wmwifirouter help - Touch Pro, Fuze Themes and Apps

Hey so I installed this software and am trying to get tethering running before I get on that wifi-less train tomorrow back home.
It seems to "work" as in it creates the 3G to wifi connection via ad-hoc access point which my macbook can connect to fine - but I cannot access the internet from the laptop.
I tried 3G to usb and it just sits at "waiting for connection". I have synced up my Fuze to the macbook via usb via missing sync so I know the usb connection does "work".
I had it point to both medianet and a new gprs connection I created pointing to nothing (no user/pass/etc) and it connects to both but nada on the macbook end.
I should add I did delete the Forcecellconnection reg entry.
Any ideas?
thx

The reason for this is because AT&T has coded a registry key that only allows the ISP.CINGULAR apn do teathering. I am using another ROM so that has been removed but the registry key that you should remove to enable this is:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\InternetSharing\settings\ForceCellConnection
just make sure to reboot the phone once you delete the key.

as stated above, the registry key was removed before the problems.

Sorry, I should have read the complete post before. I have not been able to teather to my mac but i have read that it works with bluetooth although I havent tried it yet.

I've been struggling with it as well and I had the impression that the software doesnt behave properly as a DHCP server. Meaning your laptop is not getting an IP address from your phone.
I also note that after you install this program it uses a fixed IP address for the wireless lan card, which results in not being able to access any other wireless access point when you're done using wmwifirouter. So I gave up and am waiting for a newer version where this might work all a bit more intuitive.

wmwifirouter works perfectly with my macbook/ipod. Did you keep all the default settings? (i did)

yes i did - didnt work.
I loaded up vista on boot camp and i can get internet sharing to work there.. weird.
I am going to try a few custom ROMs and see if that helps at all - will report back.
thx!

welli tried notatreofanand da-gs roms and they both work in vista but still no go for leopard...
i cant figure out why it connects via usb fine in windows but osx doesnt ever want to connect with this or internet sharig?
i know the phone can sync n connect via usb since The Missing Sync can connect and even transfer files and such.
any other ideas?

Kaiser not accessing net through my pc

AFAIK the kaiser should use my home net connection when synched with my PC right?
I remember when I was setting up / installing that I ticked some kind of box to not use hosts net conn when attached via USB (God knows why I did, I knew it was a bad idea after i hit OK...) but I don't remember where I set it.
I have looked around and can't seem to find any setting like that - any ideas?
if i'm not mistaken, that's a setting you need to change when you DON'T have your device connected to your pc.

Hmm, that reg entry didn't seem to do it. I still can't access the net on my mobile through my pc.
its a setting in activesync/Mobile Device center, you will know it when you see it
In activesync go to file-->connection settings...--> and uncheck the allow wireless connection on device when connected to the desktop and your phone should stop using gprs instead of activesync to connect to the net when your connected.
hmm I still can't get a Internet connection through my computer! Does someone else still have the same problem?

Same problem here. I have the latests ActiveSync....I have "The Internet" selected as what my PC connect to in ActiveSync. I have un-checked "Allow Wireless Connection" - and still nothing. The phone won't sync with my Exchange server when connected to my PC....very annoying because the phone lags behind my 'real' schedule as a result!
Anyone?

Go check your router and/or firewall settings....
Your Kaiser should have it's own IP adres cause syncing is a network-based affair these days, so this might cause the problem in your network setup...
Check Settings/USB to PC ; change the Enable advanced network functionality, and try again. Happend to me in Vista, and after messing with this setting Windows Update downloaded latest driver for HTC and fixed the problem. (As i remember you can change it back afterwards, if it solves your problem).
thanks for all the help so far guys.
It definately seems to be an issue with activesync (ie the desktop PC) because when I connect to my PC here at work, it is all fine.

Thanks darkilici...!! I un-checked "advanced network functionality" under Seettings, Connections, USB-to-PC, and when I plugged my TyTn II back into my PC - it "found" the device again, re-loaded the driver, and now I am accessing the Internet on my TyTn II through my PC! Thanks......HUGE!
Much appreciated.
Unchecking it caused my phone to be able to use wireless while synched - thanks!
But if I tick it again, it goes back to how it was.
The error I am getting is:
"The page you are looking for cannot be found due to error 0x80072f78"
Even with it unticked, it's not really what I want. I want it to use my much faster broadband connection while tethered...
I think I may do a hard reset.
I forgot to ask, by any chance are you on T-Mobile (or any network that requires a proxy to access the net over GPRS)? If you are, then you have to disable the proxy server to be able to access the net over activesync.
Yes, I am on T-Mobile with Web n Walk.
Do you mean the one in "Connections"?
I removed that proxy tickbox and it seems to work now. Do I not need the proxy? What is it for? Cacheing? Or is it only to enforce the "No adult content sites" block? (Which I have removed so I can access facebook)
Thanks ever so much!
I'm on t-mobile in the US and I have to have the proxy to access the net over GPRS or it won't work at all. I'm not sure about if you need the proxy in the UK or not, but the easiest way to find out is to try to access the net over GPRS without the proxy and see if it works or not. If it doesn't the it would probably be easier for you to set up a second connection, the first with the proxy the way you already have it set up and then a second that has the same settings as the first only without the proxy settings. Then, just switch between the 2 when needed. Unfortunately that's the simplest way to do it that I have found.
Hmm, I'm actually looking for something like this, but not. Anyone know of a way to make it use AT&T's internet while connected to a computer with ActiveSync? That registry tweak works great for when I'm at home, but when I'm at work or something, I may want to use my phone's internet (GPRS/EDGE/3G/HSDPA). I have a program that lets me control my kaiser from a computer (MyMobiler), but it needs activesync. If I have Activesync, I have to use my work internet (which I don't want to do). Hopefully that makes sense.. Any ideas?

How do I use my Tilt as a wireless modem?

I have used my 8525 as a wireless modem but I can't seem to get the Tilt to connect. Did HTC come out with new modem drivers or did the dial up connection settings change when we switched back to ATT? I'm using a Win XP laptop and trying to connect over USB. Can someone give me a step by step process?
Thanks
yeah i'm lookn to see how to enable dun
Search around more for "Internet Sharing" for more information, there have been a few posts about it.
To use your cellular data connection for PC internet most people seem to use the included (but semi hidden Internet Sharing application).
It's located in the windows folder called "Internet Sharing". If you run it it's pretty clear how to get it up and running. The stock version works for USB or Bluetooth PAN connections to a PC. If you follow the instructions in the thread here you can supposedly set it up to use it as an adhoc Wifi access point. Haven't tried it myself so can't vouch for that one.
Basically you run the program, select your PC connection type, select Media Net and boom you're connected.
I am having the same problem connecting via a USB cord. Unfortunately I do not have an installation CD to update the modem drivers either. The drivers Windows is using may be from my 8525(which I got to work as a modem). I tried using Internet sharing from the windows folder but it does not help. The furthest I have gotten is a yellow light in the first box.
If anyone happens to have a link to the modem driver, please post it so I can keep hacking away. I'll post a solution if I can ever figure this out.
Tilt as a wireless modem
The easy way is to open File Explorer, go to the Windows directory and look for a file called "Internet Shar....". Press and hold on it and select Copy. The go to Windows>Start Menu>Programs and Paste it in here. Now it will be a selectable program in your Programs menu. Start the program while connected via USB to your laptop and hit "Connect" on the lower left side of the screen. Worked like a charm for me.

Add bluetooth DUN to ICS
THis will add bluetooth DUN to ICS, basically you can tether over bluetooth with ICS as a modem or whatever..You need to install the .cab file posted here and thats basically it..Works perfect

Can't tehter USB with Internet Sharing
Hi guys: I have an AT&T rom without the bloatware. I have also Blackberry Connect unlimited plan as my email solution. I haven't been able to tether via usb with my laptop using Internet Sharing. I get the message: check usb cable and then neither of the 3 data connections (Medianet, AT&T GSPR and Blackberry) can connect. I get the message: the other party disconnected the connection. I would appreciate any help I can get. I really need to tether through my laptop. Thanks!
htc modem
i have my phone hooked up as a modem and everytime i disconnect, some of my programs dont work. then my text messages dont go through and i have to reset my phone then they come through on my sim card. can someone tell me what is going on?
I'm sure you need to start a whole new thread for this.
On the Internet sharing do you choose - ATT ISP GPRS or MediaNet ?
I used MediaNet and it worked, but you have to turn off USB connections in ActiveSync. It will interfere.

Comm Manager Internet Sharing instead of Wireless Modem?

I have an AT&T Tilt running its original ROM. Is there a way to change the Comm Manager to have a shortcut to Internet Sharing instead of Wireless Modem? I replaced the Comm Manager with a nice touch style one, but it still shows Wireless Modem, so I assume there is somewhere in the registry which tells Windows which one to use by default for this type of task. Does anyone know how to change it?
Bump...It's been awhile since this question was asked and I'm looking for the same thing. Anyone have any ideas yet?
Has anyone found a way?
where is Internet Sharing?
I'd like to give ICS a try instead of using wireless modem.
I have the original ROM. Where should I find Internet Connection Sharing?
I've looked in Start > Programs, and it's not there. If it is not on my phone, can I add it?
Thanks, Bren

If its not there, its hidden in your My Device/Windows directory. Its there, you just gotta look. On mine its called Internet Sharing. You can then create a shortcut to it and place it in your programs or start menu.

download both AdvancedConfig_v1.1.CAB and AdvancedConfig_v1.0.CAB from http://xda.scan4.us/index.php?sort=date&order=desc&path=Cabs/ and change it from there
Internet Connection Sharing
Thanks for your responses to my post. I did find the app in my Windows folder. It's called IntShrUI.exe. I pasted a shortcut of it into my Start Menu > Programs folder. I haven't been able to figure out how to configure my PC to make it work.
I've been researching in the forums how to configure a PC to use the internet connection of my phone. My PC doesn't have Bluetooth, so I would like to use the USB connection. Most of the postings are how to configure for Bluetooth.
If you know where to find a good explanation, please post the link for me. I'm running Windows XP Pro. I want to use the phone as a back up connection if my cable connection goes down.
I have been successful using my phone with AT&T connection manager on my computer, but I have a problem with that. I have Virtual PC installed on my computer, and the network configuration of Virtual PC doesn't recognize the AT&T Connection Manager as a network card, so my VPC doesn't have access to the internet through my phone.
I'm hoping that with Internet Connection Sharing, the network adapter on my PC will still be used, and access the Internet through the gateway on my phone.
Thanks, Bren

There are 2 ways to get it working over USB. Either get the USB modem drivers working, (Which I have never been able to do) or use windows dial up networking. I have connected my Tilt to the AT&T 3G data network with the Windows xp Professional DUN interface. When I get home I'll copy my DUN settings and post them here. Its the same settings I used to use to teather my Motorola V551 for data. I accidentally clicked on DUN a few weeks ago while the Tilt was connected and it worked with the same settings.
Of course, I do have a USB Bluetooth dongle, and getting ICS working is easiest with BT. All you have to do for that is set up a pairing between the 2 devices, and create a BT Personal Area Network.
-Jay
I got it working
Thanks, Jay.
I pieced together information I found about ICS, and I got it working. It works with my Virtual PC because Windows XP puts a Network Connection in the Network Connections folder that I can use to create a Virtual Network in the VPC configurations.
When my phone is connected to my computer via USB, and I open Internet Connection Sharing app on the phone, and then connect to the phone's data network, the Network Connection is automatically created in XP.
I'm not sure what was missing, but when I tried this earlier on my laptop, it didn't successfully automatically install the Generic RDNIS driver that my desktop did successfully install. I'm going to try it again on my laptop. On my laptop, I do have bluetooth, and I will try to get that working instead of USB.
I'm wondering, is there any advantage to using AT&Ts Communication Manager instead of Internet Connection Sharing?
Thanks again for your response.

I would think that the advantage is that they then know for a fact you are teathering, and can be exxxxtra sure you are being "properly billed" on an "appropriate" data plan that probably costs at least $60/mo

Ok, I found the Cingular / AT&T DUN settings on my computer.
Username: [email protected]
Password: CINGULAR1 (This is case sensitive!!!)
Number to Dial: *99***3#
I also always max out the port speed in the modem configuration so the port doesn't restrict a nice fast HSDPA connection.
This will work for Bluetooth or USB modem connections.

cant browse IE on kaiser thru active sync connection

aparently i have no COM ports avaible, so i cant browse the internet. im not sure how to fix this, but im also not sure if it's just a problem on my kaiser? when i try to go on the internet it tries to connect to 3G, but i want to use active sync
You want to connect to the internet through your home pc via usb/BT?
You might want to try this.. I'm not SURE, just offering a suggestion.. someone can confirm/bunk this either way..
Start|Settings|Connections|Connections
One of the settings there might work for you,
If not.. theres a Little blue Question mark in the top right that actually has some pretty in depth info..
Sorry I couldnt be of more help, but it's a start.
Is ActiveSync actually working for you? I mean... is your Kaiser synching with your PC?
If activesync is working fine, try this on your PC (not on your Kaiser).
Open Regedit and go to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows CE Services
Create a new DWORD data type called "AllowLSP" and set it to 0
Plug your Kaiser again and let me know if it worked.

if i'm reading right you want to use internet sharing using usb or bluetooth and browse the internet using your PC?? is it?
1.first open setting in your active sync then uncheck allow the usb connection .
2.plug in the usb cable to ur pc and kaiser
3.open the internet sharing in your kaiser end select conection typ usb or bluetooth.
4.connect. (your computer will be installing rds driver automaticcaly)
5.then you'll have a gprs internet trough your pc
note you must have gprs/3g connection available in ur network.
in ur pc in the internet connection option makesure you select direct connection if you use firefox/opera.
Hope this solve your problem.

You are wanting to browse IE on your phone using the Activesync usb or BT connection (phone uses PC's internet connection for data) am I correct in thinking that?
I'm not sure what you mean by 'No comm ports available' as your WM device connects via USB?
Sorry if these steps may seem a bit condecending but best to check all.
1, Has your PC got a working internet connection (can you browse IE on your PC) ?
2, Is Activesync actually working (your contacts and mail are sync'ed) ?
3, In connection settings on Activesync (PC) you need 'Allow wireless connection' unchecked (Checked for tethering, PC goes through phone 3G) or phone will try to go through any data connections of its own first.
4, On your WM device under 'Settings' 'Connections' 'USB to PC, check the 'Enable advanced network functionality'
Hope this helps.
I have a similar query, I can use my PC's internet connection from home, but when I connect to my work PC it does not. Now I know this is down to the fact that my Work PC uses a proxy server, but how do I add this info in to my Tytn2.
Hi Farsquidge,
I have followed your steps above, but when I try to connect to IE on my device, I get the message "The current connection cannot be used for your request. Please end the current connection and try again."
Any ideas?
Also, many thanks for the widespread advice you have given throughout the fora - it has really helped me get the most of out of my TyTN2!

Your welcome.
Is your device an 'out of the box' HTC device that was not bound to a carrier contract? Some carrier (ie. AT&T Vodaphone) seem to have settings within the ROM (seen in other threads) that tie you in to only using their settings (ie Media.net) and using a proxy that cannot be changed for IE only for GPRS connections.
Anyone got ideas on this one.
Unfortunately, Orange UK got their hands on my TyTN2 before I did! Perhaps that's the source of my problems?

Are Orange UK (I am from UK but living abroad now) still wanting to promote their own Internet?
I know only last year a pal of mine said he could not connect his Nokia through his home WiFi because it would not connect via his BT Internet.
Check if you have a proxy connection set up on your GPRS cause ya never know!!!
I can connect to any Wifi network and access webpages without problems. Doesn't seem that there are any restrictions from that point of view. Thanks for the help - guess it's not really a problem not having Internet access via ActiveSync, as it connects to the Wifi network.
i guess i shoulda been more specific.
i wanted to browse the internet on my kaiser, using the active sync connection. however it wasnt working, but now ive re-installed opera and it works with that, not sure if it works with IE yet.
installed Opera and still no hope.
my tytn II is out of the box, not on any contract with an operator. can any one please help me..

Wireless Tether never works for me!

Hey guys so ive tried ever wireless tether app under the sun and none ever seem to work for me.
Im running Cyan's 4.01, PdaNet the wired version works flawlessly for me when i tether it to my computer, however done of the wireless ones EVER work for me, ive tried both aNetshare and the "Wireless Tether for Root" App that is floating around on the forums here, neither have ever worked for me
i have absolutely no problems connecting my computer to my G1 via wifi when using these programs, however the connection is always Peer to Peer and Local only, never internet and it never works
any ideas?
What OS are you trying to tether with?
Ensure your wifi network settings have DHCP set....
ALSO if you're wifi uses a NON-Microsoft Wifi settings software (e.g. Intel's or Broadcom) disable it and use the microsoft stack.
Are you trying to connect via Ad-hoc? Also are you using the WEP encryption? Does it give you any errors or just doesn't seem to connect?
The computer im connecting with is running Vista.
Im not using any form of WEP encryption is 100% open, it has no problems connecting peer to peer but the internet is inaccesible via tethering, it connects fine with no errors but it states local only with no internet access
Also as another side note, i use a program called SwiFTP which runs FTP via wifi so i can transfer file to and from my computer and G1 wirelessly , however that system never works, whenever i go to enable it, it says "Error Opening port, check your network connection" and the program does not work, ive tried changing different ports, i used the default port 2121 and it cannot open it, i also tried other random ones like 23 etc and it can never open a port or seem to work
Are you trying to connect via Ad-Hoc?
No, im using "Wireless Tether for Root Users" app downloaded off this forum
I think that is the problem. When you try to connect to the G1 on your computer, you have to set up the computer to connect via Ad-Hoc, not on the G1.
Not sure of the entire setup process, but go to the control panel and click on set up network connections (or something along that line) somewhere in the options of connection types there should be Ad-Hoc. You will have to enter the network name and confiure the WEP encryption, but it is pretty easy.
You should be able to figure it out from there. Let me know if you have any more problems.
access control option
have you checked the access control settings? if this is enabled, you have to manually allow the machines internet connection.
Hey, I had to apk's fo rthis the signed_andtether_1_52-pre2.apk did not work. The file labeled Signed_andtetehr_1_52.apk works everytime.
Firewall?
Sure your Vista Firewall is on? If so FORCE it off and try again...
