Help! AT&T Tilt will not fully boot!! Shuts off!!! - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

Hi, I have had numerous problems with my AT&T Tilt that I have always been able to have fixed here. This time I must say it is the strangest. Whenever I turn my phone on it goes through the normal boot up. The ATT page comes up and then the 3G bars up come on. Next, the green windows 6.1 screen comes on. Then the phone flashes my personal information with the top portion saying that there is no service to be found. The battery meter reads full before the phone automatically shuts off. When I try to turn the phone back on after that it turns on in the boot loader mode with the multi color screen.
The screen reads:
KAIS1*0
SPL-3.56.0000
CPLD-8
with serial at the bottom of the screen, or USB if plugged into my computer.

Update!
When I turned my phone on without the sim card in it, the phone fully booted up and stayed on!
Have been unable to get it to boot up now with the sim card in since it turns on with the multi color boot loader screen about half of the time. Will post what happens when I get the phone to turn on!

What if you use another sim?

For troubleshooting purposes, I woudl reccomend trying to boot it up with a diffrent SIM in there... Sims CAN "go"... I had one go on me once and my phone would jsut lock up during booting (on my old Motorola MPX200 WM2003se)... Went to my carrier, and seeing as my sim was a few years old they upgraded me to a newer sim for free... Hope that is all your problem is

I am having the same problem, but I think I caused it. I had an older mobile pohone with a Cingular SIM card still in it. I swapped the SIM cards because I wanted to use the old phone, but did not want to lose the old card (I really don't know why...). Anyhow, now my Tilt will not recognize the new card when I stick it back in?!
I did search Google, and found this: http://forums.wireless.att.com/cng/board/message?board.id=cingular&message.id=106311

Tilt SIM problem
if it will recognize one SIM but not the other then it is most likely the Sim that is bad. try cleaning the gold contacts on the sim with a pencil eraser to take off any stains or dirt stuck to it.

Got a new Tilt, tested, installed SIM, now I'm stuck

So I tested the Tilt without a SIM card it booted up just fine and all, then I shut it down as per the enclosed instructions. I inserted the SIM card also as per instructions, and then the phone failed to turn on. So I was forced to soft reset the device (now after an hour of waiting) it is stuck at the AT&T screen. I tried a second reset about 10 minutes back and again stuck at the AT&T screen. Any idea whats wrong with the phone, I assumed that this should be a simple procedure of inserting the SIM, and restarting the phone. Since the enclosed instructions (with the phone) give me no answers, any idea what I should do now?
Thanks,
ERIC
make sure the sim is in, it won't hurt to charge it, and try a hard reset.

First of all is ATT your service provider? If not you'll have to unlock your phone before using.
For your issue...
Try taking out Sim card, and starting up your phone.
Once it starts, it's will load the setup wizard asking you to tap the screen: at this point do a hard reset (a hard reset is done by pushing the two soft keys (these keys are located to the left of the end button, and the right of the talk button with a "-" on them) at the same time and while holding these keys, push your stylus into the softreset hole and wait until your phone flashes and brings you to a white screen with instructions.
Follow the instructions on the screen.
After your phone resets, power down, reinsert your Sim card and it should be ok.

Tilt Spontaneous Shutdown

Hey, folks! Been awhile since I've been in the forum. I've got a Tilt running Dutty's 5.2.19209.
At some point yesterday my phone starting shutting off randomly at the second splash screen (after the animated one).
If I leave the SIM card door unlocked, I can go past this screen, but I soon get an error message saying to lock the door, and the phone shuts down.
I can enter the HardSPL tri-color screen and I can reflash to different ROMs. I'll get through the screen alignment and time setting and my device will start to customize, and then I get that darned message saying my SIM card door is unlocked (even though it isn't) and the device shuts down.
I've done this several times and now the phone shuts off immediately when I power on. I can still get into HardSPL, but I just can't get the phone to power on and boot normally.
Does this sound like a hardware problem?
I've read a few other similar problems on here, none of which seemed to get resolved. I bought my Tilt from a private seller, so I have no warranty.
Thanks!

Oh, and I haven't uploaded anything or switched ROMs or anything in months. This was a spontaneous occurance.

Dead Diamond

Only got it today and was working fine with Duttys rom.
I wanted to unlock it from orange so I used olipro's software and after enabling "unlock", still showed as no sim in phone and after reboot the phone is dead
When I try to switch the phone on, there is NO vibrate, lights or anything
Cant believe my luck
any ideas?
Have you tried hard resetting the phone?
got it to work
I took battery out and left for 10mins.
Now getting "sim card missin" which olipro is saying is due to it being an old non 3g usim

Change simcard without turning off kaiser. Possible???

Like the title said,
Is there a way to change the simcard without turning off kaiser.
Is it wisely to do it while kaiser is on etc.
Thnx in advance for answers
Every time I pull my SIM card with out powering down the Kaiser just shuts down anyway.
I don't think so, I have accidentaly pull out the sim card with the kaiser on and it automatically shuts off, and worse when turn on with the new sim the radio doesn´t turn on.
I have to turn it off, insert the previuos sim, turn it on, then turn it off and only then replace the sim card.
wise to do so with phone on, don´t think so.
Impossible. Change the SIM card with power on may cause damage of the SIM card, hence HTC added a device on the sim card door. Once the door is open, power will be shut down. It is controled by hardware.
not a suggestion
i am not saying that you should try this, because it is likely that what wg5566 said was correct, but overriding the sim lock mechanism, so that it doesn't see the sim door as open would allow you to pull the card out. however, changing circuitry on powered boards is a bad idea. As we say in my line of work, "don't let the blue smoke out"
Now i'am wondering why there are phones which you can insert and remove the sim as an memory card. Aren't these Iphones and i thought Motorola???

TyTN II shutting down after Green Windows Mobile Screen

I really don't how how this problem has cropped up. Have had my TyTN II for the past 6 months and suddenly today afternoon it was off when I tried to use it. While turning on, it went upto the Green Windows Mobile 6.1 screen and then it simply turns off. What is the problem? Have tried a hard reset and still have the same problem.
Have you tried re-flashing your phone, with the original manufacturers rom.
enter bootloader by holding the camera button and pressing soft-reset.
then try connecting via USB and running your manufacturers rom update.
this will wipe all your data, but chances are, if you have already hard-reset then you will have lost all data.
I had made no changes to the ROM. It had the stock HTC Windows Mobile 6.1 ROM included.
try taking out the sim and sd card, then hard reset.
OK, it boots up without the SIM Card but not with the SIM card. Tried another SIM card but same problem. What could be the problem? My SIM card is working fine on other phones!

Is the sim card door locked and closed properly? There's a little microswitch that shuts down the device if it senses the door isn't locked it's possible for this to not be correctly aligned with the lock pin (ie not in the groove). Turn it off and take a good look at the mechanism and you'll see what I mean.
Additionally, you mention you'd tried a hard reset - did you try this with the sim and memory card out from within WM? Did the process complete properly?
I tried booting with 2 other sim cards and with them it says that there is no sim inserted. With my original SIM, it simply shuts off at the green windows mobile screen.
@Flying Kiwi, Yes, the SIM door is closed properly with that little notch extended to the right. The hard reset was done not from with WM but by the method given in the manual i.e keeping the 2 soft keys pressed and hitting the reset pin. This was done at the Smart Mobility screen with SIM and Memory Card inserted. The process did complete properly but while booting it shut off. So I removed the SIM and this time it went all the way to the screen alignment page and customizing stage. Now, it does not work with any SIM card but boots up fine without SIM.
I'm completely at a loss.
It could be a bad sim holder (surely there is a better word) or something like that. I would suggest playing around with it by opening the keyboard and then applying pressure on the door while it boots.

It was a long shot because with my TyTN II if I try that (with the WM 6.0 ROM) it gets all the way into WM and pops up a message about the sim door saying it'll shut down in 10 s - making it very clear - I've never tried it under WM 6.1 though.
Now, it does not work with any SIM card but boots up fine without SIM.

Could still be some sort of ROM corruption so what I'd like you to try is to remove BOTH the sim and memory card and boot into WM then perform a hard reset from within WM (settings -> System tab -> Clear Storage) and see if that runs right through to the end - then power off normally by holding down the power button and tapping yes. Then put in just the sim (that used to work fine with this phone) and start up again. Let us know how that goes Also have a look for any dirt/contamination in the sim slot as best as you can see, and on the sim itself.
