Don't know if this is a new problem or a different appearance for a common problem, but my kaiser has taken to switching off when I browse the web (on battery). On charger it's fine and I'm posting like that now.
I'll start at the beginning
For Most Web Browsing I Use Opera 9.51 Beta 15894 over the last fed weeks I had recieved a number of low space warnings and removed various programs to try and resolve it without success. I went to check the size of Opera's cache and found the Application data/Opera 9.5 Beta folder was full of Corrupted files marked at sizes ranging from 18Kb to 1.3Gb (unlikely since the drive is only 256Mb)
I tried various routes to delete these files, booting into safemode, downloading scandisk style tools (which despite advertising only scanned/repaired mmory cards.) In the end I simply renamed the folder and recreated the original Opera folder.
Since then, if I'm using the internet whilst not plugged in, the phone will turn off after 15 minutes. The browser in use doesn't matter what browser is in use (opera and skyfire have both done it)
Sometimes it then has dificulty turning back on, reaching the Windows Mobile Screen and shutting back down. But if you wait a few minutes it will turn on fully.
In some cases the battery is still full and can go a whole day of idling/using apps/making calls and texting without problems but will shut down again on using a web browser.
I'm usually quite good at isolating problems, but this has me stumped at first I though an Opera bug or Virus, but skyfire ruled out the former and I can't find any information on the existence of the latter. Does anyone have ideas/suggestions?
I don't understand why it only shuts down on battery power, that's a strange one, but I guess the first thing to do is sort your low memory problem.
Have you tried clearTemp?
http://mobisapienz.com/index.php?option=com_jdownloads&Itemid=82&task=finish&cid=50&catid=12
This attached cab can let you have a look at what is taking up space.
Have you considered backing up and hard reseting?? That sorts out every problem!
At first I thought it was a battery/charging issue - which Opera certainly does affect. If I leave Opera running in the foreground during a charging cycle then a charge won't last more than a few hours - I think the browser regularly does refreshes powering everything on and using almost as much power as it's getting in to it. But the fact in this case that after finally getting it turned back on I have enough power to go the whole day suggests it's not that.
I saw the link for these utilities earlier today and will take a shot at using them. I worry however that these corrupted files showing a size in the Gb range may throw everything off and I won't find the real culprits.
With my two previous phones (HTC Wizard and Nokia 9300) Hard Resets left me with no end of problems - so whilst I have it in my mind it will be the very very last resort.
Well I hope one of the programs helps you find the problem.
As far as hard reseting goes, it should put your phone back to normal with everything cleared!? - a fresh start!!
If I didn't flash new ROMs so often I'd do this regularly anyway just to stop the phone lagging etc....
Before I hard reset I always think "if my phone got stolen what would I be gutted about losing" - I back those up and get it done!
I'm sure you can find some free backup software on a search, PIM backup is the obvious one.....
Good luck.
i had a siemens phone some years back that had a similar problem. when connected with a pc using a special data cable connection to the rs232 port and trying to sync, the screen dimmed and after a few seconds, the phone died
problem was, the battery was not charged when connected and was way to old and damaged and unable to handle the power consumption caused by the sync. the phone worked fine with a new battery.

@Operative1
I was thinking the same, especially when it started happening during phonecalls as well.
However yesterday I found that the file corruption problem had spread affecting several other apps as well as Opera. Pocket player was the worst affected.
So I went for a Backup and Hard Reset and it went off without incident. I've been intermitently testing Opera this morning and it hasn't done it yet.
I'm also know the corruption was affecting my registry, so I'm wondering if it was also affecting the charging/power management software.
I'll keep monitoring and report back if it re-appears.
Phone Shuts down when browsing web
Has anyone found out a solution to this or have any suggestions?? I am having the same exact problem. When browsing the web no matter what browser i use the phone will randomly shut off... Not a reset it just shuts off.. and u turn it back on by pushing the power button and it starts like normal. but if u go to surf the web again it will shut off..
This problem is very irritating.. I've tried flashing different roms.. hard resets.. etc.. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.. Thanks!!

Mine has now spread and affects everything, phone calls, texts, last night it went using Pocket Player. I've been considering fully discharging and recharging the battery but these intermittent cut-outs don't allow it to fully discharge.
I'm going to be buying a new battery soon in hopes it fixes it.
Wow thats not good im kinda concerned now.. don't have money to buy a new phone!! let me know if the battery sovles the problem.. i hope thats all it is... ThanksS!!

8 hours in with the new battery and no problems. I've upgraded to a 2600mA one so I'm hoping the extra life will allow me a full charge/discharge cycle to prevent it happening again. I'll also be disabling charging duuuring internet connection sharing.
Sweet so no more turning off while browsing the web??? Where did you get your battery from?? Thanks!
A new battery would be the only fix for this. I had the same problem a while back with mine and I took a volt meter to the old battery and at full charge it was only out 3.6~V instead of the 4.2 so when something like a data connection was going the phone didn't have enough power to stay on and it shut off. it got so bad at one point that I couldn't even boot the phone without plugging it in.
anyone can resolve that problem?

$18 dls shipped.
And since then has been working like a champ, no more reboots or going off, I have been using the Skyfire a lot in the last two days with the normal phone calls and the battery is still at 36%
This has been the best $18 dls that I have invest.

i try 'clear storage' in the settings, put 1234, after that i install the HardSPL, put a new room and new radio version.
hard reset its different?
how i do this?
sorry for the question, when i install a new room i do a hard reset follow this steps:
d. NOTE: After you flash the ROM, when you get to the whole "Please tap the
screen to begin setting up your Windows-Mobile based device", hard reset by
holding down the two soft keys while pushing the stylus into the reset hole.
You should get to a white-colored screen. Just follow the directions on that
screen and then reboot. This fixes many issues, and is also known to make your ROM perform at 100%.
my last choise is buy a new battery!
travelingsurfer, the battery do you buy is 1600mah?
i question this because my frind have a kaiser and i change my battery with him, but my problem not solved!
I replaced it with the exact same brand/model that was in there to begin with. it is 1350mah
Once I can get it to turn on all the way again, i'm going to backup everything and try the hard reset.

Hi,
I have a Qtek9090 which I upgraded yesterday to Helmi BA WM2k5 AKU2.6 Beta (v.1.1.2 Beta).
Everything went fine and I do like it (apart from the usual problems with WiFi, BT,...).
However I got into a shock-state when I turned it on this morning after leaving it in the craddle during the night for charging:
It would turn on, but the screen was completly f..ked up!!!
I did a Softreset -> screen still messed up
I did a Hardreset -> screen still messed up
I did reflash the upgrade -> screen still messed up
I took out the battery for half an hour and put it back -> still the same
After many resets and so on, suddenly I got the color stripes again and the phone booted normaly. I did not even loose any data.
Next I put it to charge again and after a while (the screen went off meanwhile), I turned it on and guess: scrambled screen again.
This time, I did the Reset this way: battery-notch off, kept the Softreset pressed and simultaneously put the battery-notch on again.
Is this a known problem (shouldn't be - I searched the forum!)?
Why does this happen?
Any ideas???
Also, I have these questions:
- What is this selection one has to do after the upgrade for (2. and 3. item YES)? What should the first item be: YES or NO? Can this be the cause for my problem?
- Would it be wise to downgrade again? (In case this is a defect -> so I can try to claim warranty, if things get worse...)
- What is the patch for energy management for? Where can I download it, as the link in the Wiki does not work? (Has this to do with my problem?)
Thanks,
vma
The problem remains.
It does not seem to depend on the charging, but happens when the device is turned off for some time.
When I turn it on it will either work fine, or funtion with a wild flickering screen.
Arrggghhhh!!!
Am I the only one with this problem?
Cheers,
vma
Hi,
Some month have passed on this issue. The reason I did not post about it, was because I had to send my BA for repair and one never knows if the "enemy" is listening... Now the warranty has expired anyway and mey BA is fully working.
It may have been a coincidence, but one day after the upgrade the screen went mad and totally messed up. Only 1 Hardreset in about 100 tries would bring it back to normal for some period of time and even reflashing it with WM5 or 2003SE would not make it work normal again.
The screen would get messed up suddenly for no particular reason, normally during a standby.
At the end I had to send it in for repair, which was actually a good thing, as I complained about the loose stylo and bad working hardkeys, all within warranty.
I got a new key-pcb, backside and they reflashed the device with 2003SE.
I am almost sure that I must have done something wrong with the upgrade to WM5.
Strangely I was able to flash 2003SE onto it, though it did still not work properly: hours with messed screen and sometimes out of the blue I would turn it on and the screen was OK again for a few hours.
Could it be a bad cable connection, which got repaired as well? Was it just a software problem?
One of the things I was in doubt with: when you enter this menu to format the device, the instructions say to switch two options, but the menu on my device had three options. Sorry - I do not exactly recall the details.
Anyone with an idea, why my device went mad?
As a side-note: while WM5 was great, while it worked during the one day it worked. I specially liked to be able to turn the device completly off or being able to remove the battery without loosing data.
However: not having my beloved BA fo two weeks made me reconsider doing experiments on it. Since I have it back I did not reconsider flashing it again.
But I would like to understand what had happend...
Cheers,
vma
May I assume from the lack of replies, that this was a pure coincidence on my device?
Nobody else experimented this weird problems after upgrading to WM5?
I am considering upgrading my phone again, essentially because I am tired of being afraid of discharging the battery and thus losing all data...
Cheers,
vma
ok so here's the situation. I know that my battery is bad but i don't know if that's causing the problem. I was working on my car today and noticed that i had a text, so when i tried to open it, the phone froze. I thought no biggie and soft reset the phone. Here's where the problem began. It was on the loading screen.....and never did anything else. So i reset again and again until i plugged it to a wall. Same thing. It eventually booted up all the way, but it was acting way too slow. It would take more than 2 minutes to respond to an input. When I tried to make a call after it was on the phonepad, it took 3 minutes to even dial the speednumber and make the call. The call went through with no events. I patiently went to my back up program to try to back up my info and whatnot and it was so slow that it didn't back anything up. Has anyone had this problem before? I hope I explained it clearly.
My current rom is Solace 3.1 from mbarvian.
The best is if you replace the battery. It can be so slow cause of the battery. But it can also be your ROM. You could try a different ROM but I wouldn't recommend that until you have a better battery.
truth be told, i was holding off on the battery until the pro touch 2 came out for AT&T, but now i think it's best, even if i don't keep the phone. I have it plugged into the wall right now and it still doesnt want to finish backing up my stuff.
Is that a 6.5 ROM?
Get a replacement battery. You can try eBay. I have had good luck with battery there.
Once you have battery, backup your data and note down all you settings and then hard reset. After reset, redo your settings, restore your data. It should be fast as new.
seems strange that it would be a battery causing the phone to lock up, normally it is a program or something that causes it. If you have the phone plugged in to the wall and it still happens then I would say " how could it be the battery when that's not the power source"..
Keep trying to back it up, then hardreset the phone.
to answer a few posts back, it's a 6.1 rom. As far as the battery goes, i left it plugged for 24hours and then when i tried turning it on, still slow as always. I'm beginning to think that it's a combination of a corrupt rom and bad battery. I NEED to back up my stuff, but i wonder how i can do it if it's acting all slow.
I think it's just a problem with the rom. Good luck backing stuff up.

yeah no kidding. haha. i can't even access half of the stuff on that phone. I wonder what caused it to go bad after 2 months or so of use with that ROM.
I have my Kaiser upgraded from Abusalza ROM v7 to v10.
It works like a charm and I'm loving it so far until now.
The battery is dead and when I plugged in either usb charger or power charger, the notification led lit up solid orange/amber like it supposed to and then it blinks.
I checked and later found my phone isn't charging at all. Is this related to bad battery or is it because of incompatible radio?
Oh, and when I tried to switch on the device it just hang. Perhaps it doesn't have enough juice to boot up.
Anyone got same problem with me? Please advice how to fix this.
Thanks.
If you have already cleaned the battery terminals, I would suppose it is new battery time.
Well, I was sort of having a problem similar to this running the same ROM series. For me though, the notification LED would blink, even if it wasn't plugged in and there were no notifications. I would also get it when plugged in at times. This was intermittent, since it would randomly happen for some unknown reason. To fix it, I just killed all running programs, and reset the phone once or twice and it went away.
For you, if the ROM worked fine before, but isn't working now, a bad radio would not cause your problem. An incompatible radio would have caused you boot up problems and such from the moment you flashed, not later on. Don't know exactly what to tell you, except try a new battery. Get back to us after, and if it doesn't work, we can figure something else out. Hope your problem gets resolved by the battery.

Keep in mind that my phone is currently out of juice i.e. dead.
So, supposedly by plugging in the charger I can restore the battery but in this case that didn't happen.
I guess I would better off go to the shop where I bought the battery and ask a replacement. The battery was new and not even 1 months old.
I will keep you posted. Thanks for the advice guys.
Does the LED light up still, even with the battery dead? If so, wait about 20 min for it to recharge, even though I am assuming you have already done this. If it is completely drained, it most likely won't power back until it has enough power to do so on it's own, even with the charger connected.

At first it blinking and then I pulled out the battery and reinsert it into the phone. Now it lit amber light and then in few minutes turned green. Tried to switch it on and the screen loading fine until at one time it show loading icon and then shutdown.
You assumed it right though, I've been letting the phone connected to the charger since last night and still no juice pumped into the battery I presume as I can't turn it on.
I agree with WillardZ

There's a technical term for items which fail very early on called infant mortality - this may be whats happened. See how it goes with a battery swapped in the shop. If you can get it to work by putting in a fully charged, known good battery but the recharging function doesn't work (or you get a flashing red light after a few minutes again), also try cleaning the spring terminals with IPA or contact cleaner applied using cotton buds. If that still doesn't work but you can boot the device into windows (with the shop borrowed battery), perform a hard reset before the battery goes flat/below 50 % and test again.
okay, I found my other battery which is I know work fine and put it in the device.
I charge it to full and now turning the device on.

I can but it'll encourage others to ask without searching first and given there's already a wiki here that covers Kaiser Resets perfectly well (and the Kaiser users manual that comes with the device - let me guess, you don't have that), you'll need to read the wiki and help yourself.

duuuuudddeee....the page you linked to above describes a way to do a HARD RESET for your EXACT requirement...read it again.
also, if it is OFF to begin with, then powering it up (even if it hangs ultimately) is equivalent to a SOFT RESET. if it doesn't complete startup and always hangs, then a HARD RESET is the way to go.

and if by "reset it", you mean "flash a new ROM", you can search for that also and you'll find plenty of guides and tutorials and FAQs...but go one step at a time and do a hard reset first (remember, you will lose all data and non-default programs after the hard reset).

You've found the right section but just the hard reset section will be applicable. You don't need the bootscreen (which is what that button combination is all about), just a hard reset (making sure the battery has a decent charge of at least 50% before starting).
Thank you for all the help.
I've managed to reset my phone back to OEM and then flash 3.34 hardspl and radio and abusalza v10. Looks like it back functioning.
Will monitor it to see what could be wrong in these few days.
Hey all,
I posted a while ago about my phone having died and only having red flashing lights...I managed to solve that- thanks for you help, but now have a completely different problem.
Since then about a week has passed and approximately every 36 hours the phone seems to crash. When I take out the battery and turn it on again it invariably hangs at the Ericsson logo screen. When I then leave it off for a period of time (between 2 and 12 hours) I either find it starts to work again, or that I'll have the red flashing lights and have to leave it for longer.
When it does start working, it always seem to have been hard reset and I have to go through the set up again.
It's possible heating the battery speeds up how long it takes to start working again (although I've tried it with 2 batteries so I'm not sure why that would work) - and I'm not sure if that is actually the case yet or not anyway.
- It's very frustrating to lose all of my contacts daily, but I don't want to give up on £250 worth of kit... any ideas?
Thanks so much

Heh, don't know.
Maybe some other rom's installation messed up something....
hmm... I faced the same problem...
So.. I did have to send it for repair :S ....
maybe i have the same problem... many roms tried, many soft and hard-reset, but the lifetime cycle of the phone before to re-flash the device is at maximum 1-2 days... now i'm trying the tips about quickgps (maybe could be correlated) on the thread in this forum... but the most probably truth i think that could be an internal memory rom damage... if anyone find a soluzion about this problem via software i'm here...
I seem to be having the same problem.
A week ago i tested the latest roms with winmo 6.5.1, after several roms i settled with a rom with build 23081, enabled htc sense, played around abit and went to bed and put the phone to charge. when i woke and touched the screen, the phone immediately froze.
After removing battery it froze again in SE boot screen and after second removal of battery the phone hard reseted it self.
The phone has been freezing and flashing itself ever sense, sometimes the uptime is minutes sometimes over day.
Currently the phone has survived 3 days without a spontaneous flash, the only difference is that i didn't bother to enable htc sense last time it flashed. So i enabled htc sense once again and will see if the phone survives a day.

Sadly mine has reached the stage where it's no longer working for 'a day' before crashing... it's just pretty much dead.
Now I can bring up the tricolour screen if I'm plugged in, the ROM then begins to flash off the memory card, but crashes half way through every time.
I have tried this with 2 batteries, one of which (which I have used once and was working fine but only lasted 2 days before breaking) now does nothing whatsoever. The other lets me get half way through the flash every time.
- I can't send it back on the warranty until I reflash it myself (and I don't have a receipt anyway) so I'm going to go find a high street mobile fixing place and see if they can help.
hardresetting then flashing a stock rom (R3A generic) then hardresetting again then installing custom rom and hardresetting, definately fixed my phone, has been working for more than 2 days now it usually stops in less than 1 day.
FYI - high street phone guys managed to reflash the device for £15....it lasted 4 days but has just died again.

Hello eveyone.
I'm having one of the strangest problems I've encountered with a phone before and I just can't seem to track down the problem. Please read this thread with an open mind as from what I can tell this is a unique issue that sounds like normal issues.
The main problem is that the phone keeps rebooting. From the get go this sounds like a normal issue with either the battery or power switch but here is the weird part...
It only happens when the phone is fully charged!
IBackground
I have had the phone since release and I have only ever used the stock rom that came with the phone. I don't really use phones much n general except for using it for calls texts and BBC news. I didn't even have a SD Card in it until after the problem started. Everything was running great, I never had any battery problems at all, and then a couple of weeks ago my phone contract expired with Orange and I decided that I would get a SIM only plan with EE.
While waiting for the SIM card to arrive in the post I charged my phone up one day and noticed that I had to power on the device. The phone seemed to power on fine, I could use all features of the phone, but when I turned the screen off for more then 5 or 6 seconds the phone would restart. There would give no indication that it had turned off or that it had powered off in anyway. It would simply just be blank, I'd press the power switch, and it would vibrate once and begin its start up procedure as if it had been turned off completely.
Here is where it gets weird, the phone will keep cycling on its own like this until the battery drains itself through constant reboots until about 85% juice, at which point it begins to operate functionally.
I heard that some people say they had problems with the power switch. I figured that if it was the power switch it then the problem would be consistant and would continue giving me problems when the battery was below 85%. I think I can rule out the power switch as faulty. Naturally I came to the conclusion it must be software, perhaps an APP installed which was incompatible. I tried all sorts of things, regardless I came to the conclusion it needed to be factory reset. Factory reset didn't do anything, still does it. My next thought was Firmware, it must be the firmware that was corrupt. I went through tutorials and rooted my phone, installed recovery software and ended up installing Cyanogenmod 11 (Which looks really beautiful btw, wish I had done that sooner) and buying an SD Card too do so. Still the problem persists! I read that some people had problems with swelling batteries, I replaced the battery completely just incase. £10 wasted, still does it.
At this point I'm starting to get confused. I started thinking perhaps it was the cable providing too much charge to the device, over charging somehow. Tried a different cable and a different power source. Still the poblem persists. I made sure there was no dirt in any of the connectors incase that was causing something. No joy.
So to summerize:
1. Factory Reset
2. Replaced Battery
3. Changed power leads
4. Cleaned device
5. Flashed to completely new firmware
I've completely run out of ideas on what it could be. Why would the phone operate absolutely fine under 85% power? Its just weird! I'd appreciate any help some one could provide me. I've not seen any one else with this problem on the internet. Please let me know what you guys think.
Thanks
Craig.

Sorry to hear about this man!
I am completely stumped on this one! You've basically done all the basic solutions but to no avail. I had a problem similar to this where my device would reboot randomly, whenever it wanted to and in my case, the solution was to buy a new battery and that actually worked. I've had the battery for almost 2/3 months now and it's still going strong.
Back to your problem, I honestly don't know of a solution. I really wish I could be of help but as I said, you've already tried the basic solutions.
Again, sorry to not be of much help!

I think I have the same problem as you did. After suddenly dropping and rebooting, my battery level jumps back up when the phone starts, and again, and again. The phone is functioning normally only when plugged in. I also presume that it is a battery problem, but the fact that the battery level rises back after dropping, makes me wonder.
EDIT: Problem solved with buying a new battery.
Sorry to jump in, just curious, did you solved this? If you do, hope to hear your solution, might help others in future
