I am getting a new Tilt on Friday, and am interested in clearing space, and getting rid of all the bloatware. Can this be done by getting the latest ROM from the HTC site for starters, and if I do, what are the implications in terms of Mobile 6.1. I am a novice, and know just enough to get myself in over my head, and don;t want to crash the phone before I really even use it. I am also interested in eventually further customizing it.
I have gotten all the SPB programs from a "friend"...so would also ask which of these would you all recommend installing, and which ones aren't worth installing?
Thanks alot, I'll save my cube and TouchFlo questions for a couple of days after I get the phone, LOL.
Have a great holiday everyone

It really does help to read, I think the FAQs answered the first question, but am still interested in anyone who has an opinion on the SPB programs...thanks

I just got the AT&T Tilt last Friday and have found myself pondering if it was worth the $300.00? I am thinking about taking it back because it seems to buggy. The phone its self is good looking but WM6 is just ugly compared to the iPhone interface. Anyways what do you think?
If aesthetics are you main concern, sure go with an iPhone. I like functionality over appearance, so I love my tilt!
yes it worth it, there is soooooo many apps that u can add, you can even upgrade from that cingular rom, i havent seen anyone with my tilt yet
Now come on... this is getting beyond a joke....You have an At&T Tilt, not a 'HTC TyTnII'
Please disclose your business affiliations as I am POSITIVE you are associated with apple as this is getting really stupid!
Who buys a very expensive phone without research then suddenly comes on this forum and denouces it within a few weeks without really trying it??
I am amazed!!!
OH, BTW I am not associated with HTC in any way and I find it a 100% piece of kit for what I wanted.
Amazing how many times you see "is it worth it to me" on forums. Who else but you could possibly answer if it's worth it to you???
hahahaha good point, Farsquidge......iphone=downgrade
First off I do not work for AT&T!!! I am a high school student that spent alot of time doing research on this phone! I love my "'HTC TyTnII" or whatever you want to call it! I only called it the Tilt for the simple fact that its branded name is the AT&T Tilt. This has to be the most unfriendly forum I have ever been on!
Dude you need to chill out. Swearing will get you banned. Everyone has their opinions about the iPhone and the Tilt. If you don't like someone else's opinions, just ignore them.
Personally I love the Tilt. The iPhone just doesn't do enough for me. Yes, it has a very nice interface but in the end, function wins over form.
If you want a pretty phone, go with the iPhone. If you want one that you can easily hack and tweak and load tons of 3rd party apps on, get the Tilt, but it is your choice to make, not ours to make for you.
In the end, you have to live with your choice.
P.S. I absolutely love my Tilt. It runs rings around the iPhone and I don't have to worry about Steve Jobs making my life difficult by not letting me do what I want with it.
Thank you. I think I will stay with my Tilt.

Please don't give up.. I know some of us (me for one!) can be a little short tempered with what is around on this forum at the moment (flaming the device!) but all of us on here would like to try to help you futher your unit!
I am sorry if I seemed to shoot you down at the start...
Let's move on from that...
You say you have a 'Tilt', first thing we can recommend is re-flashing your ROM to a HTC TyTnII as the AT&T is a very basic firmware but when you do this you will lose your AT&T settings ( that is your 3G HSDPA connection). Then you will need the latest Network settings cab.. Then lets move on from that!!! OK?
There are so many different roms witch is the one I need to use?
True, there are many. I like the att rom. it's not that bad. i just removed all of the bloatware on it by doing a soft reset after the hard reset and that freeed like 20 mb or so. btw, if you want to run different roms on the tilt, you must cid unlcok your tilt.
We need a few bits of info to start you off.
First, tell us the device (I know it may seem strange but we need to know who you bought it from ie At&T or whatever as this forum is worldwide!!)
Then when you first turn on the phone (turn it off by holding the power button!) try to get the OS and Radio versions it has. You may need to do this a couple of times as it disappears quickly.
If I am not online you will find loads of guys willing to help....
You have come into a great community that will work with you so long as we get the correct info...
I bought it from an AT&T store. The numbers are R1.27.12.11 G22.445.88.07h D1.57.00.00.
I need the same help here, thanks in advance
I will follow this thread since I have the same phone, same radio and OS, I'm very interested in getting a better ROM to see what are the PROS.
OK guys, have a good read at the WiKi...

Especially at the 'How to flash a new ROM' section. It will give you a good aspect of what you will be doing..
I should have my tilt in a few days ( Amazon is the worst!). So I have been going around trying to gather as much information as possible on how customize my phone....Farsquidge, if I change my tilt interface to the TyTn11 interface I will lose my 3g? Also what is the benefit of changing? Also, I met alot of people who told me of good apps for my phone but is there a site where I can go where there is alot of apps with discriptions of what they do?

If you re-flash your 'Tilt' (as it is an AT&T carrier device) you will lose your AT&T connection settings.
You will end up with a 'Carrier free' device with (or) without sim unlock depending on the way you do it. You will then have to re-install these with a 'Network profile app' from this forum. You will find plenty of apps (in the form of .cab files) on here to keep you happy for ages!
Be patient because there are tons of guys on this forum who have reflashed their devices that will add their input to help you. No one is online all the time but will get to you when they can.
Thanks. The more I look on different forums, the more confused I get. I'm not to phone/computer savy so I have to do some research on the simple words and terms used up here. Thanks alot.
It takes a long time to get up to speed, I'm not close yet. Personally, I don't have a problem with the ATT rom, I guess b/c I haven't seen a flashed one to compare it to. I've added a bunch of fun/useful programs from this site, FFF and IMSMS are great ones and all the home customizations are very cool. The other day, I was beaming IMSMS to a friend. A stranger passing says "oh are we showing off our phones?" and yanks out his iphone hoping we'd be impressed. I said, "nope just beaming a file, do you want it too? Oops, guess you can't do that" You could see him deflate immediately. The iphone is neat to look at, but is so lacking in features and customization it's sad.
Hi everyone. I'm new to the forum, and my TyTN II, which I'm expecting will be in my hands next week, is my first foray into the PPC world.
It's great that a forum like this is available as a resource for PPC users.
I'm excited at the prospect of upgrading my Kaiser with all your great tweaks, but my concern is this (pardon my ignorance):
Is it easy to uninstall any programs (.cab files etc) that you guys have developed here, just in case I decide later on that I don't need/want that particular program on my Kaiser anymore? Can it be done without having to do a hard reset?
Since I'm a tech newbie, I'm a bit apprehensive about installing unofficial programs (no offense meant guys) on an expensive piece of hardware. I wouldn't want to go to the trouble of messing up my device.
'appreciate any input on this.
Thanks in advance.

I'm curious.
What made you buy a Kaiser in the first place? (I'm assuming you did make the decision to buy, right?)
Isn't there a cheaper lower-spec PPC you could've bought to tinker around with?
Uninstalling is as easy as using the built-in "Remove Programs" applet and selecting the prog you want to uninstall.
Having said that, however, tweaking a high-spec device like the Kaiser is not for the apprehensive. My advice is to lose that dread feeling quick, and just tough it out.
I wouldn't worry about hard resets too much. If I had to choose between being forced to hard reset and my device being brick-ed, I'd go with a hard reset any ol' day of the week. At least I get to make a fresh start again, and live to "fight" another day.
Good luck!
I am getting my tilt this afternoon and need to know where to start?
I have heard to reset the phone before the initial apps setup to kill all att bloatware. Is this a good idea?
Also, should I reflash to a certain ROM for faster performance, as the phone seems a little sluggish (at least the demo did at the store).. I know the att store phone has probably never been rebooted, so the new will be a little faster.
Killer apps besides the tweak program?
What ar ethe MUST DOs with this phone?
Thanks in advance. I really appreciate any help!
are you ****ing kidding me. Read the damn site throughly.
all your answers will not be answered in 1 day since I've been using windows mobile for years now and I still come here daily to search for stuff to do,search properly or lots of people will flame you for tryin to be spoonfed like a baby since this is another thread thats not needed
Start reading & start with the sticky. Post questions that you may have in an existing thread.
go back to the store and return the tilt it sucks!
just kidding. I LOVE MY KAISER <3

Hi
a friend recommended I look at this site. But to be honest, I am not too up with how these ROMs work!
All I want is some updates for my X1 and some applications that are more user friendly, particularly SMS, and basically to make my phone more fun to use.
If anyone can point me to one download that will be effective I would be most grateful, as I'm not technically minded at all!
Thanks
Steve
ROMs are a complete replacement of the operating system on your device, and necessarily involves a complete reset of your data. Not for the faint of heart!
If you're just after apps, check out this forum http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=498
Good luck! I'm sure you'll find some great stuff to transform your X1. You certainly want to get the SPB mobile shell from the SE Korea site, and read the tips to get it working (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=541280).
You're in the right place!
All I can tell you is you're in the right place... I was just in your shoes just a few months ago..
1st) I just wanted more panels http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=498934
Then I wanted more and wanted to experience the new look and feel of windows mobile 6.5. So I realized I had to back up my data first and any third party apps I had on my device -
2nd) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=299705
3rd) I had to hard-spl because it seems to be mandatory prior to using one of the custom roms (read carefully, take your time)-> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=431218
4th) I tried a lot of the custom roms available and believe me there's about 4 to 6 that I toggle between everytime they release because they introduce some of the new apps , features,etc.. One I'm using now is here..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=542664
Read up as much as you can about ROM's and the like, I know you don't want to get too 'into' all this stuff - but really custom ROMs make the x1 much, much easier and nicer to use. You don't have to be all that tech savy either.
Also, welcome to XDA....its a ton of info, on here. but dont worry you will get the hang of it, and ask as many questions as you need to..the folks on here are very helpful, but with so many request, they get bogged down a bit
so research first, then ask questions, then research some more while you wait for an answer...
welcome to xda!
Here's just a few things to inform you about to break you in a bit to the modding for your x1.
1.This is the topic you read if you ever wanted to mod your ROM or restore to your original ROM
2. here's a topic that has some good applications to help your phone run more smoothly and also more fun. highly recommand xperiatweak2( very very useful program to help get rid of some annoying things in the x1. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=441439
3. Be nice to your battery and also about the number of times you do softresets (you can read up on what soft and hard resets are on the forum), because it could cause your phone to stop working. which something I experienced painful for myself!!! now I have to send my phone back to sony ericsson to get my phone fixed and also get a new battery beacuse it died on me.
4. In reply to carlonalls about hardspl on x1. it is mandatory in order to any type of ROM modification or repairs to be done
5. save all your important things in your memory card before you do any type of modifications to your phone.
6. I highly recommand you to get google maps if you want a free gps map to use when your out (although not totally safe to use unless you have a x1 car holder because it can get distracting). if you'd be willing to pay the extra money, then get either TOMTOM or Garmin Mobile XT (which both are quite good).
So, I hope you have a good time with your x1 and also on this forum. This forum do have a lot of nice people who are quite encouraging and willing to help. I for one have experience the goodness of certain members that are here.

look around in the rom sections and use the "search" function without hesitation.
also search around before posting a question or request, to avoid reposts and nuisances.
hope this helps

Heya Hippie! And congrats on a great device. I've had my Tilt 2 for about 9 months now and just keep loving it more and more. What are you looking to do to the fone besides stop the error messages? Lemme know, I can give you any help you need. Or you can email me directly or leave me a message on here. I've learned what to look for and also to watch out for, but as anyone here will tell you, we all have differences of opinions, likes and dislikes. Also depending on your taste and how far you'd like to go with your device will vary how far we can go. To get rid of any error messages, which one I can guarantee says: need NETCF.Messages.EN.wm.cab (May not include the ".cab") That's one I ran into a lot before I got a ROM from the threads here. I promise you Hippie, anything you may need will most likely be here on XDA-Developers. This is a great site with many awesome people. As the previous post mentions, use the search at the top. It will help you a great deal!!
Good Luck!!
Jeremy
thanks, panther. I found on the HTC website that they recomend replacing touchflo 3d with sense, which i did and thought i'd give it a try. error messages are gone but it still has a few things i don't like about it. so i think i may try something new when i get the time to. i see your configurations and i think i'll start there, seeing how you are happy with it. then i'll go from there if i want to try something else
