable connection to the rs232 port and trying to sync, the screen dimmed and after a few seconds, the phone died
problem was, the battery was not charged when connected and was way to old and damaged and unable to handle the power consumption caused by the sync. the phone worked fine with a new battery.

@Operative1
I was thinking the same, especially when it started happening during phonecalls as well.
However yesterday I found that the file corruption problem had spread affecting several other apps as well as Opera. Pocket player was the worst affected.
So I went for a Backup and Hard Reset and it went off without incident. I've been intermitently testing Opera this morning and it hasn't done it yet.
I'm also know the corruption was affecting my registry, so I'm wondering if it was also affecting the charging/power management software.
I'll keep monitoring and report back if it re-appears.
Phone Shuts down when browsing web

Mine has now spread and affects everything, phone calls, texts, last night it went using Pocket Player. I've been considering fully discharging and recharging the battery but these intermittent cut-outs don't allow it to fully discharge.
I'm going to be buying a new battery soon in hopes it fixes it.

8 hours in with the new battery and no problems. I've upgraded to a 2600mA one so I'm hoping the extra life will allow me a full charge/discharge cycle to prevent it happening again. I'll also be disabling charging duuuring internet connection sharing.
Sweet so no more turning off while browsing the web??? Where did you get your battery from?? Thanks!
A new battery would be the only fix for this. I had the same problem a while back with mine and I took a volt meter to the old battery and at full charge it was only out 3.6~V instead of the 4.2 so when something like a data connection was going the phone didn't have enough power to stay on and it shut off. it got so bad at one point that I couldn't even boot the phone without plugging it in.
anyone can resolve that problem?

OK, I have been having the same problems. I ordered a new battery and put it in today. It did not fix the issue. The phone still continues to turn off. Any suggestions?

A new battery fix my tilt problem
I replace the battery of my tilt on August for this
http://www.smavtronics.com/1600mah-l...lt-series.html
$18 dls shipped.
And since then has been working like a champ, no more reboots or going off, I have been using the Skyfire a lot in the last two days with the normal phone calls and the battery is still at 36%
This has been the best $18 dls that I have invest.

i try 'clear storage' in the settings, put 1234, after that i install the HardSPL, put a new room and new radio version.
hard reset its different?
how i do this?
sorry for the question, when i install a new room i do a hard reset follow this steps:
d. NOTE: After you flash the ROM, when you get to the whole "Please tap the
screen to begin setting up your Windows-Mobile based device", hard reset by
holding down the two soft keys while pushing the stylus into the reset hole.
You should get to a white-colored screen. Just follow the directions on that
screen and then reboot. This fixes many issues, and is also known to make your ROM perform at 100%.
my last choise is buy a new battery!
travelingsurfer, the battery do you buy is 1600mah?
i question this because my frind have a kaiser and i change my battery with him, but my problem not solved!
I replaced it with the exact same brand/model that was in there to begin with. it is 1350mah
Once I can get it to turn on all the way again, i'm going to backup everything and try the hard reset.

Touch diamond 2 Standby.

Hi all,
Since 2 days i have a Touch diamond 2, i hard SPLed it and flashed serveral roms and i liked the Energy rom the most so thats on it now. now my problem is nomatter wich rom it can't standby properly.
If i press the power button (to put it in standby) it wakes op 3 seconds later or so. it doesn't happen every time but it happens often.
What to do about this??
Greetings
Try this cab.
Also, make sure you're hard resetting after reach flash or previous settings could be retained.
what does the cab do? cause it locks thats not the problem only problem is it won't stay in standby every time.
Sets it to autolock.
You probably changed a registry setting when you installed those tweaks, so this will hopefully restore it.
i tried the cab and it doesnt fix my problem i already told you it locks fine when i put it on standby it only wakes up by itself...

There are other power settings in the cab from my registry and I do not have this problem so I thought it may solve your issue.
You probably need to hard reset.
