I'm completely new to this and I have a bunch of questions, is someone on AIM to help me out?
For starters, I plug the phone in and it says "Charging", but eventually it stops. When it fully charges, does it stop working on AC Power? I don't get it.

I guess I don't get your question...
When you plug it in, it says charging, and then it charges to the max power on the battery and it stops charging. At no time is it running on AC power. It gets the power from the batteries. You can unplug the charger.
If you leave the charger plugged in, does it continually charge the battery? That's what I don't get.

No, it's all electronically controlled. It stops charging, and keeps it at 100% (if it dips, it charges). You won't burn your phone/battery out by keeping it in the charger for multiple days. Not sure about months or years, but normal usage should be fine.
99% it goes into trickle charge mode. It pulses a small current probably about 50mA to keep it from draining. You can keep it plugged it without worrying about the battery going low. Since its Lithium, it does not damage the battery.

i got zapped by the dreaded broken power button.
ive read up on a lot of soln from app/widget/rooting work around to solve the lock/unlocking. these work great.
but
my phone wont charge the battery any more.
this happened the same time the power button stopped.
the charge light is red not orange.
ive tried a plug in charger, car charger, usb, and my desk charger.
the desk charger saves my butt because i have two batteries and i can charge one while the other one is used by the phone.
so my question is:
is this simply a flex cable replacement fix?
ive read lots about the power button problem but i have not seen any accompanying issues with charging that im experiencing.
Sounds like two unrelated problems. If you fix/replace the power button you would probably only fix that and not the charging. You could check where the short is by backtracking from the plug with a multimeter.
Is the device visible with usb plugged in and doesn't charge? If that's the case you probably just have a short in one of the pins. But if not, that would need to be replaced.
hey EK,
thanks for response.
yes USB connectivity works great. and yes it wont charge while plugged in. When the battery lowers to a certain percent like 90% - i assume thats when the phone starts to charge it and when it begins this charge cycle, the battery light is red instead of orange.
ill give the multimeter a shot. i havent looked but wondering if there are any instructions out there for this check?
HH
The battery won't charge if it is plugged in between 90-100% as that can cause batteries to age quickly.

yup, knew that.
an update. both batteries do in fact charge. it just doesn't register as in charging mode for about 5 minutes - weird!
I can live with this. I'll just do a flex cable swap.
thanks
Ok basically I had my first battery drained completely (my phone was around 1 year ++).
I've been experiencing battery drains on my phone such that it is discharging faster than it chargers and I also realized that I'm unable to connect to the PC/ unable to mount SD card.
Knowing that my problem exists, I went on to a repair shop and they replaced my port for $S90 SGD. After replacing my port, I was happy that my phone can finally be connected to my PC without any problems..
Until one day, I realized my phone was discharging faster and soon it reaches 0% on my screen. I quickly plugged in the AC wall adapter and continuing using (by right it shouldn't go flat). To my surprise it went flat and I couldn't charge my battery at all, I was having the Orange LED light.
So I went to the repair shop again and they sort of bumped my battery up and charged my phone. Seeing that my battery discharges faster than it charges, they told me they my battery is damaged and so I went on to get a new battery...
New battery came, I plugged in, turned my phone on successfully without any problems. Battery was at 65%. I left it few hours to charge and WTF my battery turns to 19% and eventually flatten out again .
Now here's the thing.
My 1st battery, (Totally unable to charge, No blinking orange LED)
My 2nd battery, when I leave it for a few hours (I plugged it in and there's orange LED), and soon there's not even an orange LED light anymore.
I really do not know what the hell is wrong with my phone. I'm so disappointed. I just thought that it might not be my battery's problem because a brand new battery shouldn't have any problems..
Really need some advice noww :crying:
Gonna cry. Wth is wrong with my phone?!

You might have apps that are drawing too much current, a charger that's not supplying enough or is not recognized as ac charging.
Install current widget or something similar to see both how fast your battery is draining and how much current the charger is supplying.

My old Inc S did the same thing as what your describing, and the charger port was faulty. I had to wiggle the cord into the perfect position to get it to charge, and even then it only actually charged half the time. Got it replaced by bell.
When you plug your charger cord in, does it wiggle a lot to the left or right? As in more that it normally should?

The problem is I can't even turn on my phone at all to install any apps because my battery is completely drained. I just don't get it how come my phone drains the battery faster than it charges. Perhaps it's my charger not supplying enough power .
It's my second battery already and I'm now sure that it is not a battery problem.
Should I change an adapter (like maybe the iPhone adapter head) and use my usb cable to charge my phone. Will it provide more current

Well, I am not sure whether if it was charging port that was fault. It indeed charged when I tried my 2nd battery when it first came it had 65%. I went on to charge it and the percentage drops when it was charging (when the phone is off) . Perhaps it's not the apps that are draining all the current.
My phone is losing current... My 2nd battery is also completely drained off after sometime and I'm unable to on my phone. Irritating max.
My charging port just got replaced because I cannot mount my SD to the computer and I had it replaced and I was able to connect to the computer and LED indicates it charges.
What could be the other reasons that my phone is losing current? I'm not sure about hardware parts, but maybe perhaps it's the charging gland or whatever things inside the phone that is damaged?
Leave charger plugged in while light flashing. If the light goes off unplug and plug again. You might need to do a few times but the orange light should stay on eventually. Let it charge a while before switching back on. Good luck.
I think its common knowledge that the HTC One has a slow charging speed compared to other smartphones.
Thus, since i use my phone all day..on the move, leaving it to charge at a stationary spot is rather annoying, so therefore the only workaround is to charge it overnight and use it during the day. But the problem with this is that it'll be done charging far before the night is over, and stay plugged in, therefore my question is, (or rather two questions)
Does the phone automatically stop charging once it hits 100%? Or does it continue to keep the phone at 100%, reducing the battery life of the phone?
HTC should have included a faster charger. My One takes a few hours to fully charge and doesn't even really charge when I'm using it while charging.
As for your question, I don't have a actual answer but I imagine it maintains the 100% charge by constantly charging it.

A faster charger wouldn't make a difference as the amount of charge the phone can accept is determined by the phone itself. The phone requests X amount of power, and the charger provides it, as long as it is capable of outputting that X amount. A 2amp charger wouldn't charge the phone faster.
And yes the phone has an intelligent charging chip. It stops charging at 100%, and drip feeds the phone when it detects the battery level going down. On the HTC One X, they did it in a weird way.
The charger goes up to 100%, then lets the phone go down till 95% before starting to charge again. This confused a lot of people as they would unplug their phone at 100%, then 1 phone call/text message later it drops to 95%, showing the real battery level

This is exactly what i was looking for, thanks. So it does stop charging at 100%, allowing me to charge it overnight beyond the length of its charge cycle without reducing the battery life?
I understand that dropping down a bit and charging again is better than constantly keeping the battery at 100%, but isnt it technically...still bad for the battery in the long run?
Hello guys,
I do charge my phone nightly with the original charger & cable.
The charging process works correctly and rapidly but when the charge reaches 100%, it does not switch to trickle mode. The battery is then slowly depleting as if the cable was disconnected
If I unplug and plug the cable again, charging will resume and stop at 100% again.
Any ideas ?
Of course, I'm junior, so I can't attach a picture... Just fill in the blank with "."

The original charger and phone are communicating. The charger switches to a quick charge mode when the battery is < 70 %.
When 100% charged the charger switches to trickel mode.
Unplugging resets the charge-cycle. The charger starts a few seconds untill it knows that there nothing to charge.
My jaw dropped when I read this. Maybe it's strangely phrased, but to my eyes it's saying "Why is my phone not charging to 120%? How do I get it past 100%?"

I think it is poorly phrased. I think his problem is that the charger does not switch to 'trickle mode' after it hits 100%, and slowly drops overnight

Strangely phrased then. When 100% is reached, cable is virtually disconnected in the phone, no more charging process and battery is slowly depleting as if it was disconnected.
Umidigi A3 pro. My phone.
History: Worked fine, started shutting down at battery ~85% (also: "Battery Testing" app says "nearly dead"), decided to buy new battery.
While awaiting new battery, charger cable got yanked. Unsure if this is relevant. Charging still worked OK, phone still shut down ~85%.
New battery arrived. Supposedly the same ("Model: A3") Same markings, BUT no date of manufacture, physically slightly wider, still fits.
Fitted new battery. Does not charge when phone switched on (charging light blinks once, when connected, goes out, does not stay on). Charges normally when phone switched off!
Fitted old battery. Charges normally when phone on and when phone off.
What could the problem be?
I wondered whether the old battery could not take as large a charge rate as the new one, perhaps the new one charges when the phone is off because there's less current demand, BUT this seems far fetched.
Any ideas? Any pointers gratefully received!
Well, I ordered a replacement charging port board. Will see and say what that does, if anything, when it comes.
Question: are there more appropriate/busier forums for this sort of thing, here here or elsewhere?
This seems to be a dead forum. Anyway, for the sake of completeness:
New battery, new charging port board,
Charges when swithched off (charging light comes on).
Charges when switched on, but no charging light.
If charging cable unplugged then plugged back in, as in first post, charging light blinks and goes out. Charging continues.
I will see what happens when charging get to 100%, and also take it off charge, see whether it keeps working when charge gets low, then let the battery go flat, then recharge.

Yes, it works as above. Something rather screwy here. The settings -> battery indicator right now says "charging", the detailed info. says "not charging". I think I will have to live with that, it's not that important.

Thank you. Unfortunately I am reluctant to install that, since my device says extra permissions are required, and that it is an old application which might not work. How true that is I don't know.

That's very strange. I'd be interested to know what these "extra permissions" are.
In my AndroidManifest.xml there is not a single permission listed. You can easily verify this.
And I'm not dynamically requesting any either.
Yes, it has a very low minimum SDK specified. That's so that it can run on very old devices.
Well, after trying again, I get "Blocked by Play Protect", and "application did not install" (really helpful message!). Then after another try it did. Poxy computers.
Anyway. Similar findings.
Disconnected: Power=battery, Status=discharging.
Connected: Power=AC, Status=discharging.
After leaving unplugged for battery to reach 78%m reconnecting still shows:
Disconnected: Power=battery, Status=discharging.
Connected: Power=AC, Status=discharging; HOWEVER battery voltage is shown to be increasing, % is also increasing, until 100%.
Again, no charging light seen, although when unplugged then plugged back in the charging light lights very briefly, then goes out as charging contiunues.
Bizarre.
