I need to get my ole lady (wife) some kind of GPS navigation device. If she was to jump off a tall building she still couldn't navigate to the ground floor.
She is very technologically challenged. So I need a GPS device that is easy to use and set up. The more features it has, the less likely it would be good for her. What say ye for recommendations? TomTom, Garmin, Magellan?
I always use Garmin Mobile XT for GPS, and NusaMap (Indonesia) for tracking,.
But both of them, i dont really know all the feature,.
all i know was they are simple to use,. LOL
but mind you gps is not that good for vertical navigation
nor does it work that well indoors
I can recomend a Garmin Nuvi 200W. Cheap, touch screen, wide screen.

Oh I beg to differ, a good GPS will give one the altitude.
One feature I'm looking for, given the fact I am buying it for a woman, is it needs to be able to read her mind. That way it already knows where she wants to go and plots the course when she gets in the car.

I want to get a navigation program for my diamond.
Now i am confused which one to get.
I heard that tom tom is old/out dated and slower
heard nothing about Route 66
And heard a view other names.
Please share your experiance and opinion about the navigation software you used.
And why!
Thank you!
Personally, I really like Copilot Live 7.
It's easy enough to use, does what it says on the tin and has quite a nice interface. I really like it.
I've loaded and have been using Garmin XT Mobile and love it.
well i think this is sufficient enough ?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=398925 + another 2 or three threads about GPS
Hi guys, I'm new to the forum and the touch pro for that matter. I'm an avid fisher in south georgia and am in need of an app to help me tag gps locations on some of the rivers and lakes around here. I have a Fish Finder on my boat but not a gps unit. Since my phone has the hardware built in, I figured I could save a few bucks and use it for the funcionality. I've searched the forums and google to no avail. Does anyone know of a program for winmo that is either dedicated to this or could be used to accomplish this. I guess something like google maps but with more focus on the lakes and rivers.
I know you guys will come through so thanks in advance.

I agree
we need something that can be used like a hand held GPS and not just driving directions from Google Maps and AmazeGPS. Something that actually shows the coordinates where you are so you can set a marker to go back to that spot.
GREAT IDEA SIR.
Anyone know of some wares which can do this... Does not have to be free, but free is preferred!

Pretty sure this does what you need:
http://aeguerre.free.fr/Public/PocketPC/NoniGPSPlot/EN/index.php
NoniGPSPlot
It reminds of my old Garmin eTrex. And not the color one either, the original yellow waterproof one.
Sweet find, looks like it might be just what I need.
Installed, and will test it out on my next excursion.
On a side note, I also found a program called Run.GPS but it's a pay program, Anyone know if it is better. They state that it is made for many different sporting applications. Just wondering if it's worth the extra money over the free one listed by phobos512?
not working on HTC HD2
I downloaded the smartphone version but its still not working
Bunch of my buddy's got iphones and are constantly showing me cool apps for just about everything. I know our phones rule, so post up some of your favorites so I have a bit to show
I am still looking for a good weather app with radar -.-
I really like WMwifirouter http://www.wmwifirouter.com/ It has a free trial its great.
it turns your data connections from your phone into wifi. Making your phone into a wifi hotspot!
look for Shootme v 2.5, thats a fun one. its like iphones shotgun app only this one has machine gun, whip, boxing glove, and more(my fav is the hair clippers, if you sneak up behind someone it really sounds and feels like your hair is being buzzed off haha)
Im assuming ur a guy by posting this.. but HDwobble has to be one of the funniest apps..

but u dont have to limit urself to breasts, if youre not completely dirty mined.
SK Tracker. It's a must-have if you flash a lot and want to learn how to back up all your settings w/ UC or sashimi.
Tom Tom stand alone GPS. I dont need to have internet access to figure where im at via google maps.
Apps
No apps really compare to Iphone apps. Especially games, the only game that is interesting and fun is "Xtrakt" and that is originally for the Sony Ericsson Xperia 1 and it doesnt fit on the screen correctly. The Touch Pro wasnt really thought of when it comes to impressive applications.
FindME
I don't mean to blow my own horn, but I am finishing up testing LsFindMe. It is an app I wrote, which I use to find my car in a parking lot (Actually more likemy wife uses it daily).
You "tag" the car when you leave the car. when you leave the mall you click "findme" . The system tells you how far from your car you are, and guides to to it.
slingplayer mobile.... use it everyday @ work and on the rail road home...
and hTorch of course... lets see the iphone guys do something like that!! good luck w/o a flash!!

And where exactly can you get Tom tom for the Touch Pro with North American maps, I am willing to buy them, but TomTom.com does not sell them.
If you're musical, Pocket Guitar is impressive http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=482726 It's available for the iphone too, but it works great in the TP and it's free.
You mean I can only have one favorite app?
The list is seriously endless for me. This is just part of it:
GRemote
FM Radio (comes in handy sometimes)
A few of the games in the Mega Arcade Pack
TF3D (Can't say I've ever seen an iPhone interface this sexy )
WorldCard Mobile
PocketIRC
HTC's Wi-Fi Router app (Just started using it recently and love it, though USB tethering worked awesome too)
I used to really enjoy hearing "What's one thing your phone can do that my iPhone can't?" That was easy, just show them copy & paste. Sadly the new iPhone can do it too now...I hate you Apple
id have to say diamond beer and touch the music would be a good start also there is a thats what she said app with the voices of the people from the tv show the office. also htorch is a must turns your led into a flash light and dont forget the light saber app.

That's awesome!!! My fiance called me one holiday season saying she couldn't find her car in the Target parking lot that we shop at on a weekly basis :S Thing is, she wouldn't think to tag it... :/

This is a prank to get people to yell about using Google, right?
TomTom Navigator for WM
Godaft is a really fun app I use it all the time .
Hello all,
I've recently migrated from WM6.1 to the Android platform, but have been dissapointed with the nav apps available.
Now that Garmin has released their own Android-based phone will there be an Android app coming available so I can use my maps again?
Can it be extracted from a nuviphone ROM?
The app itself is free for smartphones and WM so...
Thanks.
The Garmin Nuvifone is based on Linux but it is not Android. It's Garmin's own mobile OS and in no way compatible with Android.
As I've said before, with the NuviPhone line, I'll be surprised if Garmin makes a navigation app for Android. This may change as Android becomes more common on non-smartphone mobile devices though.
In any case, I'm a big Garmin fan. I've been pleased with nearly every one of their products and their customer support should be the standard by which all others are measured.
If you are looking for a solution for Android, I'd highly recommend CoPilot Live. It's not quite as polished and complete as Garmin's stuff. But it works. And it's head and shoulders above any of the other navigation apps available at the moment. It's a $30 investment, but that's still a bargain.
I use mine very often for travel and have been pleased with it. I just wish Google would bite the bullet and provide realtime navigation on their maps app. They'd put everyone else out of business.
Until you lose cell coverage, then you're stuck. On device map storage is the only way to go.

Agreed. I have the TOPO maps for Canada and have used them quite a bit. They may be old, but how much does that stuff change anyway?
I love the Garmin stuff, but it sounds like I'll have to get used to something else until the assimilation is complete...
I will look into CoPilot, thanks.
The current nuviphone is not Android, but they have said that the next version of the nuviphone will be running Android. Just not yet. Once this happens, they may have an Android app out who knows.
For everyone talking about losing coverage, don't you think Garmin has thought about something like that? They probably the biggest GPS company. They would be dumb if all the data wasn't all pre-loaded into the phone somehow in case you go out of coverage.

Who are you responding to?
If the message immediately before yours, then your response is misleading and incorrect since copilot has all maps and nav soft ON DEVICE. Cell coverage is irrelevant.

Yes, it was directed at the comment right above mine. My point was that relying on online only mapping works only as long as you can maintain a data connection. And that storing the maps on the device, like Copilot, is my preferred mapping solution.
In short, we are in agreement.
Another vote here for copilot (and storing maps on your device).

Too bad cell phone coverage is not ubiquitous quite yet.
I doubt you would even be able to have a smooth experience at 50+mph on EDGE.
But having said that, Google is definitely posturing itself quite well for the future capability of wireless.
I <3 innovation.
Why is this such a big deal? As I see it, the only thing impacted is Telenav and that's only because it's free. There's no reason to think it will impact the sales of Garmin or TomTom.
Hello!
I hope you can give me a purchase advice for a GPS Navigation for my Yamaha FZ6-S Fazer. I've tried to search alone through various reviews and co but didn't find anything good. There is one side that praises Garmin to the sky and makes TomTom bad, and the other side where this is exactly the opposite. That makes me quite undecided. What would you recommend?
