Does any one know what is the best graph calculator for a HTC Touch Diamond Pro. I'm currently going to school and need a Graph calculator, but why should I pay more money for other device if I have a mini computer. I don't care if I have to pay for the software, but I just want to have it on my phone. Thank You.
RdCalc - Graphing Calc
Search for RdCalc
This is all you need if you are willing to pay: http://www.spacetime.us/pocketpc/
It has more than you will ever need. I don't even use 80% of the stuff it has. Its amazing.
I'm using HiCalc, Winner of 2007
So far, i'm very satisfied with it

2nd! I bought this when in version 2.x and have not been able to live without it since. You can take your TI-86,89,92 and put them on the shelf when you have this app. It is excellent.
I recommend the following:
VTI Pocket Emulator
Do you use the TI-89 calculator? I have the actual TI-92plus so I found this calculator fab.
I have not used the 89 for more than a few minutes here and there. I cut my teeth on a 86, and had a 92Plus until someone felt they needed it more than I did. Emulators are fine, but honestly I had no trouble moving over to Spacetime which was designed to run on Windows Mobile. Emulators are typically more trouble than they are worth, IMNSHO.
Just remember, if you are going to high school now (which I presume, in the states), you will need another calculator later for the sat's (or whatever you take). You can always borrow your friend's, but make sure you know how to use it!
I am just a bit past the high school level as I have acquired a terminal degree in chemistry, and it never ceases to amaze me that even advanced college students with very expensive and capable calculators fail to employ them correctly resulting in poor scores. While in graduate school, I had occasion to teach and grade quite a bit and this was quite prevalent. g2tl makes a great point. No matter which route you choose, LEARN TO USE IT EFFECTIVELY. It will save you some tears in the months to come.
@g2tl,
I also have a g2tl.
Thanks to everyone who is giving me feed back. I tried all of them on my Htc Diamond Touch Pro
Spacetime - was not really user friendly and I couldn't figure it out.
HiCalc - This was very user friendly, but it is the trial version and wont let me use the graph section, so I can't really test it until tonight
VTI Pocket Emulator - This will not work on the HTC Touch Diamond Pro
This is one I found that is very users friendly Calc Pro (I gave it High rateings - This works very well with the Diamond Touch Pro, finger friendly.... but maybe (and I know it has to be me) I can't get it to change from F(x) to F(Y). for instance I'm trying to graph this problem and it will not work: y= 1/2 sin (x + pi) , y= cos 4x , y= cos 3x Those are samples that I could not get to work.. Maybe I'm doing something wrong, please if you can gave me help thank you again.
Never used that one... Good luck. Have you downloaded and consulted the manual for the application in an effort to solve your problem? It seems that this would be in the manual.

I found this program to be very very very excellent. Being an engineer it has many functions that I use frequently, such as solving systems of equations. If you have used any math programs before (such as Matlab or Maple or Mathematica) this is rather intuitive and the tutorials are excellent. Well worth the 20-40$ depending on what add-ons you get. This is definitely over-kill for your average calculator user. But if you plan to do any calculus or more advanced algebra (linear algebra, etc) I would say this is an excellent program.

Those are all functions of x. So in the case of:
y=1/2 sin(x + pi)
is the same as:
f(x) = 1/2 sin(x + pi)
As with a lot of math, you must learn how to merge different notations into the style needed. These equations say exactly the same thing they just look a little different.
Omg. So I just tried all of those in the thread and (according to my point of view since I'm 16 and in high school). I did not get SpaceTime at all. I was like wtf when I opened it =/ Will take some time to get. HiCalc is ok. Graphing is eh. Now Panoramic Calc Pro! Is the most finger friendly calc I've seen so far! (Ok, not including the buttons) =/ But navigation. The graphing is so awesome! I love it! It has the best graphing function use IMO (cause I couldn't get Spacetime to work). So for simpletons like me who only need graphing calculators, I would get the Calc Pro. It's worth it.

Hi, sorry for reviving this topic, hop the mods won't kill me :-D
I just downloaded SpaceTime4.0
I fired it up, did the tutorial and I was just like WTF? This app is just insane!

The HTC CIO may be curled up in a corner crying now...
crying?
i think he has tears in his eyes from laughing.
why do a lot of people always insist that older is better.
touchflo 3d has way more options and is much fingerfriendlier than the old version.
so just a tip: do not use your stylus, but use your fingers. you will find that using the touch flo 3d really is a lot easier
looks beautiful runs terrible
i gave up! touchflow 3D, simply too slow and couldnt catch up with my finger.
will leave it for showing off when demo to friends only...
Yeah, it's not easier at all. It's much more work to get to the media player now, where as I could assign it to a hardware key on the Kaiser. Navigating the Kaiser with keyboard mnemonics was definitely faster and easier. TouchFLO 3D requires so much more finger/hand/eye movement in order to access the same information that would have been already on your screen right away.
I also hate having to scroll through all of the Cities in the US in order to get to Yonkers, NY for the weather. It was way easier when I could just type the name of the City in the HTC Home plug in. These iPhone-style lists are horribly frustrating to use.
I, think the regular touchflo is simpler to use because it is exactly that (simple) & boring... a few tabs and thats it. However TouchFlo3D has much more options, looks sweet, touch friendly & interactive; the fact that it takes more time to getting use to or figuring out does not bother me at all.
With this new plugin I rarely see the windows UI and I think that makes a huge difference, at least for me it does.
Another point to consider is how you use the device or what for? I use it primarily for the web, weather, texting & GPS & all of these are extremely easy for me to get to. As far as the extra scrolling to choose a specific city under weather should not be in issue, I set my city & a couple others in no-time when I got my phone and that's it no more scrolling.
I remember some time ago nokia, samsung, SE, mortorola etc all the big names done some stuidies and figured out the max number of key presses it should take to get to ANY menu option. It seems with all this fancy scrolling lists and interfaces thats lost now.
Even in an iphone - which you may hate, but is probably the best touch interface - its not exactly fast to get to things.

I've said this before - in experiments comparing the iPhone and the old TouchFLO, it was faster on average to get to things using TouchFLO.

Well, the devices are aimed at completely different markets. HTC generally aim their devices with keyboards at business users, whereas the Touch Diamond is a high-end general consumer product.

There are now tweaks that will speed up TouchFLO 3D quite a lot. Search this forum.
so......
will the old type of htc home plug in work with diamond?
i too was happy using it (on my trinity)
would be nice to have the choice
with the tabs you had people..weather apps...and more
so does anyone know before i bugger my diamond up
I think TouchFlow 3D is great, easy to use and looks very nice.
The only thing I'm missing are my tasks on the Todayscreen. On my Touch I used them as a reminder for certain things, but when you don't see them right away when turning on the phone they're useless.
I installed a Version of HTC Home Plugin earlier today on my dad's diamond and well... i guess it just isn't fit for a VGA Display. It is very small and the porportions are messed up. Anyone already tried to get HTC Home to work or knows of any VGA Version maybe?
I used to use Touch Commander on my Asus P750, as far as I'm concerned it's an exact copy which will work in VGA mode, as the P750 also had a VGA screen.
http://www.touch-commander.com/
But then again, with Dutty's ROM and the registry tweaks, TF3D runs pretty smooth.

Alright, I have had this issue too. Here is a cab for the Home Plugin for VGA devices (works on my TP).
I AM NOT TAKING CREDIT FOR THIS, JUST SHARING THE .CAB I FOUND SOMEWHERE ON THIS FORUM LOOKING FOR THIS. MADE BY PJC
Hope this helps out those who need it.

I'm about fed up with TouchFlo 3D, nice but pretty useless and I REALLY miss the Cube from my Touch Dual, much more convenient and doens't waste CPU cycles, so...has anyone installed it on the Diamond ?

Ok had to hard reset...
Was hopeful after a post by SecureGSM :
"HKLM\Software\OEM\TFLOSettings:
also, there is one that is suppose to enable cube finctionality there:
EnableCube : default value (0) <--change that to (1)"
But not working for me.
Its not so simple as switching cube on. Cube is simply not there in our Diamond. If u try to install this Cube configurator from the Elf thread, u'll see a multitude of errors, missing files, etc. Cube may be functional here, but we'll be needing all those files
Yes, that sucks, the CUBE is x times more useful than TouchFlo 3D IMHO.
There must be a way though because it was added to non touch devices.
i dun think we'll have to descend to the non touch method, they use flash. i'm sure if we can get the Touch Cruise for example, and get their files, and put it in, it should work? i think
Catching up, I also thought this would do it http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=348437 but so far no luck either.
bump - hope someone can figure it out ;-)
Another bump, that would be such a useful addition, I'm sure the bright minds around here can figure how to add the Cube back ;-)
have u tried Touch Commander?
Not sure, got a link ? I tried the tools linked in the first message and no go, had to hard reset.
I know a guy who might be very good at this ... Duttie or something like that
Unfortunatly, he is not around (yet)
Sounds good, hope he joins us soon !
Have you considered something like this:

There are a couple of other similar GUIs out there and the good thing about them that they all VGA optimized.

Thanks, but what I like about the cube is up and down the gesture to bring the contact list and then left to right for the various tools. The Contact list would be enough actually.
bumping it up ;-)

Any news guys ? I was so happy with my Touch Cruise but bought the Diamond for the 640x480 screen and faster video playback.
The TouchFlow 3D looks fine but it's very useless to me, The old TouchFlo Cube from the cruise could be swept away and you had your normal windows todayscreen.
I tried the Cube thing SPD Mobile Shell but the old originall CUBE is way better I think.
Any solutions ?
Bump!!! I Want The Cube!!!!!!
same here, in fact I want it so much I've stuck with the HTC Touch Dual, aka Nike !
First I need to say that I really liked Touchflo3D a lot and I didn't stopped using it because it looks bad or may slow down the Diamond a little bit.
I stopped using it because it reminds me too much of the iPhone...unfortunately minus the iPhone usability.
After I went back to the "classic" stylus and thumb operation, my lost happiness using the Diamond returned back. I also enjoy to be able again to easily read all my appointments and tasks which was almost impossible with Touchflo3D.
Tochflo3D looks great, in my opinion better than the iPhone GUI, kudos to HTC for that.
Unfortunately it doesn't offer the same comfort and usability of the iPhone GUI, so it is useless to me. Once HTC succeeds in integrating WM6.1 into Touchflo3D(or vice versa), I may give it another try but right now, it is just a fancy but pretty much useless GUI which reminds me too much of the iPhone comfort and usability and which of course starts to annoy me once I realize that it doesn't work even close to how good the iPhone GUI works with touch operations.
So if you're annoyed by Touchflo3D but still use it because it looks so nice...STOP using it, you will be much more happy with your Diamond, believe me. Once Touchflo3D is gone, you don't compare it to the iPhone anymore, reminding you of the "good old" stylus/thumb operation days and how good the Diamond can be used that way compared to older devices.
Try it, you may love it.
Good call.
I have done the same and only really miss the cute SMS graphics...
HTC obviously CAN do good interfaces as the old TouchFlo was excellent, but this one just isn't quite there yet, and also feels somewhat fiddly compared to the iPhone.
In the meantime the TD runs much better without TF3D, and you can start realising its full potential. Also you are not tempted to use their somewhat flaky audio player etc and can start to look at other alternatives.
If you want gestures and nice graphics, try SPB Shell 2. Works very well and looks great.
Otherwise, try using the device as the WM6 phone it so obviously is, and start to enjoy it...
from the first i didnt like the Touchflo3D its buggy so i disable it and use the normal mode
Yeah, I do fully agree to that!
The "classic" windows mobile interface looks very well on the diamond,
and without TF3D it's fast as hell!
Spb mobile shell is the best interface.
Touch Flo 3d was slow and killed the diamond.
Have to agree with most of the posts in here, TF3D is nice but its such a resourcce hog that after almost a day of using the Diamond...the phone becomes so sluggish even with the tweaks enabled.
Im seriously considering going to the normal non tf3d screen as it doesnt eat as much memory/resources as the tf3d does.
Seriously just try leaving the phone for most of the day and u will see that from 50% it goes up to 70% and makes the phone very sluggish.
Saying that i do hope HTC fix it with a future rom update or perhaps one of the guys in here can do it becuase its a nice interface when it works.

Pardon my earlier stupid question re a registry switch for touchflo. It is of course, as pointed out, simply a today plugin, easily disabled by a t(h)ick!
Well, apparantly some people haven't heard of flashing your phone. My TD with TF3D is fast as hell with my new rom.
Hi
I also disabled Touchflo3D. Is there another possibility to access the weather-application from Touchflo3D? Or does anybody know a similar programm running with WM 6.1?
after you install spb mobile shell, how do you disable/remove touchflo? and make spb shell the default one etc
Settings-today-items:check SPB and remove the check from tf3D ..DONE!

Which ROM are you using?
Using TLR now, and I really can't stop using TFLO3D.
It's damn fast here, and really, getting the everyday things done (read sms, read mail, launch a navigator, make a picture) TFLO3D is really, really good.
No buggs at all, and really fast. The first ones were a bit sluggish, but I can wipe my finger "left-right-left-right" in 1 second, and TFLO3d follows it perfectly.
In terms of usability for me, it gets at least 8 out of 10. There are some things I miss, like reordering my tabs and GETTING A DECENT CALENDAR but for the rest its great.
It brings back the simpleness of a mobile phone to the foreground, while still you have a suberb device at the background.
I quite like it too but I do miss the exact things you have just mentioned. I'm not looking for a replacement, but I do wonder can it be hacked so we can get more out of it? Or must we wait for HTC to listen to our cry for help. This is my first HTC device so I don't know, but from what I hear we should not be holding our breath. This surprised me, as I buy other HTC's for my staff at work, and HTC's reputation to me was exemplary, and they are the market leaders. Then I came here, and now I hear so much bad stuff about them.

You never used an iPhone, did you?
I'm using the TLR ROM too but Touchflo3D is C.R.A.P..
I owned WM phones before(TyTN, TyTN II, i780, etc.) and I like Windows Mobile, version 6.1 is really a good step towards a finally very well working phone OS, I just can't wait to see WM7. Like I said before, Touchflo3D LOOKS great, much better than the iPhone GUI but operation SUCKS bigtime, not even close to iPhone. Don't forget that HTC started the whole "touch" series because of the iPhone, not because people really asked for it. That said, a comparison to the iPhone is mandatory and yes, I know, the display technology is completely different and WM6.1 lacks a proper finger touch operation API, right.
I removed Tochflo3D because I wanted to have an almost perfect "classic"(stylus, sometimes fingers) Windows Mobile phone, not a half-bread iPhone wannabee.
What can I say? I'm a happy camper now, especially since I can for example see five different calender events on the same page without having to touch the unit.
Regarding Touchflo3D improvements: I'm not sure we're going to see substantial improvements to the usability(speed isn't really the issue), unless some genius programmer finds a clever way to cope for the different display technology and missing "real" finger usage API of WM6.1. I also wish somebody here on xda-developers with brains and time on this hand could "integrate" WM6.1(icons, etc.) much more into Touchflo3D, so Touchflo3D doesn't look and feel sometimes like a simple GUI "cover" only.
I'm pretty sure that Windows Mobile 7 will be the answer to all our questions and hopes but til then...well...hello Touch Diamond II or whatever it's name will be.
I'm not opposed to using the stylus by any means, and I knew when I bought the phone that it wasn't intended to be operated completely with your fingers - it's certainly no iPhone (and I mean that in the best way possible). However, there's certainly something to be said for the convenience of having something you can operate with your fingers alone, especially if you don't have a free hand to hold your phone while you use the stylus in the other to navigate.
So, with that in mind I'm looking for any recommendations on programs that can be used to make the Kaiser more finger-friendly. The only ones that come to mind immediately for me are S2U2, FFF and the various Cubes. What are the other options available?
Thanks in advance.
spb mobile shell 2 is as finger friendly as it gets, it includes a wide variety of tools so that you barely need too traverse outside of the shell
Yeah, I've been looking at that, definitely looks great for finger navigation. Just wish it weren't $30 Looks like I'll have to wait to pick it up, I'm a little low on cash seeing as I just bought my Kaiser.
I'd also vote for mobile shell....
but also the excellent pocketcm for contacts and phone stuff. (and this ones a freebie)
Touch Commander is pretty nice, but also commercial.
Finger friendly friends for your contacts - very finger friendly

TomTom Navigator 7 is pretty "finger friendly" IMO.
icontact
iContact (freeware on XDA) in its latest version (0.74) is fantastic. A little faster and a lot smaller memory footprint compared to pockemCM. Very iphone like (in a good way).

There are alot of finger friendly apps out there and the software just keeps adding up on the internet daily then there was a year ago or when the kaiser came out for sale in 2007...there is so much great .cabs and software out there on the internet that youlll find everything you need especially finger gesturing applications easily. The great thing about the kaiser and why i think it stands higher in quality then alot of PPC/PDA's out there especially the iphone is the ability to download and use 3rd party applications out the box... i mean im sure the iphone has the capabillities for 3rd party apps, once you unlock..then jailbreak and all that other jazz that u have to do to the iphone before its capable of being a functional and useful phone and after all that i dont think it still has more then a handful o applications out there for it..deffinetly not as much software thats out there now for windows moble phones..but anywayz theres so much finger friendly software out there on the net intended to be for PPC's...so with that being said theres theres good apps that mimic the iphone finger gesturing...like TOUCHFLO or TOUCHFLO 3D, its software that comes preloaded now with all new htc phones so that you barely have to use your styluses....after i installed the newest touchflo software(its not touchflo 3D, but still just as good) i barely even use the sylus now. With this flo touch technology u can finger scroll through all applications, and there is certain software that is finger friendly and beatiful to watch and use your fingers and especialy the thumb movements like the icontacts app...its one of the best contact manager software and it mimics the iphones contact list application. You can flo through your whole contact list in 2 seconds and its free...and the new icontact has alot of new optionns like a quick favorites list that is like speed dial so i would suggest gettin icontacts 0.73 or .75 once you install touchflo newest free software. You wont get a more finger friendly contact manager....trust me youll never use another contact manager...and its backround and theme is black with white letters which goes with the black theme of the kaiser itself..but i think u can switch the colors around..other then that PIE is finger friendly once u install touchflo and also tom tom 7 gps software and the great HTC album aplication (photo and camera software) rivals and mimics the iphones photo app and i think blows the iphones picture software out the water..and theres so much other software out there that becomes so much more easier to flip through with ur fingers and thumb especially...and personally i never use the cube software i think its a waste of space and i have no use for it....htc home and other htc software for your today plugin screen is good enough...and youll notice other software is much more easier to scroll through once you have touchflo or the pay version of touchflo 3d because of the extra benefits...so enjoy and watch the ease of barely having to use your stylus...but dont forget our phones are ment for stylus's and theres nothing wrong with it...the iphone may not need a stylus but that phone has alot of short comings especialy when it comes to text messaging department, its horrible..ive tried it on friends phones and had the worst times trying to text..would take close to 5 minutes writing a 4 sentence message.. and all of my boys that have the iphone all tell me they wish the iphone didnt only have the on screen keyboard..once they play with my tilt and see the qwerty keyboard there envious to it...cuz the iphones on screen just cant compete, especialy if you have big fingers like me..basically it sucks dog balls, even the new iphone which " needed" to be upgraded to built in gps and 3G., the kaiser when it came out already came with all these luxuries..the iphone needed to "upgrade" to get those rescources so think about that..and just scour the software threads for any type of software u can think of and youll find it..later
have you tried this.

I find both PocketCM and ThumbCal great replacements for contact management and calendar. Both free. Search XDA and you shall find.

yea bro....like i barely ever use my toshiba satelite labtop other then for school term papers and essays and other school work...and for my job when i need to use microsoft office for word and excel for my spreadsheets...so when im at home or on the go...my main internet viewing utility is my tilt man. I find it so much more easier to just flick my phone open and surf the net on my tilt...from youtube watching, movie watching and when im on my forums posting, like this here xda for my phone and acurazine forums for my acura tl community. And my toshiba labtop is not old either its 4 months old and fast as ****! but... i rarely use it for internet scouring because my kaiser is so handy for simple web browsing stuff that i do and more convienent. So yea you alrdy said you know what i meant when your posting stuff through your tilt...its a little hard to be percise and grammer desciplined when typing with the qwerty...it would just take to much time to worry about how your typing needs to be perfect looking...especially when your posting on forums, i could give two sh*ts about a couple of missing parenthesis or misspelled words on forums..cuz people know where im getting at and theve seen enough internet or IM chat to distinguish word play and internet lingo..so yea..wala! lol

This kid really rambles a lot huh, about nothing too. I see your posts in almost every thread and none of them actually contribute. Are you that bored that you type bs all day. Stay the f*ck on topic and stop cluttering up the forums.

AS IF.
When I see a huge (and I do mean HUGE) block of text like this, with next to no punctuation, no paragraphs, and generally a "stream of the subconscious" look, I do not even bother to skim it, much less read it word for word. I can accept it at Theodor Weissenborn's, but, sorry, you're not him.
Besides, sum ting wong with the Enter key on your Tilt's keyboard?
And before I get slammed for not contributing to the thread:
Ultimate Launch
Throttle Launcher
FFF
Winterface (yuk, but for the sake of completeness...)
iFonz
S2U2
S2V
S2P
SPB Mobile Shell
PointUI
iContact
iCalendar
Resco Keyboard
Zoom Keyboard
PocketCM Contacts
...and many, MANY others, these were just off the top of my head.
Lets see where I should start. Well first this would not be my first windows mobile phone.. In the past year I have went from iphone>Sony Ericsson P1i>Palm Treo Pro>Sony Ericsson X1a>HTC Dream (Anroid G1)> Touch Diamond. I've always wanted the Touch Diamond when it first came, but i was scared to get it. As you can see all my previous devices have had a keyboard. The G1 has a lot of nice apps, friendly gui and very touch sensitive but it has no 3g for me since im in USA with ATT. As for the phone i am using right now the X1. I really like it alot but there are not too many developers out there cooking roms. I would like to give the touch diamond a try..
For those of you out there that do a lot of texting/Emailing/Im'ing please let me know what your experiences are like.
I have a question about the batt life. one of my main concern. Every phone i have had would last me about 2/4 to 3/4 of the day. I would have to charge the phone every chance i get. Do any of you guys use any im programs such as parlingo or im+?
What is the best im program out there for the phone? (i use to use agile messenger as i thought was one of the best. not sure if it would work on this device)
I would like to hear any x1 and touch diamond owners insights. (I would like to know how your browser experience is like with the 2 different device. *really important to me* I like how the iphone is really sensitive in scrolling and clicking of links. Is the touch diamond anything like that?)
I do kind of look forward to the accelerometer as the x1 does not have this feature.

No, it is not.
humm maybe i should wait for another device..
This guy has no clue what he is speaking about...
Palringo works very well on the phone.
With the correct ROM it's extremely quick, great battery life.
With all that being said, you're on ATT. Get the Fuze(touch pro). Has hardware keyboard, and a bit wider. Same software as HTC Diamond, same amount of ROMs(if not more). Plus, US 3G support.
I have diamond, used to have Kaiser.
made the switch because was using touchpal as default sip for texting emails ext. realized i barely ever slid out keyboard (unless someone else was going to use it)
so i would say try touchpal on one of your existing WM devices see if you can use it for more than a day without reverting to your slide out keyboard, maybe look into some other sips out there if you have something you like.
if you find you can't live without the hardware keyboard > Go for the touch pro
if you find maybe software is good enouph > Go diamond
Touchpal here : http://www.cootek.com/download.aspx
Browser is good (its opera 9.5 you can probably download it on another device and test it as well), its capatible with flash light so you can use it for flash content pages it isn't as fast or as smooth as iphone but it is REALLY close, has upto 3 tabs and the main benef is you get a full download manager so you can save whatever you want (eg. cab files from xda )
battery is decent, i usually get a day out of it but thats because i use it as a gameboy among other things. extended batteries are available ranging in from $7 - $80US but can take the diamond upto 3000mah
and finally with some quick tweaking you can get the screen sensetivity up (still won't be as good as iphone tho) and with TouchResponse you can enable hepatic feedback (vibrate on touch)
sweet thanks a lot for the mini review. i think i will try it on my x1 and see how that goes.
