Backlight/Screen won't stay off, turns back on after only moments! - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

I've had this tilt for a couple of days now and this new screen problem only started happening today. My screen/backlight turn back on moments after being turned off, either by the power button on the side or after the short timeout.
I've searched through the forums to no avail. My bluetooth and WiFi are already turned off and I do not have any programs running in the background.
The problem only appeared today and the only program I've installed today is Xpress Mail. Could Xpress Mail be causing this problem?
Any suggestions anyone has would be greatly appreciated. This little glitch is getting on my nerves pretty bad.

This sounds like the opposite issue of the known backlight error.
You can try this to see if it might happen to also solve your issue.
http://www.htc.com/us/supportdownloadlist.aspx?p_id=67&cat=all

I just gave that a try but it didn't work. I'm still having the same problems as before.
I also uninstalled Xpress Mail but that didn't work either.
Any other suggestions??

The only other thing i could recommend is a hard reset. Have you tried that yet ? ( It will restore the phone back to factory )
To do this you will need to hold the stylus in while pressing these buttons ( Red dots ) :
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}

Maybe I'll tackle that tomorrow. I've been adding and customizing things obsessively for a few days, wiping the slate clean might take some getting used to.
Thanks for your input!

Anytime! Thats what we are here for I just wish I have a better answer for you. Something somewhere seems to have changed a registry setting it seems. Easiest way to fix is to reset
On the plus side, it gives you the opportunity to install a custom rom that is much faster and has no bloatware ( If you feel brave enough to try ). Flashing sounds much more scary than it really is. There is almost no way to mess up the phone
One more thing. Even if you dont flash a new OS, you can still get rid of the bloatware ( Factory branding with all the apps you will never use ). Just after it hard resets just as the screen changes to " Customizing in 3 seconds", just poke your stylus in the hole and reboot it. It might take you a few times because I hear there is a split second but trust me it will make things better not being there!
Goodluck!

Check my 2 posts in the thread on page 1 and page 2. Sounds like you have a problem with a stuck camera button
Frank

The button for my camera seems pretty regular. My phone stays off longer than yours in that video, fordmav. Also, on my phone when the phone is off and I push the camera button it does not wake up.
Its looking like a hard reset is in my future.

I had this problem after upgrading to 6.1. It came down to a tweak or set of tweaks that I had applied, but I don't recall what they were. I've caused it using tweaks programs, applying multiple tweaks that caused no issue before. Going back in & undoing the tweaks got rid of the issue. So did a hard reset before I figured it out.
If you do hard reset, make backups periodically as you're installing stuff/tweaking successfully. That way, you can go back to a good point if necessary.

well I don't know what I did but the screen and backlight are remaining off, at least so far today. hopefully that's the end of the story...

BIG Problem with Xperia

hello
I have got a problem with my xperia, the top bar shows that my stereo headset is connected but is not...therefore, i cant hear anyone who is trying to call me or i call anyone.. i have been in a vodafone store and they could not find a solution, i also have done hard reset and is still the same... now im about to flash new rom. would that be a solution or any of you got different?
please help me, thanks in advance
try connecting headset again but give it a wiggle about, not too much also try pulling it out and puting it back in quickly several times in a row. be carefull.
i tried that already, not working
after a hard reset i can only assume it's a hardware fault, so i would go get it fixed because if you flash a new rom that will invalidate your waranty.
do that in the FMradio application
thank you guys, i also think that i should return it for vodafone service..
i tried in fmradio and still no working
sorry to hear that. good luck with that
last time that annoying thing happened to me i had to go to the htc HD fm radio app and plug and unplug the offical 3.5 connector to make it work( try plugging->listen to radio->set output to speakers-> then unplug)
a bunch of questions:
-what rom are you using
-did you try different 3.5 connectors
-is the earphone that caused the problem low quality?
the last time this happened to me i used the stylus and just waggled about for ages and ages and eventually the sensor registered that the headphones weren't plugged in.
do a search as plenty of people have had the exact same problem ...
good luck !
yes - just waggle the stylus around in it until it goes - worked for me
thank you..the thing with stylus works, hopefully but its still anoying to do that every time i put my headset
i have got an original vodafone uk rom
yes, i have tried many different headsets
the quality is fine
I have the exact same problem on my 4 month old X1, and now i dont rly know how hard i should wiggle with the stylus...

try waggling and then try inserting the headphones a few times and taking them out too
I've had the same prob for a week now.
After reading up on other HTC phones with the same issue I've found that what went wrong was a little hardware switch inside the jack failed to reset to its off position when the headphones where removed.
To locate the switch:
Turn the phone onto back so that the screen is facing upwards. The switch is at the 4-5 o'clock position if you look directly at the headphone jack, at around 1cm in.

I inserted a small pin which was bent a little at the end to relative position I have described and after I felt it snag just gave it a small wiggle. When doing this I noticed the headphone icon would disappear for a second and return.
This is how I knew I was in the correct position. Then I gave it a good twist.
(I think anti clockwise, but you will know from which direction worked when you wiggled)
The headphone icon disappeared for good and now I'm back to normal phone use!
(Do this at your own risk! But its more precise than sticking the stylus in blind)

DO NOT RETURN IT. This happened to me once, and ONLY once after using the phone for like 6 months. I soft reset and nothing happened.
There is something wrong with the way the device toggled the connection. Just replug and unplug and press play and pause on your video/music player. It should purge sooner or later.
You can also hard reset your device you will find that the problem will most likely purge.
@Charcobeans: Thanks, it worked within 5 seconds Thats just the instructions I searched for. Waggling around did not work, but more precise it was easy. Thanks!

EMERGENCY! reset completely resets phone! erases contacts etc!

WTF?! starting yesterday, every time my phone resets it completely restores my phone as if it's the first boot everytime! It's happened with 2 different roms. I'm eligable for an upgrade but I'm trying to hold out for the touchpro2 for att to come out... please advise!
WTF?!? starting today, i can no longer use my mind reading skillz!!!
plz post more information, ESPECIALLY when starting a NEW thread, ESPECIALLY when this is a common problem with quite a few new WM6.5 ROMs and ESPECIALLY because there is a known workaround listed in the FAQs of the affected ROMs. have you read those FAQs? have you read the threads for the ROMs?
Yes I have oh mighty computer nerd that sits at a keyboard and spits out insults so he feels better about himself! Turns out I have to get into a bootloader and run some program except that I also can't get into bootloader by holding down camera and power buttons.. another problem I've searched but found no answer to. Also after checking the kaiser FAQ and the FAQ for the rom I'm using I couldn't find the answer to this problem.. would love to try :
Procedure:
1. bring the device to bootloader.
2. Launch ActiveSync on PC
3. Go to connection settings
4. Uncheck the Allow USB Connection
5. Now, run mtty1_1_.42_538 on PC.
6. CMD>task 29
7. Flash the ROM of your choice.
And, Voila!!! the device is back to stable condition. (I hope)
As my device is running now on my own cooked ROM for the past few hours and no prob at all......
but like I said I can't get into bootloader. If anyone else has any ideas or can link me to a solution, I would love nothing more than to be proven an idiot and get my phone up and running.

Why in the heck would anyone come HERE with a Heart Attack Emergency...first they would have to do a search and read 75 pages of information about heart attacks, then, after having attempted 1934 different variations of CPR, the poor f***er is dead!!! Heck, all we had to tell him was "You can't do CPR on a duck."

Screen dies when closed - help requested

I have an HTC Dream/G1 that's having a rather odd issue. When the screen is flipped open, it appears to behave exactly as it should. When the screen is closed however, the display becomes a mess of vertical lines (or sometimes just fades to black) and does not respond.
One need only "sleep" the phone and "wake" it after flipping the screen up to bring it back to normal operation. This only lasts until the phone is again closed. I've included a couple of screen captures to help illustrate the issue. I've searched and searched and found absolutely nothing about this problem anywhere.
I'm currently running Firmware 1.6, CyanogenMod-4.2.7.1 with Cyanogen recovery. Everything was working fine and the phone suffered no trauma prior to this issue presenting itself. It literally happened while the phone was sitting idle on a coffee table. I've tried reflashing the phone (including reverting to Dreaimg.nbh and starting "from scratch") to no avail.
It does not appear to be an issue with the ribbon cable (no amount of flexing the cable or moving the screen has any effect). The display behaves properly throughout its movement up until the exact point at which it switches to "closed" functionality (approximately 80% closed). It appears to be something related to the hardware after it switches to "closed mode". My shot-in-the-dark guess is some form of chip-failure related to the phone's orientation detection as the vertical lines do not change regardless of orientation or touch-input. Again, that is just a guess.
If no one here has any recommendations, I will likely perform exploratory surgery and barring any obvious hardware failures, will likely be forced to replace the phone. If I do manage to resolve the issue (with or without outside help) I will surely assemble a how-to so others may resolve the issue in the future.
Thank you everyone for your help and suggestions, and for existing in the first place. You are the reason technology is fun.
EDIT - As pjcforpres kindly pointed out, I neglected to include the fact that the display failure is present regardless of boot state. It behaves this way upon initial "G1 screen" boot and even in the recovery console. This is appears to be further support for the idea that it is indeed a hardware failure.

Does it do this while in recovery/boot loader as well? Is there anyway when closed to get it to work correctly?(I think your answer will be 'no' but just double checking)...
Oh wow, I can't believe I forgot to include that important bit of information. Yes, the phone behaves this way regardless of boot-state. Even with the initial "G1" screen displayed or in recovery mode, closing the screen brings about the display failure. No amount or configuration of screen or button operation seems to bring about the appropriate closed screen behavior. I will edit my original post with this information if I can. Thanks for looking and responding!
I didn't read your post
But my dads g1 did this.
It's a hardware ribbon, not software.
Go get a return or exchange for a new g1 because yours is defective.
That makes me think hardware then... not sure what though? Like you were saying, if there is an open/close switch of sorts that would be my bet. It could be the flex cable as well, and when it close that much it gets pinched, and happens to coincide with the orientation flip. But then it wouldn't take sleep and unsleep to go back right when opened, I would think... so we are back to it probably being the orientation sensor switch being funky like a monkey.
Well, I just tore it completely apart and put it back together to no avail. I made the assumption that the LCD flex cable was not the cause because of the behavior (only happening at a precise position, having to sleep then wake the phone to recover, etc...). It appears, however, that this assumption was incorrect. On Icebergxx's suggestion I decided to give it another look. I wedged a tool in against the cable and with various forceful flexing I can recreate the issue even with the screen fully extended. Luckily it appears the LCD flex cable is available on ebay for $24. Thank you so much for your responses. I'll dig around for a flex cable replacement guide, if a sufficient one does not yet exist, I will take the opportunity to share. Thanks again!
You're so handy its admirable haha good luck buddy glad to have helped.
Happy to hear it is just the flex cable! I was worried with the way it was acting it was something worse, just the whole not coming back to life when opened without sleeping then un-sleeping.

Trouble answering calls. ???

SOLVED / Well the quirky behaviour happens when you try to swipe in the proper direction and the dang button doesn't move or react to your touch.
You have to attempt swiping several times before it reacts and the call is answered.
Any other touch screen action(s) work properly , no overheating, no unusual battery drain. No screen protector. No physical or aquatic damage to phone.
It's really annoying, on my S6edge you just tap at the button and it answers the call, on this note4 you have to swipe like a caveman to answer! This is wifey's phone, she doesn't "phoneguzzle" she works and phone just sits around most of the time.
Phone is stock, no rooting or attempts at rooting. No tampering, no weird apps , just basic Facebook, pintrest and a couple of games.
Pp. Any input will be appreciated and thanked.
Ok ,am I taking crazy pills?
Maybe it's crazy radiation from the phone?

Tried reboots, battery clean, sd/sim card blow.
Still no profit.

I got that same bug on my note 3, have you tried a factory reset? That fixed it for me...
Factory reset is the only thing I haven't tried, guess I'll have to do a b/u and give it a try. I'll use smartswitch to b/u and reset.

May have to try the factory reset.

In the same Accessibility settings, go to Answering and Ending calls and there is a setting to press the Home key to answer calls. Might be easier that a factory reset.

After unchecking option for one touch answer and rechecking it started working properly? ???
But it appears to be working without reset.

Touch Screen issue after May Update!

Hey guys,
I am back to the real OG forums of Android after spending a few good years with iOS devices. Ngl, missed this place a lot!
So I have been using a Pixel 4a (5G) for 2-3 weeks now, and everything was perfect until the May security update 2 days ago. Although, previously, there were a couple of touch screen issues observed by many anyway, a friend too who uses the same phone, same variant g025-e and we used to observe extremely **** typing experience while charging our phones, until this update, literally destroyed the whole experience for me specifically, and not my friend.
This update was about 16.9 mb and on the night of 1st of May, I put my phone to update and slept, within hours it was released. The next morning my frustration begins. There is a part of my screen, specifically between the app dock and home screen separator that doesn't work anymore. There is absolutely no damage to the phone, neither have I dropped it or anything. The whole "asd" row on my qwerty keyboard barely works. Tapping the letters on that row a million times might register a touch magically, but you get my point, its just extremely frustrating.
Furious, I immediately took it to Pixel Community (Pixel Community Post here) and I haven't received a reply there yet. I took it to Reddit (Reddit post here), and there isn't any help either.
I have run a couple of tests on my phone testing my screen, and to my surprise multi-touch isn't working either (I can't zoom into photos, can't use maps or anything for that matter) and my phone only detects one finger. Attaching screenshots below where you can see touch break (there is no point of posting multi-touch test here, it can only show its detecting 1 finger, and that also breaks in the area shown below):

As last resort, I have also tried removing my screen protector, playing with the screen-protector mode in the display settings but in vain.
Now I am thinking something definitely went wrong while my phone installed the update, and thinking of a full fresh flash of the Software after unlocking the bootloader. Please suggest what to do. Hoping for positive replies. I am not doubting the hardware because my phone just stopped working right after the update, even though the new update suited my friend's phone just fine.

Oh damn I'm sorry its that much for you mate. Did it happen after the update or just randomly?
the day I updated the phone, the touch screen started to not answer again on the top and then the problem is repeated gradually on the rest of the screen. I just made a factory rest, the touch screen no longer works, I will change the screen .
