I got a Diamond about a month ago, and i have been a very long customer of HTC, since the days of xda 2s/Blue angel to xda orbit2/Polaris.
now i have the Diamond, im really wondering if i should have bothered getting the iphone 3g.
it seems to be the slowest device i have ever had.... and it is due to the touchflo3d app. which i will be honest, i love it. its great and works well, even when skinned. but after a soft reset, just after flo3d boots up, i am using 60% of the memory, is this normal? if this is, then this is unacceptable for a device that does not have enough memory to run.
if i unload flo3d, i can get it down to about 50%, which is better, but with a boring homescreen.
so, this now means that windows uses half of the system memory just to run, 60% with flo3d and if i run wifi and Opera or youtube together, about 80% of the time i get "the device is low on memory" message.
My question is , is this normal? and is there anything i can do to make my situation better? i am currently running the Syrius WWE 1.00.25.03 rom....
cheers and sorry bout the rant...
I personally don't like TF3D, I think it's badly flawed and half-finished. I'm running Panosha's ultra-lite Shimple 1.1 ROM without TF3D, using a bunch of SPB today plugins and my free memory is 72MB after a soft reset.
Having said that, there are ways to keep TF3D and improve the memory situation. Disabling the HTC dialer and volume control can gain you as much as 12MB for example.
Some ROMs save more memory than others, I haven't tried that many of them but HallengreeN's is meant to be quite good in this respect. He has a new one coming out this weekend apparently.

Memory issues?
I'm using HTC standard 1.93 ROM. Never had any 'Out of memory' messages. Never had any slow device issues. I use MemMaid to clean up my device once a day and make sure applications close, not minimise using HTC Task Manager.
I certainly don't agree that TF3D is badly flawed and half finished... but we're all entitled to our own opinions
Just to clarify my previous post, I've never had any "the device is low on memory" messages so that part isn't normal. I'd definitely recommend a new ROM or at least a hard reset.
Your memory figures do sound fairly normal though, TF3D is a memory hog and I used to get bad delays with it. This would have been with one of Dutty's 1.93 ROMs back in August/September.
Reflash and lose the dialer and things should improve!

Could you give more details on how to go about on that? Where and how can I disable the volume control and dialer?

The easiest way to disable the dialer is to use either Schaps Advanced Configuration Tool or Diamond Tweak. Diamond Tweak also has a setting for disabling the HTC Volume Control but it doesn't work on newer ROMs so the only working method is by cab file.

I am so annoyed at my Herald these days. Everything is always so slow (even with overclocking) and I am always running out of space. Perhaps I run too much on it, but I was wondering, what is the fastest and lightest (most usable space and memory) ROM out there for the Herald. I would not even mind going back to WM5, but in my experience WM6 has been faster anyways.
I have used many ROMs but settled for PDAVIET 4.17.07.12 as it seems to be the least buggy and fast, but not as fast as some of the first iterations of the WM6 ROMS.
Just clicking on stuff and waiting all the time really is annoying me to death these days.
Try the Touch_It V2.3 rom.
It's really fast but still a beta; the rom is great except for the keyboard. IT'je promised to have it cleared on very short notice.
What happenes with the keyboard? If just a few symbols are mismatched, I could deal with that.
Anyhow, why don't we collect a list of the roms here and rate them on speed and lightness?

The xt9 won't shut off when using the hardware keyboard. Some keys work OK, some keys don't. Whenever I try to type an 'a' or an 'l' this annoying 'add word' pops up. It really gets on your nerves when typing text messages.
I have been fiddling with it on the train yesterday because it was frustrating me so much. I have edited the registry, which at least got rid of the 'add word' question. I searched for 'xt9' and started editing values from 1 to 0
Try editing values in
HKLM\Software\OEM\MASxt9 (change from 1 to 0 to turn stuff off)
Afterwards I also completely renamed the following entry:
HKLM\Software\Tegic (I renamed it to Tegicx)
And that seems to have got rid of the xt9 completely. Unfortunately the touch-it keyboard won't function anymore at all after doing this. But at least I can use my hardware keyboard again on this otherwise fine ROM

is it this rom you mean?
I am no authority as a matter of fact I just got my phone a little over a week ago. I was looking for the "fastest". Tried them all in relatively short period of time and figured out for myself that if you want something specific learn to make it yourself. Tons of great tutorials here using the search. Personally I took the RUU and followed ITJE's tutorial and removed all the software I concsidered bloat. Then applied the pagefile manipulation. Finally got all the apps and games I like and I am rather happy. Currently I am considering removing Windows Media Player and just using TCPMP only. But again it is all about personal preference. No one elses ROM will make you happy like your own. ITJE's tutorial is solid and if you go step by step you will make a great final product.
PS. If you want to try mine pm I can give you a link. I didn't do much special just removed some built in apps and set my pagefile.

Too it is interesting to me, is still ROMs with such high efficiency?
Hi everybody, I recently got a Diamond2 and found that the enormous amount of expertise and help available at xda-developers have really helped me enjoy this phone. The phone is not locally supported by any carriers or retailers in Canada so the availability of these forums have been a real help. I've run through most of the issues I've had with the phone (really like the Pro2 Interface better but was way to bulky) but have a few remaining that I haven't been able to find satisfactory answers for, hope you guys will be able to help.
I've downloaded and played around with what seem to be most of the prerequisite softwares: Advanced Config Tool, Klaxon, Changescreen etc. and have also made a couple of registry modifications to enable TF3D rotation and things like that. Here is where I'm getting into a bit of trouble. Although changescreen is a great app I just don't like to install a lot of things on my device and decided to try the regedit. After a soft reset it seemed to work great but was quite slow in switching over to landscape and back. At first I though this was a problem with the g-sensor so I opened up Opera to try it out and found that it was much faster. Obviously it's a lot less graphically intense but I was playing around with a Touch Pro2 before I bought the Diamond2 and it is also significantly faster, with the same processor and everything. I've tried to reduce the sampling time for the g-sensor down from 200ms to 100ms in ACT but that didn't really seem to help. Also I get some really weird lines across the tops of TF3D pages in landscape; in the All Contacts page for example the bar that contains "Search Contacts" will have at least three sets of distorted lines across it at regular intervals across the page. The wallpaper also seems to malfunction as instead of staying as it was, it will stretch across the width of the screen and as a result become extremely distorted. The dialer doesn't go into landscape but that seems to be a common issue. I've downloaded the Rhodium Phone Dialer although I haven't had a chance to install it yet, maybe that will fix the dialer issue.
I do have some app installed that changes the background of all tabs to be the same and this seems to have messed with the transparency of the tab bar and, occasionally the phone will fail to respond to screen swipes that would usually cycle through the tabs without using the tab bar. Maybe this app is also causing the other problems.
The help on these forums has already been a great asset and I was just hoping that I would be able to get some simple fixes for the issues with the landscape thing without having to install more software. Thanks in advance for any help, its all appreciated. Cheers.
PS, rom is 1.39.421.0 (47382) WWE
what you can do to improve things:
1. ditch stock rom and use tess rom
2. install flipit for rotation software - its better than the rest IMO
Thanks for the quick reply
Thanks for the quick reply, sorry I wasn't able to reply right away, got a bit busy at uni.
I was a bit apprehensive about installing a new rom but the one you recommended is amazing. The speed increase alone is unbelievable, doesn't even feel like the same device.
Everything is working great and the rotation is really fast now on everything except TF3D. It almost looks like it attempts to rotate and then fails. The title bars rotate around and then rotate back. I've added the regedit, manually removed and added it back into flip_it, but nothing seems to be working. Aside from that everything else seems perfect. Hope you'll be able to help, and once again, thanks.
oh yeah.. forgot to mention about manila in landscape
go to search and look for At0mAng & Danny_and_2 TF3D2 Tweak cab for topaz
install, and in the list of programs, there is option called Manila Rotate ON.
and thats it, you are all set...
hope this helps

Can I ask where to read and get this rom?
I am also new to Topaz.
Running on stock ROM
been reading around. reading on the various rom threads to decide which to use.
I am looking for something stable, fast (aren't we all?) and 6.1. Still got Manila and hopefully with Titanium built in. Also if possible with ringtones removed.
What would you recommend?
Thanks

Almost there
Thanks for the tip about the tweak program, installed it and followed your directions, manila is now rotating. However, its still incredibly slow; in the range of 3-5 seconds for transition to landscape and then around 1-2 seconds back to portrait. Also, those distortive lines I described earlier are back.
I was hoping for the kind of speed seen here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MPVgN5QuzO4 but I do realize that its a different rom. I've disabled and enabled TF3D and also done a soft reset, but no speed increase. I was thinking it may be a hardware issue but everything else works fine. One thing I have noticed though is that since installing this rom some programs get stuck half rotated and the other half of the screen will display the TF3D home page. Once again, thanks for all the help so far.
P.S. If I disable TF3D the blank today screen will rotate at the same speed as in that video if not faster. Also before when the menus rotated but not TF3D they were rotating at the same fast speed.
yes, I know what you mean.. at this stage, manila rotates pretty slow for me too...
I guess at the moment, we have to live with it... the slow rotation only happens on tf3d2 rite? the rest is ok...
as with hardware issue, I am sure it is not, cause topaz is still relatively new...
btw, Manila 2.1 is around, and manila 2.5 is coming too... so, maybe they would give better performance .
btw, the youtube link is a rom made by Tom Condon, and as you probably know, he is very active in building rom for topaz too... why dont you give him a message, or try his rom...
Tha
sorry double post again..

Glad to know that it wasn't just a one off issue. I'll give his rom a shot, was kind of wary b/c of the comments that said WM 6.5 was slow. Would you be able to direct me to somewhere that I'd be able to download TF3D 2.1 alone without a rom upgrade or anything or maybe even cooked into the TESS rom. Thanks for the incredible quick reply and for all the help so far.

Hello! I have an X1a purchased in April 09, and currently has Windows Mobile 6.1
This phone, as pretty as it may look, gives me tons of grief daily.
1. It is slow, devastatingly slow. It freezes on pretty much anything.
2. WinMo 6.1 is confusing to me. I can't figure out how to save contacts to my storage card, or organize anything.
3. Opera always crashes on me and my internet connection goes out frequently.
4. Battery life is very short
5. It is now full of scratches (anyone use body guard or invisishield?)
and a lot more stuff
I bought this instead of an iPhone because the physical keyboard.
I would like to flash to winmo 6.5 w/ panels. Currently I am running it on AT&T in US.
I have no prior knowledge of anything technical regarding mobile phones, and so far I know that I need to get a Hard SPL to do anything.
How do I get Hard SPL on my phone?
Another question I have is regarding contacts. Currently I backed up all contacts to SIM and to phone, and in my contacts list, for every person, the contact is duplicated so I see the same name twice. I would like to backup my contacts to my SD card, but see only one line item per contact. What can I do here.
I am a newbie. trying to maneuver through this phone. Any and all input would be extremely valued and lessen the gray hairs on my head!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=431218
Has the information you need for HardSPL
It is a must to go.
Once you upgraded to 6.5, x1 will perform like another phone. 6.5 is faster, however, depends which ROM you're using. Currently there are many ROM here are worth to try. For fastest/clean ROM, can try Jack's Lite or unoff V10.
However, these version are very lite without many applications but just fast. So you have to re-install softwares by yourself.
But some peoples would like ready to use ROM. Mean necessary applications already installed. In this case, Christian ROM is recommended.
Actually I tried almost all of them. For less bug one, I prefer clean/lite ROM.
Do all of the 6.5 ROMs that are here come with Panels? I know it may sound silly but I am pretty much hooked on the Sbp panel and don't use any other interface so I would like to get it back if I go to 6.5.

Some ROMs do include panels, but many of them don´t - it seems that quite a big portion of users are, just like me, very fond of Manila, the HTC I/F.
If you do prefer SPB anyway, did you think about flashing a "pure" ROM, as mentioned above, and to install the shell not as a panel, but as "home" screen? Saves memory and should be quite fast then! Or, maybe one day you will want to try another I/F, such as PointUI, who knows?
Nothing here.
Nothing here.
Nothing here.
Nothing here.
Nothing here.
Oh man.. you beat me. Will try a little later. Gotta make a backup 1st.
I have less work then you ;D As my ROM is nearly finished.
You think its possible to get the 6.5 Smooth Scrolling into 6.1? Thats what my main goal is at this point.
I think that the Touch FLO does the job well. Doesn't it?
Finally I finished this ROM. Download in #1 post.
Any feedback?
just a bit surprised that any one wants to use winmo 6.1.
For me its like using win 3.x instead of win7- just my point of view ;p
any way congrats on this one.
I'll probably flash this on to my phone tonight. I'm using the AT&T Tilt 2, and the problem I had with the stock ROM was that Touch Flo 3D was sluggish and music on both the HTC Audio Manager and MicroFi Nitrogen would skip and generally become unplayable if the phone reception was interrupted (on a subway, for example).
I flashed my phone to the Deep Shining ROM last night, which is cool, but still kinda slow, plus, PocketScrobbler keeps giving me a time server mismatch error which prevents me from recording my plays onto last.fm, which is really important for me. Finally, the DeepShining ROM uses a different physical keyboard layout than the one of the AT&T phones, so some of the keys don't work correctly (@ key becomes 1, for example). I never had the audio problems or last.fm problems on my LG Incite phone (running 6.1 and later, a cooked 6.5 ROM), so I'd like to give this a try.
What functionality will I lose with 6.1? Will Microsoft MyPhone and the Winmo app store still work? How about touchscreen responsiveness? That's really all I care about. Most other third party apps I use are 6.1 compatible.

You can download MyPhone app cab from http://www.microsoft.com/myphone. Works on WM6.1.
The app store is to download somewhere in microsoft site too, dunno where as I personally don't use it.
I'l flash this weekend and hopefully give you feedback. Hopefullt the speed will be better in fpsce wihout all the 6.5 eyecandy.
Remember to turn off the GfxBoost before running this emulator. It may slow it down.
Aha, I messed something up with the drivers while fixing my remote control problem, so i'll upload a fixed version (this one is a bit unstable, my fault) xD

Hello,
I do use WM6.1. becouse the WM6.5 is too heavy on resources. Even if you turn the ResProxy on dynamic, and disable the push internet the memory usage is high. After some days of use the TP2 slows down and you can't run more then 2 programs or whatever. That's why I switched back. Ach, and this Honeycomb is driving me crazy X_x

I posted a MyPhone cab at the #1 post. Also uploaded a fixed version of the ROM.
This rom is great. Was a bit worried at first because I was getting no service, but then realised that it is set to airplane mode on start up. But everything is running smooth, and boy oh boy is it quick. No lag what so ever, except every now and then as soon as you have come out of an application and then use the slider, but even then, its only for a microsecond.
I thought I was going to miss W6.5, BUT, in all honesty, i think I have become so used to it, and its sluggish behaviour, that now using 6.1 again has no issues. I prefer the start menu to the honey comb, and my fingers and thumb are just the right size for the buttons, so I think I might actually leave it with 6.1. Very nice hybrid rom Jacko. Thank you for this. I am VERY pleased with it.
using it for just 1 hour now but have to say what a relief smooth fast and reliable thanks 6.1 rocks for the rodium
like in thread. I cooked WM6.5.3, build 28205 with Palm OEM. All works: sleep with red button, messaging etc. Without CHome etc (lockscreen too).
Known bug is not opening Start after tapping icon on the screen. You must open Start with hardbutton.

oh, really ? I fix this when I could.
Thanks for your efforts! The WM6.5 work for the Treo has slowed to a crawl. Nice to see there are a few of us that still like the Treo's form-factor.
Wow, I really like this ROM. I thought nav's was cool, this is even better! As with nav's ROM, I'll pitch in with some bug reporting.
-Palm's messaging app cannot be closed. It can't be exited, apparently, when I tap the close button on the bottom right it won't close the program. I used Wakutask to minimize it but that's the closest way to minimizing it on one tap (another way to minimize it it to open Start ->Show Today and it should go to the RAM.) Unfortunately, I am unable to use the Task Manager to close it as well. Only a Reboot will clear it away.
-Where is the "Keyguard" control panel applet? I want to turn off keyguard but cannot find the option.
Some other none-Palm related issues:
-When I install FileExplorer Ext, it freezes the phone randomly. Could be a probem with it, so I use Resco explorer for installing cabs :/
-HTC Task Manager doesn't work. Does anyone know which task managing progam is good for the new close button position?
-The aforementioned Waku Task works as designed, but as I mentioned earlier the close button no longer works at the top right (it would if you enable X-button skinning), but having active tasks still on the top bar is great
So, seeing how good this ROM is, minus the above issues, I'm wondering what should we call this ROM? Mietas edition?
Thanks again fo keeping the Treo alive!
more bugs
1.it did not let me to install new programs. I did an hard reset and then i succeed to install softwares.
2.i installed spb keyboard, and when i entered to menu in this software it freez and i needed to do a reset.
Oh this is issue is tottaly awesome. I didnt hope, that someone make new stable rom, with palm oem things. how much free ram is after installation? Want you fix the remaining bugs shortly? I didnt already install it, but i'm going to try it tomorrow.
Many thanks from treo user from czech.
I fix bugs as soon I get a Treo. Probably this week.
Thanks for reporting bugs so much
What about stability, RAM etc?
Finally had the chance to install it. Nice work!
1) I have to admit that I do miss the 'Zune' look of the earlier version's homescreen, but will gladly give it up for the stability and features of this ROM.
2) I had an issue trying to select a ringtone on the Phone Settings Screen. It looks like there is an extra dropdown menu covering up the one where you actually select the ringtone. Once you managed to select the proper dropdown, you could change the ringtone, it just took a little fiddling.
3) When I tried changing themes for the today screen, once switching off the AT&T screen, I couldn't get it back the way it was before the switch. Some of the menus, fonts, and graphics had changed (for example the lower menu bar on the home screen), and the only way I could find to restore it was a hard reset.
4) As others have said, clicking on the Windows logo on the home screen doesn't do anything. You have to use the Windows button on the keyboard.
5) I didn't have the issue reported by mangatron regarding the Messaging app. Mine seems to work fine.
6) The Phone button issue reported by libal is present for me too. It appears to be the menu box that popped up when pressing the phone button, only it goes blank, and as reported it does not go away by leaving that screen. Soft reset does clear it.
Any chance you could share your kitchen with us? This would allow us to make a few of these fixes and will allow us to port to other versions.
Also - When using any mail program it will not allow any reply to an email.
Hmm, Messaging app works fine now. Maybe I had to receive a few sms first, or I suspect my sim card wasn't playing nice with the ROM.
I also use AE Button Plus to map the OK button to actually close programs. That does wonders.
The old battery indicator that used to be in WM6 is half in the top bar. Well, I say half because I can see a part of the lightning icon (when you charge your phone), and a bit of the left shows up. Any way to clear that? Or a bug maybe...
I would like to note people using this ROM for the first time:
-It's always best to clear data after flashing ROM's. Hold Power button and press the Reset button underneath the MiniSD cover. That should clear the old installation setup you had previously, which should fix installation errors.
-The phone may seem sluggish at first setup, just wait for it to load what needs to load, and after you soft reset, everything should be smooth.
-For those that wonder about program compatibility, I tested a WM2003 era program (MADE Text Editor), and it simply overwrites the bottom bar with it's WM2003 style icon style bar. Works fine
As for stability, RAM, the phone operates a bit slower than WM6.1. SKTools benchmarks puts the graphics rendering nearly 100 points lower than WM6.1, and almost 200 points lower than nav's WM6.5 ROM. Maybe if we use his specialized ATI dll it might be faster? Because the CPU is also a bit slow, but only by 1 point, although RAM access time and Main Storage Read/Write is the same as WM6/6.1. I don't really want to tax the RAM, I tested Opera Mobile 10 Beta 2u and it operates the same way as on WM6/6.1. I don't want to test Beta 3 because that uses up twice the RAM than Beta 2u.
So far so good though, with a little bit of fixing this ROM can be a winner
Can this be used on Treo 700WX?
or is there WM6.5 ROM for Treo 700WX?

I can't readily compare to 6.1 because I haven't used it in a long time, but this ROM is definitely snappier than nav's 6.5 version. It loads faster, locks onto AT&T much faster, and web pages seem to load faster too. I'm just using it stock, I haven't added any additional software to it. I had nav's ROM on my Treo for several months, and would not go back from a performance perspective.
Having said that, I can confirm Z3rx's report of not being able to reply to emails. It just returns you to the Inbox when selecting reply either through the menu, or using the left action key. That's a big problem for me as I use e-mail quite a bit on my phone. Hope the OP doesn't disappear, as so many of the Treo 750 cookers seem to do after an initial release.
just wanted to say thanks! i also lost confidence in new wm6.5 roms for our old but good treo 750!
keep up the good work man!

Hmm, I can only imagine with nav's ATI driver this Mietas ROM would be a whole lot better, nav's was good basically for font rendering (pretty much every program launched) and Camera quality. The rest, was like you mentioned, it wasn't optimized in a lot of places, most notably for it's RAM management and I would suspect CHome/Titanium existing in his ROM further slowed it down.
Other than that, isn't signal clarity/reception dependant on the Radio Firmware version? Although I wouldn't be surprised because Nav's ROM does not pull both CAP_package and the Carrier database from EXT Rom like Mietas' ROM [probably] does (which would explain it being able to lock on faster, a similar experience I had with Tacoman's WM6.1 and the Chinese WM6.1, with Taco's pulling from EXT Rom while the CHS one didn't)
I would like to add that I currently am using the Database from what was most likely the final Official ENG ROM released by Palm, Vodafone Version 2.30 which according to my digging contains the most up to date Carrier Database (that's where all the world's wireless carrier information is kept). I could imagine if you had this you'd have even better results with your wireless carrier.

I'm on AT&T, and did not change the radio firmware when I flashed this ROM. On Nav's ROM I manually set up the AT&T config, but did not have to here. Could be the difference I suppose.

I agree that I hope the cook does not disappear, which is why I have asked for his cooked kitchen so I can make further improvements or port other version (23541)... however I have not heard anything back.
The email issue is a big problem as many times I can not even start a new email.
Please share your work so we can make a great rom!
Thank you, i was specting for something like this for about a year, anyone has some pictures of this new ROM working???
