GPS lags with ATT's 6.1 ROM - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

Hello people, this is my first post. Let me start by stating how much thise forum has helped me since the first day I found it. Ok, heres the deal: Im using the stock ATT rom for my att tilt aka: kaiser. I recently upgraded to the 6.1 rom upgrade, which im fearing was a mistake. Everything seems to work fine, except for my favorite app, Garmin Mobile XT. The GPS lags. Not much, but enough to annoy me. This was not a problem when I had the WM6 rom installed, it worked beautifully. Im lost without it and would appreciate ANYONES input and advice!! Thanks for making this a great forum!!

Are you running Garmin Mobile XT version 4.x or already the new 5.0? I have absolutely no problems with Garmin XT v5, GPS and WM6.1.

upgrading to WM6, worth it?

does upgrading a cingular 8125 to WM6 worth it?
What are the diferences that you get?
Dont you loose some performance upgrading to WM6 on cingular 8125?
Thanks
I've only updated a couple of days ago, and tried out 3 or 4 diferente ROM's.
I can tell you that the performance is great, better than using WM5.
The rest, you can choose, and try.
Only then can you see if it's worth.
I've been running WM6 ROMs on my 8125 ever since the first one was leaked here on xda. I can tell you -- without a doubt -- there's NO WAY I'd ever go back to WM5.
The device is MUCH more responsive and snappier than it was with WM5. I can't think of more than a couple of times in the past 4 months that I've had it freeze up or hang when running apps.
There's plenty of WM6 ROMs in the Wizard Mobile 6 forum. Just take a look at each one and see what it has to offer. No one particular ROM will satisfy everybody, as each person has their own likes and dislikes. Just read the entire thread for the ROMs you're considering to see if it's the one for you.
I upgraded to WM6 and shortly after: Back again to WM5.
I think you don't really need WM6 because there are only little improvements to WM5. The Speed-up is the same as after a normal Hard-Reset, what is often said here is maybe a "feeled" speed up, it's everything but objective.
What you get from the "cooked" WM6 versions, you can find here, is a different software equipment, which in some cases really can be interesting. But if you really need some, you can install it on your WM5 aswell.
I think you should try and decide by yourself. It's the only way to get a good answer.
I also was running WM6 and am now going back to 5. It was nice, but I had a lot of missed calls as well as bluetooth problems. Try it out for yourself and see if you like it.
wm6
just like newbie I'm using wm6 since then.
only went back one time to wm5 cause i messed up my wizard and wanted to start from scratch.
the speed is tremendously faster than with wm5
about the mentioned missed calls, did not occur to me as yet.

suggestions for rom choice

I just unpacked my att 8925 tilt this afternoon and its a huge upgrade from the 8125 i had for a year and a half. Anyway i wanted to see what the best way to pimp this thing out. I tried out the program Mobile Shell by SPB. Great program as you all know. Anyway my friend highly recommended xda. I read through the faqs and im still a little weary of what i should do.

is the rom i think works best. I just wanna make sure i can use this one. here are my device details:
Current ROM Version: 1.62.502.0
Radio Version: 1.27.14.09
Do i find a rom thats compatible with my radio, how do i find that?
Thanks in advance, sorry if i jumped around.
If anyone tells you to search for the answers, then a pox on them. We need a good ROM choosing thread every so often for everybody's sake.
I'm with Dutty's Diamond V1 now, and personally I find it much slower than his previous hybrid ROMS, V1 or V2. I haven't tried any of the newer ROMS since then, although that's what I'm about to do now.
Even Dutty himself downgraded from his diamond ROM.

First, this thread will be moved soon, as this is not the place for a discussion thread about rom preferences. Those types of discussions should take place in the Kaiser General forum. This forum is for developing roms.
Second, those people who will tell you to search and try them yourself do so with good reason. "Best rom" is an inherently ambiguous and subjective description as it depends on your language, carrier, usage, programs you like, etc. So please to not cop an attitude with those who are simply trying to remind other users to follow the forum rules, it is not helpful and it really annoys the people here who spend a great deal of free time helping the same people who are constantly complaining. If you don't like the rules, take it up with the administration.

***BE SURE TO HARD SPL BEFORE DOING ANYTING***
Finally, since this will probably get moved anyway, i'll tell you that I have used recently Shoguns Death V4.1 BE edition, Leo's Diamond V9, Dutty's hybrid v2 from april 29th, Garmin's DK1.2, Dutty's Diamond Rom, Sakajati's Hyperdragon, and gullum's new rom. I personally like Garmin's new rom the best, with shogun's a close second and dutty's hybrid v2 third. That being said, all the roms are great. You will need to just see what ones you like best. I know that there are a few more than i didn't mention, but that is only because i haven't used them yet so i cannot speak to their quality.

Best Diamond Rom for Kaiser?

I am trying to figure out which Diamond Rom works best on the Kaiser. I am looking for speed and reliability. So far I have only used L26's rom V5 and V9. I would prefer a rom with MS Voice Command but I can install that later if needed. Thanks everyone.
Hyperdragon for me
I have found great speed and most importantly stability with Hyperdragons ROM. They are not bloated and you can install what you need on them. After trying and flashing roms every week, i have been hanging on to the last Hyperdragon that I installed since last 30 days. Its remarkable for me.
And it seems to be going strong.
And someone else will reply that he loves another ROM, I'm hooked on ROMeOS for example.
Really, the best thing to do is to try out a few, you'll find out what is important for you, and you'll end up with a ROM that YOU will like.
Well I appreciate everyones input. I have only tried L26's Roms. I am in the process of trying Hyperdragons and will try your recommendation next. Thanks again.
Check my ROM thread. It will be updated daily.
I hope that i can finish all Cooked 6.1 ROM's till friday. Ill do my best.
Yeah, You were not kidding when you said Ultimate thread. I saved it to my favorites. Since there are so many, do you yourself have a preference? I have tried L26 V5 and V9. V5 was the most stable for me, V9 has some issues for my device. I have also tried HyperDragon III 1.1.6 version which has been decent and has great graphics. I think I may try Duttythroy's next.
I've found Dutty's Diamond to be the quickest on my Tilt.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=398271
I tried a recent version of hyperdragon and it was sickeningly fast. Never thought it'd be possible on the tilt. But it had issues with wmp crashing the phone, which I believe is fixed now. I've tried sleuth's, but it's not diamond I don't believe. Was quite slow (too old I guess). Hopefully new version coming soon will haul ass. Am on l26 right now and it's fast compared to older roms, but dog slow compared to hyperdragon. Quite stable though and I love the look of the stock diamond. Glossy black almost
i tried em all
Hyperdragon IIIs or IIIr for me!
I believe SJ is coming out with a new one sometime soon. sweeeeeeeeet
Garmin ROM 1.2
I have tried lot of ROMS (even Dutty's) for kaiser, but what I found the best ROM is Garmin ROM 1.2 till now.
Gullum's ThrottleDiamond
Try Gullum's Throttle Diamond Rom. I've tried all of the previously mentioned ones and enjoyed most, but Gullum's gives you more functionality similar to a diamond in my opinion.
Getting used to the Throttle Launcher will be your only challenge if you have not had experience with it before.
Good luck!
From the Diamond ROM's I've tried... I think HyperDragon IIIs is the best, mainly because of it's stability. It is based on 19591. The others I've tried are Dutty v1, Garmin DK1.2 and L26 v8... which are all based on 19588.
My humble opinion

Upgrade my TyTN II to 6.1 ??

I have been looking to upgrade my Tytn II to the latest ROM however I have not been able to get the upgrade it from HTC.
but its seems to not be there....
My system is
R 1..27.15.32
G 22.51.8.13H
D 1.82.00.00
Now I"m not sure what all those numbers ar efor but I know the R is for radio!!
I got lost after reading that bit... I was going to try to upgrade it myself but got confused so I stopped... trying and thought I'd wait till an update was available from HTC...
Well it seems its not to me anyways...
SO if there is anyone out there that can help me sort out an upgrade..
I live in Brisbane, and use optus as my carrier... my phone is unlocked as far as I know... I purchased it on the net from a Melbourne online store.

Exactly! Having been there, done that and decided to go back to WM 6.0, in my effort to help a fellow person from 'down under', I can tell targ that if he uses (or expects to use) Tomtom or GPS at all on the device, he'd better be very patient at waiting for satellite locks under WM 6.1.
Although HTC have improved some of their WM 6.1 upgrades by using a newer Radio, I've tried the latest WWE version and it's still far short of what my original WM 6.0 implementation achieved as far as GPS performance is concerned. Once you upgrade to 6.1 it's quite a task to go back to WM 6.0 (the spl needs reverting too) so I had HTC do that on my device under warranty.
Yup tried reading that...
got lost as to what I need to match to what!!!
Like I said I'm looking for a some help to do this .
I"ll have another crack at it though see if I can make sense of any of it...
Peto01 man what you mean the gps goes crap... in 6.1
Is this only in a few units or every unit.

Have a look at this thread about *hopeless* GPS after 6.1 update
The problem seems fairly widespread with TyTN II WM 6.1 updates. Since the ROM and Radio on your device seem to be from the Rogers network (as listed in the xda-dev wiki), that may explain why the generic HTC upgrade doesn't work for your device (only genuine HTC TyTN IIs will run the HTC upgrade as-is).
If you're just wanting to upgrade to WM 6.1 because it's the latest, you may be disappointed!
Useful!
I was browsing forum trying to see should I upgrade my stock 6.0 ROM to 6.1. Now I am sure that I will wait for couple more months (weeks?) !
I'm inclined to wait until the next ROM and Radio release has been tested/reviewed
I'm inclined to let someone else be the guinea pig regarding fixing the broken GPS. When a new ROM/Radio Combination is released on HTC eClub/Support, I'll check here to see how reports about GPS performance look and then when I'm sufficiently sure it's not still broken, will again jump over to WM 6.1.
Once bitten, twice shy and I don't want to have to get HTC to revert it to WM 6.0 again!

I had the same experience and reverted back to 6.0 roms. BUT I've recently been using Garmins WM6.1 DK3 with radio 1.65.17.56 and the GPS fix is always quick and strong - Works all over UK. This setup may be worth considering.

I want to keep it all official HTC and not have to use hardspl at this stage, besides I prefer the look of the original HTC setup (themes, icons etc) over the customised Garmin DK3. The latest official HTC ROM for the device uses the same radio as you're using and I was far from satisfied with its reception instability compared to the old WM 6.0 setup. I've sent a letter to the big cheese at HTC so will wait and see what happens!
Flying Kiwi,
What do you mean "Rogers network" (WTF) I bought a HTC Tytn II from a Retailer. surely this is not a fake HTC??
Should I be looking at taking it back?
Does this mean I don't have any Warrenty?
This would be why HTC said that the Upgrade is not a suitable for my unit... going by the S/N!!
What am I to DO now.
As for the GPS issue some seem to be having no real issue with cooked roms.
AS I live in Australia would I need to get a diff radio then say you in the UK?
I"m rather intrested in the L26 TL ROM of Leo's
And if I understand it correctly I need to
1. run jump SPL
2. then flash the SPL that suits the rom I go for.
3. flash the Radio
4. Flash the ROM I have choisen.
Then hard reset.
IS that right?
or have I got the order wrong or missed a step.
Just trying to make a simple as I can..
Would my location and carrier make a difference as to which SPL, ROM, RADIO I use.
OH yeah !
What Does the R, D, and G mean...
Well, I finally did my first ROM change (to 6.1) and have to say I don't have any problems at all.
I have a T-mobile Vario 3, that although everything worked, I always found slow and buggy.
I went for Sleuths 6.1 V3 ROM, simply because I was a hermes user before and his stuff was always flawless.......and I was proved right again.
It's really simple to do, contains the correct radio (much better than the shipped one), and is really fast and stable. Had it a week and used it intensively - no problems with Tomtom or GPS - the same, if not better than it was before.
I would suggest, if you're not sure which one to go for then try this and see if it suits you.
Ok I tried to use the link in the WIki to the Jump SPL the latest one that only needs you to follow the on screen info..
And well according to the on screen prompts it must be done but as for the unit its self I don't hink so as nothing really happened on it... I"m thinking that the wizard does not like Vista or it does not like Sync Centre.
anyone able to help me out ....
No WTFs reqd after-all

Your Radio (R) is the same as that used by Rogers on their WM 6.0 ROMs. But you're right, I missed the bit about your 1.82 series ROM though so it looks more like you have the 3rd one down the wiki list of HTC WM 6.0 ROMs here and not the first: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Kaiser_ROMs

Not if it currently works as you need it to but you could see what their explanation for why there is no WM 6.1 upgrade for your device yet is. HTC in Australia should also be able to advise you http://www.htc.com/au/about_htc.aspx?id=21840

And some are so are you willing to take that risk as a newbie and get stuck with a non-original non-warrantable installation thats not straight forward to revert back to original WM 6.0 if it plays up for you? Is it not worth liasing with HTC first to see what they have to say about a possible WM 6.1 update if you're really that keen?

Pass on the Radios but if history is anything to go by, there are a few different ROMs on that wiki page released for Australia. If you do a bit of searching around here I think you'll find cases of peoples non-Australian purchased TyTN IIs having problems when used there as well. I can't recall what the issues were but there definitely were issues (months ago before WM 6.1 came out on the Kaiser). Perhaps a search for Australia just in the Kaiser General or Kaiser ROM Dev forums may yeild results.
Thanks heaps I'll follow your leads Cheers

[Q] Isn't there any reliable, working and fast ROM for X1?

I am following this forum since 2 years now, when I got my X1 in Dec 2008. Finally, I found a very good working ROM here. But I reset my phone and wanted to use a newer ROM.
But any ROM I tried sucks. I am working for over one week now on this issue It's quite annoying.
All I want is a ROM which uses WM 6.5.3 or rather 6.5.1. I wanna use SPB Shell 2 not 3.5.x, because it is too slow.
Is there anybody here who can recommend a ROM that is working well on his X1???
Sorry for yammering =)
I need a reliable cell in 2 weeks...gotta fix that problem now, finally.
Thanks for ya help
Sven
Moved to Q&A, not rom dev
In answer to your question though, why not cook your own
Well, a pure WM ROM would also be sufficient for me, forgot to mention that...thanks for the advice ;-)
I guess I cannot cook my own one, but in order to use SPB shell...a pure one is fine.
