I can't send e-mail from one of my e-mail accounts on the phone. The only thing I think that might be an issue is I can't turn off the option "Use the same user name and password for sending e-mail" on the "Outgoing (SMTP) mail server:" screen - it is greyed out with the box checked. Is there a way I can uncheck it. I tried deleting the e-mail account and re-entering all the information, but that didn't help. Thanks.
Dunno if it helps but I 'think' it logs into the account and checks is there's any incoming mail ... before it will send. On some testing I did, if the account didn't exist, the email wouldn't send.
DRZ400 - Thanks for the reply. It does seem to check for incoming mail first. We use two different servers - one for incoming and one for outgoing mail. When I try to send I get the message "The message(s) could not be sent. Check that you have network coverage and that your account information is correct. Then try sending again."
Another interesting thing I've noticed. This e-mail account is used by Outlook on the PC. When I sync to the PC (even though I don't have e-mail set up to sync), the e-mail that I created on the cell phone gets sent.
A Lot of the carriers require you use their unsecure smtp server for sending mail. Example: AT&T's is cwmx.com
So, check your cell carriers preferences, not your ISPs mail settings for smtp.
Need more input...
Exactly - UnHolyOne - that is what I think my problem is. I can NOT uncheck the section to use the same user name and password to send messages (as to receive them). I believe my provider does not want a user name and password and therefore I can't get access because I'm trying to log in. At least that is the only thing I can think of so far. (I tried using smtp.cwmx.com for my outgoing e-mail and that didn't work either.)

it's not smtp.cwmx.com, it's just cwmx.com. No www., no smtp, nothing else. No username and password. Try that. It's not the greatest, and it's not secure if that's an issue with your business or anything, but it works if you are on AT&T.
That did it!
BlowFish64 (and UnHolyOne) - THANKS - That did it - I works now. I really appreciate it. (I shouldn't have assumed it needed the smtp. in front of it).

I configured this per directions on the Gmail site and now have it listed as one of my email accounts. I can even send messages, but can not yet receive. Also, it hangs on the "Looking For Changes" screen and never says "finished" as my other email accounts do. I am wondering if anyone else has tried to configure yet, and if anyone is having luck?
Works ok for me on an HTC Touch. Have you enabled IMAP in Gmail? It's under settings >> Forwarding and POP/IMAP. If you don't see IMAP, it's not been setup for your account yet by Google.
Austin.
I answered my own question, helps if you just show a little patience, never been my strong suit! For anyone else as impatient as me, a few tips. Make sure you manually configure your email settings. If not, it will not pick up the incoming server as an IMAP server. So, long story short simply follow the below instructions and voila, you will be up and running in no time.
Configuring other mail clients
You can use the following information to configure IMAP with many mail clients. If you encounter difficulties, we suggest contacting your mail client's customer support department for further instructions -- we're unable to provide assistance with configuring mail clients not listed here.
Incoming Mail (IMAP) Server - requires SSL: imap.gmail.com
Use SSL: Yes
Port: 993
Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server - requires TLS: smtp.gmail.com (use authentication)
Use Authentication: Yes
Use STARTTLS: Yes (some clients call this SSL)
Port: 465 or 587
Account Name: your Gmail username (including @gmail.com)
Email Address: your full Gmail email address ()
Password: your Gmail password
I noticed that some of my emails aren't fully downloading in IMAP mode. I switch it back to POP and the same email comes up completely. In IMAP mode, the body of the email is blank. Any ideas?
It sounds like you are only downloading the headers. Depending on which mail client you are using, you need to change the settings to download both the header and body of each message, or you can download them as you view them (usually by right-clicking a message and selecting "download").
Not working for me... Guess they havent updated my account to work with the the new IMAP servers!
In Progress
I have 2 accounts. 1 is updated to include IMAP, The other isn't.
Keep in mind if not already mentioned, Language selected in settings must be English (US).

Nope. Made sure the selection was to download the entire email and the entire attachment. Which brings me to another topic. Even when in POP3 mode with those selections made, I still have to manually download the email and attachments.
But, no, still unable to see the emails. It's funny though because it indicates that the entire file was downloaded.
I recently flashed my kaiser with the latest duty rom. After that i try to setup a imap gmail account.
The problem is that i can recieve mail, but when i try to send it gives the error :the message(s) could not be sent.Check that you have network coverage and that your account information is correct. Then try sending again
I checked / dubbel checked the imap settings from gmail, but nothing seems to work.
(if i try to setup pop3/smtp everything works fine)
Is there anybody who can help me ?
I think it comes because WM6 wants to automatic set some settings.
Try the following:
Create a new imap account.
By the email adressfield put something like.
Fill in all the other fields but remember to select imap4
When finished go back and edit the account with the right settings.
I had to do this with my own phone to get it working
have you enabled imap within your gmail settings at mail.google.com?
have you set the SSL settings to yes?
Tom , yes i enabled imap on the gmail setting, and yes i checked the ssl setting ( i cant change anything, only set the V )
@AAthesource : i tried this already, this is the only way to setup gmail with imap, otherwise the setting are automaticly set tot pop3 etc

I've had this problem with WM6.0 (Dutty's RTM4). The issue seems to be the ssl certificate than GMail sees fit to change every now and again. The SMTP info doesn't seem to change in the registry. Even with account deletion and re-add with the same name doesn't seem to fix this. I usually have to delete the account and then add with a different name.
Does anyone know where the fsck Pocket Outlook et al store the account information and especially cache certificates and passwords?
James
this would be nice if there's a solution !Hope to see it soon
I think you might be using the wrong information. The server isnt mail.google.com, its imap.google.com .
WM6.1 will automatically fill in settings, so you have to start off by making the address , then after you are done you can go back and correct that address. Here are the details from google's site. (remember to put the wrong address the first time around)
1. Enable IMAP in your Gmail account settings.
2. Open the Start menu and select Programs > Messaging > New E-mail Account.
3. Enter your Gmail username (including '@gmail.com') in the E-mail Address field.
4. Uncheck the box to get settings automatically from the Internet and select Next.
5. Select Internet e-mail as your email provider in the drop-down menu.
6. Enter your name as you want it to appear in sent emails.
7. Enter a descriptive name for the email account and select Next.
8. Enter 'imap.gmail.com' in the Incoming Mail Server field.
9. Select IMAP4 as the Account type from the drop-down menu and select Next.
10. Enter your Gmail username (including '@gmail.com') and password.
11. Select Next.
12. Enter 'smtp.gmail.com' in the Outgoing (SMTP) Mail Server field.
13. Make sure that the Outgoing server requires authentication box is checked.
14. Select the Advanced Server Settings link.
15. Make sure that the Require SSL box is checked for both incoming and outgoing emails.
16. Select The Internet as the network connection from the drop-down menu.
17. Select Done and then Next.
18. Select how often you want your phone to send/receive emails from the drop-down menu.
19. For more download options, select the Review all download settings link.
20. Select Finish.

My notes on these steps:
1. Ignore
3. Use a made up non @gmail.com adress the first time.
4. There is no check box in 6.1
12. I used imap.gmail.com for my outbound and it works great.
21. Menu > Tools > Options > Gmail Account > Fix Address to correct @gmail.com
@Pops_G it works for me now thanx !
i replaced smtp.gmail.com with imap.gmail.com and it works
is this a long term fix?
@ the cosmic gate & pops_G, is changing from smtp to imap.gmail really a long term fix?
I've found that erasing and re-creating the account will work until they change certificates again.
Going into my options and just switching outgoing to imap.gmail.com didn't fix it for me.
I had to erase my account from the phone and enter it again to work, using imap.gmail as the outgoing. However, I'm not convinced this fixes anything since re-doing it with smtp.gmail also would work until they change the security again.
So, will that not happen if using imap.gmail for outgoing?
Or does any of this really make any difference at all?
@Dishe, I really doen't know if this is a long time fix.But at this moment everything works fine for 1 month.
The only problem is that sometimes its not possible to send a mail.
It's really strange, but for example if you wanna send 4 mails, just 1 e-mail (adress) gives problems
I had it working fine in this 1999 rom but didnt seem to work with the hybrid. I also dont like how imap deletes the mail from the server when u del it off the phone. I just set it back to use pop. Only problem I saw with pop before was everything sent ends up in your inbox.

That's silly. You can set it to move trash to server trash instead of delete off server. Then, the message still exists on the server in "trash" until you empty it.
Also, at least with gmail, "delete" only removes it from the inbox. It still exists on the gmail server, but its not in any folders, they just sort of float around until you move them into the trash folder or assign them to another folder.
You can see this by viewing "All Mail" and filtering out the inbox, etc, to just show you messages without any category.
The only real reason to use POP these days is if your mail server does not support Imap. Imap is superior in every way...
It's not silly I don't want want my phone moving or deleting anything. I just want to view new emails. That's what gmail is about. Archiving mail and not having to delete anything. If it moved it to the archive I would be fine with it. I also don't my message in limbo with the "deleted" status.
it works for me for 3 weeks now, but sometimes there's a problem when i try to reply.
If i made a reply to some adressses, it says that its nog possible to send (something with network coverage).I know for sure that the mail adres is 100% okay .
Someone with the same problem ?Or maybe a solution?
is there nobody with the same problem ?Or somebody who can help me ?
nope, works fine for me. Sounds like you have a totally different problem. Ask google support or perhaps someone on their forums.

how come gmail imap in 6.1 does not auto sync like it did in wm6? i have options like manual and different intervals as an option.
Does anyone know of any bugs/issues with Windows Mobile (or any specific rom issues, for that matter) that exist with attempting to use multiple IMAP accounts? I used one of Dutty's roms before, then Alex's rom (I believe), and I'm back to Dutty's and still have the same issue. I can only seem to get one IMAP send account to work. Basically, when I was on Alex's rom, only my work IMAP would work, Gmail wouldn't. Now that I've re-flashed to
Dutty's rom, I can't get my work to send messages (and I'm certain it worked on Alex's and Gmail wouldn't), but Gmail does work. Any ideas?
Has no one else had this issue? Is there a setting or something that I've missed? I've looked up and down the phone, but see nothing...
If you're looking for issues regarding sending email, you have to search for the SMTP protocol, not for IMAP. POP3 and IMAP are used to receive mail, SMTP to send.
Are you sure the SMTP server you are using is accessible through your internet connection (I mean like 3G, GPRS, EDGE, not WLAN)? Most likely this is where the problem is situated.
Gmail SMTP is accessible through a mobile connection, but most SMTP servers from ISPs are not.
Good luck!
Yeah I'm sure. On Alex's ROM my work email would send ok (which didn't actually use smtp.xxxx.com; instead mail.xxxx.com), but gmail wouldn't send anything (using smtp.gmail.com). But now back on Dutty's, my work account wont send, and Gmail will. Does that answer your question?
In a way it does.
I tried using different SMTP server just now, but one of em didn't work. It might be the exact same issue as you have, but I think my problem has got more to do with the SMTP server itself than the configuration.
Sorry
Basically my issue only exists in SENDING emails. I can receive emails from all accounts fine, but I haven't been able to get more than one IMAP account to be able to send. Anyone else familiar with this issue, or have encountered it as well?
att smtp
I use att and the only smtp that work is their smtp. Even though you can receive any pop, you can only send through them. That may your problem
But that can't be it either. I've gotten GMail's SMTP to work on my latest ROM...just can not get my work, which is just mail.xxx.com instead of SMTP, which doesn't make any sense since I've gotten it to work before; basically I've gotten each of them to work before, just not at the same time. Also while I was at work Friday, I had our IT manager pull up the email server log, and on "send/receive" it shows it me connecting, receiving, but when it comes to sending messages, nothing reaches the server; it's like something fails on the PPC's end before it reaches the server. And I've quadruple+ checked the address, so it can't be that either.
Nobody else know anything about this?
While I was looking for something else, I ran into this:
Q.How can I configure Exchange ActiveSync to support multiple SMTP domains?A.Exchange ActiveSync locates a user's mailbox by using the primary Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) address. However, if users have a different SMTP domain in their e-mail address, they cannot synchronize their mobile device with Exchange Server 2003. To address this issue, you must add a registry key to force Exchange ActiveSync to locate the user's mailbox by using a secondary SMTP addresses. For more information about how to configure Exchange ActiveSync to locate users' secondary e-mail addresses, see You receive an HTTP_500 error message when you synchronize your mobile device with Microsoft Exchange Server 2003.
Caution: Incorrectly editing the registry can cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Problems resulting from editing the registry incorrectly may not be able to be resolved. Before editing the registry, back up any valuable data.
[/qoute]
It might have nothing to do with your problem, but you might wanna give it a try. Follow the link in the quote.
Good luck

When trying to set up my Diamond to download my mail from btinternet.com, it uses the wizard to find the account type etc. However it set's it up as an IMAP4 account type which it is not, it is a pop3 account. According to the help on the phone there is supposed to be a check box saying "Attempt to obtain e-mail settings from the internet" which if unchecked would mean these settings could be inputted manually, this is not the case. This results in a synch error when sending and receiving. It is not possible to change the account type when I go into email setup, it's greyed out!
I am using tlr-diamond-2.08.07.01 rom and have advanced config installed.
Sorry for rambling on, my question is, is there any way of turning off the wizard via a registry fix or any way to give the phone the correct settings for btinternet?
Thanks in advance for any replies, I've tried searching but to no avail
This drove me mad too.....
When it asks for your email address, type something like
It then bring up the checkbox, disable the auto get setting
complete the setup and then edit it
POP3 mail.btinternet.com
SMTP mail.btinternet.com
dont forget to change your username, password and email address
Fixed (or fudged)
Rik
Thankyou Rik
Cheers you're a diamond
That was driving me crazy.
Thankyou
Scott
smtp has stopped working on Internet Mail
I have configured Internet Mail (POP3 and SMTP), but suddenly the sending has stopped after working perfectly for two days.
I have reconfigured another account with the same settings, deleted the old email account, and it worked for a day and then the same problem arose. Has anyone else faced this problem? Can anyone figure what's happening?
Thanks in anticipation,
Ajit
Please can someone help me
I have just got my wife a Topaz (Diamond 2) and have managed to set it up for her ok except for her email account, It recieves all emails ok fine but when trying to reply to one it just wont send it.
It just says check signal and account settings, but it is receiving ok from those settings so why wont it send!!
Please can someone tell me what I'm missing, I have managed to set up my own Blackstone (touch HD) and all emails work fine, surely they cant be that different, can they?
Cheers
What type of mail account are you trying to configure? Exchange? Hotmail? Or Other (POP/IMAP)?
If it is the latter, check your Outgoing (SMTP) mail server settings, in particular the address of the server and find out if it requires authentication.... it more than likely will.
